Premium earbuds comparison: Echo Buds vs Galaxy Buds vs Airpods

0

The truly wireless stereo (TWS) earbuds market has shown tremendous growth in India of late. According to a report by research firm Canalys, the Indian smart personal audio market grew 62% in the third quarter of 2021.

With a massive 220.5% jump in shipments from 0.9 million in Q3 2020 to 2.8 million in Q3 2021, homegrown brand Boat registered the highest growth in the country. Globally, Apple continued to dominate the market.

Despite a 33.7% decline from 26.8 million units shipped in Q3 2020 to 17.6 million units in Q3 2021, Apple emerged as the top brand followed by Samsung and others.

In view of the increasing demands for wireless, portable, and compact earbuds, Amazon has recently unveiled its Echo Buds (2nd Generation) in India.  With the launch of Echo Buds (2nd Generation) in India, Amazon has also intensified competition in the premium segment of TWS in India.

Earbuds have become a must-have accessory to get an engaging sound experience. With easy Bluetooth connectivity, TWS allows working anytime, anywhere without caring for tangling chords. If you have made up your mind to buy a pair of earbuds in the premium segment, you are in the right place. We have compared the earbuds offered by premium brands including Apple, Samsung, and Amazon on all major parameters such as specifications, price, and color availability to help you decide the better choice for you.

In the premium segment, Apple, Samsung, and Amazon offer Echo Buds, Galaxy Buds, and Airpods, respectively. Starting with the design, the article will focus on key specifications to know the products better and choose the best suitable for you.

Design

The AirPods Pro and Galaxy Buds Pro are designed differently. The AirPods Pro has an angled stem for easy placement and removal as well as a stable fit. The Galaxy Buds Pro is more compact while Echo Buds are small, light, and sweat-resistant and come with different sizes of ear tips. Design-wise Echo Buds look like Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro.

Thanks to a slight protrusion from the side of the earbud that serves as a mini wingtip, the Galaxy Buds Pro offers a stable and comfortable fit. It is good to use the silicone ear tip size to avoid issues while using the AirPods Pro and Galaxy Buds Pro. Users can take the ear-tip fit test in the Alexa app to get an optimal fit for Echo Buds (2nd Generation).

AirPods Pro is smaller, feels lighter in your ear while Galaxy Buds Pro having a round design with tap panels on the side, feels a bit heavier in your ear as compared to the AirPods Pro.

Buds design

Active Noise cancellation

To allow you to focus on your music or work, Echo Buds, Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro, and AirPods Pro offer active noise cancellation (ANC).

In addition to the battery capacity, the AirPods Pro’s case provides a total of 24 hours of listening time.

The Galaxy Buds Pro lasted 4 hours, 48 minutes on a single charge with ANC turned on, and its case holds approximately 13 additional hours of battery juice. The Samsung Buds charges via USB-C which is definitely a more universal method of charging than what the AirPods Pro offers.

Similar to Samsung Buds, Android and iOS compatible Amazon Echo Buds 2nd Generation can also be charged via USB-C (comes with the box).  A wireless charging option is also available for Amazon Echo Buds. These earbuds can be charged with compatible Qi-certified wireless charging pads which need to be purchased separately.

To check battery status while wearing, you can say, “Alexa, what’s my battery status?” You can also check the battery status in the Alexa app, or open the case while your Echo Buds are inside and the LED lights in front of each earbud will show the battery status.

Junio raises USD 6 Million in Pre-Series A round

0

Digital payments and pocket money app for kids Junio stated that it had raised USD 6 million in a Pre-Series A fundraising round led by UAE-based NB Ventures, with the Rajiv Dadlani Group playing a key role.

The Fintech firm plans to use the extra funds to expand its team, introduce new product features, and ramp up client acquisition efforts.

Junio, created by Shankar Nath and Ankit Gera, intends to digitise children’s pocket money and become the preferred digital payment method. The platform provides a “smart card” that allows children to make purchases both offline and online. The purpose of the New Delhi-based firm is to instil financial discipline and knowledge in children in a pleasant and practical way. Parents can see their children’s spending habits and help them learn about money management at a young age.

