From the outside, and having a little gander at the specs, it seems that the phone has a lot to offer.

But does it live up to the expectations set by its predecessors and stand out in the competitive mid-range market?

Let’s delve into this detailed review to find out more.

OPPO Reno 10: Design and Display

The OPPO Reno 10 5G stands out with its extremely striking design, a hallmark of the series in general.

The phone’s pill-shaped camera module and layout is remarkably similar to the Reno8 Pro, though the camera protrusion is pronounced enough to cause a wobble when placed on flat surfaces.

While the colour of the camera island matches the phone’s body, its integration feels more mechanical than seamless, appearing as if it’s been attached separately.

I also found the island to have a pronounced chamfer around the island, which adds a touch of sophistication to the overall look.

The Reno 10 5G, constructed in three distinct segments, showcases a sleek and refined profile.

The front and back smoothly merge into a slender, silver middle frame.

A word of caution, though: the frame’s glossy finish, while attractive, is quite prone to collecting fingerprints.

Regular cleaning is required to maintain its pristine appearance.

Ergonomically, the Reno 10 5G is a delight.

Its 3D curved front edges significantly enhance grip and handling comfort.

The device’s lightweight nature, a mere 185 grams, is a consistent feature across the series and adds to its ergonomic appeal.

Functionality is also well-considered in the Reno 10 5G’s design.

The power button and volume controls are conveniently placed on the right side for easy access.

The bottom of the phone houses the dual Nano-SIM slot and the Type-C port.

As for audio, the Reno 10 5G doesn’t disappoint. It’s equipped with dual stereo speakers, which I’ll delve into more in the review.

The speaker grille is located at the bottom, and the earpiece doubles as a secondary speaker, contributing to an immersive audio experience.

The OPPO Reno 10 5G is a timeless piece of machinery that drips in elegance from the outside. Seriously it would not look out of place when showcased amongst some of the most premium handsets in the market.

Coming now to the visual experience, the Reno 10, boasting a large 6.7-inch curved AMOLED screen, doesn’t disappoint one bit.

OPPO asserts that the handset offers a typical brightness of around 500 nits, with the capability to reach a maximum of 800 nits across the entire screen and a peak of 950 nits.

My time using the device in the sunlight, did not produce any legibility issues.

Its resolution stands at 1080 x 2412 pixels, conforming to the common 20:9 aspect ratio and resulting in a pixel density of approximately 394 ppi.

There is perceptibly a sharpness and a visual appeal with real-life usage on the Reno 10 which makes it a treat for media consumption.

The AMOLED technology employed in the Reno 10’s panel ensures deep blacks, contributing to what is effectively an infinite contrast ratio.

An additional benefit of this display is its ability to dim to a minimum of 2.2 nits at the white point, making it comfortable for use in low-light conditions.

For content enthusiasts, the Reno 10 is well-equipped. It supports HDR10+ content, allowing users to enjoy an enhanced viewing experience on platforms like Amazon Prime Video.

While the device is capable of decoding HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG formats, it does not support Dolby Vision.

During my evaluation, watching HDR10+ shows on the Reno 10 was a particularly satisfying experience, underscoring the phone’s capabilities to deliver high-quality visual content.

The Reno 10 5G packs in substantial camera hardware.

As compared to last year, the replacement of the 2MP macro lens with a more functional 32MP Sony IMX709 telephoto lens is a much-welcome change.

This new lens supports 2x optical zoom and up to 20x digital zoom, a notable improvement for capturing detailed close-ups even with a dedicated.

The primary camera also sees an upgrade with a 64MP Omnivision OV64B sensor, though in real-world scenarios, this higher megapixel count doesn’t always translate to better performance.

In daylight, the 64MP camera captures scenic shots with adequate detail but sometimes struggles with overexposure in areas like the sky.

Additionally, there’s a tendency for overprocessing in the images.

The 32MP telephoto lens, however, stands out for its ability to retain detail at 2x optical zoom, offering a new perspective for close-ups. Beyond 2x zoom, the digital zoom leads to a loss in detail and a chalky effect in images.

