iOS 17 features for iPhones, as per the latest leak

0
iOS 17

HIGHLIGHTS

* Tech giant Apple is expected to announce iOS 17 at WWDC 2023, as per tradition.
* iOS 17 is expected to prioritise enhancing performance and stability.
* In iOS 17, more features are expected to be included in Dynamic Island.

Ahead of the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023, where Apple is expected to unveil its Mixed Reality Headset, a new Mac Pro and the much-anticipated iOS 17, a new leak hints at some of the features of the upcoming iOS 17.

The WWDC event is scheduled to take place between June 5th to June 9th but ahead of that, a Twitter user has come up with a list of the alleged features of iOS 17.

It should be noted that the company has not yet officially revealed any of the features of the upcoming iOS, and while this particular user was on point with a couple of features related to Dynamic Island prior to its announcement in June last year, the new leak should still be taken with a pinch of salt.

A very vague iOS 17 Leak

iOS 17

The leak comes from the user “analyst941” on Twitter accurately shared certain details about the Dynamic Island ahead of last year’s iPhone 14 Pro launch. Still, they don’t have an established multi-year track record of accurate leaks. The vagueness of this rumor also makes us question it more than usual. With that said, we’d treat this rumor with a decent amount of skepticism for the time being.

In a thread on Twitter, the source outlined a rundown of “everything” they “know” about “what’s new in iOS 17.”

First and foremost, the source claims that iOS 17 will support all models of the iPhone that are supported by iOS 16. There are apparently still questions about iPadOS 17’s device compatibility, however, and the source says iPads powered by the A9 and A10 Fusion chips could be dropped this year. Apple will reportedly make a final decision about this sometime in the next two to three weeks.

iOS 17

“Performance, efficiency, stability, and long-term support for older devices are the main features of this update,” according to the leak. Among the “new features” in development are:

* Additional settings for the iPhone 14 Pro’s Always-On Display
* Additional filters for Focus modes
* “Changes and additional options” for managing notifications
* Custom Accessibility Mode
* Car Key “improvements” and “more car implementations into the Wallet app”
* UI changes to the Health app, including changes to the “Favorites” interface
* “Heavily improved” features for Search and Spotlight
* “An absolute behemoth of ARKit API’s/frameworks”
* “The Dynamic Island will do a lot more”
* “Camera app changes; these were initially planned for the iPhone 14 Pro release, and MAY only be implemented into iPhone 15’s OS, rather than all iOS 17 devices.”

Finally, and perhaps most notably, the leak suggests that Apple is testing “active widgets” that will “bring one-tap buttons, sliders, and more” to help make widgets more “dynamic.” This feature, however, is said to be “in testing, but not confirmed by any means.”

Unfortunately, that’s about all this leak offers up. It outlines some broad areas on which Apple is allegedly focusing with iOS 17, but it doesn’t offer many specific details. As we said earlier, treat it with a grain of salt. Apple will officially announce iOS 17 in less than two months at WWDC 2023.

iOS 17 features: What to Expect?

iOS 17

According to the source, iOS 17 will be compatible with all iPhone models that are currently supported by iOS 16. There are still uncertainties regarding the compatibility of devices with iPadOS 17. It is possible that iPads that are powered by A9 and A10 Fusion chips may not be supported this year.

The source claimed that there will be more Focus Mode filters in Settings along with notification changes and additional options in Settings. It is also mentioned that custom accessibility settings will provide complete control over the user interface and layout, particularly for older individuals or younger children.

Other changes include:

* CarKey improvements
* Health app UI changes
* Camera app changes
* Improved Search/Spotlight
* More features will be included in the Dynamic Island

iOS 17

As per a recent report, iOS 17 will prioritise enhancing performance and stability, suggesting that a revamped Control Center may be among the most prominent updates.

An earlier report indicated that the original plan for iOS 17 was to release a bug fix update.
However, later plans were changed and now it is expected that the update will bring new features, including an updated CarPlay experience, adjustments to Siri, the ability to sideload and access rival app stores, support for Apple’s mixed-reality headset, as well as other enhancements and new features.

Camera app changes could be limited to iPhone 15

iOS 17

Apple is preparing several changes and improvements to the Camera app as a part of iOS 17. However, the leaker says these changes might remain exclusive to the iPhone 15 series and may not make it to all iOS 17 compatible devices.