Ankit Gera and Shankar Nath, Co-Founders of Junio said, “Since we introduced our app last year, we’ve seen massive uptake. The parent-child community has a high level of acceptance. We’re currently working on adding new and exciting features while focusing on making the product more user-friendly. We are delighted to have our new investors on board, and thank them for their support.”

Neelesh Bhatnagar of NB Ventures said, “Shankar and Ankit have previously handled large-scale digital payments, and we’re impressed by Junio’s rapid growth. Junio will teach young children how to make digital payments, reducing their reliance on cash. The potential for youngsters to make digital payments is enormous, and we have only scratched the surface. Junio, with their outstanding product and industry insight, is well positioned to capitalise on new, inventive use cases.

“Pocket money is a centuries-old concept that has changed over time. Using technology and digitization, the Junio app is now attempting to change the sector. The pandemic has pushed us towards a cashless economy, and while pocketmoney and digital payment by kids are in their nascent stage in India right now, there is a huge potential. We are totally aligned with the vision of the team and happy to be a part of their journey,” said Rajiv Dadlani.

Junio received USD 2 million in fundraising in 2021 from well-known angel investors like Kunal Shah and Yashish Dahiya, Venture Catalysts, and family offices managed by the Rajiv Dadlani Group.

Junio, which is headquartered in Delhi, has users all around the country. The primary users are children aged 10 to 16 who have embraced all things digital.

MediaTek Dimensity 8000 chip series for premium 5G smartphones launched: Details inside

0

Fabless semiconductor major MediaTek has launched the Dimensity 8100 and Dimensity 8000 system-on-chips (SoCs) to bring flagship level technology – connectivity, displays, gaming, multimedia and imaging features – to premium 5G smartphones.

Both chips borrow the advanced technology from MediaTek’s powerful flagship Dimensity 9000 platform and package it into the new Dimensity 8000 series which is built on the ultra-efficient TSMC 5nm production process with an octa-core CPU.

The Dimensity 8100 integrates four premium Arm Cortex-A78 cores with speeds reaching 2.85GHz, and the Dimensity 8000 has four Cortex-A78 cores operating at up to 2.75GHz.

“You could say the MediaTek Dimensity 8000 series is the little brother to our flagship Dimensity 9000 chip. Meaning it brings flagship grade features and next level energy efficiency to the premium smartphone market,” said CH Chen, Deputy General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit.

Both chips combine an Arm Mali-G610 MC6 GPU with MediaTek’s HyperEngine 5.0 gaming technologies for exceptional power-efficiency that extends play time, and best-in-class frame rates – 170fps for the Dimensity 8100 and 140fps for the Dimensity 8000. Quad-channel LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 storage ensure ultra-fast data streams.

The new Dimensity 8000 series also uses MediaTek’s Open Resource Architecture to give device makers the flexibility to customize and differentiate features so they can make 5G smartphones and 5G experiences that truly stand out.

The Dimensity 8000 series integrates MediaTek’s fifth generation AI processing unit, APU 580. It delivers the most power-efficient performance in its class. The balance of performance and efficiency optimizes AI multimedia, gaming, camera and video experiences.

Powered by a five gigapixel per second image signal processor (ISP), the Dimensity 8000 series produces the fastest, clearest HDR photos and video in its class.

“MediaTek’s big bet on 5G dramatically expanded its global smartphone SoC volumes in the mid-tier, and the Dimensity 9000 is opening up the flagship market,” said Avi Greengart, President of market advisory firm Techsponential. “With the Dimensity 8000, MediaTek is giving smartphone vendors more options to balance performance and pricing while still offering flagship level gaming and AI capabilities.”

The features of the Dimensity 8000 series chips also include:

  • Support for up to 200MP cameras and 4K60 HDR10+ videography.
  • MediaTek’s latest noise reduction and AI-based unblur techniques in extreme low-light environments for crisp shots with enhanced details.
  • Simultaneous dual camera HDR video recording. Users can record with the front and rear cameras or two different rear lenses – for example, wide + tele – at the same time.
  • Leading 3GPP R16-ready 5G modem to boost sub-6GHz performance using 2CC Carrier Aggregation.
  • MediaTek’s 5G UltraSave 2.0 power-saving enhancement suite for improved efficiency.
  • Support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 for seamless coexistence of Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth peripherals.

