  • Update focuses on system stability, touch control, and reduced power consumption.

  • Camera improvements include fixing shutter lag and enhancing feature responsiveness.

  • OnePlus Open offers dual AMOLED displays, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, and 16GB RAM.

OnePlus Open: New Update

OnePlus Open: New Update

The forthcoming update, officially named CPH2551_13.2.0.203(EX01), is based on Oxygen OS 13.2.

It aims to enhance the OnePlus Open’s usability with software improvements and includes the Android Security Updates for December 2023.

One key focus of the update is to boost system stability and refine the touch control algorithm.

This is an interesting development, considering our review didn’t highlight any significant touch control issues.

However, touch responsiveness can vary widely among users, so these improvements are welcome.

Another notable feature of the update is its focus on reducing power consumption, both during idle times and while using certain apps.

This is particularly intriguing, as many reviews, including ours, had rated the OnePlus Open’s battery life highly, even surpassing that of other foldable phones like the Galaxy Fold 5

Camera functionality also receives attention in this update.

It aims to resolve a shutter lag problem, particularly noticeable when the nightscape mode is turned off.

Additionally, it addresses responsiveness issues in the Retouch, Filters, Resolution, and Flash features.

A crucial fix in the update is for a glitch where the main screen becomes unresponsive when using the rear camera for selfies in dual preview mode.

The update also promises to bolster network stability and compatibility, ensuring a smoother connectivity experience.

While this update may not be the leap to Android 14 that many users were hoping for, it brings significant refinements to the OnePlus Open, focusing on user experience, battery efficiency, and camera functionality.

Pixel 8 Pro To Revive Ultra-Wide Astrophotography Mode Soon

0

Highlights

  • Pixel 8 Pro reintroduces ultra-wide astrophotography with its 48MP camera.

  • Enhanced low-light photography through 4:1 pixel binning in the Pro model.

  • Exclusive astrophotography feature in Pixel 8 Pro, absent in standard Pixel 8.

  • Astrophotography in Pixel 8 Pro available in multiple zoom settings, including ultra-wide.

Astrophotography, a feature that allows users to capture stunning images of the night sky, has made a remarkable comeback in Google’s Pixel 8 Pro.

This mode, initially available in earlier Pixel models, was notably absent in some versions due to concerns over image quality.

The Pixel 8 Pro’s ultra-wide camera, boasting a 48MP sensor with 4:1 pixel binning technology, sets the stage for its astrophotography capabilities.

This technology merges information from four adjacent pixels into one, enhancing low-light photography while reducing noise.

This advancement is a step up from the 12MP ultra-wide sensor in the Pixel 8, possibly explaining why astrophotography is exclusive to the Pro model.

Google Pixel 8 Pro: Capture stunning image of the night sky
Google Pixel 8 Pro: Capture stunning image of the night sky

Interestingly, the return of this feature might not just be about technological improvements.

It could also be a strategic move by Google to differentiate the Pixel 8 Pro from its less expensive counterpart, potentially swaying buyers towards the higher-end model.

When it comes to the specifics of using this feature on the Pixel 8 Pro, users have a variety of shooting options.

They can choose from standard 1x zoom, 2x, or the ultra-wide 0.5x setting.

However, Google’s updated camera support page clarifies that astrophotography is functional only at zoom settings of 1x or greater.

This implies that the ultra-wide astrophotography option is a unique attribute of the Pixel 8 Pro.

The Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro, both equipped with 12MP ultra-wide cameras, don’t support this feature, suggesting that ultra-wide astrophotography might be reserved for future Pro models.

This move by Google marks an interesting evolution in smartphone photography, especially for enthusiasts keen on capturing the celestial wonders.

Galaxy S24 Ultra May Drop 10X Periscope Lens: Latest Camera Leaks

0

Highlights

  • Galaxy S24 Ultra likely to exclude the 10X periscope lens.

  • Rumored inclusion of a 50MP 5x zoom lens as a replacement.

  • Quad telephoto camera setup with digital zoom up to 10x speculated.

  • Other features include a 6.8-inch display and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is about to launch next month and a flurry of rumors and leaks are emerging, shedding light on various aspects of the upcoming device.

Notably, conflicting reports have surfaced regarding the camera setup of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, particularly its zoom capabilities.

Galaxy S23 Ultra: 10X Periscope at the centre

Galaxy S23 Ultra: 10X Periscope at the centre

The Galaxy S23 Ultra is known for its exceptional camera features, includes a 200MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide lens, a 10MP 3x telephoto camera, and a notable 10MP 10x periscope camera.

This periscope unit is at the centre of the conflict.

Initially, rumors in September indicated the potential removal of the 10MP 10x camera, with talks of its replacement by a 50MP camera offering 5x optical zoom.

Then, a contradicting rumor in December hinted at the retention of the 10x camera.

