Snapchat rolled out ‘Shared Stories’

Snapchat has rolled out its latest feature making it easier and more convenient for the users to share snaps together. It is named the ‘Shared Stories’. Using this new feature users can tap on the shared stories option and create a new story while selecting the same. In a way, the feature is like a group on WhatsApp where users can share images, and here instead the images will be Snaps created via the Snapchat camera and they will function as Snaps do.

Snapchat rolled out 'Shared Stories'

Shared Stories, according to Snapchat, are a new sort of Custom Stories, which previously enabled Snapchat users to create a Story and invite others to see and contribute to it. Now, with the new Shared Stories feature, users who have been added to the group can add their friends as well, “making it easier for the whole soccer team, camp, squad, or group of new coworkers to get in on the fun.” In a related post, Snapchat has also confirmed that it is working on a more enhanced parental controls feature, allowing the guardians to keep a track of their kids’ Snapchat activities.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro might feature an always-on display

As per some fresh tips, Apple’s upcoming iPhone 14 might feature an always-on display. This will only be available on its other higher versions- iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Reportedly, Apple is working on rolling the feature out with iOS 16, which will allow the top-end iPhone 14 Pro to show a few things on the display when it is locked. His intel corroborates what we have heard about the iPhone 14 Pro, and considering Gurman is a credible source, this could be the time that an always-on display will arrive on the iPhone.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro might feature an always-on display

According to Gurman, the always-on display mode on the iPhone will be the same as it is on the Apple Watch Series 5 and higher models. This directly indicates that both the supported models: the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max will lower the frame rate of the screen when the always-on mode is enabled, reducing the battery usage amount.

Samsung to soon reduce the production by 30M in 2022

Soon after Apple’s announcement of reducing its production to 20M this year, Samsung is next in the row. Reportedly, Samsung has announced cutting back on its production as well. The first quarter of 2022 had proven to be one of the best years for Samsung. The Samsung Galaxy S22 series managed to bag all the customers this year.  It is also one of the highest performing Q1s that Samsung has had in a long time. The demand for its Galaxy S22 series is still the highest. Following this high demand, Samsung also planned to produce almost 310 million smartphones at the start of the year. The brand also has almost 24% of the global smartphone market at its disposal.

Samsung to soon reduce the production by 30M in 2022

The most anticipated reasons for these major steps are similar to those of Apple. Inflation has resulted in a decrease in demand as well as greater expenses, resulting in reduced production. Furthermore, a key source of production stumbling blocks is the scarcity of chips.

Vivo T2X launched in China

The Vivo T2X arrived in China sooner than predicted. The mid-range smartphone was set to go on sale with the standard Vivo T2 starting June 6. The T2X, on the other hand, has been secretly disclosed by the brand, along with its price specs and features. The front camera is housed in a waterdrop notch on the Vivo T2X’s 6.58-inch IPS LCD. The phone’s display features a refresh rate of 144Hz and a touch sampling rate of 240Hz. It has a peak brightness of 650 nits and supports the DCI-P3 colour gamut.

The T2X packs a MediaTek Dimensity 1300 processor paired with 256GB of internal storage and 8GB RAM. It also features a massive 6000 mAh battery and supports 44W fast charging out of the box. With this speed, the company also claims that the phone can be charged from zero to 50 per cent in about 35 minutes. As for the camera, it has a 50MP primary camera supported by a 2MP macro sensor. However, their wait may end soon. WhatsApp is all set to launch its iPad version, making it convenient for iPad users to access the app. India was the world’s leading country in terms of WhatsApp subscribers as of June 2021. In India, WhatsApp has 487 million users, making it the most popular messaging app in the country.

WhatsApp to introduce an exclusive iPad version soon

However, iPad has always been at the disadvantage of not getting to use the app freely. As the app does not work on iPad, customers have to utilise other messaging applications to communicate with their loved ones. And it was just sad to see them downloading other messaging apps on the iPad, but WhatsApp not being one of them. Existing iPad users have always demanded WhatsApp accessibility on their devices, and finally, their wishes might be granted soon.

Reportedly, the Meta-owned messaging app is expected to launch an iPad version soon. WhatsApp is working on a Multi-device 2.0, reported WABetaInfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp features. It will have the ability to support iPads. This new ability would help the users to connect their iPads or Android tablets to their existing WhatsApp accounts. They would be able to login into their existing WhatsApp accounts using four different devices, thanks to the multi-device connectivity. However, they would not be able to access their accounts from two different phones at the same time. WhatsApp would allow its users to have their phone as their primary account. Then, they can use the same WhatsApp functions through WhatsApp Web, WhatsApp portal and WhatsApp desktop versions.

