After regaining a top spot as the best-selling smartphone brand in the first quarter of 2022 with a market share of about 24%, South Korea based tech giant has Samsung has regained its highest global smartphone market share in the last five years.

Thanks to the Galaxy S22 series and the affordable budget and mid-range smartphones, Samsung managed to gain the position in the smartphone market for the first time after 2017. However, the market share is slightly less than as compared to 2017. According to a report from Counterpoint Research, Samsung had a market share of 25% back in 2017.

While Samsung led the market, Apple 15 and Xiaomi bagged second and third positions with 15% and 12% market share in Q1 2022, respectively.

This development has come just a day after Samsung reportedly decided to slash its smartphone production by 30 million units this year. According to the report, Samsung was supposed to produce 310 million units of smartphones in 2022 but it has now decided to cut that back to 280 million units.

Global fall in smartphone demand and component shortage due to Ukraine crisis are seen as possible reasons for reported production cut by Samsung.

In addition to Samsung, other brands including Apple has also reportedly decided to cut down the production in response to the current situation.

Apple is believed to have cut its smartphone production for 2022 as well. If report is to be believed then Apple is slashing the production of the iPhone SE by 20%.

Earlier, Samsung reportedly decided to exit the feature phones market by the end of 2022. According to a recent ET story, Dixon will build Samsung’s final batch of feature phones in December 2022.

Not only smartphone, Samsung India also lead the Tablet Business in the first quarter of 2022. According to the IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly PC Devices TrackerQ1 22, Samsung emerged as the market leader both in volume as well as value terms.

Samsung has claimed to be the leader in the tablet business in India in the first quarter. According to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly PC Devices TrackerQ1 22, Samsung led the tablet market in India, both in volume as well as value terms, during Q1, 2022.

Samsung had stated that they have a 40% volume market share in the Indian tablets market for Q1 (2022), which is considered a strong growth of 10% against the last quarter (Q4, 2021).

Beyerdynamic MMX 100 and MMX 150

German audio brand Beyerdynamic has come up with two new gaming headsets in its popular MMX series. The new additions – MMX 100 and MMX 150 – are specifically meant for gamers, who are looking for innovative features and want the plug-and-play comfort of a headset, besides excellent audio.

With the combination of excellent wearing comfort, dedicated sound for gamers and the new Meta Voice microphone, Beyerdynamic offers the right product – the Meta Pick, so to speak – for every gamer.

The Meta Pick allows gamers to play strategically and thus always find the best champion. For premium studio-quality sound, Beyerdynamic’s driver systems are the best Meta Pick for your ears due to decades of audio experience and passion for gaming.

MMX 100 and MMX 150 – A new era of gaming headsets

The MMX 100 is an analog gaming headset with unparalleled sound, perfect for gamers who prefer to play on the console and connect the headset directly to the controller. It is compatible with all platforms that have an analog output with 4-pole and a 2×3-pole 3.5 mm jack plug. The MMX 150 is a digital USB gaming headset with integrated sound card and tuned features for passionate gamers.

The built-in 40 mm driver systems are specifically optimized for gaming by Beyerdynamic’s acoustic engineers and provide a high-resolution sound image. The result is a clear and precise sound that is audible in all genres: In FPS games, the precise sound localization convincingly gives a clear advantage in a wide variety of situations, and RPGs feel even more realistic due to the distinct sound image.

Both headsets feature the new Meta Voice cardioid condenser microphone. The high demands in gaming require a natural voice transmission with as little surrounding noise in the background as possible. The 9.9 mm capsule reproduces the voice image naturally and realistic, while typical noise such as mouse and keyboard clicks is suppressed.

The controls are located directly on both headsets. The convenient control wheel and intuitive controls allow you to run the volume quickly and precisely without leaving the game. Additionally, the microphone can be muted directly via the separate mute button. The MMX 150 also features a Light Guide System on the control wheel to make features such as Augmented Mode and Mute visually apparent.

Augmented Mode – Direct access to the outside world

Gaming is the window to another world, where one adventure after another awaits. But even in the most exciting moments, we sometimes need to devote our attention to the outside world. So, to maintain the balance between the digital and the real world, the MMX 150 is equipped with the new Augmented Mode.

