One Plus 10 Pro 5G
One Plus 10 Pro 5G

HIGHLIGHTS

  • It has a large 5,000mAh battery and supports up to 80W fast charging
  • The 10 Pro 5G has a new Sony IMX615 selfie camera
  • The performance and software experience of the 10 Pro 5G are very good

What are the qualities you look for before buying a smartphone? What is your favourite tech brand? What are your views on OnePlus 10 Pro 5G? Is it worth your money? Find out.

In Brief

The year 2022 has been the year of electronic devices as many of them were well received and tech giants like Apple, Samsung, Sony, Google, Microsoft, and many others coming out with many gadgets like smartphones, laptops, tablets, among others.

OnePlus too has contributed richly this year in terms of devices, which is quite a huge achievement for a company that is less than a decade old and to hold your own amongst the likes of Apple and Samsung is no less than a herculean task.

OnePlus smartphones are extremely popular throughout the world and with India being virtually the biggest export market for all tech giants, the company has exported many of its devices in the country since the past decade, most of which have been received well.

OnePlus 10 Pro 5G Review:

OnePlus 10 Pro 5G was launched in China in early 2022, which makes it a very different launch this year. The handset is slowly finding its way into other countries only now, which also includes India.

This is the one of the few models in the OnePlus 10 series of smartphones as of now while the 9 series had released three models in India last year and is the flagship model for the brand that the makers have pinned very high hopes on to emerge as successful.

OnePlus 10 Pro 5G is quite slick in design and very nice to look at that will prove to be just as successful as its predecessors because things are looking bright for the model as it has picked up to where OnePlus 9 Pro had left off by incorporating many changes on paper that makes it a worthy flagship model.

While some people were unhappy with the news of the design, I find the design very slick and exquisite, along with its numerous features and specifications that makes it completely different from other devices released this year.

My Opinion

OnePlus 10 Pro 5G has come in a red and black coloured, rectangular box with ‘OnePlus 10 Pro 5G’ imprinted right in the middle while the bottom it is given ‘Co-developed with HASSELBLAD’, again in the middle.

The box does seem a little heavy to hold, which led me to believe that there are many other things inside the box. Upon opening it, I found a black rectangle shaped package in which the device’s manual was kept along with the safety instructions where it told you what and what not to do with the device.

On further examination, I found another package cover, smaller in size than the first, which had a number of small pamphlets where one mentioned about the OnePlus Red Cable Club along with its official website that powered everything it was connected while the card itself was attached to the back.

OnePlus 10 Pro 5G Review:

Another one was a ‘Quick Start Guide’ on how to start and operate the device in its initial stages along with a set of ‘Must Know’ instructions on what all you can expect from the handset and its features.

Then, there was the smartphone in all its glory with a shiny back cover while the display screen looked very exquisite at a first glance, as though it had just been purchased from the showroom.

The handset was a little heavy, which I though was due to the back-cover but even after removing it, the smartphone still felt the same, which is why I handled it carefully as though holding a delicate but expensive piece of glass painting.

The phone was kept in a white plastic cover underneath which was the mobile charger that had ‘80W SUPERNOOC’ engraved at the back while the charger fire was dark red in colour and looked good.

Then there is the USB Type-C cable, and other things such as a SIM eject tool, stickers, etc. to complete the picture, which is does give out a feeling of royalty upon first viewing it.

I felt the design was similar to the previous OnePlus models but the phone was quite good as I thought the features and specifications lived up to my expectations, which is why others should get to know of it as well.

Design, Features & Specifications of OnePlus 10 Pro 5G

Many people found 10 Pro 5G’s design very similar to the previous models, which is why it received immense criticism during the initial stages because many users felt that the camera module layout and its shape resembled that of a kitchen hob but I felt it had its own distinct look.

The camera module, with ceramic coating, does seem to be inspired by Samsung’s flagship models that came out some time back but the display had Gorilla Glass Victus, which means that the device is scratch free.

The device is heavier than its predecessor at 201g but slimmer at 8.55mm while it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 with an LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage configuration, 120Hz refresh rate, QHD+ resolution, 10-bit colour depth, low blue emissions, colour accuracy, and HDR certifications.

