Realme Narzo 60 5G – Unboxing

Realme Narzo 60 arrives in a turquoise colour standard Realme retail packaging with Narzo 60 series branding prominent on the top.
With a bunch of key specifications printed on the back, the retail box has the bare minimum information about the features of the product inside.

As you open the box of the Realme Narzo 60 6G, you will find a paper box with a bunch of useful items inside. Keeping the paper box aside for a minute, the next thing you’ll see is the smartphone itself, the Realme Narzo 60.

At first glance, it looks very similar to another Realme product launched last month, Realme 11 Pro. But we will discuss more about the design in our next section.

Coming back to the contents of the paper box, to help you insert your SIM card easily, there is a SIM Ejector Pin included in the box. It’s a small tool tucked in a paper card that you can use to pop out the SIM card tray.

We appreciate when brands pay attention to the immediate usage needs of the user and Realme clearly cares about the protection of your new phone.

So, like a standard practice in all Realme smartphones now, they have included a transparent soft case in the box. You can immediately put this case on your phone to protect it from scratches and minor bumps.

For those who like to explore their new device and learn about its features, there is a Realme Quick Guide included with all the essential information to get started with your Narzo 60 smartphone.
You will find a Realme Safety Guide. This guide contains important safety instructions and precautions that you should follow while using your phone.

Beneath all that, you’ll notice the most useful 33W SuperVOOC Charger. This charger is super fast and will charge your phone quickly, saving you a lot of time.

Realme Narzo 60 5G – Design and Build Quality

Realme Narzo 60 5G - Design
Realme Narzo 60 5G – Design
  • Premium vegan leather design (Mars Orange variant)
  • Lightweight and easy to handle with 7.98mm thickness and 183g weight
  • Ultra-tough Corning Gorilla Glass 5 Protection – withstand drops from 1.2 meters
  • Anti-ageing material used with a scratch-resistant back panel (Mars Orange variant)

For this review, we had the Mars Orange colour variant, which we believe looks very different from the other Cosmic Black variant. So, this design analysis is based on the Mars Orange colour variant only.

The design of the Realme Narzo 60 will remind of you another Realme phone you may have recently seen. It features a premium vegan leather design that gives although gives a luxurious and high-end feel at first, but, it loses the premium-ness feel because of the boxy body.

The back does feel like a flagship-level smartphone but when you take it in hand, the design is extremely basic with sharp edges and a not-so-good quality metallic frame.

Realme Narzo 60 5G - Design
Realme Narzo 60 5G Build Quality

Though we are glad the phone is not too heavy. In fact, the best thing about the design of this phone is has a lightweight and easy-to-handle design.
It’s only 7.98mm thick and weighs just 183g, making it comfortable to hold and carry around without feeling bulky or heavy.

To ensure durability, the Narzo 60 is equipped with ultra-tough Corning Gorilla Glass 5 Protection.

This means that it can withstand accidental drops from a height of 1.2 meters without shattering or getting damaged easily (as per the brand’s claim in the marketing materials). So, you can have peace of mind knowing that your phone is well-protected.

Coming back to the back panel of the phone. The back panel of the Mars Orange variant is made of an anti-ageing material that resists scratches. This ensures that your phone will maintain its back panel appearance even after regular use.

Realme Narzo 60 5G Build Quality
Realme Narzo 60 5G Display

It has a big rounded camera house, very similar to Realme 11 Pro, that takes up almost the upper portion of the back panel. You also get “Narzo Designed by Realme” printed at the back as a reminder.

Overall, the design of Realme Narzo 60 has some hits and misses. Its premium vegan leather design exudes a flagship-level premium feel but the frame and boxy design doesn’t add to the overall premium-ness.

However, it’s lightweight, easy to handle, and comes with robust protection features like Gorilla Glass 5 and a scratch-resistant back panel, ensuring both style and durability.

Realme Narzo 60 5G – Display and Multimedia Experience

Realme Narzo 60 5G - Display and Multimedia Experience
Realme Narzo 60 5G – Multimedia Experience
  • 43-inch Super AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate, 1000 nits peak brightness, 1000Hz touch sampling rate and 1080×2400 FH+ Resolution ratio
  • 3D In-Display fingerprint scanner, Instant unlock in 0.55 seconds
  • TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light Certification for superior eye protection

The display of the Realme Narzo 60 is definitely impressive. It features a large 6.43-inch Super AMOLED display that delivers vibrant and lifelike colours, making your screen look stunning.

With a 90Hz refresh rate, the display offers smooth and fluid scrolling and animations, resulting in a more immersive and enjoyable experience.
It makes everything feel super responsive. The display also boasts a peak brightness of 1000 nits.

We tried to use the phone and stream some content in direct sunlight to test the brightness. And we must say it does ensure decent visibility.
So, you can actually use this phone outdoors without any visibility issues.

The touch sampling rate of 1000Hz means that the screen responds quickly and accurately to your touch, providing a seamless and precise touch experience.

