Oppo Enco Air 2 Pro Review: Perfect for its price with impressive features and sound output

0
Oppo Enco Air 2 Pro-Feature

While it’s already a name to reckon with in the smartphone category with a number of successful series at different price points, Oppo is increasingly making its presence felt in the personal audio segment too. In one such move to expand its TWS portfolio, Oppo recently launched Enco Air 2 Pro alongside the Oppo F21 Pro series smartphones in India. Priced affordably at Rs 3,499, the Oppo Enco Air 2 Pro comes packed with some of the latest features, such as Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), 12.4mm drivers, powerful bass and more. We used this TWS offering for a while, exploring everything that it has to offer, and here’s what we experienced and felt about this device so far.

Design and Build

The Oppo Enco Air 2 Pro comes in White and Gray colour options, and we had the former for review, which looks beautiful and stands out from the crowd, as a majority of true wireless earbuds in the market offer similar designs. The all-new earbuds feature a flat pebble-shaped charging case, having a translucent design that gives it a distinctive look. There’s an LED battery indicator on the front, and the Oppo branding on the back of the charging case. At the bottom, you get a USB-C port to charge the device.

The case is lightweight and made of a good quality plastic which do not attract smudges. It features a compact design and a diagonal structure, making room for the large earbuds. The case offers a perfect grip in your palm and can easily slip into your jeans pocket without really protruding too much.

Coming to the earbuds, they are quite comfortable and fit perfectly in your ear canal. The earbuds are designed in such a way that they stay in your ears at all times, and you do not need to worry about them falling off too easily. You’ll not experience any sort of fatigue or irritation even after wearing the earbuds for some hours at a stretch. You get two extra pair of silicone ear tips (in the box) which are quite skin-friendly and made for different ear sizes. As for protection, the earbuds boast IP54 certification that makes them resistant to dust, water and sweat to a great extent, so you do not need to worry about the extreme weather conditions.

Oppo Enco Air 2 Pro-Inside

Features, Functionalities and Performance

The Oppo Enco Air 2 Pro uses Bluetooth 5.2 with support for the SBC and AAC Bluetooth codecs, and seamlessly get paired with your phone. There weren’t any issues with my iPhone 11 and iQOO Z5. The earbuds offer touch controls which worked well for me. Besides, you may download the HeyMelody app (available for Android and iOS) that can be used to customise controls and configure other settings, however I didn’t use the app too much.

The simple gestures and tapping on the earbuds can take all your commands – it allows you to control playback, summon the default voice assistant on your handset, cycle through ANC and hear-through modes, activate game mode, switch between the two most recently paired devices, and adjust the volume. This suppleness will allow you to control your listening experience without having to access your phone too frequently. The smart in-ear detection – which stops the media as soon as you remove one of the earbuds – is definitely one of the interesting features that you’ll fall in love with. The Oppo Enco Air 2 Pro can also be used to control your phone’s camera provided you have an Oppo smartphone running ColorOS 11.3 or later. This definitely is an outstanding feature in the given price segment.

When we talk about its performance, you cannot ignore the fact that the earbuds come with 12.4mm drivers, which deliver really commendable sound quality. From listening to music to watching movies, we experienced clarity of sound on this pair of earbuds – there’s a right amount of instrument separation, and the treble levels are on point along with punchy bass. There are no issues with highs and lows.

The earpieces have a frequency response range of 20-20,000Hz, besides offering you dual-mic AI-based environmental noise cancellation that offers you better audio on calls, even in noisy surroundings or crowded places. The earbuds are also good for gaming owing to 94ms low-latency transmission (especially with the help of HeyMelody app). Taken as a whole, the Oppo Enco Air 2 Pro is one of the best sounding earbuds under Rs 4,000.

Battery

Battery happens to be one of the most important factors for a TWS device, and like every brand, Oppo too has worked in this department. On paper, the Oppo Enco Air 2 Pro claims to offer 7 hours of continuous music playback and an additional 28 hours with the battery case. In reality too, these claims are approximately true as we got around 6 hours of battery life on a single charge. Besides, it claims to offer 2 hours of playback with just 10 minutes of charging. Even this was nearly precise. It takes nearly 2 hours to charge the case, including earbuds, which is perfectly fine. Overall, the battery life is pretty decent and justifies the price of the device, although there are minor shortcomings in this department.

Conclusion

The Oppo Enco Air 2 Pro will give you a premium feel, from its charging case to the earbuds that offer a snug-fit design. The white colour option is particularly more appealing and soothing to the eyes. It’s very easy to use despite having new smart technologies incorporated into it such as in-ear detection, ANC, AI-based ENC, app support, customisable touch controls, etc. The overall audio output is really praiseworthy with right amount of treble and bass, besides offering you a sufficient battery life. It has almost everything that you would require in a TWS device; however you cannot ignore the tough competition from the likes of boAt, Noise, JBL, to name a few, in the sub-4,000 segment.