The source of this leak previously accurately revealed information about the iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island. So, the source has a relatively accurate track record, though it is always best to take such rumors with a pinch of salt.

Stay tuned for more updates about the upcoming iOS 17.

FAQ’s on iOS 17

1) iOS 17 to get a redesigned Control Center? Details

Ans) Control Center was first introduced with iOS 7, and it lets users quickly access Wi-Fi, cellular, and Bluetooth settings, as well as media controls and shortcuts to some native apps.

According to an anonymous leaker in the MacRumors Forums, the Control Center will be completely redesigned in iOS 17.

There are no details about what exactly will change with the new Control Center, but presumably, Apple will let users further customize it.

Currently, users can only rearrange some of the Control Center items and add more shortcuts from a preset list of options.

If true, this will be the first time Apple has redesigned Control Center since iOS 11 in 2017, when the company made it a full-screen menu in preparation for the iPhone X that year.
The report comes from the same leaker who shared precise details about the Dynamic Island of the iPhone 14 Pro weeks before the official announcement of the new iPhones.

At first, Bloomberg had reported that iOS 17 would be a minor update focused on improving the overall stability of the system. However, journalist Mark Gurman said last month that Apple changed its strategy and asked engineers to add features much requested by iPhone and iPad users.

Also according to rumors, Apple may drop support for iPhone 8, iPhone X, and the first-generation iPad Pro with iOS 17 and iPadOS 17.
Apple will officially announce iOS 17 at WWDC 2023, as well as other major OS versions, like watchOS 10, tvOS 17, and macOS 14.

We also expect that WWDC will be the event where Apple unveils the long-awaited headset project. WWDC 2023 will take place June 5-9, with a special opening event in Apple Park.

2) What does the control centre of the iPhone suggest ?

Ans) The menu provides iPhone users with convenient access to controls for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, display brightness, volume, and many other system functions. On the iPhone X and newer, Control Center can be opened by swiping down from the top-right corner of the screen.

Introduced with iOS 7, Control Center turns 10 this year. On a speculative basis, Apple  could make Control Center more customizable and revamp the menu’s design after six years of minimal changes, but exact changes if any remain to be seen.

While the forum member has a proven track record, this rumor has yet to be corroborated by other sources, and Apple’s plans are subject to change.

3) What’s happening on the Apple dropping iOS 17 on iPhone devices ?

Ans) iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 could ditch support for devices powered by Apple’s A10 chips that are affected by an unpatchable security vulnerability, including the iPhone X (2017).

4) Why care about Apple rumoured iOS 17 drop on iPhone devices ?

Ans) The decision will reduce attack vectors in iOS 17.

5) What to do with drop on iOS 17 drop on iPhone devices ?

Ans) If your iPhone or iPad isn’t on the iOS 17 device list, maybe hand it down to a family member and plan purchasing a newer model?

6) iPhone X absent from leaked iOS 17 system requirements?

Ans) iPhones and other Apple devices typically run the latest operating system versions without problems for at least five years before some features become unsupported. That’s a big part of the reason why Apple hardware has such a high resale value.
But with iOS 17, a maintenance update with only a handful of new features, the Cupertino technology giant is understood to remove support for certain older iPhones and iPads powered by the A10 chip for reasons dealing with security.

7) iOS 17 should mark the end of the road for Which devices:?

Ans) * iPhone X
* iPhone 8
* iPhone 8 Plus
* 9.7-inch iPad (1st generation)
* 12.9-inch iPad Pro (1st generation)
* iPad (5th generation)
The only exceptions being (will run ¡OS 17):
* iPad (6th generation)
* iPad (7th generation)
* 10.5-inch iPad Pro (2nd generation)
* 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2nd generation)

8) Which are the four devices that run Apple A10 Fushion or A10x Fushion chip ?

Ans) The four devices above run Apple’s A10 Fusion or A10X Fusion chip. iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 will drop support for the following devices iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X iPad (5th generation), 9.7-in. iPad Pro (1st generation), 12.9-in. iPad Pro (1st generation).