The Reno 10 5G also includes an 8MP ultrawide lens, which, while not a highlight, adds versatility to the camera setup.

Selfie portraits from the device are commendable, with effective subject separation and a convincingly blurred background.

OPPO’s implementation of portrait mode technology in the Reno 10 5G shows a marked improvement over common Android issues, like handling hair and gaps under arms.

The device allows users to adjust the level of background blur, akin to changing the aperture on SLR or mirrorless cameras, adding a creative control element.

The dynamic range of the camera could be better, but the lack of autofocus doesn’t greatly impact overall usability due to a wide and forgiving focal plane.

Night photography, however, is a weak point for the Reno 10 5G.

Despite having a dedicated night mode designed to enhance low-light photography by slowing the shutter speed, the results often lack clarity and detail, appearing hazy.

Thus, for users who prioritize night photography, the Reno 10 5G may not be the ideal choice.

OPPO Reno 10: Performance, Features, and Software

OPPO Reno 10: Performance, Features, and Software
OPPO Reno 10: Performance, Features, and Software

During my hands-on experience with the OPPO Reno 10 5G, it became clear that it’s geared towards the mid-range market, primarily due to its MediaTek Dimensity 7050 processor.

This chip, essentially a renamed version of the Dimensity 1080 used in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro, positions the Reno 10 in a similar category.

While it’s not the most powerful processor out there, it impressively handles heat management.

Even under extended use, the Reno 10 remained comfortably cool, with only a 30% drop in peak performance and no noticeable stuttering or sudden performance dips.

As for gaming, the Reno 10 5G isn’t the ultimate gaming device, but it surprisingly holds up well for casual gaming sessions.

I tested it with BGMI at the highest graphics setting and was pleasantly surprised by the smooth gameplay.

There were far fewer stutters and lags than I had anticipated, though the device did warm up slightly by about 4-5 degrees.

The audio experience from the stereo speakers was decent, and the 5G speeds met my expectations.

The software experience on the Reno 10 5G is a mixed bag.

It ships with Android 13 topped with ColorOS 13.1.

As with many ColorOS iterations, it comes loaded with a slew of pre-installed apps, or ‘bloatware’, as we often call it.

The home screen feels quite crowded initially, with apps like Moj, Josh, and pre-made folders like ‘Hot Games’ and ‘Hot Apps’.

It took me some time to tidy up the interface to my liking.

However, ColorOS 13.1 does bring some nifty features to the table.

The Smart Always-On Display stood out, allowing me to control apps like Spotify and keep tabs on food delivery updates from Zomato and Swiggy without needing to unlock the device.

OPPO Reno 10: Battery

OPPO Reno 10: Battery
OPPO Reno 10: Battery

Testing the OPPO Reno 10 5G revealed its impressive battery life, thanks to the equipped 5,000mAh battery.

In my usage, the phone consistently delivered solid performance, easily handling a day’s worth of moderate to heavy usage.

On a particularly intensive day, with about 5 hours and 20 minutes of screen-on time, I noted that the battery still had 20% left.

In contrast, on days with more moderate usage, around 3 hours of screen-on time, the battery level hovered around the 60%  mark.

This variability seems typical for most smartphones.

In a more controlled environment, like our PCMark battery test, the Reno 10 lasted an impressive 17 hours.

Charging technology on the Reno 10 is quite advanced.

The phone supports up to 67W fast charging, primarily through OPPO’s SuperVOOC charging standard. In addition, it is compatible with PD3.0 (9V/2A) charging, although this is notably slower.

Based on my experience, if you’re looking to make the most of the Reno 10’s fast charging capabilities, it’s best to stick with the provided charger.

The device did charge up rapidly in about 50 minutes.

OPPO Reno 10: Final Verdict

OPPO Reno 10: Final Verdict
OPPO Reno 10: Final Verdict

My time with the device was quite eventful.

The OPPO Reno 10 5G stands out as a compelling option in the mid-range smartphone market.