Moving on, the LTPO AMOLED panel, belonging to second gen, is a good improvement in this model as the refresh rate can be lowered to 1Hz while the in-display fingerprint sensor is better positioned as well, which makes it easy to locate and use.

OnePlus 10 Pro 5G Review:

It comes in two variants- 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage, both of which cost Rs.66,999 and Rs.71,999, respectively, while there are two colour options to look forward to viz. Emerald Forest and Organic Black.

The Ultra-wide camera has a 50 megapixel resolution while the rear view camera has 48 megapixel SONY IMX789 sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, OIS (optical stabilisation), video recording at up to 8K 34fps while the telephoto camera has an 8 megapixel resolution with f/2.4 aperture, and OIS.

The optical zoom is around 3.3X while the digital zoom is 30X while the camera app is exquisitely designed, which makes it quite a unique thing to look at as the camera gives a shiny look to the whole device.

Coming to battery, the capacity has increased to 5,000mAh that is dual celled, a trait it shares with 9 series smartphones but this model comes with an 80W fast charging support as mentioned above while the wireless charging is the same 50W AirVOOC standard.

The battery life is quite excellent as I was careful to test it with the display resolution set to Auto and 120Hz refresh rate. I used the phone carefully where I watched a video for around six hours of onscreen time with an active SIM and was quite astonished to find that battery level went only 25% down by the end of the day.

If the display resolution to QHD+ and game heavily, the runtime will be quite less, but most users are quite satisfied with this battery life while the handset itself ran for nearly 19 hours in the HD video loop test, a unique time.

OnePlus 10 Pro 5G also features stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, and Wi-Fi 6. The one minus point about the handset is that it does not come with an IP68 rating for any of the units sold in India, unlike the Verizon specific models that are sold in the US that have the rating and the ones sold in other countries have the same seals and water ingress protections in place.

Conclusion

OnePlus 10 Pro 5G, in a nutshell, has its fair share of pros and cons where the upgrades are a huge improvement when compared to the 9 series models. The battery too is large with quicker charging with more powerful AMOLED display and SoC, better selfie camera features, and many more.

Coming to the drawbacks, it is prone to overheating like its 9 series counterparts when the camera app is on during hot weather while the ultra-mode camera is unusable for macros while the images are not available in detailed format.

Overall, my rating for OnePlus 10 Pro 5G is ***/5 stars.

Google stadia

Highlights

  • Google Stadia
  • Mobile Streaming Service
  • Rich Alternatives in cloud streaming

Are you fond of playing games? What are your views on Google Stadia? What are the worthy alternatives that can be availed in place of Stadia? Find out.

In Brief

Google has a wonderful 2022 as of now with the launch of many devices that have received positive response from all sundry. Apart from smartphones and laptops, it seems Google has decided to establish dominance in the gaming field as well by announcing a new cloud gaming service.

Google Stadia is a mobile game device that is all set to close down in January 2023, which has proven to be sad news for Stadia fans despite Google being known for halting promising products in the past.

Google Stadia fans are quite passionate about their games, which is why this news has hit them very hard and many of them have expressed their disappointment on many social media platforms.

The disappointment becomes more pronounced as the stadia services were doing a fine job with regards to their games right from providing greater clarity, quick response, low latency gaming performance, etc. to name a few.

Google Stadia stood apart from other cloud streaming services in this regard as many of its counterparts could offer only a few of the aforementioned services while some couldn’t even provide that.

As of now, Google Stadia is on ventilator and will soon meet its demise, which is why it is necessary to come out with worthy alternatives that can match it in many ways, if not all, so we are going to look at some of them.