Truecaller finally adds live caller ID for iPhones, but there’s a catch: Only For Premium User: Learn how to access it

Truecaller

HIGHLIGHTS

* Truecaller has rolled out a new update to iOS that brings some major features.
* The new update is available for users in India, South Africa and Nigeria.
* It brings live caller ID, better spam protection,& more.
* The feature will make it easier for users to search for details of the caller.
* It will only available for premium smartphone.

Truecaller has announced a major update for iPhone users that brings live caller ID and other features as well.

The new features are available for IPhone users in India, South Africa and Nigeria, and whose devices are updated to iOS 16 and higher.

Truecaller plans on rolling it out to more countries soon. There is a big catch with this feature though, and that is it’s available only for Truecaller Premium users.

In India, Truecaller Premium is available at Rs 529 annually or Rs 179 quarterly. There’s a Truecaller Gold subscription plan too, and this one is priced at Rs 5,000 annually.

Truecaller

Truecaller works as an essential tool to identify unknown numbers, spam calls and SMS.
But the app’s features have been rather limited on iOS due to Apple’s tight security measures.

The latest update comes with features that should help iPhone users make the most of the app.

Starting with live caller ID, this feature is now available on iOS and it has been integrated with Siri.

It will essentially help identify calls from unknown users on iPhones.

If you’re an iPhone user and have Truecaller’s live caller ID enabled, all you need to do is say “Hey Siri, Search Truecaller” whenever an unknown number is calling. Truecaller will then pull up information on the unknown number and display it on top of the calling screen.

Speaking about the new update, Rishit Jhunjhunwala, Managing Director, India at Truecaller said, “We are witnessing strong adoption on iPhones and we are constantly innovating within the platform. Our team applied a lot of creativity to build this Siri powered Live Caller ID experience. Finally our community can get to experience Live Caller ID during an incoming call by saying ‘Hey Siri, Search Truecaller’. We are very excited with this global release and will continue to innovate on the iOS platform.”

Truecaller

Truecaller has been a known name in the app market globally — thanks to its eponymous caller-identification service. Its active user base these days numbers 338 million, but it could be bigger: A lack of a caller ID feature on iOS has arguably held back its growth among iPhone users.

Now, in an effort to expand its reach, the Stockholm-based company is introducing an update that will finally provide live caller ID support on iOS, available to people using its paid tiers.

The new feature comes as Truecaller continues to see a lot of growth, but also some knocks in its strongest markets. The app has been one of the more popular ones among mobile users in markets like India where spammers target the masses.

Yet the company has faced criticism over how it collects data for its caller ID service.
Last year, an investigation by Indian magazine The Caravan claimed Truecaller was “comprised of details which have been collected without consent.”

Truecaller

However, the company denied the allegations asserted that the investigation was flawed and based on inaccurate information.

The new caller ID feature will be offered only to users who are on the app’s premium tiers (priced at a range of tiers ranging from $0.99 per month per individual, through to $4.99/month when a user’s carrier is not supported and $9.99/month for family plans, with discounts on annual subscriptions).

And it won’t be just like it is on Android: Unlike the seamless experience available on that platform — users see a caller ID instantly when they receive an incoming call — the iPhone experience will involve a step that requires interacting with Siri.

Nakul Kabra, product director for iOS at Truecaller, told industry that the app has had a limited experience on the iPhone due to how Apple works with third-party caller ID apps.

The current framework for identifying calls in Truecaller is limited to a finite set of numbers stored in directories in Apple’s CallKit framework, chosen by Truecaller’s spam algorithm. That means that other numbers not stored locally require manual search, he said.

To use the new feature, Truecaller subscribers on an iPhone running on iOS 16 or above will be to access live caller ID support by saying, “Hey Siri, Search Truecaller.” This will allow Siri to capture the number appearing on the screen, search for it on the app, then show the result to the user.

The feature leverages Apple’s Siri Shortcuts and App Intents to offer the anticipated live caller ID experience. That means users will need first to enable the Search Truecaller shortcut on their iPhone by tapping the Add to Siri option in the Premium tab.

The first time the shortcut runs, the user will be prompted to allow Truecaller to search from the screenshots the shortcut captures.

“We have been tinkering around with App Intents for the last few months since iOS 16 was publicly launched… Previous iterations didn’t have the right experience to be used in the context of a live call. One of the more recent iterations is what has evolved into this feature,” Kabra said.