It skillfully marries aesthetic appeal with functionality, presenting a device that’s not only a joy to hold and use, thanks to its sleek design and lightweight structure, but also a feast for the eyes with its expansive and vivid 6.7-inch AMOLED display, enhanced by HDR10+ support.

However, the device isn’t flawless. I found the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 processor to be sufficient for everyday tasks and casual gaming, but it might fall short for those demanding more intensive processing power.

Additionally, the pre-loaded software, cluttered with various apps, might require some time and effort to streamline for a smoother user experience.

Nevertheless, for anyone in search of a mid-range phone that shines in areas like design, display quality, and battery endurance, the Reno 10 5G presents itself as a worthy contender.

OPPO Find X7 Ultra Announced in China with Dual Periscope Cameras

Highlights

  • Dual periscope telephoto cameras with up to 6x zoom in Find X7 Ultra.
  • Primary 50MP Sony LYT-900 sensor for enhanced wide-angle shots.
  • Features Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 16GB RAM, and 512GB storage.
  • 82-inch QHD+ AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate.

OPPO has launched the Find X7 Ultra as its current flagship offering and from its specs on paper, one can say that the device has the potential to set a new benchmark in the world of smartphone photography.

The device notably features four 50MP rear cameras, including two innovative periscope lenses, positioning it as a strong contender in the high-end smartphone market.

At the heart of the Find X7 Ultra’s camera setup is the 50MP Sony 1-inch LYT-900 sensor, serving as the primary wide lens.

This sensor boasts extreme improvements over its predecessor, such as a 50 percent reduction in reflections.

Complementing this is the 50MP ultrawide sensor (Sony LYT-600), with a 1/1.95-inch unit, f/2.0 aperture, and a 14mm equivalent focal length.

However, the standout feature of the Find X7 Ultra is undoubtedly its dual periscope telephoto cameras.

The first periscope camera utilizes a 1/1.56-inch Sony IMX890 sensor with 3x zoom, while the second is equipped with a Sony IMX858 sensor, offering a 6x periscope zoom and a smooth 135mm focal range.

This dual setup marks a significant upgrade from the Find X6 Pro’s single telephoto lens.

OPPO has also introduced something called the Master Mode in the Find X7 Ultra, designed to offer a level of control akin to professional cameras like the Hasselblad X2D 100C.

This mode allows users to adjust settings such as saturation, contrast, sharpness, and vignette, enhancing the potential for professional-grade photography.

  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset in X Fold 3; Pro variant to upgrade to Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC.
  • X Fold 3 Pro expected to include 100W wired and 50W wireless charging capabilities.

The upcoming Vivo X Fold 3 and its Pro variant have been the subject of recent leaks, offering a glimpse into the specifications of these third-generation foldable smartphones.

These models are set to succeed the Vivo X Fold 2 from last year, and the leaks, originating from the well-known tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, shed light on some key differences and advancements in the series.

Here’s what you should know.

Vivo X Fold 3 Series: Expected Specs

Vivo X Fold 3 and Fold 3 Pro Leaked Specs
Vivo X Fold 3 and Fold 3 Pro Leaked Specs by Digital Chat Station on Weibo

The Vivo X Fold 3 Pro is reported to feature a triple rear camera setup, headlined by a 50MP primary lens equipped with OIS.

This lens is likely to be a Sony LYT 900 sensor, a choice that Vivo seems to be replicating in its upcoming Vivo X100 Pro+ smartphone.

In terms of processing power, the Vivo X Fold 3 is expected to house the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.

Its Pro counterpart, however, is slated to take a leap forward with the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, positioning it at the forefront of processing capabilities in the foldable market.

The camera system on the X Fold 3 Pro is anticipated to include a 50MP main camera with OIS, an ultra-wide lens, and a unique periscope telephoto camera – possibly the 64MP OV64B.

In contrast, the standard X Fold 3 might not include this periscope telephoto lens, as indicated by the absence of such a feature in the engineering prototype.

Differences extend beyond the camera and processor.

