Brief Summary

Microsoft is one of the biggest tech giants we have today and there is a reason why it has achieved an enviable stature that is near impossible to match, without even considering the cut throat competition it has received from its fellow tech rivals.

Therefore, the tech giant has a lot of expectations to look up to in the eyes of the public, which is so fickle natured that it can change their preference at the drop of a hat.

Luckily, Microsoft has the knack of gauging what the public wants and delivers accordingly, which is why it has managed to sustain itself at the top spot for many decades and counting.

Microsoft had announced its decision of discontinuing the iOS version of the SwiftKey Keyboard in back in September 2022 as it had decided to focus more on the Android version of it and soon, it was removed from the Apple app store once the formalities of termination were done.

It appears that the tech giant has had a change of heart as it has decided to reverse its decision and bring back the SwiftKey Keyboard for iOS devices, which was confirmed by Caitlin Roulston, an employee of the company, who claimed that SwiftKey iOS had been relisted on the Apple App Store based on customer feedback.

Microsoft

Vishnu Nath, Microsoft Vice President, has teasingly hinted that the SwiftKey iOS will be updated with brand new features, in an apparent bid to gain the favour of its users that were disgruntled when the keyboard was delisted from the app store last month.

Conclusion

The sudden decision of Microsoft relisting SwiftKey Keyboard for iOS devices has astonished many users and it is unclear as to what the tech giant has in store, which many are speculating to be an improvement in the overall typing experience on Apple devices.

It is due to the lack of third-party apps available for Apple OS, while it is an undeniable fact accepted by many users and tech experts that SwiftKey is the best keyboard by far for both Android and iOS devices.

USB-C INTERFACE

Brief Summary

Smartphones have become an indelible part of our lives in more ways than one because they have moved on from being a mere mode of convenience for making/receiving calls to one where you can also text messages, make video calls, watch movies, songs, and play games.

It is the owners’ responsibility to take good care of his/her smartphone and it doesn’t just involve keeping it in good shape for as long as possible but to charge it from time to time.

Technology continues to evolve from time to time but one thing that doesn’t get discussed about much is the USB Type-C Port, which has become a standard cable used in all smartphones of the day.

The entire world is switching full time to Type-C port, which will be difficult for even Apple to ignore it because the company is used to having things its way and put forth its own rules that it expects for everyone to follow.

Type-c port

India requires all smartphones, notebooks, and tablets to come with USB Type-C ports because the central government has had discussions with numerous Indian regulators and private firms, while the European Union (EU) too has approved the bill for unifying USB Type-C interface.

While Apple had been content with lightning port for its iPhone 14 and upcoming models, this bill will force the tech giant to adopt the USB Type-C port standard on its iPhones and AirPods by 2024 end.

Once the EU Bill is drafted, all upcoming Apple products has to adhere to its terms and conditions by switching over to Type-C standard, although iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro Max will continue with wired transmission speed  for the time being.

Apple iPads uses the USB-Type C port with a speed limitation that it has to manage. If things work out well, then it won’t be long before India switches completely to USB-C interface.

A quick guide to WhatsApp Web!

WhatsApp Web

WhatsApp has to be one of the most significant applications in recent times. It goes without saying that WhatsApp single-handedly killed SMS and other forms of message sharing services. When it comes to downloads, its competitors do not even come close, as WhatsApp has surpassed 500 crores of downloads, whereas Signal is still at 10 crores and Telegram is at 100 crores. Whatsapp was founded by Brian Acton and Jan Koum, both of whom used to work for Yahoo. In August 2009, WhatsApp started to gain some traction,And in 2014, the CEO of Meta Platforms Inc., Mark Zuckerberg, announced their acquisition of Whatsapp for US $19 billion, which is their highest acquisition till now.

Time after time, WhatsApp has also come under the scrutiny of many users and country leaders. For instance, the app is banned in nine countries and is constantly accused of poor security measures. In India, users tend to send misinformation through WhatsApp. The messaging giant then imposed a limit on forwarding messages, which helped them curb the misinformation that was doing the rounds when COVID-19 was at its peak.

Since its inception, WhatsApp has also introduced great services that are different from just messaging, such as voice calls, video calls, voice messages, and even WhatsApp Pay, through which users can make transactions. Another great service that WhatsApp offers is WhatsApp web. The desktop app allows users to access WhatsApp from their laptops or personal computers. Except for calling and making payments, users can do practically everything on their mobile device.

In Brief

Things have changed drastically for Twitter as a social media company ever since Elon Musk took over it for a whopping $44 billion and became its official CEO on October 28, 2022.

Musk was embroiled in a courtroom battle with Twitter since the past year after offering to purchase the platform for the aforementioned price and later backing out of the deal abruptly, which left Twitter shareholders with no choice but to take the legal route.