Users with more recent iPhones, including the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, will have the option to access the feature without having to call out the Siri phrase and instead will be able to tap the back of their handset. For this, they need to enable the Search Truecaller shortcut from the Back Tap gesture settings.

With this update, Truecaller has also doubled its CallKit directory size and improved its spam detection algorithm to ensure that spam, scam, and fraud calls are recognized more accurately.

“This improved directory makes sure that most top spam and verified business calls can be identified right away even without needing to ask Siri. However, given the limitations of the platform, we cannot identify all calls using the traditional call directories mechanism. This is where the new Live Caller ID comes in and makes sure that you can identify every single call,” Kabra said.

The company also says premium users’ spam lists will receive daily updates. Meanwhile, free users only have the option to update the list manually.

Truecaller additionally introduced a commenting feature for iPhone users that lets them read user feedback coming on spam calls and even contribute with their own comments.
This feature was previously available on Android.

SMS filtering on iOS is also being improved with the ability to categorize incoming text messages into Finance, Orders, Reminders, Coupons, Offers and Junk categories.
This categorization is currently live in India, South Africa and Nigeria and will soon be rolled out to other markets.

The new set of features on Truecaller for iPhone comes months after the iOS app received a revamped experience in August last year. Since then, the company said its daily users on the iPhone had grown more than 80%. The company declined to provide details on how many users it has on iOS in total.

“Live Caller ID on iPhone is the one major aspect that has eluded our iPhone app, and we are excited to finally introduce it with the help of Siri,” said Alan Mamedi, co-founder and CEO at Truecaller, in a prepared statement.

How to enable Truecaller live caller ID on iPhones

* Open the Truecaller app and go to the Premium tab.
* Now click on the ‘Add to Siri’ option, allow access for Truecaller and select ‘Always allow’.
* It essentially adds a Siri shortcut for Truecaller on your iPhone.
* Once this is done, just say ‘Hey Siri, search Truecaller’ whenever an unknown number is calling.

Truecaller says the caller information will be pulled up and displayed within seconds.

In addition to live caller ID, Truecaller has also updated the spam detection feature on the app. Spam detection is two times better, and Premium users will have their spam detection list automatically updated. There’s another feature for users to view and add comments on spam marked numbers. This update will also filter incoming SMS messages and automatically categorise them into Finance, Orders, Reminders, Coupons, Offers and Junk.

Truecaller: Other new features coming to iPhone

The latest update also adds the ability to view and add comments on the numbers that are marked spam. It lets you view user feedback on a spammer that others might provide. It allows users to report their own experience on unknown calls. One will also witness a revamped SMS filtering feature.

With this, the incoming SMS messages will be automatically categorized into Finance, Orders, Reminders, Coupons, Offers, and Junk. The feature is live for iOS 16 and newer versions in India, South Africa, and Nigeria. The platform has confirmed that it will soon roll out the features to some other countries as well.

KM Birla maintains that Vodafone-Idea will roll out 5G soon: Vodafone Idea Steady Fall & Rivals Race Ahead Report

0
Vodafone Idea

HIGHLIGHTS

* Vodafone Idea maintains it will roll out its 5G network in India soon.
* The telecom giant still hasn’t mentioned a specific timeline for the availability of the latest network.
* Jio and Airtel, on the other hand, are rapidly expanding the 5G network in the country.

Vodafone Idea will be launching 5G services in India soon, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairperson of Aditya Birla Group has reiterated.

This comes after Birla mentioned this in an earlier interview in October 2022, but still, a specific timeline isn’t shared yet. Birla spoke on the AIMA Awards’ sidelines and said, “5G rollout will begin soon.”

In comparison, Airtel and Jio have already covered most metros and are slowly expanding to towns nationwide with their 5G network.

“I see we will continue as a country on our path of growth which has been very steady in a world of great turmoil and more uncertainty than us in the last 25 years, so I think that’s a huge positive for India and all of us from the industry have been very proud about it,” the billionaire industrialist said.

Birla said that the “China+1” strategy has been playing out well in India’s favour. “That’s a fact. A lot of people who are now wanting to be in India, invest in India and be integral in the growth store,” he said.

Vi 5G rollout in India

The slow attitude towards the 5G rollout has cost Vi to lose subscribers steadily to its rivals, Airtel and Jio who already launched and are expanding 5G at a rapid phase. Since April 2022, the company has lost over 4.24 crore subscribers. The 12-month period ending December 2022 alone saw a customer decline of 2.42 crore.

