What Were the Biggest Streaming Flops of 2022?

0
Biggest Flops of 2022

2022 was a year of major streaming releases across platforms be it Netflix, Display Plus, or Prime Videos. Content poured in with some hits and many, many flops. The percentage of content that gets released on these streaming platforms versus the percentage of content that actually gets some noticeable viewers is not very pleasing.

Some streaming releases couldn’t even generate the right buzz for anyone to care about their release, which shouldn’t be surprising considering the high volume of content that gets added to streaming libraries every month.

Then there are OTT releases such as the Gray Man, Blonde, The Bubble and more that had the perfect buzz but failed to leave any impact upon release. In this article, we are looking at some of the biggest streaming flops of 2022. So, let’s get started.

What Were The Biggest Flops of 2022?

Blonde

Blonde

The second adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’s 2000 biographical fiction novel of the same name, Blonde is basically another mean attempt to sensationalise and exploit the life of iconic American actress Marilyn Monroe.

With Ana de Armas essaying the role of Hollywood’s top-billed actress in the 1950s and 60s, Blonde had caught the attention of cinephiles right from the announcement. Though the film soon faded away after generating a week-long chatter on online communities without leaving any substantial pop culture footprint.

Biggest Flops of 2022

The Gray Man

Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana De Armas – a star cast that should have ended all. On top of that, you had the Russo Brothers with an interesting spy thriller premise. Fans were expecting a high-octane popcorn entertainer but had to settle with a bland trying-hard-to-be-an-actioner instead.

The Gray Man received mixed to negative reviews upon release, though it also managed to gather some support amongst cinephiles on Twitter and Reddit.

The Bubble

The Bubble

It is still too early for Covid jokes but of course, Judd Apatow and crew at Netflix didn’t get that memo and decided to tell this story of pandemic lockdown days that no one asked for. The Bubble, quite aptly named, turned out to be just a bubble that burst right on arrival.

The plot of this Netflix original revolved around the film shoot of a blockbuster franchise while quarantining in a hotel, primarily using greenscreens. What was supposed to be a situational comedy seemed rather unfunny and insensitive for the time. A 21% Tomatometer reading on Rotton Tomatoes tells the rest of the story.

Biggest Flops of 2022

Pinocchio

Filmmakers have to stop remaking classics without any solid purpose in mind. These rehashed half-baked version of stories we all already are in love with isn’t working for anyone, especially not for them. Pinocchio, not the Pinocchio film on Netflix from Guillermo del Toro, but the one that has the legendary Tom Hanks as Geppetto arrived almost dead on Disney Plus this year.

The “live-action” film had nothing working in its favour and was immediately panned by both critics and audiences likewise. The Robert Zemeckis directorial received 27% on the Tomatometer and 29% Audience Score on Rotton Tomatoes.

Biggest Flops of 2022

Deep Water

With the kind of popularity Ana De Armas enjoys online, it’s hard to believe that she makes an appearance on this list of 2022 streaming duds three times. In Deep Water, Armas is sharing screen space with Ben Affleck in an erotic thriller directed by Adrian Lyne, the well-known erotic thriller master.

The film tries hard to be dark and exciting failing miserably to be both. Deep Water has to settle with 36% on Tomatometer and 24% on the Audience Score in Rotton Tomatoes’ ratings.

Samsung Galaxy A23 5G Review – Wide-Lens Camera with Infinite Display and Virtually Lag-Free 5G Connectivity

0
Samsung Galaxy A23 5G

Samsung launched Galaxy A23 5G for the entry-level smartphone market segment without making compromises on the quality and spec sheet of the device. Galaxy A23 is packed with a wide display, quad camera setup, an impressive 4GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chipset, and a 5000mAh battery with 25W fast charging support among other features.

Moreover, Samsung has been advertising the device as a lag-free 5G smartphone, which users shouldn’t confuse with lag-free performance as turns out the marketing campaign is only talking about the seamless 5G connectivity. Samsung Galaxy A23 5G price in India currently is Rs 21,999 for the 5G variant, which means to say that the same smartphone is also available in a 4G variant.

So, is Samsung Galaxy A23 5G worth spending Rs 21,999 on? Is this the smartphone you should be considering as your next smartphone upgrade? Let’s find out in our in-depth Samsung Galaxy A23 5G review.