Apple is set to unveil the future of innovation with various launches expected to launch at the WWDC 2022. From the latest software to hardware, the event is going to flash everything that Apple has been working on. Here’s what you can expect to see live today:

iOS 16

iOS 16 is the most rumoured and anticipated upcoming software update of iOS. The rumours have been vague about this upcoming update so we can say that we do know what to expect from iOS 16. The upcoming version is expected to introduce key changes. According to previous reports by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, while iOS 16 might not be a visual overhaul, it will bring some key additions. Following are the key updates we can expect from it:

  •  Always On Display for the iPhone 13 and the future iPhone 14 series

The AOD (Always on Display) is rumoured to come for the upcoming iPhone 14 series. The feature simply means users can look at the display for select notifications including time or messages without being concerned about the battery life. The Always On Display functionality is one of the key features of some Android devices like OnePlus, Xiaomi, Samsung and others.

  • More customisation possibilities

Apple might also come with more customisation options for the Lock Screen, including wallpapers with widget-like capabilities, according to the same report.

  • New additions to messages

Apple is also expected to add new features to Messages to make it more like a social network. Exactly how this will take place is unclear, though there’s talk of improvements to the audio messages feature.

  • Upgrades for Health

Apple iOS 16 will also bring new features to the Health app. This time it also includes more advanced sleep-tracking with pill management tools.

One significant thing to take care of is that Apple is only going to give a preview of iOS 16 at the event, followed by a beta build for developers. The final version will not be made public till the new iPhones don’t hit the market, i.e. September. However, the users will surely get a beta version available a month after the release of the developer beta, which they can try out.

iPadOS 16

Just like the iPhones, Apple is also expected to come with dedicated features for iPadOS. Some of the rumoured features include more advanced multitasking support with the ability to run more than two apps simultaneously. Reportedly, iPadOS 16 new interface will make it “easier to see what apps are open and switch between tasks,” and it will also let “users resize app windows and offer new ways for users to handle multiple apps at once.”

Apple WWDC 2022: What to expect?

The update will feature a redesigned multitasking interface that makes it easier to swap between tasks and see which apps are open, plus it will allow users to resize windows. Apple also plans to implement new ways for users to deal with multiple apps simultaneously, in what sounds like a much more Mac-like multitasking experience.

WatchOS 9

There are no exceptional changes expected when it comes to the designing overhaul of watchOS 9, but it will include some fun watch faces and apps this time. It is also rumoured that Apple might add some new fitness tracking features on this upcoming device. Also, it is expected that these new features are only going to be available or limited to the latest watch versions like the upcoming Apple Watch Series 8. Reportedly, Apple might as well introduce a body temperature sensor on the watch.

The new watchOS could also get support for more advanced sleep tracking, similar to the iPhone. A new low-power mode will also be coming to the Watch, which will presumably support more features than the existing low-power mode. The current version only shows the time.

macOS

Apple’s macOS 13 is also expected to get some fresh features. It might also come with a more advanced Settings app, similar to the one that functions on Apple’s iOS devices. But there have been very reports talking about macOS, so this is one area where Apple could perhaps leave everyone surprised.

Apple WWDC 2022: Expected hardware announcements

Since WWDC is all about software development and introduction, hardware is generally not expected here. However, the last WWDC 2020 witnessed the brand’s plan to shift to its own silicon for Macs, though the devices only launched later in the year with the M1 series. Now, Apple’s transition to the new M-series processors is nearly complete, so this is one question mark Apple will unveil any new hardware at WWDC 2022?

The information is still unknown, but we have hopes to see the new MacBook Air making an appearance with an M2 processor at the event. Maybe we can also expect a new Mac Pro as well. Who knows, it could be a surprise that only the event is going to unveil.

Apple WWDC 2002: realityOS and that Mixed Reality headset?

Now, this could be the showstopper of the event! Apple’s long-rumoured reality headset might not be revealed at the WWDC 2022, however, the company is expected to talk about the upcoming device. We can expect some information about its realityOS, which will power this entire experience. Reports from Bloomberg have said Apple’s board has seen the headset, a sign it is nearly ready. The latest report from the New York Times states Apple has roped in Iron Man director Jon Favreau for creating content for the headset. Favreau is also an executive producer of “Prehistoric Planet” on Apple TV+, and he will bring the “show’s dinosaurs to life on the headset,” according to the report. It also notes that the headset looks like a “pair of ski goggles”, with both AR and VR experiences offered. The report notes the headset will not be ready to ship till next year.

Apple WWDC 2022: Where and how to watch Livestream, at what time?

Apple’s WWDC 2022 live stream will start at 10.30 pm IST. Users can simply go to Apple’s website on their iPhone, iPad, Mac or tvOS devices. Also, the event is going to be available on Apple’s YouTube channel live. Apple’s keynotes typically are two hours long at such events, and we expect something similar for WWDC.
