Robotic Labs to be set up in six states to empower underserved students with digital learning skills

With an aim to empower underserved students with digital learning skills, Vodafone Idea Foundation, the CSR arm of Vi, and Ericsson India have partnered to set up state-of-the-art Robotic Labs in ten schools across the country. These labs will prepare school going children aged 11-14 years to participate in future technological studies.

The Robotics Labs will be established at Vodafone Idea Foundation schools located in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat.

The upcoming Digital Labs are aimed to create an open atmosphere for learning and to instill courage among students to embrace technology and imbibe a problem-solving approach.

These labs will also help to improve the students’ education and employment prospects across Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Under the initiative, students will be offered an exciting learning experience and develop skills such as teamwork, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking.

The robotics course curriculum will focus on providing basic understanding of programming logic in the context of robotics, application of design theory on how to construct a robot to solve basic tasks, use of different datatypes such as string, Booleans etc. through a mix of face-to-face and virtual training sessions. A comprehensive Train-the-Trainer programme will help scale this up to benefit a larger segment of the society in future.

Emphasising on the importance of digital skills for the holistic growth of the youth in the digital era, P Balaji, Chief Regulatory and Corporate Affairs Officer – Vodafone Idea Limited, and Director – Vodafone Idea Foundation said, school going children must be exposed to coding and robotics to spark creativity, stimulates critical thinking, imbues a collaborative mindset and opens up a world of opportunities.

Nothing Phone (1) launch date surfaced online

Nothing stated in March of this year that it would release its first smartphone, the Nothing Phone (1), in the summer of 2022. Nothing creator Carl Pei also indicated that the smartphone comes powered by Qualcomm’s system-on-chip. Apple, Google, and Microsoft joined up on World Password Day to boost support for the FIDO Alliance and the World Wide Web Consortium’s passwordless sign-in standard. This is a “milestone” in the passwordless journey, according to the stakeholders and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Password-only authentication, according to FIDO, is one of the most serious security problems on the internet. It also added that it is leading to consumer irritation, account takeovers, data breaches, and even stolen identities. “Passwords are one of the industry’s greatest and most pervasive security vulnerabilities and most intractable problems,” Beyond Identity CMO Patrick McBride told SDxCentral. “Efforts like FIDO are critical as they endeavour to address different use cases to try and start to move away from password dependence.”

Finally, the wait is over and Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp has started rolling out Reactions feature. The announcement was made by Meta Platforms Inc’s chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg via Instagram and Facebook.

Initially referred to as Emoji Reactions, Message Reactions, and Quick Reactions in the past, the WhatsApp Reactions feature has been in testing since 2018. Earlier, they were planning to stay limited to sticker reactions, before it took something similar to its final form in testing last year.

Last month, WhatsApp added a new feature to WhatsApp called Communities. The newly added feature will enable people to bring together separate groups under one umbrella with a structure that works for them.

This will allow people to receive updates sent to the entire Community and easily organize smaller discussion groups on what matters to them. Communities will also contain powerful new tools for admins, including announcement messages that are sent to everyone and control over which groups can be included.

WhatsApp had also teased more upcoming updates, including increased file sharing limit (up to 2GB) and the ability to enable group audio calls for up to 32 people simultaneously, of which so far only the latter has been rolled out.

WhatsApp is also making a number of improvements to how groups work on WhatsApp — whether or not they are part of a Community. WhatsApp believes these will help people share in new ways and reduce overload in larger chats.

The budget smartphone Smart 6, launched by Infinix is all set to go on sale from May 6. The recently launched smartphone will be available for purchase via e-commerce platform Flipkart.

The pocket-friendly smartphone, Smart 6, featuring highest storage, bigger & brighter screen, a dedicated fingerprint sensor, and several other category-first cutting-edge features, can be purchased at Rs 7499.

Available in four colour variants: Polar Black, Heart of Ocean, Light Sea Green, and Starry Purple, Smart 6 has an anti-bacterial back panel, which comes with silver ions sprayed on the final finish.

The smart 6 has been launched in in a 64GB storage variant. With just 8.8mm thickness, Smart 6 is the slimmest device in this price segment. Featuring 6.6” HD+ screen and 500 NITS of brightness, Smart 6 ensures a bigger and brighter mobile viewing experience. Its cinematic screen has a 1500:1 contrast ratio and 72% NTSC colour demonstration.

Backed by the latest Android 11(Go Edition), Smart 6 is powered by a 12nm Helio A22 Quad-Core processor and comes with a pre-installed Android Go feature to improve the app start-up time by almost 15%. The device also has a dedicated 3-in-1 SD card slot with an expandable memory of up to 512 GB.