List of Games

  • Xbox Cloud Gaming– We’ll start with the one whose name everyone is familiar with as Xbox Cloud Gaming, a Microsoft by-product, is an excellent alternative you can find for Google Stadia, which is a much better option instead of purchasing a gaming PC or console. If you’re looking for games of topnotch quality, you’ll find a huge library of goodies in Xbox where you just need to subscribe to Xbox Cloud Gaming, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, among others. You can avail it on macOS, Chrome OS, Windows PC, Shield TV, etc.
Pros Cons
Excellent library of popular games Latency and resolution are second to Stadia
Connect accounts from other gaming stores
Compatible with multiple devices
Can play Fortnite on iPhone and iPad
  • PlayStation (PS) Now– This is another one that immediately comes to mind when you talk about Google Stadia alternatives. A big reason is that PlayStation Now is India’s answer to Google India, and why not? You can avail a library of PS2, PS3, PS4, and PS5 games from any location. As Sony has merged PS Now with PlayStation Plus, you need to get a PS Plus membership to avail the cloud gaming service in many countries like US, Canada, France, New Zealand, Belgium, Germany, among others
Pros Cons
Play popular PS games Only available on Windows PCs
Internet speed requirement is low
Get PS Plus benefits
  • Steam Link– Now this is a utility meant for game casting while Google Stadia is a cloud gaming service that requires a powerful desktop PC with strong GPU and CPU performance with a fast wired connection for Ethernet and low latency gaming. Steam Link can optimize games for different sizes and depends on the hardware of your machine that is available on SteamOS, Windows, macOS, Android, Linux, among others
  • Shadow– It has excellent prowess in cloud computing, which makes Shadow a worthy alternative to Google Stadia as it has massive setup of cloud gaming for installing your games of choice because it has been optimized for video games, low latency performance, gamepad support, among others and is available on macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, etc.
Pros Cons
Cloud computer where you can install games Quite expensive
Optimized for gaming
Offers powerful hardware
  • Nvidia GeForce Now– This is also one of the best alternatives for Google Stadia because, similar to Stadia, you can play your favourite games from any device in particular be it PC, Android smartphone, Android TV, macOS, among others even though many people view it low in quality and latency when compared to Stadia but all said and done, you just need to connect your Epic Games and Steam account, aside from games from various other studios to gain access to games on Nvidia GeForce Now
Pros Cons
Excellent library of popular games Latency and resolution are second to Stadia
Connect accounts from other gaming stores
Compatible with multiple devices
Can play Fortnite on iPhone and iPad
  • Amazon Luna– If you’re fond of Ubisoft games, Amazon Luna is the platform to look for. In fact, many Stadia users played their favourite games here before its arrival on Google Platform but now that Stadia’s days are numbered, Amazon Luna might, once again, become the new hub for game lovers as its services are affordable
Pros Cons
Pretty affordable Mainstream games are missing
Ubisoft’s library is available
Hosts many gaming genres

Twitter Takes the TikTok Route; Showcases Full Screen Videos

Twitter
Twitter

Highlights

  • Full-screen videos now on Twitter
  • TikTok Route
  • Immersive Views

What are your views on TikTok? Are you fond of watching videos? Are you interested in seeing Twitter videos in full screen format? Find out.

In Brief

Twitter is one of the most popular social media platforms we have today that led the revolution during the mid-2000s with the likes of Facebook and YouTube, which was soon to be followed by WhatsApp, Instagram, and many others.

Twitter is more or less regarded as a toxic platform nowadays where people constantly spew venom over things they hate and have no qualms in crossing their limits or going overboard in an apparent bid to force their opinions and thinking upon others.

Twitter

It looks like Twitter is all set to follow in the footsteps of TikTok as it has decided to start showcasing videos in full screen format and this will be welcome news for users that are fond of watching their favourite videos with a full screen so now Twitter feeds will be replete with them.

Until now, viewers had to be content with watching Twitter videos in a smaller screen but all thanks to the new media viewer of the social media platform, the viewers can now avail a highly immersive experience, as they can immediately switch to full screen mode.

Once you click on the video, you can retweet, like, share, and comment on it, which will be similar to the features of a TikTok video and if you think that the similarity ends there, then you’re wrong.

Users can now avail the Scroll Up gesture in order to continue watching more videos in a format similar to not just TikTok but also Instagram Reels and YouTube shorts, due to which you can explore more content.

You will also get a back-arrow option through which you can exit full screen mode and go back to your original feed although only those users who’ve installed iOS 16 in their iPhones can avail this feature in the initial stages while Android users have to wait awhile before getting it.