MediaTek also added the 6nm Dimensity 1300 to its 5G family. The Dimensity 1300’s HDR-ISP supports up to 200MP, and integrates MediaTek’s HyperEngine 5.0 to offer an optimal balance between performance and power for better efficiency in gaming and daily use scenarios. It comes with new AI enhancements, improving night shot photography and HDR capabilities for great image clarity.

The Dimensity 1300 integrates an octa-core CPU with an ultra-core Arm Cortex-A78 clocked up to 3GHz, three Arm Cortex-A78 super cores and four Arm Cortex-A55 efficiency cores, along with an Arm Mali-G77 GPU and MediaTek APU 3.0 to support the latest AI capabilities.

Smartphones powered by the Dimensity 8100, Dimensity 8000 and Dimensity 1300 will be available in the market in the first quarter of 2022, powering a new era of incredible 5G devices by some of the world’s biggest smartphone brands.

Infinix Zero 5G Review: A performance heavy mid-ranger with stunning looks

0

Since the launch of 5G coming, brands have been battling aggressively to win over one another. You will find many new features and the quickest response with these next-gen devices. Joining the battle, Infinix also launched its contender in the market with its latest Infinix Zero 5G model. The device is the first 5G-enabled device coming straight from the brand. It has some  amazing features.

Infinix Zero 5G is a perfect mid-range smartphone, especially for the gaming lovers out there. It has the perfect blend of responsiveness and style featuring heavy performance at its best! I have the device for more than two weeks now and I have my thoughts ready about it. Let’s dive right into it together!

What’s Inside the box?

Infinix Zero 5G

The device comes packed secured in an elongated box. Inside the big box, you get the phone with glossy and silky looks on top. Going in further you will find the 33W fast charger with a USB cable. It also contains a transparent back cover screaming 5G on the back. It makes it look more flashy and cool. You also get the sim ejector that is now have become the essence of any device! Anyways, I really liked how straight forwardly it was packed. It actually made an impression with the box itself!

Color variants

The Infinix Zero 5G comes in two colour variants- Cosmic Black and the other one in Skylight Orange. The Black one is nothing but your regular classic colour with gloss surrounding it overall. The glossy finish makes it quite a fingerprint magnet though nothing beats the premium black. The other variant is in funky Orange, which is not something you would see in mid-range smartphones generally. A mid-ranger giving such cool vibes is something I really appreciate about it! Anyways, coming back to the design, the skylight orange comes with a leathered textured back, which is actually a vegan leather finish. Thus, with this textured pattern, the orange one gives a better grip than the black.

I have had the Black variant with me for over 2 weeks now. While I wasn’t a fan of how much of a smudge magnet it was, I still loved the minimalist style and, of course, the color!

Design

The Infinix 5G is a stunning mid-range device bringing amazing design into the picture. The back of the phone has curvy ends with a super glossy finish. It also slopes upwards to meet the camera effortlessly. I have to say the design does deserve a full rating with such an intriguing pattern. The uni-curve design makes it quite a rare pattern after the Oppo Find X3.

Infinix Zero 5G

Now, an interesting fact I discovered about the phone! The shiny finish might look like glass to you, but it’s actually made of plastic. This is how much the premium vibes this device gives.

Furthermore, it has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner/lock button that works super smooth and is clicky enough. It has some instant quick response whenever you wake up or unlock the phone. Also, the volume rocker is right above the power lock in perfect alignment, which I really like! It is the perfect location where your thumb usually goes. It features the traditional headphone jack paired with a single bottom firing speakers.

Coming to the full body of the device, it has a massive size, yet it’s miraculously sleek and slim. It feels quite nice to hold the phone in one hand, though you might want to reach out for another one as well. So, if you’re not a fan of big phones you might not enjoy it that much. However, for me, this super sleek design paired with minimal and subtle looks seems promising.