Adding to the confusion, leaked marketing materials alluded to a quad telephoto camera setup with 2x, 3x, 5x, and 10x zoom capabilities but didn’t specify the details of each telephoto lens.

Galaxy S23 Ultra: Clarifying the Periscope Situation

To clarify these discrepancies, a recent leak from @chunvn8888 features an image of the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s camera array, suggesting the absence of the 10MP 10x periscope camera.

If this leak holds true, it implies a shift in Samsung’s approach to zoom technology in its flagship phone.

Although the loss of the 10x camera may disappoint some, the speculated higher resolution 50MP camera could capture more detail, potentially compensating for the change.

Furthermore, the term ‘quad telephoto camera’ hints that the Galaxy S24 Ultra might employ sensor cropping and digital zoom techniques to achieve a 10x zoom range.

Beyond the camera specifications, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is rumored to boast a 6.8-inch screen and a robust titanium design.

Powering the device is expected to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, paired with a substantial 5,000mAh battery, suggesting significant performance and endurance capabilities.

All of this is in the realm of speculation so we would advise readers to take the information with a pinch of salt.

FAQs

What is the major rumored change in the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s camera setup?

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is speculated to exclude the 10X periscope lens, a feature that was prominent in the S23 Ultra.

Instead, it might feature a 50MP camera with 5x optical zoom, suggesting a shift in Samsung’s focus on zoom technology for its flagship model.

How will the absence of the 10X periscope lens affect the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s camera capabilities?

Without the 10X periscope lens, the Galaxy S24 Ultra may rely more on digital zoom technology to achieve high zoom levels.

The speculated 50MP 5x zoom lens could offer higher resolution, potentially compensating for the reduced optical zoom range.

What are the other expected features of the Galaxy S24 Ultra besides the camera changes?

Apart from the camera changes, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is rumored to have a 6.8-inch screen and a robust titanium design.

It’s expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and supported by a substantial 5,000mAh battery.

Is there official confirmation from Samsung about the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s camera specifications?

Currently, there is no official confirmation from Samsung about the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s camera specifications.

The information is based on leaks and rumors, so it is recommended to await official announcements for accurate details.

What are the rumoured camera specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra?

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to significantly upgrade its camera system. Rumours suggest it will feature a 200MP main camera sensor, which is an improvement over the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s 200MP HPX sensor.

Additionally, it’s anticipated to include a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a new 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.

Notably, the device is also expected to retain the 10MP telephoto camera with 10x optical zoom, a feature first introduced in the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

What are the expected specifications and features of the Galaxy S24 Ultra?

Beyond its advanced camera system, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is projected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Gen 3 processor and may offer up to 24GB of RAM.

It’s also speculated to support the S-Pen, suggesting continuity in its hybrid design. The device might feature a 144Hz display with QHD+ resolution, ensuring top-tier visual performance.

How is the Galaxy S24 Ultra expected to perform in the market?

Market projections for the Galaxy S24 Ultra are optimistic. Samsung estimates that the S24 Ultra could account for about 45% of the total sales volume of the Galaxy S24 series.

This expectation is based on the sales trends of previous models, such as the Galaxy S23 series, which reportedly surpassed the sales of the Galaxy S22.

Are there any rumours about the camera specifications of the Galaxy S25 Ultra?

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is rumoured to feature a 200MP primary camera with a new 1-inch image sensor, 0.8µm pixels, dual-pixel autofocus, and in-sensor crop zoom, potentially setting a new standard for smartphone photography.

iPhone 15 Pro Max Overheating Causes Charging Cable to Melt

iPhone 15 Pro Max Overheating Causes Charging Cable to Melt

Highlights

  • User reports iPhone 15 Pro Max overheating, causing physical damage.
  • Overheating led to a melted charging cable and burn marks on the phone.
  • Incident raises concerns about using non-certified charging accessories.
  • Apple advises against using cheap, non-MFi certified USB-C cables.

A recent post on Reddit by a user named NoisilyMarvellous has highlighted a concerning issue with the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

According to the post, the user’s phone overheated to such an extent during an overnight charge that it caused physical damage.

The intense heat not only burned the user’s finger but also melted the plastic of the charging cable.

This resulted in the metal part of the USB-C port fusing with the phone, along with visible burn marks on the device’s body.

Naturally, the person was unsure about the cause of this problem, questioned whether the phone, charging cable, or plug was at fault.

They also sought advice on how to remove the stuck cable and inquired about Apple’s policy on fixing such issues, noting the absence of AppleCare for the device.

Importance of Using Certified Charging Accessories

Importance of Using Certified Charging Accessories
Importance of Using Certified Charging Accessories

This incident shows the critical importance of using certified charging accessories with Apple products.

Apple consistently recommends utilizing either its own charging cables or those certified by MFi (Made for iPhone/iPad) due to their adherence to higher safety standards.