The X Fold 3 reportedly will not include an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner and 50W wireless charging, features expected in the Pro model.

Meanwhile the Pro variant is rumoured to boast an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor integrated not only into its outer display but also its inner foldable screen.

While the battery capacity of the Pro remains under wraps, it is anticipated to support both 100W wired and 50W wireless charging.

The Pro model’s inner LTPO panel is set to support a 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, a significant upgrade.

Details about the non-Pro model’s display specifications, however, remain elusive.

The devices will of course first be announced in the Chinese market and will then likely be revealed for global markets, if at all.

  • Enhanced design with flat edges, punch-hole cameras, and S Pen support for the Ultra model.
  • Expected Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Exynos 2400 SoC powering the devices.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 series is set to make its grand debut in India and on the global stage on January 17th, with the launch scheduled for 11:30 PM IST.

As per usual, leaks and rumours have dominated the handsets ahead of launch and from what we can make out, this flagship series has all the right ingredients to elevate Samsung’s smartphone lineup.

What we know for sure is that the series, consisting of the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra, is expected to bring a blend of sophisticated design and cutting-edge technology.

Here’s what you should know about the devices before they land on the Indian shore.

Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra: Expected Features and Design

Design-wise, the Galaxy S24 series seems to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor, the S23 lineup, but with some notable enhancements.

All models feature a centrally-placed punch-hole camera, flat edges, and slim bezels, presenting a sleek and modern aesthetic.

The standard S24 and S24+ models are going to be designed with rounded edges, while the S24 Ultra boasts sharp edges and a rumoured titanium chassis, setting it apart as the premium offering.

The S24 and S24+ will feature a triple camera setup on the back, each lens distinctively placed without borders, while the Ultra model ramps up the photography game with a quad-camera array and LED flash.

All three models will sport the familiar Samsung logo on their backs, along with a USB Type-C port, speaker grills, and microphone at the bottom.

Unique to the Ultra variant is the inclusion of S Pen support, a nod to productivity enthusiasts.

Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra: Expected Performance

Under the hood, the Galaxy S24 series is rumoured to be powered by the Exynos 2400 SoC globally, with some models in India possibly featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC.

This hardware shift hints at tailored performance optimisation for different markets.

The series has already made its mark on several certification platforms, including FCC, NBTC, China 3C, and India’s BIS, confirming its imminent arrival.

Display specifications suggest the Galaxy S24 will boast a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the S24+ could step up with a 6.7-inch QHD+ sAMOLED screen.

The Ultra model is expected to top the range with a 6.8-inch QHD+ display, offering a variable 120Hz refresh rate.

Camera setups across the series are expected to be impressive, with the S24 and S24+ featuring dual 50MP cameras and the Ultra model potentially including a groundbreaking 200MP primary sensor.

In terms of software, the series will run on an Android 14-based One UI 6.0 custom skin, ensuring a smooth and intuitive user experience.

The teaser campaigns hinting at ‘Galaxy AI’ suggest the inclusion of generative AI features, possibly offering advanced on-device AI capabilities.

The colour palette for the series is expected to be diverse, with options like Onyx Black, Cobalt Violet, Marble Gray, and Amber Yellow, adding a touch of personal style to the high-tech offerings.

As for pricing, the Galaxy S24 is tipped to start at around EUR 899, the S24+ at EUR 1,149, and the Ultra model could begin at EUR 1,449, reflecting their varying features and capabilities.

What is quite surprising is that the Galaxy S24 and S24+ pricing is lower than what the S23 and S23+ were initially priced last year.

Perhaps the same is likely to occur for the Indian pricing as well.

However, with the much more increased hardware, the S24 Ultra is likely to be priced at a much higher rate than the S23 Ultra was last year.

We will know more when the devices are announced.

Ahead of the launch, Samsung has opened pre-orders with a #Next Galaxy VIP Pass at Rs 1,999, fully refundable for those who might change their minds, and is offering benefits worth Rs 5,000, which is more than adding excitement and anticipation surrounding the Galaxy S24 series.
