HomeTech NewsXiaomi Pad 6 Live Images Show Similarities with Xiaomi 12 Pro-like Camera Design, Launch Soon

HIGHLIGHTS

* The Xiaomi Pad 6 will seemingly get a Xiaomi 12 Pro-like camera module.
* It also appears to come with a unibody tablet design language.
* The ‘Pro’ version of the Pad 6 tablet could feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC.
* The Xiaomi Pad 6 is expected to come in three variants – and will succeed last year’s Pad 5.

The Mi Pad 5 series has been a popular choice among tablet enthusiasts, and it has been a while since its release. Therefore, it is expected that Xiaomi will release the Pad 6 soon.

Recent leaks suggest that the new device will be launched in the second quarter of this year and could make its debut at the MWC 2023 conference.

As the launch date approaches, some bloggers have leaked images of the real Xiaomi Pad 6, giving us a glimpse of what the tablet could look like.

China-headquartered electronics conglomerate Xiaomi is expected to launch a new tablet in the coming months, following up on the Pad 5 lineup that was initially unveiled in China back in August 2021.

While plenty of leaks and rumours about these tablets have surfaced online, most have alluded to the specifications that the new tablet lineup would offer.

Now, a leaked live image of the tablet’s rear panel has surfaced from the supply chain in China on social media platform Weibo, showcasing how it looks similar to the rear camera module seen on the brand’s flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 12 Pro.

Xiaomi Pad 6: What We Know So Far About the Upcoming Tablet from Xiaomi

Xiaomi Pad 6

According to the leaked images, the Xiaomi Pad 6 will come in a silver color that is commonly used in notebooks.

The tablet’s rear camera module is similar to the Xiaomi 12, which suggests that it could be equipped with three cameras.

The top camera is the largest, while the other two are smaller and almost the same size. These leaked images seem to be credible, and they provide a good idea of the tablet’s appearance.

According to the live image, which was first reported by China-based news publication CNMO, the Xiaomi Pad 6 lineup appears to feature the same camera module design as the Xiaomi 12 Pro.

This typically helps brands create a marketing campaign by giving the tablet the same design elements as that of its flagship smartphones – and also enables it to save design and assembly cost as it enables utilisation of more similar assembly components, a factor that has a trickle-down effect on the cost of a device.

The Xiaomi Pad 6 camera appears to thus host the primary camera module at the top, and has lines that cleanly divide the rest of the components of the module. There is a second camera unit, details of which are not known yet.

There is also a third unit that is likely just a design addition for symmetry, and a third segment within the module for accommodating the LED flash.

Xiaomi Pad 6

In terms of specifications, the Pad 6 is rumored to feature an 11-12 inch full-screen display with a resolution of 2880×1800p and a 120Hz/144Hz refresh rate. The display will support Dolby Vision and HDR10+, providing an excellent visual experience for users. The tablet will also feature a 10,000mAh dual-cell battery that supports 67W fast charging, ensuring that users can quickly recharge their devices when they need to.

The leaked image is said to belong to the standard Xiaomi Pad 6 tablet, and not its Pro models, which would therefore make for an upgrade to the lineup — but the Pad 5 launched in 2021, had a single 13MP rear camera, while the Pad 5 Pro and 5 Pro 5G had dual-rear camera modules of 13MP + 5MP and 50MP + 5MP, respectively. More details, however, are yet to be seen.

Under the hood, the Pad 6 is rumored to be powered by the SM8250AC+SM8475+12GB+512GB configuration.

The Xiaomi Pad 6 is expected to be launched globally later this year, and feature the Snapdragon 870 SoC on the standard Pad 6, and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC on the Pad 6 Pro.

Other features include quad speakers, 120Hz display and 120W fast charging, among others.

While we cannot confirm the accuracy of these leaks, they do provide a good idea of what the tablet could look like and what features it may include. If the tablet does make its debut at the MWC 2023 conference, we will likely have more information about it, and we can’t wait to see what Xiaomi has in store for us.

FAQ’s on Xiaomi Pad 6

1) When will the Xiaomi Pad 6 be released?

Ans) The Pad 5 first announced in China in August 2021, going on sale in the rest of the world later in early 2022.

That means it’s been more than a year since the Pad 5, and so in some ways the Pad 6 already feels overdue.

The next plausible opportunity for a launch is the MWC 2023 tradeshow at the end of February, where Xiaomi has already confirmed it will have a booth – but will it launch products too?

As with most Xiaomi products, we wouldn’t expect to see it available in the US, and if the previous generation is any guide then the Pro model may stay China-only, with only the regular Pad 6 making it overseas.

2) How much will the Xiaomi Pad 6 cost?

Ans) There’s no confirmation on an official price for the Pad 6 yet, so we need to look at how much the previous generation cost to give us some idea. Here’s the prices for the Xiaomi Pad 5:

* Xiaomi Pad 5 6GB/128GB – £369/€349/₹26,999
* Xiaomi Pad 5 6GB/256GB – €399/₹28,999

Prices are already quite competitive against the 10.2in iPad against which it directly competes.

Because of that, we’d expect to see them stay pretty much the same when the Xiaomi Pad 6 arrives.

3) What specs and features will we see in the Xiaomi Pad 6?

Ans) We’re only beginning to see the first leaks about the Pad 6 series, which is expected to include the Xiaomi Pad 6 and Pad 6 Pro.

The best information from XiaomiUi was the code hinting at both of these tablets, with the code names ‘pipa’ and ‘liuqin’ respectively.

According to the code dive, the regular Xiaomi Pad 6 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870, the natural step up from the 860 in its predecessor.

The Pad 6 Pro will be more powerful, using the flagship Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 chip.
The code details more specs here too, including a 1880×2880 120Hz AMOLED display, quad stereo speakers, and a dual rear camera setup that will apparently consist of a main camera and a depth sensor.

The two tablets will use the Snapdragon 870 and 8+ Gen 1 respectively, adding that the Pro will go as high as 12GB of RAM and 512GB storage.
He disagrees slightly on the screens though, predicting that both tablets will use similar 11in displays with a resolution of 1800×2880 – similar to that above, but not exactly the same – adding that while the Pad 6 will use a 120Hz refresh rate, the Pro will be faster at 144Hz.
Interestingly he also adds that both tablets will feature fingerprint scanners – which weren’t featured on last year’s models – and will have the same 67W wired charging.

In the Xiaomi Pad 5 review, one of the few hardware improvements we thought were necessary came in the area of connectivity. First up, there is no LTE version available, which can be a problem if you find yourself out of Wi-Fi range.
So, we’d hope for at least a 4G model on the Pad 6 if 5G capabilities are still too expensive to hit those low price points. Wi-Fi 6 would also be nice, although it’s not really that pressing as most people still don’t have compatible routers at home.
While Xiaomi offers two storage variants on the Pad 5 – 128GB and 256GB – both come with 6GB of RAM. Admittedly, this isn’t too bad, but we’d be much happier to see 8GB in the Pad 6, especially if the expected Android 12L system that’s optimised for tablets arrives this year.
