India is home to around 20% of the world’s semiconductor design engineers, says PM

0
Semicon India Conference

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India is home to around 20% of the world’s semiconductor design engineers while inaugurating Semicon India Conference 2022.

Union Ministers, leaders of the Semiconductor industry, investors, academics and members of the diplomatic corps were among those present on the three-day event in Bengaluru. Semicon India Conference started on April 29, will conclude on May 1.

Prime Minister underlined the critical role of semiconductors in today’s world and said “it is our collective aim to establish India as one of the key partners in global semiconductor supply chains. We want to work in this direction based on the principle of Hi-tech, high quality and high reliability.”

The Prime Minister underlined six reasons for India being an attractive investment destination for Semiconductor technologies.

First, India is building a digital infrastructure to connect over 1.3 billion Indians. Describing the strides that India has recently made in the field of financial inclusion, banking and digital payment revolution, the Prime Minister said “we are using digital technology to transform lives in all sectors of governance from health and welfare to inclusion and empowerment.”

Second, the Prime Minister said, with steps like connecting six hundred thousand villages with broadband investment in developing capabilities in 5G, IoT and clean energy technologies, India is paving the way to lead the next technology revolution.

Third, India is headed for robust economic growth with the world’s fastest-growing Startup Ecosystem. India’s own consumption of Semiconductors is expected to cross 80 billion Dollars by 2026 and 110 Billion Dollars by 2030.

Fourth, India has undertaken wide-ranging reforms for improving the ease of doing business in India. The Prime Minister informed about measures like the abolition of more than 25,000 compliances, a push towards auto-renewal of licenses, transparency and speed in regulatory framework via digitization and one of the most favourable taxation structures in the world.

Fifth reason, said the Prime Minister, is heavy investment in skilling and training young Indians for the needs of the 21st century. “We have an exceptional semiconductor design talent pool which makes up to 20% of the world’s semiconductor design engineers. Almost all of the top 25 semiconductor design companies have their design or R&D centres in our country”, he added.

Sixth, the Prime Minister said that India has undertaken several measures towards transforming the Indian manufacturing sector. “At a time when humanity was fighting a once in a century pandemic, India was not only improving the health of our people but also the health of our economy”, he said. Prime Minister Modi talked about ”Production Linked Incentives” schemes that offer incentives of over 26 Billion Dollars in 14 key sectors. Over the next 5 years, the electronics manufacturing sector is expected to see record growth, he informed. Shri Modi also told the audience about the recently announced Semi-con India Programme with a total outlay of over 10 billion dollars. This program aims to provide financial support to companies investing in semiconductors, display manufacturing and design ecosystems.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the need for government support and assured the audience of the best efforts of the government to provide a conducive environment for business. “While the industry works hard, the government must work even harder”, he said.

Noting the formation of the new world order, the Prime Minister asked to seize the opportunity that is emerging. “We have worked hard over the last few years to create an environment that encourages growth. India has an appetite for tech and risk-taking. We have put the odds in your favour as far as possible through a supportive policy environment. We have shown that India means business”, the Prime Minister concluded.

Xiaomi Pad 5 launched with Snapdragon 860 chipset

Xiaomi Pad 5 launched

Xiaomi has released the Pad 5 to challenge Apple’s dominance in the personal tablet market. Apple has dominated the tablet industry with different iterations of the iPad for years, and with good reason. No other tablet has been able to get into the specialized market that Apple has created. In comparison to Apple’s iPad, Android tablets have traditionally performed badly. Samsung and Lenovo are the only two companies that have a significant presence in the industry. When it comes to tablets, it’s clear that customers favour Apple. Xiaomi’s most recent tablet was introduced roughly three years ago. The Snapdragon 860 chipset is at the heart of the smartphone, which has 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage in all models. The device is powered by an 8,720 mAh battery that can charge at up to 22.5W. Xiaomi’s MIUI Global 12.5.2 runs on Android 11 on the Pad 5. The tablet was created with content consumption in mind, which is why it features a 16:10 aspect ratio. The Pad 5 includes a quad-speaker setup tuned by Harmon Kardon to make it more user-friendly for content consumption.

New feature update: Twitter will soon let you check your vibe of the day just like Facebook

0
Twitter vibe check feature spotted

Twitter has already started working on an amazing feature where users can update their vibe of the day. It’s not long before people will be able to check statutes popping up on the entire platform.

The feature is similar to the ones that Facebook and Instagram already have. The vibe check is also similar to the status feature and is still somewhere interesting. Here’s a close look at it!

Twitter will soon let you check your vibe like Facebook

The news comes from the renowned reverse engineer named Jane Manchun Wong. She first spotted the feature and couldn’t wait to break it to the audience. She even shared a screenshot, clearly showing the terms, “Set a Status” in the form of a box. This was said to be located just above the space where users write their text for a specific tweet.

The screenshots make it seem even more exciting than the actual news update. As clearly shown in the tweet, she could “set a status” using the composer box. Also, there are five pre-set moods available in the dropdown menu. All of them seem fun and super cool. So, now you could easily let people know your favourite binge-worthy k-drama with Twitter while eating your rameyeon! It has many other options from lurking on Twitter to even letting your people know if you’re shopping for your grocery.

Apart from Wong, Alessandro Paluzzi, who keeps an eye on all insider updates and shares about every unreleased feature, has also spotted this Twitter feature. He even shared a tweet, saying,  “Twitter is working on Vibes… It should also be possible to add an emoji, perhaps it is something similar to the feeling/activity option of Facebook posts.”

Now, the latest feature only has five statuses in the drop-down menu. At this time, there is no word on whether Twitter users will be able to modify their status updates or whether they will have to rely on pre-made ones. Whatever the situation may be, many people believe the software has been in development for a long time. Wong has even said that this upcoming Vibe Check is the same as the ‘Threads App Status,’ found on applications like Instagram.

We’re not sure if the function will really be used, but it’s giving us a lot of feelings about the traditional Facebook activities section. Furthermore, it is fair to argue that it gives a post an extra dosage of personality. However, for the time being, we’ll simply have to wait and see when the firm announces the ‘Vibe Check.’

Why Instagram’s pinned posts could be beneficial for many

0
iOS users can now delete their Instagram using the app itself, here's how to do it

Instagram has been constantly updating its features to improve user’s experience. Reportedly, the Meta-owned photo sharing app is working on a new feature to allow its users to pin their post on top of their page or profile. Facebook, another Meta-owned platform and Twitter already have this feature.

Pinning a post is a great way to feature an important announcement or highlight some of your best content to your followers and friends.

Why pinned post is important

Having pinned post feature will allow creators and other professionals to highlight some of their best work on the top of their profiles. The addition of ‘pinned post’ feature will not force visitors to scroll through many posts searching for what they want. The ‘pinned post feature’ will make Instagram feed more of a ‘portfolio’ for artists to showcase their best and most relevant work.

Instagram is yet to share any confirmed update on when the feature will go live for everyone. Many a time, Instagram releases new features for users of limited countries and regions before others. It means Indian users may have to wait longer to get this feature in their profile on Instagram. Currently, India is home to 230.25 million Instagram users, the largest audience pool in the world.

Family Center – a new, central place for parents/guardians to be more involved in their teens’ online experience, ‘Top’ and ‘Reels’ are among other new features introduced by the Instagram to offer a smooth user experience.