We streamed content on some leading streaming platforms and watched YouTube videos as well to test the performance of the display.
Check out below what streaming YouTube videos on Realme Narzo 60 looks like. You get the maximum picture quality of 1080p on YouTube.

With an FH+ resolution ratio of 1080×2400, the display is actually sharper and more detailed than we expected. It makes everything appear crisp and clear. Whether you’re watching videos, playing games, or browsing the web, the viewing experience is great.

Though we wish the bezels and chin size were not so prominent. The chin doesn’t seem at first glance, however when streaming content, the huge chin sizes hamper the whole viewing experience.

Nevertheless, Narzo 60 also comes with 20,000-level intelligent dimming, which adjusts the brightness levels according to the surrounding environment, providing optimal viewing comfort and saving battery life.

The 4,000,000:1 contrast ratio delivers deep blacks and bright whites, resulting in rich and vibrant visuals with excellent colour contrast.

Realme Narzo 60 5G - Multimedia Experience
Realme Narzo 60 5G – Multimedia Experience

For superior eye protection, the display has received TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light Certification. This means that it emits less harmful blue light, reducing eye strain and providing a more comfortable viewing experience, especially during extended usage.

Additionally, the phone features a 3D in-display fingerprint scanner. We tried the scanner and it was smooth. It is instant and secure.

During our testing period, we checked that it unlocks the phone in just 0.55 seconds. This makes it a highly convenient and fast way to access your phone.

All in all, the Realme Narzo 60 offers a fantastic display experience with its Super AMOLED panel, high refresh rate, bright and vibrant visuals, precise touch response, and advanced features like intelligent dimming and eye protection certification.

It’s a display that delivers both visual delight and user convenience.

Realme Narzo 60 5G – Hardware, Software and Performance

Realme Narzo 60 5G – Hardware
  • MediaTek Dimensity 6020 5G Chipset – 7nm process, 2.2Ghz CPU, A76 core
  • 8 GB RAM and 128 GB/ 256 GB Internal storage
  • Realme UI 4.0 Based on Android 13

During the Narzo 60 launch event, the brand announced its collaboration with MediaTek and thus, both phones in the Narzo 60 series are equipped with efficient MediaTek processors. The Realme Narzo 60 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6020 5G chipset, which is built on a 7nm process.

This chipset is known for providing excellent efficiency and performance. The CPU runs at a speed of 2.2 GHz and features A76 cores, which means it can handle demanding tasks with ease.

With 8 GB of RAM, the Narzo 60 offers ample memory for multitasking and running multiple apps simultaneously. In terms of storage, the phone offers two options: 128 GB and 256 GB of internal storage.

This provides you with plenty of space to store your files, photos, videos, and apps. Additionally, the memory is expandable up to a massive 1TB, allowing you to add even more storage if needed.

We did experience a completely lag-free and seamless user experience while using the phone, even when we had several apps open in the background.

To further test the powerful hardware and smartphone efficiency, we conducted several benchmark tests on the device.

While the device got an AnTuTu score of approximately 40,0000, the storage test showed a Read Speed of about 1045.0 MB per second and a Write Speed of about 541.7 MB per second.

The Geekbench 6 CPU Benchmark results came as 721 for single-core and 1864 for multi-core. The Geekbench 6 GPU Benchmark test, on the hand, gave a GPU OpenCL score of 1253.

We also performed the Wile Life test, the result of which is shared in the below screenshots.

The Realme Narzo 60 runs on Realme UI 4.0, which is based on Android 13. This user interface provides a clean and intuitive user experience, with a range of customization options to personalize your device according to your preferences. It overall offers a user-friendly interface and smooth navigation.

However, our lifelong complaints with Realme stand right where we left them the last time we reviewed a Realme smartphone. Now, we understand why the brand has to tie up with third-party apps for economic reasons.

It is one of the reasons why Realme is able to offer competitive pricing to its consumers. However, we have to wonder how many third-party apps pre-installed are actually too many.

Because at the end of the day, when you market your phone as “premium,” a clean UI is what most customers expect in 2023.

Fortunately, you can delete most of the pre-installed apps, but it is still a hassle for any user and hampers the new device user experience.

Moving forward, when it comes to performance, the combination of a decent chipset, ample RAM, and efficient software ensures that the Narzo 60 delivers excellent performance across various tasks.

Having said that, heavy gaming on this device would not give you a smooth experience. We tried playing some of the popular games such as Genshin Impact or BGMI, but the device isn’t programmed to handle them for too long.

The screens were dropping and the phone also heats up quickly. So, if you are a gaming enthusiast, we will not recommend Narzo 60 to you.

However, if you are a regular smartphone user, performance shouldn’t be an issue during everyday tasks. Whether you’re browsing the web, scrolling through social media or running multiple apps, you can expect a fast and responsive experience.