Display

Infinix Zero 5G

The Infinix Zero 5G comes with a massive screen size of 6.78 inches. It features an FHD+LTPS screen paired with a 120Hz refresh rate. It doesn’t feature the best screen quality, though, but is quite a performer. The LTPS display works great for improved resolutions and offers sharp image quality. Well, this is definitely something that helped me forget the contrast game with the AMOLED display. Also, the viewing angles work decent on this, and I have not discovered any darkening even at 90 degrees. The only bummer to me was the low brightness of the screen which was visible in the sunlight. Although, it offers 500 nits peak brightness which is much more than expected with a Mid-range smartphone.
Additionally, the screen is very responsive too. With 240 Hz touch sampling, you will experience it more while playing games!

Performance

Performance-wise, the Infinix Zero 5G is a strong contender. It features a MediaTek Dimensity 900 processor built on a six-nanometer process. Now you know why I used the term Strong contender! It offers both concrete and mid-range performance, outclassing the Helio G series. Also, with the 5G connectivity and support, running heavy games on Zero 5G is darn smooth and with minimal thermal throttling.

Infinix Zero 5G
I’ve spent a good amount of time playing PUBG, COD (Call of Duty) and other highly demanded games. I used HDR ultra mode with a 60 FPS sustained period consistently. I have also tried Genshin Impact on Zero 5G, which is known to be the supremely high graphic game today. I neither faced any frame drops nor do I encounter any heating problems.
The visuals are extremely great while playing on Infinix Zero 5G, while the only thing it lacked was the flat audio experience. The sound was quite a bummer for me which is later amazingly covered by the party feature- Game Mode! It optimized my gaming experience to another level, with access to Social Turbo where I could read my messages, use apps like voice changer, sticker maker and so on.
Another interesting feature about the phone is that even though it offers 8GB RAM, which is sufficient for all the gaming lovers like me, it is further expandable to 5GB through virtual RAM. What? Yes, this is how I reacted when I saw the same! So, when Infinix claims that they do think beyond the infinite, they do!

Camera

Infinix Zero 5G

Coming to the camera specs for this stunner, Infinix Zero 5G features a triple camera array on the back. It has a primary shooter of 48MP followed by a 13MP portrait camera (with 2x optical zoom) and a 2MP depth sensor. Surprisingly, it also offers the bokeh mode, which is not so common in mid-range smartphones. Wow!
The 2x optical zoom has made the portrait shooter very sharp with consistent colour renditions. The primary camera on this one works fine and get the job done in perfect lighting.

Infinix Zero 5G

The camera is a star in the nighttime! Surprisingly, photos in low light were way too better, with the night-mode kicking in automatically in the dark. Also, it improves the dynamic range of the lens giving you the right sharpness. To improve things further in low light, you can also switch to the Super Night Mode. It helps in recovering shadows and highlights as well. Overall, I really enjoyed the pictures in the night. They were full of life!

On the front, it has a 16MP selfie camera. Overall, the selfie shooter is quite solid while taking pictures with on-point colours and details. The selfie shooter also works well at night, thanks to the dual led flash! Furthermore, it supports 4k 30FPS video recording, which is great considering this is a mid-range smartphone. Overall, the camera quality is decent and justified given this is a mid-range smartphone.

Battery

This sleek device packs a massive 5000mAh battery under the hood. The battery life is also quite long on Infinix Zero 5G. Even though I’ve used the phone moderately heavy, including playing games, watching videos, long voice calls, and video calls it easily lasted me 1.5 days on a single charge. So, even if you drain out, your phone life doesn’t! It comes with a 33W fast charging taking the smartphone 0 to 100% within 90-100 minutes.

Other features

Infinix Zero 5G comes with lots of customization options with some pre-installed apps for you! Also, one interesting feature I really liked is that how the notification toggle is divided into a separate notification center and on the other side a control center. The Home Screen also offers various customization options as well. You can choose different colors for your screen, set your own font, and animations as well. You can also arrange your applications into large folders and keep them on the home screen, on the front.

Final Take

Infinix Zero 5G

Infinix Zero 5G is an excellent deal with a strong performance, powerful specs, and a lost-lasting battery life. While the camera is not the best part, the responsiveness is quite fast and win the heart in a blink! The sleek design only adds the cherry to the cake. Therefore, if you’re a heavy gamer and prefer bingeing on your favourite series, this is undoubtedly the one for you!