By bringing in this new change, Twitter is catering to viewers’ demands and following the trend, even though there will be brickbats from certain users who are far from pleased with this new feature.

For the unversed, Instagram had conducted initial tests for using the full screen mode for its entire feed, which was met with immense criticism, which soon escalated to a full-scale backlash, leaving Instagram with no choice but to roll back the decision.

Conclusion

It remains to be seen whether Twitter will receive the same response as its counterpart or will users will welcome the full screen feature like some others have done but it goes without saying that it will bring in a change in viewing videos as watching it in full screen is different from watching it in a small screen.

Therefore, while the device will be launched as a Poco-branded model in India and the global market, it will be launched with Redmi branding in China.

  • Telegram Premium was launched in global markets in June
  • Telegram Premium to Increase its Subscriber Base
  • It competes directly with WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger

Brief Summary

When it comes to messaging applications, WhatsApp is the first name that comes to mind followed by others like Signal and Telegram even though they both have their own importance but are highly underrated when compared to their more erstwhile counterpart.

Telegram has acquired its own place in the messaging medium as there are numerous subscribers of the application in large numbers and its makers want to capitalize on its growing popularity among the masses.

The messaging app has come out with its monthly subscription service, Telegram Premium, which will make the application cheaper for all subscribers in India as the Dubai based company has announced a price change for its Indian users whilst the revised price is now circulating on the platform already.

Telegram premium

It has been many months since Telegram rolled out its premium service around early to mid-2022, which is being classified as a paid tier through which subscribers can avail new features, updates, and improved functionality, from other accounts and channels to faster speed downloading, which is a good way to raise revenue.

‘Telegram Premium is now available in your country at a discount. Some readers might be astonished on hearing this but it is true that, from now on, a Telegram Premium subscription in India can be availed at Rs.179 per month, which is around 60% lower than the global price of the premium subscription when it came out in June 2022.

Up until the first week of October 2022, all the premium subscribers had to pay Rs.469 per month, which is quite higher than the revised price, and this is the reason why there are many people that want to subscribe to the Telegram Premium application immediately.

Conclusion

During June 2022, the premium subscriber count of Telegram service comprised of nearly 700 million active users, which has brought Telegram face-to-face with more popular messaging apps like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, which have over 1 billion and 2 billion active users, respectively.

It logs in to your steps automatically when you go for a walk or start running and fully records your entire run from start to finish even when you’ve stopped awhile for rest and respite.

Users can also avail a health summary in less than two minutes that displays their heart rate, stress levels, and oxygen saturation (SpO2) while for women, the device predicts the monthly menstrual cycle with a built-in algorithm.

The gadget is fully equipped to handle anything thrown at its way as it comes with an IP68 rating, which makes it invulnerable to water, sand, and dust while its strap is created to take you further with a breathable and sweat-permeable material.

Battery Power

The smartwatch reduces charging times through a reliable long-lasting battery with 230 mAh units, which lasts up to 10 of usage or 30 days of standby time. Due to usage of Bluetooth connection taking a toll on battery life, the watch lowers power consumption when on Bluetooth.

OnePlus Build Quality

There are smartwatches, and then there’s the OnePlus Nord Watch. Durability and quality are tied to the OnePlus name, and the OnePlus Nord Watch is no exception. The watch has passed 168 hours of burn-in testing and comes with buttons that have been tried over 200,000 times.

What are the qualities you look for before buying a new smartphone? How do you feel about Poco as a brand? What all can users expect from Poco M5? Find out.

Brief Summary

When it comes to the best smartphones, there are a slew of brands vying for public attention like Apple, Samsung, OPPO, Infinix, among others but today we are going to talk about a brand new smartphone model from Poco.

Poco is a highly underrated brand when compared to the aforementioned ones because it was launched only a couple of years back in August 2018. But no less efficient than them and we are going to talk about the latest Poco smartphone model that has come out in the market, which is Poco M5 launched in India on September 5, 2022.

Poco M5

When it comes to good looking smartphones, Poco M5 will join the list of its illustrious predecessors that has lived up to the reputation of being their worthy successor with all the necessary features and specifications that you can hope for.

