Xiaomi India partners with Saahas to support Karnataka’s e-waste awareness drive

0

Xiaomi India today announced its partnership with Saahas Zero Waste to extend support for an e-waste awareness drive, initiated by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB).

In a month-long initiative, KSPCB along with the help of Saahas Zero Waste, Xiaomi India and other participating brands aim to spread awareness across all 31 districts of Karnataka reaching out to a total of approximately 5 million citizens.

With the support of urban local bodies, all participating electronics retailers have pledged to station e-waste collection bins across all stores, after sales and service centers in Karnataka. The initiative will also include developing suitable awareness content, manage collection of all the e-waste and channelize the same for recycling to authorized recyclers. Through awareness drives, KSPCB along with brands like Xiaomi India aim to build a sense of responsibility to repair, refurbish, donate and recycle amongst the consumers. The focus will be on collecting about 100 tonnes of e-waste over the next 1 month.

Manu Kumar Jain, Managing Director, Xiaomi India, said, “At Xiaomi India, our focus is not only on responsible recycling, but also on awareness generation. KSPCB’s initiative to spread awareness on e-waste is a step forward towards building a sustainable and future ready tomorrow. We are honoured and privileged to be a part of this e-waste drive in Karnataka. Our partnership with Saahas Zero waste further encourages us to push the boundaries of building a more sustainable and future ready tomorrow for consumers across the city.”

Dr. Shanth A Thimmaiah, Chairman, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board said, “Disposal of e-waste, if not done properly, can be hazardous to the environment and health. While thousands of tonnes of waste is generated annually, many authorised recyclers and dismantlers say their vast plants remain woefully underused. Apart from requesting bulk generators to ‘voluntarily’ give information about the type of e-waste being generated, we aim to instill a sense of responsibility amongst the consumers as well. With this initiative, our aim is to not only spread awareness about the importance of proper e-waste management but also do our duty towards building a safer and cleaner environment. We are extremely proud to have brands like Xiaomi be part of our initiative and look forward to building a better and brighter India for future generations.”

According to the MEITY Annual Report 2020-2021, in 2019, India generated 3.2 Mn tonnes of e-waste of which only 10% was formally collected and recycled. While India has a very long way to go in correctly dealing with e-waste, the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board is making it possible through their awareness drives to fasten the process. Xiaomi India in partnership with Saahas Zero Waste aims at making this awareness drive a success.

A number of brands have taken to merchandising and D2C businesses in recent times to strengthen their footprint. Understanding the pulse of the audience, Pocket Aces too, has forayed into D2C products with the launch of merchandise for their popular show ‘Little Things’, and now for their esports drama ‘Clutch’.

The model for Clutch merchandise is unique, where the original jerseys that the characters wore during the show have been auctioned to audiences. Pocket Aces is doubling this amount, and all proceeds are going to an organization called Enabling Leadership for their “Just for Kicks” program.

‘Clutch’ received immense love and appreciation from fans, crossing over 25 million views. Taking this fandom of the show forward for a good cause, Dice Media is auctioning jerseys worn by the lead star cast in the series. Vishal Vashishtha, Ahsaas Channa, Saurabh Ghadge, Pratiek Pachori and Tirth Joisher have autographed their respective jerseys, which fans can get their hands on through this fundraiser on Dice Media’s Instagram handle ‘@dicemediaindia’. The auction that commenced on November 19 has raised a whopping INR 30,000 from audiences in just 5 days. Pocket Aces will be doubling this amount and donating INR 60,000 to charity.

What makes this auction even more exciting is the selection of charity chosen to share the proceeds with. The ‘Just For Kicks’ program by Enabling Leadership impacts 3600+ students across India, Battambang, Cambodia. With the motto ‘Everyone Plays’, Just For Kicks works in schools to help children garner multiple bene?ts of leadership development using football as a medium.

Ravi Sonnad, Founder & CEO, Enabling Leadership, shared, “We are thrilled to have received support from Pocket Aces. We eagerly look forward to opportunities like these that nurture our vision to build a better and brighter future for all our children.”