Now, with Musk finally having taken over Twitter, he has laid off thousands of employees at a global level, including 90% of them from India alone, and no less than CEO Parag Agarwal.

On the other hand, he has also issued a whip to his employees via email to bring in a hardcore work culture of 40 hours a week with high intensity or risk losing their jobs, which was met with further protests.

This led to many employees resigning their jobs in protest, which didn’t seem to matter much to the Tesla CEO as he later announced that anyone who wanted a verification tick on the platform had to pay $7.99 for getting the Twitter Blue Subscription in numerous countries like US, Canada, and Australia, while Indian users needed to pay Rs.719 ($8.91 approx).

Twitter

Although Musk had announced the relaunch of Twitter Blue Subscription on November 29, it appears that he has halted the relaunch once again as he wants to make sure that there will be no room for impersonation.

Earlier the Twitter blue tick was handed out manually but will now be marked of Twitter Blue as that is the premium subscription model that Musk wants. It was available some weeks back but the billionaire CEO had it removed when it became replete with multiple fake ‘verified’ accounts.

It is the responsibility of any big tech organization to make sure that its platforms are safe for people of all age groups, especially small children and teenagers as they are the most susceptible to fraud or, especially on Instagram and Facebook that are littered with fake accounts.

There have been many complaints from teenagers regarding cyber bullying and online harassment from unscrupulous elements and none more so than the two aforementioned platforms.

Fake accounts constantly DM (direct message) on the pretext of a new scheme or offer to earn money that many teenagers fall prey to, which is why Meta is testing certain methods so that teenagers are warned and prevented from messaging back to suspicious accounts they’re not connected to.

With this new method, no platform will display them in the ‘People You May Know’ recommendations, which was incidentally a way to connect with friends or make potential new ones.

In addition, Meta is also creating a number of tools for teenagers so that the company is immediately notified if they’re feeling any discomfort while using any applications, whilst developing some more tools to prevent self-generate photographs of intimacy from spreading online.

Elon Musk Issuing Employment Layoffs; Details Inside

0
Elon Musk
Elon Musk

Highlights

  • Twitter has been gutted and many countries almost all of Twitter workforce has been wiped off.
  • Elon Musk Sacked 50 per cent of Twitter workforce in the first week of November.
  • Layoffs didn’t end after that as Musk later fired even the ones who criticized him.

Brief Summary

Elon Musk is the richest man in the world at the moment and when he announces to buy one of the biggest social media platforms in the world, Twitter, then it will surely become the talk of the town.

It was in late 2021 when the Tesla CEO had expressed his desire to purchase Twitter for a whopping $44 billion, only to back out after the deal had been fixed, leaving Twitter owners with no choice but to take the legal route and settle things in court.

Now that Musk has purchased Twitter and become its CEO, it seems that things are changing drastically with the organization with the richest man in the world in charge of it.

For one, the new Twitter CEO is not taking anything lightly and is extremely particular about work culture, which is why he has constantly complained about its employees as he is finding the work culture there highly dissatisfying.

Musk has complained about Twitter hiring way too many employees than it can handle due to which the company’s expenses have skyrocketed, which is why on November 1, 2022, Musk had fired nearly half of the company’s employees, and that too just 4 days after acquiring the organization on October 28.

Also Read: Elon Musk’s Twitter Faces Lawsuit for Mass Layoffs: Here’s All You Need to Know About WARN Act

It seems that it is the same in many other countries as Musk seems to find the platform gutted, which is why he is terminating almost the entire Twitter workforce everywhere, including India, where almost 90% of Twitter’s 200+ employees have been laid off.

Elon Musk

Twitter CEO Parag Agarwal, along with its policy chief Vijaya Gadde, and Twitter CFO Ned Segal were shown the door within days of Musk acquiring Twitter, where he apparently also fired the entire board of directors in order to become the sole director of the organization.

Following the termination of nearly 3,700 employees in the first week of November 2022, Musk immediately issued an ultimatum via email to all the remaining ones where, apart from informing them of the layoffs, asked them to pull up their socks and start working for 40 hours a week to remain employed.

It is clear that the layoffs have been done at a global scale due to which many of them started protesting on social media, where the news spread like wildfire, resulting in people cursing and abusing Musk for taking such a decision.

However, Musk stood firm on his ground citing that the termination was necessary as the company needed to cut down their costs and improve financial condition as revenues from ad business had plummeted drastically.

As if this wasn’t enough, Musk has also fired those who have voiced their opposing opinions to the layoffs as a Twitter engineer was fired some days back for fact checking claims about the app running slowly, including 20 others who let Musk know about their thoughts on the matter on internal platforms like Slack.
