Xiaomi 13S Series Cancelled

This news comes amidst the Xiaomi 13 series global debut that is set for February 26th at the MWC 2023 show. The top executive confirmed on Weibo that Xiaomi will skip the half-year update and advised fans to not wait for the Xiaomi 13S models.

The reason for the cancellation is still unclear but we can speculate that last year, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 faced energy and thermal issues and for that reason, the brand introduced the Xiaomi 12S series with the TSMC-made Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. This offered better performance and battery life comparatively.

Xiaomi 13 Ultra Case

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra case image that has leaked shows the phone has a large circular module on the back, which could house at least four cameras, laser autofocus, LED flash, and other cutouts.

This doesn’t come as a surprise considering the predecessor is also a big phone. The Xiaomi 13 Ultra is rumoured to launch in March or April in China. The phone’s main focus could be the cameras.

There are chances the phone might retain the 1-inch main sensor and might add gimbal stabilisation. All four cameras on the back might have autofocus support and there will be a dToF (direct Time-of-Flight) sensor too.

Not many Reasons to Launch the Xiaomi 13S Series

The reason for the cancellation is unclear. Perhaps, it’s the lack of reasons to launch a Xiaomi 13S series that prevail over the reasons to launch. Last year, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 did not perform so well with energy and thermal issues.

For that reason, Qualcomm ran to launch a new variant using TSMC’s manufacturing process. That gave birth to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which was much better than its predecessor when it comes to performance and energy efficiency.

The extra performance, efficiency, and the camera upgrades with Leica branding were enough to justify the Xiaomi 12S series’ existence. In fact, almost every brand in the market launched phones with the SD8+ Gen 1.

Also, Xiaomi is expected to launch soon a Xiaomi 13 Ultra variant to complete the lineup. Last year, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra was in the plans.

However, due to delays and other issues, the company ultimately cancelled it to focus on the Xiaomi 12S Ultra.

This newly launched Infinix device features a 6.6-inch IPS LCD display with an HD+ (1612×720) resolution, a refresh rate of 60Hz, and a peak brightness of 500nits.

A Unisoc SC9863A1 SoC and a PowerVR GPU powers the latest Smart series model. It includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and users also get the virtual RAM feature to increase the memory by another 3GB.

The new Infinix Smart 7 features a dual-rear camera setup with a 13-megapixel primary AI sensor with an LED flash, a 2-megapixel secondary sensor and a dual LED flash. For video calls and selfies, the smartphone sports a 5-megapixel front-facing camera housed in a waterdrop notch alongside an LED flash.

A “first-in-segment” 6,000mAh battery powers the latest Smart series smartphone. It has a USB Type-C port that supports 10W charging. The smartphone includes a microSD card slot. The model includes a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner as well as software-based face unlock.

The Infinix Smart 7 with a wave pattern design as well as an anti-bacterial back panel weighs 207 grams and has dimensions of 75.63mm x 164.2mm x 9.37mm. The smartphone’s connectivity options include Dual-SIM support, Bluetooth 4.2 support, and GPS support among others.