Poco M5 has been very well received by many users who’ve liked its features and specifications along with the affordable price value, which was the main cause of concern for many people as they wouldn’t have been able to afford it due to budget constraints.

My Opinion on Poco M5

Poco M5 has come in a yellow, rectangular retail box with ‘POCO M5’ labelled in huge capital letters at the bottom left with the Poco Logo highlighted at the top right and the ‘Made in India’ campaign on the left.

At the bottom it is given ‘India’s #1 Quality Smartphone Brand’, which has become synonymous with POCO models as of late as almost every device is launched with this particular quote.

Upon opening the box, a yellow plastic box with the manual inside along with the instructions on how to handle it with care, as is the case with all electronic devices and gadgets.

The smartphone model is next and even though it is slightly heavy, the device is quite exquisite when it comes to design while at the bottom of the box, there is a 22.5W charging adapter, along with a USB Cable Type-C Port, TPU Protective Case, SIM Ejector Tool, along with the usual paperwork.

Upon first glance, Poco M5 is very beautiful to look at and doesn’t feel like a regular affordable smartphone that can be purchased easily as it comes with a textured finish that greatly resembles leather at the back panel that gives viewers a premium look and feel.

Poco M5

While its design is something that many would find similar to other brands of smartphones, it does have the necessary X-Factor despite being neither slim nor light smartphone but it is one of the best models in recent times that everyone should try out.

When I held it in my hand, I experienced a strange, inexplicable feeling, despite the slight heaviness of the handset, which is why I held it a little tight and briskly as though I was holding an expensive piece of glass.

A moment later, I started examining the model to see if it was everything that it was made out to be by its makers and found most, if not all, the features up my alley and came to the conclusion that it was indeed a worthy model.

While the handset is made of plastic, it is perfect for daily use due to its durability while the front screen has a Gorilla Glass 3 protection, which is something that every big smartphone should have nowadays.

Price, Features & Specifications of Poco M5

Poco M5 comes with a 6.9 inch LCD, FHD+ display screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a Gorilla Glass 3 protection as mentioned above. It is powered by MediaTek Helio G99, which is enough to keep pace with the daily tasks such as social media apps, browsing, YouTube video surfing, and lastly, watching movies on the numerous OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ Hotstar, Sony LIV, among others.

The general animations were something I found quite slick for my use, something I could not find with other smartphone models that have come out in the past few years and part of it was due to the 90Hz display that made for a snappy experience.

It is quite a good model that you can purchase in India under Rs.15,000 as the starting price is Rs.12,499 while the sales price is even lower at Rs.10,499, which is a worthy option for students, casual phone users, and people that want a secondary option that will come in handy for many days at a stretch.

It comes with two storage variants viz. 4GB RAM + 64GB internal capacity and 6GB RAM + 128GB internal capacity (which is this particular model) while its weight is 201g although the slight heaviness does make it feel it is a little more than that.

The MediaTek’s Helio G99 processor was unveiled in August 2022, which many people consider the lifeline of Poco M5, along with other smartphone models like Redmi 11 Prime, Infinix Note 12 Pro, among others.

Even though it is a 4G model handset, it has all the basis covered in the form of its features with a peerless design at such a ridiculously low price while the 90Hz refresh rate is a good choice for game lovers as they can enjoy the gaming experience a lot more while the display screen makes it perfect for watching videos and movies.

Now coming to the 50MP camera due to which the images have a natural depth of field while the app itself locks down the focus quickly while the textures in things such as walls and flowers are processed well and good, which is why the pictures are not smoothened out.

The portrait mode is also fine, which lends a shallow depth of field effect to the images but the natural colours and textures are quite jarring while the night pictures have artefacts and grain due to which you need to switch to night modes immediately as it solves the issue once and for all.

• Although we lag on technology side and eco system to start working, we are not late as 5G use cases are still coming up even in other countries who deployed it earlier and real 5G speeds are only achieved now for those who deployed 5G ahead of time.
Even Japan and Korea are still figuring out key use cases leading to monetization.
So, no we are not really late.
