Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 With Improved Drop Resistance on Rough Surfaces Launched

0
Corning Gorilla Glass

Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, claimed to be an improved version of its predecessor, has been officially announced. This more powerful and durable next generation glass is said to have an even better drop resistance with the ability to protect devices from getting scratched on rougher surfaces such as concrete. Corning, one of the world’s leading specialists in glass, ceramics and related material technologies, announce the launch of the new Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 through an official press statement on its official website.

According to Corning, the new Victus 2 during the lab testing phase manage to survive some of the most extensive drop tests. The new improved version of Gorilla Glass is said to have survived a two metre drop on an asphalt like surface, apart from showing solid resistance against concrete material. Moreover, the glass was able to manage almost four times better scratch resistance as compared to other competitive aluminosilicate glasses.

The official brand statement also quoted the Vice President and General Manager of Gorilla Glass, David Velasquez emphasising the significance of smartphones in our digital lives and how their durability is crucial. Velasquez said, “Smartphones are the centre of our digital lives, and the requirement for exceptional scratch and drop resistance has only increased with our growing reliance on clear, damage-free displays. Surfaces matter and rough surfaces like concrete are everywhere.”

Explaining the process of extensive research behind its technical innovation, Velasquez further said, “We challenged our scientists not only to create a glass composition that was durable enough to better survive drops from waist height onto rougher surfaces than asphalt but to improve cover-glass performance for larger and heavier devices.”

Velasquez further noted in his statement that smartphones today are a lot heavier and more sophisticated than they were a few years ago. This he explains has put extra stress on the smartphone body and the need for the screen glass to have better technology has been constantly felt by the industry.

Corning Gorilla Glass

Velasquez said, “With more sophisticated and varied designs, today’s smartphones are nearly 15% heavier, and screen sizes are up to 10 per cent larger than they were four years ago – increasing both the stress on the cover glass and the probability of damage. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 redefines tough for consumers and OEMs.”

In the announcement statement, Corning also published some key findings of research conducted by its team. According to the research, almost 84 per cent of smartphone users across China, India and the US markets, all three constitute the major smartphone markets in the world, consider the durability of the smartphone as one of the major factors influencing purchase decisions. The brand also highlighted in the statement that Gorilla Glass has already been used by 45 major brands in their eight billion handsets.

Although the brand refrained from providing any official arrival date for Gorilla Glass Victus 2, the technology is currently going through evaluation phases. Multiple customers and stakeholders are evaluating the new improved version of Gorilla Glass that the brand sounded hopeful to have in the market in months’ time.

WhatsApp Starts Rolling Out New Feature; Photos to Retain Caption

WhatsApp
WhatsApp

Introduction

WhatsApp has come out with yet another feature where users can now retain captions on videos and images before they are forwarded, which is something that they had constantly complained about and has now been taken care of.

Highlights

  • WhatsApp has begun rolling out the new caption feature on iOS.
  • It allows you to retain the caption of a photo before forwarding it.
  • The feature is expected to be available on Android, as well.

WhatsApp Photos and Images to Retain Caption Prior to Forwarding

In order to stay relevant in public eye, a movie star, for example, has to keep upgrading his image and style of acting to cater to the changing tastes of the new generation otherwise he can quietly make way for the upcoming generation of actors.

Similarly, a mobile application has to keep coming up with new features to keep catering to the ever changing tastes of the public, which only few of the applications have managed to do.

WhatsApp is a messaging platform that is more than a decade old and has witnessed massive changes during that period, whilst receiving stiff competition from other messaging platforms like Signal and Telegram.

A big reason for that is because Meta continuously keeps bringing new features at regular intervals as the users are highly fickle in nature and switch loyalties instantly if their demands aren’t met.

WhatsApp

The platform has now come up with a new feature where users can retain the caption for images, videos, and GIF prior to forwarding them to other contacts, which is quite surprising that it wasn’t there on WhatsApp till now.

It is important to have captions for images and videos as it helps recipients understand the context as many of the pics are vague in nature, which is why, until now, users had to first send the image/video and then the caption separately.

As of now, this feature works only in iOS apps, which is quite surprising as the number of Android users is significantly higher than iPhone users and they too will think of needing a caption to convey the message.

Whenever someone in your contact list sends you a video or image, users can long tap it to forward it, where the menu pops up instantly on iOS either above or below the image with the ‘Forward’ option instantly visible, which you tap and choose the contact you want to send it to.

WhatsApp Feature Conclusion

You can also remove the caption by tapping the ‘X’ icon on the top right corner of your dialogue box. While iOS users can utilize this feature from now on, Android users need to wait for a few days before it is available to them.

Twitter has decided that it will no longer enforce its policy against the misinformation on Covid-19, which has raised concerns among social media researchers and health experts as they feel that it might discourage vaccination and all the efforts being taken to combat the ubiquitous virus.

There were quite a few accounts on Twitter that tested the new boundaries and rejoiced over the hands-on approach taken by the company, which was only after Elon Musk became its CEO.

Covid 19 misinformation

The misinformation policy was being used to muzzle people all across the globe that questioned the narrative put forward by the media regarding the virus and its vaccine.