Showrunner for Clutch and CEO, Co-Founder of Pocket Aces, Aditi Shrivastava was thrilled to share, “The marriage between entertainment IP (be it ?lms or shows) and merchandise is extremely well developed internationally, but still quite nascent in India. We are trying to kickstart this here with the goal of giving our audiences high quality memorabilia of their favorite shows and characters. We are experimenting with di?erent merchandise models for our popular shows such as Little Things and Clutch, and we are glad to see such an amazing reception for it. The auction-for-charity model we adopted with Clutch is especially close to my heart – sports as a sector is quite underfunded in India, and since Clutch is a sports drama, the Just For Kicks program was the perfect way to give back.”

The demonstration, which was conducted on the outskirts of Kolkata, was also the first 5G trial in eastern India.

Leveraging the enhanced propagation characteristics of the 700 MHz band, Airtel and Nokia were able to achieve high speed wireless broadband network coverage of 40 km between two 3GPP standard 5G sites in real life conditions. Airtel used equipment from Nokia’s 5G portfolio, which included Nokia AirScale radios and standalone (SA) core.

Randeep Singh Sekhon, CTO – Bharti Airtel, said, “Back in 2012, Airtel launched India’s first 4G service in Kolkata. Today, we are delighted conduct India’s first 5G demo in the coveted 700 MHz band in the city to showcase the power of this technology standard. Naresh Asija, VP and Head of Bharti CT, Nokia, said, “5G deployment using 700Mhz spectrum is helping communications service providers across the world to cost-effectively provide mobile broadband in remote areas, where typically it is challenging for them to set up the network infrastructure. Nokia is at the forefront in the development of the global 5G ecosystem, and we look forward to supporting Airtel on its 5G journey.”

Earlier this year, Airtel demonstrated India’s first 5G experience over a live 4G network. It also demonstrated India’s first rural 5G trial as well as the first cloud gaming experience on 5G. As part of #5GforBusiness, Airtel has joined forces with leading global consulting and technology companies and brands to test 5G based solutions.

Qlan launches with 50,000 pre-registrations on Google Play Store

Qlan, an interactive social networking app dedicated for gamers, announced their successful launch on Google Play Store with 50,000 pre-registrations on Thursday. The exclusive platform presents a whole new approach to connect and engage with the gaming and esports community with a vision of creating a robust and sustainable ecosystem.

The platform is developed for gamers, gaming professionals, squads, orgs, tournament organizers, content creators and other stakeholders in the industry to build, find and exchange value to further their growth. The brainchild of Sagar Nair, co-founder and CEO, and Navin Talreja, co-founder and CBO, Qlan, envision the growth of the esports industry while being one of the enablers in the process.

“It is a surreal feeling to successfully launch Qlan. Gaming and esports is our passion and we understand the massive potential that this segment has. While in the existing social setup, gamers and the esports ecosystem were unable to address various issues like making the right connections, proper recognition for their in-game talent, a structured system for players and skilled individuals to showcase their skills, creating and sharing content in one designated gaming only platform. The idea is to unite the existing fragmented communities and facilitate value exchange amongst them. These lacunas in the existing social system obstructed the right talent from getting tapped. And that is what prompted Qlan’s inception, it will address existing grassroot problems that the gaming ecosystem has been facing in the social space all this while,” said Sagar Nair, Co-founder and CEO of Qlan.

It is a genre-specific one stop networking app with some of the key features like:

  1. Create custom solo, squad & org profiles
  2. Showcase gaming skills by syncing in-game statistics
  3. Share gaming & esports content with an option to monetise early
  4. Promote esports tournaments, brands & IPs to a targeted audience
  5. Access AI-enabled gamer matchmaking for verified connections

This AI-based networking app offers the stakeholders in the business and the thriving esports community to meet, communicate and get discovered. Providing optimum opportunities to new prospects while augmenting the industry further.

“We are eagerly looking forward to how our early users respond to Qlan. After months of research and gathering insights by conducting various pro-to type surveys and trials we were able to understand the existing, unattended problems, and that motivated us to come up with the solution—QLAN. Qlan is built with a focused vision on uniting the key stakeholders in the industry to build, find and exchange value to bolster their own communities and business. We believe it would prove to be an industry game changer. Whether you’re looking to go pro, find your esports squad, seek professional opportunities in the industry, in Qlan you have a trusted enabler for anything you want to achieve in the gaming and esports space,” said Navin Talreja, Co-founder and CBO after the launch.

With the successful app launch, Qlan envisions becoming the most trusted and secured platform for the gaming and esports community. The app is currently accessible to android users and it plans to soon launch the app for iOS users as well.