A Quick Samsung Galaxy A23 Unboxing Check

Samsung Galaxy A23 5G comes bundled in a regular retail packaging box and besides the smartphone, the box is pretty much empty, to say the least. All you really get inside the retail box is a SIM ejector pin so that you can at least stick your SIM card in the device, a quick start guide and a USB C cable.

That’s basically it. This, however, should not be massively shocking for anyone that the brand decided to not include a power adapter or even a plastic protective case at this point but it is still a little disappointing.

Samsung Galaxy A23 5G Design and Build

The Galaxy A23 5G with its massive 6.6-inches size is thankfully isn’t too heavy. It weighs 197 grams and does support a one-handed mode. The skinniest bezels surrounding the humongous display don’t look any bad or good.

Flip it around and you get the back panel of the Galaxy A23 5G. It is a simple matte plastic finish somewhat similar to all A series Galaxy smartphones and plastic is standard for smartphones at this price point. Thanks to that matte finish, the back panel doesn’t seem to attract fingerprints or scuffs too easily.

Samsung provides a respectable choice of colour options as well with the trademark enthusiastic variant monikers such as Awesome Black, Awesome White, Awesome Blue and Orange.

Galaxy A23 – 6.60-inch PLS LCD Display and 50 MP Primary Camera

Samsung doesn’t usually disappoint when it comes to smartphone displays and the A23 also serves with its 6.6-inch LCD display. The display is supported with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1080×2408 pixel picture resolution, a 20.07:9 aspect ratio and 400ppi among other features.

Overall, Galaxy A23 does serve the purpose of providing a decent display that can be your streaming partner. The images and colours are quite sharp even in this massive size display/

As for the camera setup, straight from the spec sheet, it doesn’t highlight anything extraordinary and doesn’t disappoint either. What we get in a Galaxy A23 is a 50-megapixel primary camera sensor with optical image stabilization built-in.

Now the 50-megapixel primary camera sensor works all right as long as the lighting is proper but in strong contrast and in more ambient lighting, the camera setup shows the lethargic side in getting decent enough shots.

Galaxy A23 Performance – one UI Software, Snapdragon 695 Processor and 64GB/4GB Storage

Analysing the performance of Galaxy A23 5G, let’s start with the software. The software you get is Android 12 and Android 13 should be coming soon. You also get Samsung’s One UI. Samsung has done a decent job when it comes to software updates and it is reassuring the with A23 that it is offering at least three years of os and security updates.

The security patching is bang up to date on Galaxy A23 and anyone who’s used a Samsung one UI smartphone in the past will not have any issues in adjusting to this one.

All of Samsung’s usual apps have been added on top where you get a smart app for connecting to all your smart home gadgetry, a Samsung peer for your contactless payment, and Samsung Health in case you want to do jogging or work out. You also have a few apps such as Facebook and LinkedIn pre-installed.

As for storage, the Galaxy A23 5G comes with 64 GB of space and 4GB of RAM. The storage, however, shouldn’t be a problem because Samsung is providing MicroSD memory card support so that you can easily expand the storage up to a full terabyte.

The Galaxy A23 has an added bonus the microSD memory card slot that is actually separate from the Dual SIM slots. So, you can have a memory card and two SIM supported in there simultaneously.

Now, let’s move to the processor and we do see a problem here. Running the show on the Galaxy A23 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chipset which is one of the most powerful chipsets you can get in the market today. But the issue here is that Samsung has backed Snapdragon 695 with just 4GB of RAM.

This combination of specs can certainly have a detrimental impact on the performance of the smartphone as we did notice lagging behaviour from A23 as some apps were taking a little longer to load or sometimes the display isn’t as smooth or responsive as you would want to have a decent smartphone experience.

However, if you are looking for a smartphone for regular everyday usage and don’t expect too much, Galaxy A23’s RAM and chipset combination shouldn’t both you.

Moto G72 First Design and Build

Moto G72 Review

The Motorola design department based on what we have seen in all its recent devices has been trying its best to put forth a compelling show. Moto G72 following similar design patterns is a lightweight ergonomic and quite a stylish smartphone.

Also Read: Moto G53 & G73 5G Launch Confirmed in India

What’s refreshing in design here is the squarish camera module and the frosted matte finish back panel. The combination of all these features put together does make the device a little bit premium. As we mentioned before, the phone is quite ergonomic with just 7.9 mm of thickness and weighing at just 166 grams.

