Highlights

  • WhatsApp has begun rolling out the new caption feature on iOS.
  • It allows you to retain the caption of a photo before forwarding it.
  • The feature is expected to be available on Android, as well.

WhatsApp Photos and Images to Retain Caption Prior to Forwarding

In order to stay relevant in public eye, a movie star, for example, has to keep upgrading his image and style of acting to cater to the changing tastes of the new generation otherwise he can quietly make way for the upcoming generation of actors.

Similarly, a mobile application has to keep coming up with new features to keep catering to the ever changing tastes of the public, which only few of the applications have managed to do.

WhatsApp is a messaging platform that is more than a decade old and has witnessed massive changes during that period, whilst receiving stiff competition from other messaging platforms like Signal and Telegram.

A big reason for that is because Meta continuously keeps bringing new features at regular intervals as the users are highly fickle in nature and switch loyalties instantly if their demands aren’t met.

WhatsApp

The platform has now come up with a new feature where users can retain the caption for images, videos, and GIF prior to forwarding them to other contacts, which is quite surprising that it wasn’t there on WhatsApp till now.

It is important to have captions for images and videos as it helps recipients understand the context as many of the pics are vague in nature, which is why, until now, users had to first send the image/video and then the caption separately.

As of now, this feature works only in iOS apps, which is quite surprising as the number of Android users is significantly higher than iPhone users and they too will think of needing a caption to convey the message.

Whenever someone in your contact list sends you a video or image, users can long tap it to forward it, where the menu pops up instantly on iOS either above or below the image with the ‘Forward’ option instantly visible, which you tap and choose the contact you want to send it to.

You can also remove the caption by tapping the ‘X’ icon on the top right corner of your dialogue box. While iOS users can utilize this feature from now on, Android users need to wait for a few days before it is available to them.
