MSI Unveils AI-Powered Laptops, Claw Gaming Handheld, and More at CES 2024

MSI has announced, at CES 2024, a new lineup of AI-powered laptops equipped with Intel Core Ultra processors featuring built-in Neural Processing Units.

Alongside, MSI introduced ‘Claw,’ a gaming handheld device powered by the same Intel processor.

The brand also unveiled 18-inch laptops with Intel 14th Gen HX-series processors, large vapor chamber thermal modules, and RTX 40 series graphics.

14th-gen Intel and Core Ultra MSI Laptops

MSI’s latest laptops are powered by Intel Core Ultra processors, which are specifically tailored for AI-centric tasks.

I used the device for a while and these are my first impressions that briefly highlight the phone’s potential in the budget segment.

The display’s colour reproduction and brightness, in my opinion, cater well to its target audience.

Moreover, the IPX2 splash-resistant feature is a thoughtful addition, providing a layer of durability for daily use even though the phone has an entry-level price tag.

In the camera department, the Tecno POP 8 is equipped for basic photography needs.

It features a 12MP AI rear camera setup and an 8MP AI-powered selfie camera, focusing on capturing everyday moments with simplicity.

The cameras are said to perform adequately in various lighting conditions, thanks to AI enhancements.

My initial testing was not the most promising but it is hard to fault a device that positions itself at such a budget pricepoint.

Under the hood, the Tecno POP 8 is powered by a Unisoc T606 processor, paired with HiOS 13.0 based on Android 13-Go.

This combination, on initial usage, delivers decently smooth performance for routine tasks like browsing, social media, and basic gaming.

The available 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM configurations aren’t anything out of the ordinary and suggest that the phone can handle basic multitasking and storage needs without too much hassle.

Of course, all of these are just my initial impressions of the performance.

The 5000mAh battery is in line with what most OEMs, even in the realm of entry-level offerings provide but the device’s ability to last for more than a day is being marketed as its standout feature.

The inclusion of a Type C 10W charger wins the handset brownie points in my book and is a nod to contemporary charging standards, offering a decent balance between charging speed and battery longevity.