There’s also the PPMA curved back panel which merges into the polycarbonate frame giving it a good in-hand feel. The design is IP52 certified to protect against water splashes and also has a Gorilla Glass 3 display protection. In terms of connectivity, at the bottom, it has a 3.5 headphone jack a mic a type-c port, a speaker slot, and a hybrid SIM card tray.

In terms of usability and overall design, even though it is quite ergonomic, the edges are a little bit sharp for some people’s taste. A little bit more refinement could have made a whole lot of difference in the overall smartphone design.

The same is with the haptic feedback also as Moto G72 is decent for calls and notifications even on vibrate mode but for the typing enthusiasts, the phone could use some more refinement in the vibration motor.

Moto G72 Display and Sound

The Moto G72 comes with a 6.6-inch full high definition Plus 120 hertz 10 bit HDR 10 plus P OLED panel display with 1300 nits of peak brightness and a 576 Hertz touch sampling rate. This appears to be the first in this segment and the display looks amazing. It’s sharp and crisp as any type of streaming content looks great on it.

Netflix does support wide one L1 and YouTube content plays back at 1440p with 60 FPS. You also have the stereo speakers in Moto G72 with Dolby Atmos. These are very well-tuned and definitely give an immersive multimedia experience.

Moto G72 Performance

The  Helio G99 processor coupled with UMCP storage is a decent combination to start with.  The G99 is a capable processor for day-to-day usage as the smartphone can handle multiple apps while running the display at 120hz without any issues or lags. However, what needs to be mentioned is that this is not a gaming chipset with most games running at the lowest setting only.

Moto G72 Review

The performance, however, is consistent and MediaTek deserves appreciation for that. Also aiding the performance is Motorola’s software department. You get basically stock Android 12 here with no ads or bloatware.

There’s also Shield Security and the Android 13 update that should be coming soon. In addition to that, there are also three years of security patches as promised. As far as the software experience goes, it’s smooth and loaded with essential features. Moreover, motor actions are always welcome.

Moto G72 Camera

Let’s move on to the camera. Reading directly from the specification sheet, the Moto G72 comes with a 108 MP primary sensor coupled with an 8 MP ultra-wide sensor and a 2 MP macro sensor. There’s also a 16 MP selfie shoot up front and daylight performance. The shots are well-detailed with no noticeable over processing.

We do, however, feel that the HDR could have been a bit better when it comes to handling the highlights but the decent amount of details with good colour accuracy should satisfy most smartphone users out there.

The portrait shots appear a little softer when put in comparison to the non-portraits and unfortunately, there is no option to turn off the skin-softening here in portrait mode. As for low light photography, the night vision mode in this smartphone is excellent as there’s no major noise scene in low light images and also the shutter speed is quite fast while capturing shots.

Switching over to selfies and images, they are sharp, detailed and more importantly, the HDR works well too.

Top 5 Best Smartphones for 2022

Top 5 Best Smartphones for 2022
Top 5 Best Smartphones for 2022

2022 will be over in 48 hours and it has been an excellent year for the tech industry as many smartphone brands have come out with outstanding devices this year like Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, Google Pixel 7 Pro, Xiaomi 12S Ultra, Huawei Mate 50 Pro, and Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max, among others.

The aforementioned devices are some of the best models from the tech giants, all of whom have acquired a reliable reputation as users don’t think twice before going for their products soon after they’re launched.

Highlights

  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra comes with a 6.8-inch AMOLED display screen and bezel-less punch-hole type front screen.
  • Google Pixel 7 Pro, launched in October 2022, comes with a triple rear camera setup and Always-on display sensor.
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max has a 48MP camera with Bayer-pixel binning that has become a favourite of many users.

Best Smartphones List

It is difficult to make up a list of the best smartphones of 2022 as each one will have their own preference based on the device they own but one can still subjectively post a top 5 or 10 list so that users not familiar with them can know which one to go for.

  • Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

The device was launched on February 25, 2022 as a substitute for the now discontinued Galaxy Note series, which was thought to be a wrong move by many tech experts as they felt that users will not be able to relate to the new model.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Many people were initially unhappy that the Galaxy Note series was discontinued as they felt awkward having a Samsung Galaxy S phone with an S Pen and the sharp edges, along with the distinct note design did not go down well with most users.