In stark contrast, Airtel and Jio are rolling out the network at a rapid phase. Both telecom networks promised to complete the 5G rollout by the end of March 2024, including towns and villages.
On the other hand, Vi hasn’t made any such announcements and this could be one of the reasons for the telecom giant losing subscribers in the country.

Vodafone Idea reported a net loss of Rs 7,990 crore for the 3rd quarter that ended December 31st, 2022. The company reported a net loss of Rs 7,595.5 crore in the September quarter.

The total revenue stood at Rs 10,620.6 crore in the December quarter and during the period under review, which is 0.1 percent up against Rs 10,614.6 crore in the September quarter.

Airtel added 0.1 million and 0.2 million active users in December 2022 in Haryana and Odisha circles, as per earlier reports .

This could serve as a good indication to believe that Airtel’s subscriber base is increasing.
Furthermore, the report added that Reliance Jio’s active user base increased by 3 million in December, while Airtel has managed to increase by 6 million during the same period.

Vodafone Idea Close to 2 Years in Subscriber Losing Streak

This subscriber loss is despite Vodafone Idea’s lucrative tariffs in the market, which no other telco is offering in India.

It appears that customers are losing trust in the telco, and the quality provided by the telco is also a major reason why the telco is losing subscribers month on month.

With losses mounting every quarter, the telco has not yet announced a concrete revival plan, 5G rollout or investment announcement so far.

The only news customers get to hear is about the company engaging with 5G device vendors and Mobile handset support.

Vodafone Idea 5G

Vodafone Idea 5G Roll out will begin soon, says Kumar Mangalam Birla, according to a report by CNBC-TV18. Birla was speaking on the sidelines of the AIMA Awards. “5G rollout will begin soon,” he said.

In an earlier interview in October 2022 too, Birla had said the same, but a timeline has not been shared.

The Government of India has approved equity conversion upon the promises of the promotors to bring substantial investments into the company, along with rolling out 5G Services to meet license obligations.

Absolutely Committed

KM Birla always remained Absolutely Committed to Vodafone Idea, but nothing concrete came out anytime regarding the investments or the company’s roadmap to clear existing debts.

On the other hand, while Airtel and Jio are rolling out 5G services, Vodafone Idea is maintaining its subscriber losing streak and is close to touch the two-year mark. Vodafone Idea lost over 1.3 million subscribers, most recently in January 2023, according to TRAI Data.

Vodafone Idea’s VLR (Active Subscribers) percentage in January 2023 is recorded at 87.15 while the highest recorded is 99.30 of Airtel.

Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairperson of Aditya Birla Group, has said that Vodafone Idea will be launching its 5G services soon.

Birla had said this in an earlier interview in October 2022 but a timeline has not been shared yet.

Birla was speaking on the sidelines of the AIMA Awards. “5G rollout will begin soon,” he said.

Vodafone Idea has been losing subscribers steadily as its competitors Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio have launched 5G services already in the country.

Since April 2021, the company has lost over 4.24 crore subscribers. The 12-month period ending December 2022 alone saw subscriber-base erosion of 2.42 crore.

Vodafone Idea reported a net loss of Rs 7,990 crore for the third quarter that ended December 31, 2022.
In the September quarter, the company posted a net loss of Rs 7,595.5 crore.

In the December quarter, total revenue stood at Rs 10,620.6 crore during the period under review, up 0.1 percent against Rs 10,614.6 crore in the September quarter.

Airtel has already reached 500 cities in its 5G coverage and has the target to cover urban India with 5G footprints by September this year.

Jio 5G available in 406 cities and by December 2023, the company plans Pan India coverage.

Under the dire needs for funds infusion, the telco is in discussions with the banks for funding.

FAQ’s on Vodafone

1) What is the Vi Rs 129 plan?

Ans) The revised Vi plans now offer more data and access to entertainment content as well. The Rs 129 prepaid plan offers unlimited calling and 200MB data with a validity of 18 days. This recharge plan however does not come with any SMS benefits, and it is recommended for people who require unlimited calling. For more benefits, Vi’s Rs 298 prepaid plan can be opted.

2) What is the Vi Rs 298 plan?