In Augmented Mode, the surrounding sounds are detected and mixed into the playback signal in real time. This allows interaction with the outside world without having to interrupt the game, and awareness of one’s own voice and volume is always guaranteed.

Sophisticated design delivers hours of wearing comfort

The MMX 100 and MMX 150 combine classic Beyerdynamic aesthetics with functionality for the ultimate gaming experience. The high-quality aluminum headband is the binding piece of the long-lasting headset. To prevent pressure points on the head, the headband is equipped with a synthetic leather band with memory foam. The memory foam-filled synthetic leather ear pads also guarantee long hours of wearing comfort and are even faster and easier to replace, thanks to the bayonet mechanism.

Availability and Pricing

The MMX 100 is available for Rs 11,999 and the MMX 150 for Rs 14,999. Both the models are available with two colour variants, Black and Grey at the online store at beyerdynamicindia.com, headphonezone.in and amazon.in.

5G to transform healthcare in rural India

0
5G in healthcare

The outbreak of the Covid-19 led to an unprecedented digital transformation of healthcare ecosystem in India. The adoption of advanced technology and innovations had been low in India before the Covid. Realizing the importance of technology in healthcare, the Union Cabinet recently approved the national roll-out of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, with a budget of Rs1,600 crore for five years.

Government has been increasingly focusing on eHealth/Digital Health to improve the Indian public healthcare delivery by progressively using Information & Communication Technology under the overall objective of Digital India.

Digital health has a huge potential of improving the healthcare delivery system and capable of changing the landscape of healthcare industry across the globe.

In view of the upcoming 5G technology in India, medical professionals are hopeful that this will fuel the growth of the digital transformation of healthcare ecosystem. They are of the view that this will lead to a more inclusive and accessible healthcare system.

“Yes, it can be game changer. Patients from remote area need to travel long distance to consult their doctors. With the advent of 5G, they can easily connect, share test reports, imaging etc. with their doctor and get advices without bothering about the travel and related expenses,” says Dr Ravi Kumar Singh, consultant nephrologist and renal transplant physician, Jaypee Hospital, Noida.

5G in healthcare

According to Dr Singh, the adoption of new technology will amplify and enable proactive and faster treatment. “With the advent of new technology, patients will have the opportunity to get a second opinion from international experts as well,” he adds.

Expansion of telemedicine

By providing 5G technologies to the remote parts of the country, says Deepak Sharma, CEO MedLern, we can bring much-needed telemedicine to these areas.

“This is not to say that providing connectivity to rural areas is not challenging for the government and telecom industry, but this is a venture worth exploring simply because it can mean the difference between life and death for all the people residing in the rural  areas,” says Sharma while highlighting the challenges of 5G’s implementation in the sector.

Preparedness of India

Dr Singh who has been in the medical profession for close to eight years emphasises on the importance of having electronic health record (EHR) system in place. “It is a must to strengthen the basic infrastructure and hospital staff before implementing 5G in the healthcare system,” adds Dr Singh.

The 5G technology promises to augment speeds and decrease latency for consumers and thus has the potential to transform how healthcare is delivered in India.

“In India, 5G will be most useful in driving almost real-time, good-quality video transmission which is required for remote tele-consultations. In this fashion, doctors can have direct access to patient’s high-quality imaging for medical review without any lag time and telemedicine will improve and quicken access to quality healthcare without having to visit clinics and hospitals, and help people in remote places as well,” adds Sharma.

Will 5G be a boon for healthcare system

Known for abysmal doctor-patient ratio, Indian healthcare system has an acute shortage of medical staff—doctors, nurses, paramedics, and technicians. The crisis of the medical staff crippled India’s response to Covid 19.

According to the experts, the 5G enabled healthcare system may be able to ensure good-quality healthcare to those who have been deprived of this due to various reasons. “By leveraging Internet of Things devices, healthcare workers can remotely monitor patients and provide consultations and medications and make other informed decisions. For a staff-starved country, especially in the remote reaches, this is indeed a heaven-sent boon,” explains Sharma.

Citing the example of the US, Sharma says that two-thirds of US healthcare providers either have or are in the process of developing tele-medicine programmes. According to him the market is predicted to grow at a CAGR of 16.5% from 2017 to 2023, solely on the back of soaring demand for rural healthcare. India too can incorporate the upcoming 5G in tele-healthcare facilities, especially those targeting remote, rural reaches of the country.