However, many of their fears were unfounded when they started using the phone and within a few days, most users started relating to the S Pen that brought in all the excellent features together.

The camera was an improvement when compared to the highly capable Galaxy S21 Ultra, while the user interface was something that was pleasantly shocking for many who used it.

While its sharp edges have received criticism, Galaxy S22 Ultra is quite tall and wide, which some might have found difficult to handle but since human beings have a knack for adapting to new things, the size issue hardly mattered within a few days after using the device thoroughly.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra for Rs.11; Details Inside

  • Google Pixel 7 Pro

Pixel 7 Pro was launched on October 6, 2022, around a month after the launch of Apple iPhone 14 series. Many people have praised its camera features as they admire the concept of Google for bringing bright colours that do not oversaturate the image as it becomes extremely garish to look at.

The night photos have a nice algorithm where you have all the details accurately given that aren’t overly processed, while the camera is not trying to work anything out through computational science but simply knows its job perfectly well.

The device comes with a 5x optical zoom, although its sensor is smaller in size when compared to the previous models, not to mention the optical image stabilization (OIS) and the elaborate telephone lens.

All in all, Google Pixel 7 Pro is perfect when it comes to camera features as people obsessed with taking pictures will find it right up their alley as they can relate to its features.

Google Pixel 7 Pro; Users Complain on Scrolling Issue

  • Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max

Without a doubt, this is one of the best smartphones to have launched in 2022 that will be in anybody’s top 5 or top 3 list. One of the main reasons for it is the phone’s large size due to which they can watch the content on large and bright screens.

iPhone 14 Pro Max

Those who’re fond of taking pictures can completely relate to the new 48MP camera with a quad-Bayer pixel binning, along with the new 12MP ultra-wide sensor with dual pixel phase-detection autofocus that are completely unique.

While users have issues with the HDR going overboard, the images are excellent still, which is a unique feature that only Apple smartphones possess as all the details and the smallest of imperfections are kept by them that makes the images even more beautiful.

This Is The First Game You Should Play on PS5

0
First Game

This is something that every seasoned gamer after getting their hand on a brand new PlayStation 5 realised sooner than later. One of the best and coolest games you can experience on your new PS5 isn’t even one of the main games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales or the exclusive Demon Souls.

The game that you actually need to experience first on a PS5 is none other than – Astro’s Playroom. Surprised? Let’s see why Astro’s Playroom –  the free pack-in game – is actually the first thing you should play when you get your hands on a PlayStation 5.

Demonstration of The Controller

First things first, the existence of Astro’s Playroom has a significant purpose as a product to demonstrate the features of the new expensive console that you just purchased. This little almost 3 hours free pack-in game is crafted as a fun platformer.

It is a basic jump-n-run platformer with levels and areas that sometimes resemble Super Mario Odyssey but it’s catered around to demonstrate the new features around the dual sense controller.

Astro’s Playroom is a good test ride for getting accustomed to what the controller can do from experiencing the built-in microphone to the adaptive triggers. The triggers provide resistance and fun little movements such as firing a gun with quick double clicks.

The vibration and the haptic feedback are also really impressive. The game is designed to display all of the creative and innovative ways you can use the new controller.

The PlayStation Notaglia

Another reason why Astro’s Playroom is the first game you should play on your PS5 is the nostalgia factor Sony has tried to pack in. It is a fun little game but it can also be extremely nostalgic for PS regulars.

The game leans on PlayStation fandom from PlayStation 1 now to PlayStation 5. This game celebrates it all in its own fun play-through of everything related to Sony gaming. As a PS consumer, you do not want to miss out on that highly nostalgic design of the game.

Astro’s Playroom will have you essentially working your way up while collecting PlayStation artefacts such as the multi-tap or the network adapter for PlayStation 2. The main levels of the game are structured around gamers getting to the end of a level where it is a generation of PlayStation memories stacked up together.

From the presentation to the actual flow of the gameplay, although is easier, will have you hooked as you discover something or the other you have seen in your previous PlayStations.

So, if you love PlayStation and especially if you’ve owned a previous PlayStation, do yourself a favour and play Astro’s Playroom the instant you turn your PlayStation 5 on.
