YouTube is experimenting with a redesigned ‘Skip Ads’ button to hinder easy ad skipping.
YouTube has been actively combating ad-blocking efforts by users.
YouTube is adopting various strategies, including this new button design, to boost ad engagement.
If you’ve ever found YouTube video adsirksome, brace yourself for potential frustration as an inconspicuous update from YouTube could soon intensify your feelings.
The number of ads preceding videos is a familiar annoyance for non-YouTube Premium users.
Although some ads are skippable after a 5 to 10-second preview, YouTube is altering the appearance of the skip button to harmonize with the background, aiming to extend ad view time.
Over the past several months, YouTube has been dedicated to enhancing its advertising revenue, a drive evident in its recent modifications.
An effort to thwart ad-blockers emerged, preventing users who block ads from viewing content.
Furthering their campaign, YouTube is now modifying the design of the ‘Skip Ad’ button to make skipping ads more challenging.
‘Skip Ads’ Button
Reports confirm that YouTube is actively engaged in redesigning the skip ads button. The impending changes involve downsizing the skip button itself, employing smaller text, eliminating capitalization in the word ‘Ads,’ and increasing its transparency.
These subtleties collectively contribute to making the button inconspicuous, effectively prolonging users’ exposure to advertisements and consequently boosting YouTube’s ad earnings.
Curious about how the updated skip ads button might appear? Take a glimpse at this potential iteration, giving you an idea of its compact nature.
“We’re testing an update to the design of the ‘Skip Ads’ button across all platforms. Our goal is to provide a more consistent user experience in line with the updated look and feel on YouTube we announced last year,” said YouTube in its statement about the ‘improved’ Skip Ads button.
Youtube Ads
Labeled as an ‘improved’ skip ads button, this innovation is poised to become a triumph for YouTube. It is set to elevate the platform’s ad viewing metrics, expand its outreach, and drive higher conversions.
Consequently, this advancement will amplify the platform’s overall earnings, significantly piquing advertisers’ interest in the process.
“Spotted this really small ‘Skip ads’ button, seems like Google is testing this new button. It has a new format and is way smaller than the normal ‘skip’ box.
If this gets rolled out, it will affect the view rate and the spend of the campaigns,” said Google Ads expert Thomas Eccel.
While Google is most-definitely testing the smaller skip ads button, we cannot be certain that the featurewill roll out to the public soon, but when it does, it will surely spark a reaction.
YouTube’s Stance Against Ad Blocking: Protecting Their Platform’s Integrity
YouTube’s Stance Against Ad Blocking
YouTube is taking a firm stand against ad-blocking practices, viewing them as a direct threat to their platform’s core functioning.
In the preceding year, YouTube pursued legal avenues to quash YouTube Vanced, an unofficial Android app designed to circumvent ads while streaming YouTube videos.
Issuing a formal cease-and-desist order, the company swiftly moved to shut down the Vanced Project.
Following the decisive action against Vanced, YouTube shifted its strategy by promoting the Family Premium Plan, a move aimed at enticing more users to embrace paid subscriptions.
YouTube Premium
Under referral initiatives, YouTube began offering an attractive incentive of 12 months of free YouTube Premium. This approach garnered significant attention across social media platforms.
One notable realization was that the Family Plan’s cost was merely one-fifth of the individual subscription price, when calculated on a per-person basis.
Nonetheless, it is crucial for users to diligently adhere to YouTube’s terms and conditions when enrolling in the Family Plan.
Failure to comply could lead to the unfortunate consequence of having their Premium subscription revoked.

Redmi K60 Ultra sets a new benchmark with its extensive software support.
Inclusion in the MIUI 15 upgrade’s initial wave enhances the device’s appeal.
Expected global release as Xiaomi 13T Pro adds to anticipation.
Traditionally recognized for their hardware prowess, Android devices often fall short when it comes to prolonged software updates.
Except for Google Pixel and select Samsung Galaxy units, extended software support remains a rarity within the Android ecosystem.
Breaking the mold, Xiaomiseems poised to step into this league, as evident from their recent announcement regarding the Redmi K60 Ultra’s extensive software support.
What’s the Extent of Redmi K60 Ultra’s Software updates?
Redmi K60 Ultra’s Software Updates
Redmi took to its official Weibo account to address this question.
It was disclosed that the Redmi K60 Ultra will be entitled to at least four significant Android OS upgrades alongside a five-year span of security patch updates.
This mirrors the software support timeline offered by Samsung for its chosen Galaxy devices.
Having debuted in China with MIUI 14 based on Android 13, the Redmi K60 Ultra is now slated for upgrades up to Android 17.
This departure is notable since Xiaomi and Redmi phones have a history of receiving MIUI updates over the years, but substantive Android OS updates have been infrequent.
Hence, it’s possible to encounter a device with a newer MIUI version but not the corresponding Android OS iteration.
Redmi K60 Ultra’s
The supplementary year of security patches is an appreciable inclusion. This implies that although major OS upgrades will cease by 2027, users can still expect security enhancements for an additional year.
This news is particularly heartening for those who prefer to extend their device’s lifespan until it’s absolutely necessary to upgrade.
Moreover, the same Weibo post reveals that the Redmi K60 Ultra will be part of the initial cohort to receive the MIUI 15 upgrade. While the new MIUI version is presently undergoing internal testing, an alpha build has been identified on Xiaomi’s server.
Redmi K60 Ultra’s International Debut
Although the present announcement pertains solely to the Redmi K60 Ultra, it could potentially herald a new era.
It’s conceivable that Xiaomi and Redmi might extend prolonged software support to other devices as well.
Nevertheless, the scope of this extension – whether limited to Chinese launches or encompassing global offerings – remains to be seen.
As rumors circulate about the Redmi K60 Ultra’s international debut as the Xiaomi 13T Pro, excitement continues to mount.
Set to coincide with the Xiaomi 13T’s launch on September 1, both models are anticipated to share striking similarities while featuring a few distinct deviations.

Ans) The global release is expected alongside Xiaomi 13T on September 1.
Ques) Is Xiaomi’s trying to catch up to Samsung’s firmware update policy?
Ans) Samsung’s been winning at the firmware update game for some years now.
Not even Google can match the company’s firmware policy, but some rival OEMs have been trying to catch up.
Xiaomi, or at least one of its subsidiaries, is among them.
This month, Xiaomi and its subsidiary, Redmi, announced a couple of new devices, including the MIX Fold 3 foldable phone and the Redmi K60 Extreme Edition, respectively.
Neither seems to be coming to the global market, but for K60 customers in China, Xiaomi’s Redmi had a bit of a surprise.
The Xiaomi subsidiary announced that the Redmi K60 Extreme Edition will get four major Android OS upgrades and five years’ worth of security patches .
K60 should enjoy a similar firmware update policy as the majority of Samsung Galaxy devices.
Ques) How well will Xiaomi compete with Samsung ?
Ans) Offering four OS upgrades and support for a total of five years is a step in the right direction for Xiaomi’s subsidiary. Nevertheless, only time will tell if Xiaomi and/or Redmi will enforce this new policy as well as Samsung did over the past few years.
It’s unclear if this policy will apply to Xiaomi phones sold globally or if it’s bound to China.
Redmi is definitely on the right track to offer more consumer-friendly devices that can be used, in theory, for half a decade without needing a replacement.
But whether or not this new policy will bring Xiaomi and Redmi as much success as it did to Samsung remains to be determined.
The outcome will depend heavily on the consistency and quality of updates.