The report also says that WhatsApp is working to bring the app support for Macbooks as well. It will soon come up with a macOS version to support WhatsApp on Macbooks too. Currently, you can find WhatsApp on your respective systems, Play Store for Android and App Store for iPhone.

Download all your WhatsApp data

Reportedly, WhatsApp Desktop is developing a feature that would allow users to download all their account information easily. Users won’t even need to use the app on their phones. While it already allows users to download all the information it collects about them, it is still only available on mobile unless you are on a particular beta version of the desktop interface.

Silently exit the group

WhatsApp will soon allow the users to make a quiet exit from all unnecessary conversations as well as groups. The feature is called the Silent Exit which will allow the members to leave groups quietly. Also, other group members will not be aware of their exit, which is one of the best parts of it. As per the information on WABetaInfo, only the members who have left their groups and their group admins will be notified about it. WABetaInfo said, “WhatsApp normally adds a system message in the chat to inform all participants that you exited the group: this information will only show up to group admins in the future. Group admins should always be notified about what happens in their groups, so it is needed to show them who exited a group.”

Quick message reactions

The feature has made quite a thud in the market since its availability. It was also one of the most-awaited features on WhatsApp. Just like Instagram, users can now react to messages and save themselves from all the forced conversations they had to be part of before. You get five emojis and you can use whichever suits your conversation the best, Reactions feature on WhatsApp start rolling out today, says Mark Zuckerberg. Minecraft Wild update release confimed, new edition coming in June

Mojang’s Minecraft has been quite popular since its release. The way this game challenges the mind of the player is quite unique and at the same time very fascinating. It’s not late when the game rolled out its recent pre-release including some great updates and upgrades. These included some improved security patches and a lot of interesting features. Now, the game is set to release its next update- The Wild Update (1.19 version) officially in June. Here’s what to expect from it!

Minecraft Wild Update release: Availability

The latest Wild Update is set to roll out starting June 7, 2022. Mojang has worked with the Minecraft community real hard to make this update one of the best survival series. Hence, the new Wild Update is expected to add many adventurous features and exciting content to the game. The update is finally here and the players can’t wait to try their survival moves in this one.

Along with its availability on Android, the new Wild Update is also going to be available on platforms including Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac, Linux, and iOS. Minecraft’s upcoming update has been under active development and testing for months and not the developers have finally decided to release the update to the public. This upcoming update for the game is expected to cement Minecraft’s place as one of the greatest games on Xbox and PC.

Here’s what the new update have in store:

Minecraft The Wild Update: Five new mobs

The game is also likely to introduce five new mobs that are — Tadpoles and frogs, Alay, Shriekers and Warden. Tadpoles and frogs grow from frogspawn and will be available in multiple varieties depending upon the temperature of the biome where they will — live, eat tiny slime blocks and produce frog light blocks. On the other hand, Allay is expected to be a friendly companion to any player as it will be able to collect items similar to the one it holds and can also attach to note-blocks. Meanwhile, shriekers can be found in the Deep Dark and can give off powerful screeches if they detect vibrations through sculk blocks. Lastly, the Wardens will be there will attack players that make too much noise. Wardens are powerful enemies that remain hidden and buried within the Deep Dark and are capable of crushing physical attacks and a ranged “sonic boom” attack.

Minecraft The Wild Update: New gameplay features

Minecraft’s upcoming update features new gameplay that mainly focuses on the Deep Dark biome. This new biome is a dangerous location where players need to be cautious and prepared. The Wild update will enable sculk blocks to detect vibrations from everything that makes a sound. On detecting vibration, these sculk blocks produce a Redstone signal that can alert shriekers. If the noise made by the player is not enough to alert the wardens, the screech of a shrieker will surely do so. Wardens are dangerous enemies and players shouldn’t battle with them unless it is necessary. These enemies present in the Deep Dark biome are blind and respond primarily to sound. Players who can quietly make it through the Deep Dark will be able to secure some valuable loot from Ancient City structures.