In addition to augmenting the healthcare system, Dr Singh believes that the 5G in healthcare will also open new horizons of employment in rural areas. “They can set up tele-clinics, path labs and provide employment to many skilled and unskilled people at local level after providing basic training,” says Dr Ravi.

Hindrance in implementation

Highlighting the challenges of adopting 5G in healthcare, MedLern CEO says that radio network equipment needs to be deployed in all existing hospital structures. “This means that necessary alterations have to be carried out on to the existing hospital facility, an expensive proposition, while ensuring that medical equipment is shielded. Alternatively, these equipment may need to be upgraded to their 5G-enabled versions, again another additional cost. There is also the matter of training healthcare to be able to operate these new procedures,” explains Sharma.

There is also the challenge of being able to connect remote clinics to specialists—a huge coverage challenge. While the public 5G network is being designed to provide extensive mobile coverage, providing the specific depth of coverage required for tele-medical consultations in rural corners of the country is another expensive proposition that needs government support. So most of the challenges are regarding cost management and network feasibility.

Will 5G arm doctors with actionable insights

As a proof of concept regarding how 5G can enable doctors to tele-consulate, communications solutions provider Airtel is already partnering with Cisco and Apollo Hospitals to operate a custom-designed 5G-connected ambulance service. Sharma informs that the ambulance will be equipped with the latest medical equipment that boosts healthcare access and life-saving in emergency situations and AR/VR technologies in the critical golden hour of the patient.

When a critical patient is being taken to the hospital, this ambulance will function as an extended emergency room by always being connected to the hospital and doctors virtually.

For this WWDC the first announcement might be Apple’s upcoming mobile operating system, iOS 16. As per a fresh report by Gurman, the new software has been named Sydney. Also, it is one of the most significant upgrades, chocking a number of changes across the operating system, as per the report. Here are a few of the upgrades you can expect from the upcoming iOS 16:

Enhanced lock screen functionality

This is one of the major parts where Apple plans to market the upcoming update. Generally, we unlock our iPhone to check the incoming notifications rather than swiping right and choosing an option from the widgets. Adding to this, the flashlight or the auto-rotate might be the only widely-used features from the lock screen.

Apple soon to unveil iOS 16: What's New?

This is now going to change with the iOS 16 and the upcoming iPhone 14. Apple has planned major improvements by enhancing the lock screen features, including wallpapers that have widget-like capabilities. With that Apple is also bringing the always-on lock screen for the rumoured iPhone 14 series. Interestingly, this is one feature that Apple planned for its last iPhone 13 series, but then got delayed until a year later. Now, how the always-on display works?  This allows the iPhone to turn down the frame rate significantly on the lock screen and display quickly glanceable information—similar to newer Apple Watches.

As per Gurman’s report, this new display might be seen on the higher devices of the series, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, codenamed D73 and D74.

What’s new in messaging

It’s been a long since Apple has brought any major changes to the messaging app. However, the iOS 16 will feature some great changes for messaging. Apple might come up with a ‘community platform’ for the messaging. Users may expect more social network-like functionalities, especially for the audio messages.

tvOS new updates

With the new operating system update, iOS 16, The Apple TV operating system, tvOS, will get more smart-home tie-ins. While, on the hand, the Mac will get some redesigned apps and a much-needed overhaul to System Preferences to make them more in line with Settings on iOS. That includes organizing settings by the app.

Improved multi-tasking

iOS 16 is expected to bring amazing multi-tasking and windowing upgrades this time. Gurman says in his report, “While I don’t expect an iOS 7-scale redesign in iOS 16 and iPadOS 16, I’m expecting major changes to windowing and multitasking, particularly on the iPad”. This was also confirmed by a result from Steve Troughton-Smith, which suggests that Apple is including greater windowing functionality into its online browser framework.

Health is important

While the Health app is unlikely to be ported to the iPad and Mac, it will receive a slew of new capabilities for the iPhone and Apple Watch. Apple is also planning big changes to watchOS, which will affect day-to-day operations and navigation. Changes to watch faces will be made, as well as the addition of a low-power mode.