Ans) Vi has revised the Rs 298 prepaid plan with which you get 50GB of 4G data along with free access to Vi Movies and TV, premium movies, originals, news and live TV. The Vi Rs 298 prepaid plan comes with a validity of 28 days.

If we compare this with Airtel, the telco offers a prepaid plan priced at Rs 299 with 2GB data per day, unlimited calls, and 100 SMS per day. It also comes with a validity of 28 days. Another offer with this plan is unlimited 5G data. In comparison to Jio’s Rs 299 plan, users get 2GB data per day, subscription to Jio Apps and 100 SMS per day.

In addition to the revised plans, Vi has also launched a new Rs 181 prepaid plan that offers 30GB of data with a validity of 30 days. This prepaid plan however offers 1GB data per day and not the entire amount at once. It is also more of a booster pack so you can use this with an existing prepaid plan. So if you want more data then you can opt for this recharge plan.

Xiaomi Pad 6

HIGHLIGHTS

* Xiaomi’s upcoming tablet is expected to debut on April 18.
* Xiaomi Pad 6 launch confirmed by company chief Lu Weibing
* Xiaomi Pad 6 has now been spotted on Geekbench with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 chipset.
* The tablet is expected to launch in two models where one will be a ‘Pro’ variant.

Xiaomi Pad 6 is expected to debut alongside the 13 Ultra smartphone on April 18th, after the tablet’s launch was confirmed by Xiaomi Group’s president Lu Weibing earlier.

The rumour mill has been rife with Xiaomi Pad 6 leaks and we’ve now spotted what seems to be Xiaomi’s latest tablet on benchmarking website Geekbench.

A Xiaomi device with the model number 23046P50C has appeared on Geekbench.
Notably, the same model number has been associated with the Xiaomi Pad 6 in previous leaks.

According to the listing, the tablet will pack the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 chipset which already powers flagship and high-end smartphones in the market.

The Geekbench also reveals that the Xiaomi Pad 6 will be equipped with the Adreno 730 GPU for graphics. It has also managed to get a 1712 single-core score and 4348 multi-core score. On the software front, the Xiaomi Pad 6 will most likely run Android 13 out-of-the-box.

Lu Weibing, Xiaomi’s president has put all the rumors to rest and confirmed the upcoming launch of the Xiaomi Pad 6 Android tablet this month. Weibing revealed this information via Chinese microblogging website Weibo.

While the exact launch date for the Xiaomi in Pad 6 still remains a mystery, online leaks suggests its arrival on the same day as the Xiaomi 13 Ultra.

Possible date for the latter’s launch tipped is April 18, 2023. Notably, the suggested mid-April timeline for the Xiaomi 13 Ultra smartphone and the Xiaomi Pad 6 tablet is not suggested by the rumor mill and not Xiaomi.

Unless the brand gives an affirmation, take this information as a pinch of salt.

Xiaomi Pad 6 Specifications

The Xiaomi Pad 6 has been rumoured earlier with some of its key specifications. It is expected to feature a 120Hz display with HDR10+ support and Dolby Vision. Rumours also suggest the Xiaomi Pad 6 will pack a 10,000mAh battery with support for 67W fast charging. More leaked specifications include quad speakers and triple rear cameras on the Xiaomi Pad 6.

Xiaomi is also expected to launch two models as part of its tablet series. The model with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 chipset is reportedly the ‘Pro’ variant. There’s also a regular variant in the works and this one will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset.

Leaked renders of the Xiaomi Pad 6 were also recently revealed and it looks like the tablet will adopt a camera module similar to the flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 12 Pro. We can also except flat edges on the tablet according to the images.

Xiaomi has scheduled a global event for April 18th where it will debut the 13 Ultra smartphone. The same is said to launch in China as well which is where we except the Xiaomi Pad 6 to be unveiled as well. With the launch date nearing we should get more confirmation soon.

FAQ’s on Xiaomi Pad 6

1) What are Xiaomi Pad 6 Hardware Features (Leaked)?

Ans) According to all the recent leaks and rumors, the Xiaomi Pad 6 series tablets will come with several upgrades over the previous-gen Pad 5 lineup. We might see Xiaomi releasing the vanilla Xiaomi Pad 6 and the Pad 6 Pro in the global markets. Speaking of the expected spec-sheet, the vanilla Xiaomi Pad 6 tablet could feature the Snapdragon 870 chipset. For reference, the vanilla Xiaomi Pad 5 was launched with the Snapdragon 860 SoC.