Apart from these new additions, Minecraft players will have plenty to explore in the new update. However, a report by Windows Central suggests that the upcoming update is not as ‘ambitious or epic’ as the last one — the Caves and Cliffs Update. The report also mentions that a few planned features for The Wild Update will be removed while other previously announced features might not even arrive with this update. Moreover, Fireflies will not arrive in Minecraft, birch forest biomes will not get a remake and archaeology is still missing after it was delayed since the Caves and Cliffs Update, claimed the report.

In other gaming news, Apex Legends Mobile is expected to introduce a new character with its next update.

Microsoft soon to bring its own Xbox Cloud Gaming streaming device

0
Microsoft soon to bring its own Xbox Cloud Gaming streaming device

It was not that late when Apple announced its investment in the brand’s own AR headsets. It is the new way Apple bringing to replace the traditional iPhones. Now, we have another bang on news coming from Microsoft. The brand is all set to bring its own Xbox Cloud Gaming streaming device. Yes, “Keystone” named Microsoft exclusive gaming serive is in development!

In addition to providing Xbox Game Pass access through Xbox Cloud Gaming, Microsoft said in June that it is working on a dedicated Xbox Streaming stick. A recent Windows Central story also indicates that the gadget, codenamed ‘Keystone,’ delivers a “modernised HDMI streaming device,” akin to Chromecast and Google Stadia. However, Microsoft has said that this version will not be made public.

In a statement to Windows Central, Microsoft says: “Our vision for Xbox Cloud Gaming is unwavering, our goal is to enable people to play the games they want, on the devices they want, anywhere they want. As announced last year, we’ve been working on a game-streaming device, codename Keystone, that could be connected to any TV or monitor without the need for a console.”

Elaborating further, it stated “As part of any technical journey, we are constantly evaluating our efforts, reviewing our learnings, and ensuring we are bringing value to our customers. We have made the decision to pivot away from the current iteration of the Keystone device. We will take our learnings and refocus our efforts on a new approach that will allow us to deliver Xbox Cloud Gaming to more players around the world in the future.”

It’s unclear what adjustments Microsoft is planning at the moment, but it’s evident that the Xbox streaming stick isn’t ready yet. Due to a global chip scarcity, Xbox Series X|S consoles are still hard to come by, despite recent stock increases. In the interim, there’s the promise of a dedicated streaming stick.

Microsoft’s foray into cloud gaming is paying off

Xbox Cloud Gaming has grown significantly since its launch in March, when it surpassed 10 million subscribers. It’s a remarkable achievement, yet one that wasn’t achieved fully on its own merits. Cloud streaming is available exclusively with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Microsoft’s premium membership service. Hundreds of bundled games are also available via cloud streaming, so users won’t have to pay for them separately.

As a result, it’s succeeding where competitors like Google Stadia and Amazon Luna have failed to do so. It’s available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and mobile devices, so existing subscribers may try it out without spending any money.

There is a tremendous potential in satellite communications, says ISpA Director General

0
Lt. Gen. AK Bhatt (Retd.), Director General, ISpA

With satellite communications gaining importance like never before, Indian Space Association (ISpA) – launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October last year – has a great role to play in making this a success. ISpA aspires to be the collective voice of the Indian Space industry and undertakes policy advocacy and engage with all stakeholders in the Indian Space domain, including the government and its agencies, to make India self-reliant, technologically advanced and a leading player in the space arena. Lt. Gen. AK Bhatt (Retd.), Director General, ISpA, in a conversation with Ramesh Kumar Raja, elucidates how India is becoming a huge potential market for the co-existence of multiple space/satellite players to do business here, which would eventually mean the growth of satcom services as well as the space economy in the country. Excerpts:

Although satellite communication systems have been around for some time, a lot has changed recently. How do you look at this development?

Traditionally, Geosynchronous Equatorial Orbit (GEO) communication satellites have been utilised for space/satellite communications across industries, enabling vital applications such as weather mapping, navigation, and communications. Low Earth Orbit (LEO) communication satellites have recently emerged as a viable option for many international satellite companies such as Starlink, OneWeb, Amazon’s Kuiper, etc. These companies have already been setting up large global satellite constellations in Earth’s lower orbit in the last few years to provide satellite communication services around the world.

These new LEO satellites have the ability to reach the remotest of areas where terrestrial communication or internet services have not yet reached. They also provide low latency, high speed services to the users. These applications have the possibility to revolutionise the entire communication systems.

Companies such as Starlink, OneWeb and others are prepping for the big fight in satcom services. Where do you see this revolution going?