Public health experts have expressed their disappointment on Twitter for not taking any action against the fake news regarding the safety of Covid-19 vaccines, who felt that it could only lead to further misunderstanding about the virus, its vaccines, and the safety measures being taken.

Elon Musk himself has spread misinformation regarding Covid-19 on Twitter but now is expressing his interest in rolling back all the previous rules that are there to combat fake news.

Moto X40

Moto X40 with the new and improved Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Soc will be launched in the Chinese market in December 2022, according to a trustworthy confirmation recently received. Since Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has been officially announced, no smartphone manufacturer wants to be left behind in the race to launch devices with this updated chip.

Many brands such as Vivo with its X90 Pro+, Xiaomi and iQOO with their soon to be unveiled smartphones are ready to hit the market with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SOC powered devices. And now it appears that Motorola too isn’t going to be too far behind in the race since the brand is all set to launch Moto X40 in the coming December. Let’s find out all we know about Moto X40 and its now confirmed launch.

The General Manager of Lenovo’s Mobile Division, Chen Jin shared a confirmation about the Moto X40 launch in December via a Weibo post. Jin confirmed that the smartphone will be released in China in December even though no exact launch date has been mentioned.

Jin wrote in his post, “The Moto X40 this time supports IP68 waterproofing. We would like to call it the SUV in the mobile phone. December, get ready to go!”

However, tech bloggers believe that users should expect the device launch to happen in the first half of the month so that it can get a decent window to expand its reach well before the holiday season. Jin also revealed that Moto X40 will have an IP68 rating and will thus be water and dust resistant.

Moto X40

Jin also revealed the AnTuTu benchmark scores of the chipset earlier this month and it was during that report that Jin confirmed Moto X40 will have Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Notably, the AnTuTu benchmark scores for Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in Jin’s report were 1312901, which was significantly better than the 1266101 scores of MediaTek Dimensity 9200.

Moto X40 had many leaks in the past as well with most revealing its key specification and other model related details. According to such leaks, the smartphone will sport “a 6.67-inch OLED panel with curved edges on all four sides. It will support an FHD+ resolution, 10-bit colours, and feature an under-display fingerprint scanner.”

Moto X40 will most likely come to the stores with up to 18 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 512 GB of internal storage. It is expected to run on MY UI 5.0-based Android 13 operating system.

Some tech bloggers have earlier confirmed Moto X40 would be packed with a powerful 5,000mAh battery supported by 68W fast charging.

Those who want to know any details about the camera support of the smartphone should note that X40 will likely have an impressive triple rear camera setup with a 50-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide unit, and a 12-megapixel telephoto sensor with 4x zoom support. Not only this, the selfie lovers or Instagram enthusiasts will be pleased to know that Moto X40 is expected to have a 60-megapixel selfie camera.

YouTube Removes 1.7 Million Videos for Violating Q3 2022 Norms

YouTube removed 1.7 million videos
YouTube

Introduction

YouTube is one of the oldest social media platforms with billions of users but given the norms of Q3 2022, it has removed nearly 1.7 million videos from its channel for violating said norms.

Also Read: Meta &YouTube to Expand Research Policies to Tackle Online Extremism

Highlights

  • YouTube on Tuesday said that it has removed over 1.7 million videos in India.
  • YouTube removed over 5.6 million videos globally for violating its community guidelines.
  • YouTube removed over 5 million channels in Q3 2022 for violating their Community Guidelines.

YouTube Deletes Nearly 1.7 million videos for Violating Guidelines

YouTube was one of the first social media platforms that came up along with Twitter and Facebook in the mid-2000s when the social media revolution to the entire world by storm.

These three platforms continue to prosper despite being in business for more than 17 years with all of them having billions of subscribers each and counting, which is a testimony to their long lasting legacy.

YouTube has strict user policy that each and every subscriber has to adhere to, along with the terms and conditions that you need to follow if you want to become YouTuber, while those who don’t adhere to its community guidelines have to pay the price.

The same happened some days back when the now Google-owned platform removed more than 1.7 million videos which had violated the norms and guidelines as per its Q3 (third quarter) report.

Aside from these, the streaming platform has also removed more than 5.6 million videos at a global level for the same violations. The Community Guidelines Report has confirmed that nearly 94% of said videos were flagged by machines rather than human beings.

YouTube removed 1.7 million videos

Apparently all the channels that had their videos deleted violated spam policies, which included serious offenses like misleading metadata or thumbnails, video, scams, and comments spams, etc. due to which YouTube had to delete more than 730 million comments in Q3 2022, as most of them were spam.

It seems that YouTube is in the process of cleaning up its site from unscrupulous elements that have been creating a nuisance for so long that is also seriously affecting its reputation, especially with people of older age groups.

Around 36% videos were removed before they got even a single view, while 31% of them had received between 1 to 10 views prior to their removal, and more than 67% of the violative videos on the streaming platform were deleted before their views reached even 10.

The comments were detected automatically before being removed from the site and comprised of more than 99% because YouTube has strict community guidelines that set the rules for what is allowed and, more importantly, what is not allowed on the platform.