On the other hand, the Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro could come either with the Dimensity 9000+ chipset or the Snapdragon 8+ gen 1 chipset. Both Xiaomi Pad 6 and the Pad 6 Pro could come with a 12.1-inch display with 2880 x 1800 pixels screen resolution and 120Hz or 144Hz refresh rate. The exact camera hardware that the Xiaomi Pad 6 series tablets will offer remains unknown. However, the rumor mill indicates a 10,000 mAh battery unit combined with fast charging support.

2) Has Xiaomi Pad 6 Official Launch Confirmed For Mid-April?

Ans) Lu Weibing, Xiaomi’s president has put all the rumors to rest and confirmed the upcoming launch of the Xiaomi Pad 6 Android tablet this month. Weibing revealed this information via Chinese microblogging website Weibo.

While the exact launch date for the Xiaomi Pad 6 still remains a mystery, online leaks suggests its arrival on the same day as the Xiaomi 13 Ultra.

3) When will the Xiaomi Pad 6 be released?

Ans) The Pad 5 first announced in China in August 2021, going on sale in the rest of the world later in early 2022.

That means it’s been more than a year since the Pad 5, and so in some ways the Pad 6 already feels overdue.

The next plausible opportunity for a launch is the MWC 2023 tradeshow at the end of February, where Xiaomi has already confirmed it will have a booth – but will it launch products too?

As with most Xiaomi products, we wouldn’t expect to see it available in the US, and if the previous generation is any guide then the Pro model may stay China-only, with only the regular Pad 6 making it overseas.

4) How much will the Xiaomi Pad 6 cost?

Ans) There’s no confirmation on an official price for the Pad 6 yet, so we need to look at how much the previous generation cost to give us some idea. Here’s the prices for the Xiaomi Pad 5:

* Xiaomi Pad 5 6GB/128GB – £369/€349/₹26,999
* Xiaomi Pad 5 6GB/256GB – €399/₹28,999

Prices are already quite competitive against the 10.2in iPad against which it directly competes.

Because of that, we’d expect to see them stay pretty much the same when the Xiaomi Pad 6 arrives.

5) What specs and features will we see in the Xiaomi Pad 6?

Ans) We’re only beginning to see the first leaks about the Pad 6 series, which is expected to include the Xiaomi Pad 6 and Pad 6 Pro.

The best information from XiaomiUi was the code hinting at both of these tablets, with the code names ‘pipa’ and ‘liuqin’ respectively.

According to the code dive, the regular Xiaomi Pad 6 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870, the natural step up from the 860 in its predecessor.

The Pad 6 Pro will be more powerful, using the flagship Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 chip.
The code details more specs here too, including a 1880×2880 120Hz AMOLED display, quad stereo speakers, and a dual rear camera setup that will apparently consist of a main camera and a depth sensor.

The two tablets will use the Snapdragon 870 and 8+ Gen 1 respectively, adding that the Pro will go as high as 12GB of RAM and 512GB storage.

He disagrees slightly on the screens though, predicting that both tablets will use similar 11in displays with a resolution of 1800×2880 – similar to that above, but not exactly the same – adding that while the Pad 6 will use a 120Hz refresh rate, the Pro will be faster at 144Hz.

Interestingly he also adds that both tablets will feature fingerprint scanners – which weren’t featured on last year’s models – and will have the same 67W wired charging.

In the Xiaomi Pad 5 review, one of the few hardware improvements we thought were necessary came in the area of connectivity. First up, there is no LTE version available, which can be a problem if you find yourself out of Wi-Fi range.

So, we’d hope for at least a 4G model on the Pad 6 if 5G capabilities are still too expensive to hit those low price points. Wi-Fi 6 would also be nice, although it’s not really that pressing as most people still don’t have compatible routers at home.

While Xiaomi offers two storage variants on the Pad 5 – 128GB and 256GB – both come with 6GB of RAM. Admittedly, this isn’t too bad, but we’d be much happier to see 8GB in the Pad 6, especially if the expected Android 12L system that’s optimised for tablets arrives this year.