India is a huge potential market for the co-existence of multiple space/satellite players to do business here, which would eventually mean the growth of satcom services as well as the space economy in the country.

Despite the fact that these companies have been establishing their LEO satellite constellations for some time, new LEO Satcom services are still in their early stages in many nations. These communication services with low latency and high speeds have already shown to be extremely useful in disaster-stricken areas and providing emergency communication services. The LEO satellites, by their very nature can provide ubiquitous communication in difficult geographies where terrestrial communications are unavailable and are difficult to connect.

We see tremendous potential in satellite communications, and all participants must work together to help this technology achieve its maximum capabilities and revolutionize the communication infrastructure in the country. Satcom will help in connecting the one connected and overcoming the digital divide. The DoT has recently signed the first license agreement for satellite broadband With OneWeb and the satellite company has plans to commence satcom services very soon.  Also, OneWeb has signed an agreement with the NSIL, the commercial arm of ISRO to launch its satellite constellations from India. These historic landmarks in the journey of making India a global space hub and increase its share which is currently 2.6% in the global space economy.

Satcom tech is comparable to terrestrial 5G services in terms of speed and latency. Is it so?

GEO based services in Satcom had the disadvantage of speed and latency. The constellation of satellites in the LEO orbit provide better speed and far lower latency making the users experience seamless even in far flung areas. As things progress, the LEO satellite providers claim that they would be able to provide comparable capacities and speed.

“The satellite connectivity will complement the traditional mobile connectivity that is being used by the consumers right now. With increase in demand for capacities and need for connecting far flung areas, satcom will provide backhaul capacities for terrestrial communication”

Satellite connectivity complements mobile network connectivity. What will be its use cases in time to come?

The satellite connectivity will complement the traditional mobile connectivity that is being used by the consumers right now. With increase in demand for capacities and need for connecting far flung areas, satcom will provide backhaul capacities for terrestrial communication and connect consumers where terrestrial communications cannot be established due to difficult terrain or lesser penetration due to fiberisation costs/challenges. Overall satcom will be a co-traveller with terrestrial communication to provide ubiquitous communication.

What’s your take on the TRAI’s recent recommendation that calls for co-existence of satellite communications and IMT?

ISpA welcomes TRAI’s recommendation that calls for co-existence of satellite communications and IMT in the 27.5-28.5 GHz band. We also appreciate recommending an exclusion zone for satellite earth stations (Earth to Space) in the 27.5-28.5 GHz band.

However, we are of the considered view that including all available spectrum in the 24.25-28.5 GHz bands along with low and mid bands in the auction is a case of oversupply to terrestrial telecom at the cost of the satellite industry. The 24.25-27.5 GHz bands along with 3.3-3.67 GHz band would be more than sufficient for 5G. Therefore, in line with the global best practices, the 28 GHz band should be allocated exclusively for satellite communications for future growth of the Space industry and in order to fulfil Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of making India a major player in the global space domain.

“ISpA welcomes TRAI’s recommendation that calls for co-existence of satellite communications and IMT in the 27.5-28.5 GHz band. We also appreciate recommending an exclusion zone for satellite earth stations (Earth to Space) in the 27.5-28.5 GHz band”

Can you please tell us about the role of ISpA in taking the satellite communication to the next level?

ISpA has already been involved in discussions with the Department of Space around the New Space Policy and given its recommendation on behalf of its members. We look at it as a positive policy which will have IN-SPACe as a single window for private industry to interact with and also be a stepping stone for the launch of satcom and other private space services in India.

ISpA’s objective is to advocate and facilitate private and public sector engagement, growth, and capacity building in India’s entire space domain. We are working with the Indian government, regulatory entities, and national and international organisations to achieve this goal along with other stakeholders, and participate in formulating effective, efficient and appropriate policies and regulatory frameworks for ease of doing business and policy stability.

What are the challenges you foresee for in India where satcom has a very long way to go in order to compete with telecom?

The space policy encompassing spacecom, remote sensing and other critical areas is in the final stages within the government and will be introduced this year. This will also be followed by the Space Activity Bill. With the Policy and Bill in place, we are positive that the space sector will experience an enormous boom with private players being a big part of India’s new space journey in all domains, be it upstream, mid-stream or in satcom, remote sensing and other downstream applications.

Presently, satcom may be marginally expensive in comparison with terrestrial communication. However, with its inherent ability to reach the remotest area, combined with economy of scales will make it a viable and desirable option in the future.