Realme Narzo 60 5G – Camera Performance

Realme Narzo 60 5G - Camera Performance
Realme Narzo 60 5G – Camera Performance
  • Dual Camera setup – 64MP Main + 2 PM Depth Sensor
  • 16-megapixel selfie camera
  • Video Recording – 1920×1080 @ 30 fps, 1280×720 @ 30 fps

The camera performance of the Realme Narzo 60 is decent. It offers a range of features that allow you to capture photos and videos in different modes.

The phone features a dual camera setup on the rear, which includes a 64MP primary camera and a 2MP depth sensor.

The 64MP main camera utilizes flagship HyperShot Imaging technology that promises to deliver exceptional image quality with sharp details and vibrant colours. It also offers 2x optical zoom, allowing you to get closer to your subject without sacrificing image quality.

Although we have to say, we did miss an ultra-wide lens, which is something missing from both Narzo 60 series smartphones.

For selfies, the Narzo 60 is equipped with a 16-megapixel front camera. This selfie camera performance is satisfactory. It captures clear and detailed self-portraits, ensuring you look your best in the photos.

However, the quality of images mainly depends on lighting conditions. While it does take clear and crisp shots in direct sunlight, the quality of shots indoors isn’t that great.

We tried all three, dual rear cameras and single front cameras thoroughly to test the quality of pictures that come out.

The performance of the entire camera system of Realme Narzo 60 is heavily dependent on the lighting you can get. The night mode in well-lit streets does take clear pictures, the haze and noise in images sometimes distort the subject of your shots.

Below is a slide show of images taken from Narzo 60 in different angles and lighting conditions using both rear lenses –

The camera system includes various features to enhance your photography experience. The Dynamic Image Snapshot feature captures moving subjects in a single frame, allowing you to freeze action-packed moments with ease.
This can be seen in the moving vehicle image above.

The Auto Zoom feature automatically adjusts the zoom level based on the subject, ensuring that your photos are perfectly framed.

The Streat Mode 4.0 feature, as mentioned above, is for capturing stunning night-time shots. And somewhat improves low-light performance to a bit, resulting in a little brighter photos.

If you are a social media enthusiast, you will enjoy the multiple filters to add creative effects to your photos.
You can choose from filters like Crisp, Cinematic, Tranquil and more. These allow you to add different moods and styles to your images.

In terms of video recording, the phone supports 1920×1080 resolution at 30 fps and 1280×720 resolution at 30 fps. This ensures smooth and high-quality video capture, allowing you to record memorable moments with clarity.

Here are a couple of videos shot in both daylight and nightlight that can give you a clearer idea.

Overall, the Realme Narzo 60 delivers a decent camera performance. It is nothing extraordinary but it can be your comparison for regular camera usage.

With the dual camera setup, flagship HyperShot Imaging technology, and various features like Dynamic Image Snapshot, Auto Zoom, and Streat Mode 4.0, this phone provides you with the tools to capture impressive visuals and create memorable content.

Realme Narzo 60 5G – Battery Life and Connectivity

Realme Narzo 60 5G – Battery Life
  • 5000mAh battery
  • 33W SuperVOOC Charge – takes the charge from 0 per cent to 50 per cent in 29 minutes

The Realme Narzo 60 has an optimum battery configuration, thanks to its large 5000mAh battery capacity. This substantial battery ensures that you have enough power to get through your day without worrying about frequent recharging.

To further enhance the charging experience, the Narzo 60 supports 33W SuperVOOC Charge technology. This means that you can quickly replenish your battery levels in no time.

As per the brand’s claim, in just 29 minutes, the SuperVOOC Charge can take your battery from 0 per cent to 50 per cent. We tested this by first draining the battery to 5 per cent and although it took us around just 35 minutes to reach 50 per cent.

Realme Narzo 60 5G
Realme Narzo 60 5G Adapter

Although this is significantly higher than what the brand is claiming these claims are usually based on ideal circumstances.
In any case, that in itself is a great time and it allows you to get a significant boost in a short period.

The fast charging capability of the Realme Narzo 60 is a real advantage, as it saves you valuable time and ensures that you spend less time waiting for your phone to charge.
It’s especially useful when you’re in a rush or have limited time to charge your device.

Verdict

Realme Narzo 60 5G
Realme Narzo 60

Overall, the Realme Narzo 60 is a decent smartphone that offers a range of attractive features. Its premium vegan leather design, lightweight build and durable Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection give it both style and sturdiness.

The display is vibrant and smooth. Though huge bezels and chin size are a turn-off. The MediaTek Dimensity 6020 5G chipset used in the device has a good record and when combined with 8 GB RAM, it does ensure reliable performance.

The camera setup, featuring a 64MP main camera and 16MP selfie camera, captures decent quality photos, and the 33W SuperVOOC Charge allows for quick battery replenishment.

Now all this when looked at from the price point can seem a bit underwhelming. This is more is Realme’s case because they have better smartphones already floating in the segment.

It does feel a bit expensive considering the segment it wants to enter. Although, in terms of design, display, hardware, software, camera, and battery performance, it is a decent choice for users seeking a reliable smartphone for everyday usage.