The switch from Apple’s proprietary Lightning charger to USB-C in the iPhone 15 series has led some users to use non-certified, cheaper USB-C cables available at home from other devices.

However, as this incident illustrates, such choices can pose significant risks.

While Apple includes a durable, braided cable with the iPhone 15 series, users often need additional cables for different charging locations.

The temptation to use lower-quality cables should be avoided to prevent safety hazards.

In this particular case, the affected iPhone 15 Pro Max might still be operational and chargeable via a MagSafe wireless charger.

However, the safety of the device is questionable, especially with the damaged cable’s remnants possibly fused to internal components.

Before attempting any self-remedies, it is highly advised for the owner to visit the nearest Apple Store or an Apple-certified repair center for professional assessment and repair.

This approach not only ensures safety but also potentially prevents further damage to the device.

  • Intuitive Intimacy prioritizes emotional over physical connection in relationships.
  • Open-Hearted Masculinity and Consider-date trends redefine modern dating dynamics.

Bumble has unveiled its comprehensive report on the dating trends expected to shape 2024.

Drawing from insights of over 25,000 global singles using the platform, Bumble is basically highlighting the evolution in dating preferences and behaviors.

In 2023, Bumble’s trends revolved around themes like “Wanderlove,” exploring international romance, “Open-casting,” broadening dating choices, and setting new boundaries in various aspects of life.

The forthcoming year, according to Bumble, is anticipated to be a “year of self,” where singles are predicted to focus more on personal values and desires in their romantic pursuits.

The 2024 dating trend predictions from Bumble include:

Bumble Reveals 2024 Dating Trends
Bumble Reveals 2024 Dating Trends
  • Val-Core Dating: This trend highlights the importance of shared values, particularly in social and political engagement. Bumble’s research indicates that 25% of users find political and social activism attractive in a partner. Specifically, 41% of Indian users consider political engagement vital, with human rights issues being the top cause. For 38% of Indian women, sharing similar values is crucial.
  • Betterment Burnout: Many are rejecting the trend of ‘self-optimization,’ which has led to feelings of inadequacy and unworthiness. The data reveals that 68% of women globally are taking steps to be content with their current selves, with 56% of Indian women preferring partners who accept them as they are.
  • Intuitive Intimacy: Emotional intimacy is gaining precedence over physical connection, with 35% of Indian respondents valuing it more. The trend shows a significant focus on finding security and understanding in relationships.
  • Open-Hearted Masculinity: There’s a shift in gender roles and expressions of masculinity, with 25% of men worldwide becoming more emotionally open. For 26% of Indian men, this openness positively impacts their mental health, and 37% view lack of vulnerability as a dealbreaker.
  • MVP (Most Valuable Partner): Shared interest in sports is becoming a crucial factor in dating, with 35% of single Indians prioritizing this aspect. Bumble’s data shows a growing trend of attending sports events as a dating activity, especially among younger generations.
  • Consider-date: There’s an increasing emphasis on mental health and self-care in dating, leading to the resurgence of ‘slow dating.’ In India, 33% are favoring this approach, focusing on quality over quantity in their dating experiences.

Samarpita Samaddar, Bumble’s India Communications Director said: “In 2023, we identified trends on travel romances, setting new boundaries, and dating outside your type. We know that cultural conversations around misogyny, women’s rights, and social issues, that are intertwined with our dating lives, left many exhausted this year.

This has impacted the way people want to date – people are feeling more empowered in their sense of self and seeking out people who value what’s important to them, whether it’s social causes, lifestyle choices or even their favourite sports.

It’s exciting to see people are now increasingly looking inward, and want to show up as authentic versions of themselves. We predict that 2024 will bring in a year of the self, with single Indians feeling more empowered than ever to prioritise what they value and what they will not stand for, leading to a new clarity about what they want in their romantic lives.”

What are some Bumble’s mini-dictionary of cricket-dating terms that you can apply in your dating journey ?

Helicopter shot noun
Just like a popularly known full-swing shot, the ‘helicopter shot’ in the game of love, is the big move you make when you realise they are the one for you!

Eg: “I’m hoping to pull off the helicopter shot and get my girlfriend to say YES!” All-rounder noun

An ‘all-rounder’ is someone who meets your expectations and desires leading to a meaningful, long-term connection.

Eg: “If you’re looking for someone who ticks all your boxes, you know they are an all-rounder!”

Clean bowled noun Like a straight shot by the bowler that hits the wicket leaving the batsman stumped, this could translate to you being ‘clean bowled’ as you realise you have fallen in love.

Eg: “I have no words. I’m clean-bowled in love!”

No ball / wide ball noun
As the batting side is given one free run and an extra delivery to bat for a ‘no ball’, see this as a nudge for a second chance to explore love and find what you’re looking for.

Eg: “Consider it as a no ball and get back on strike again! Love doesn’t come easy but there’s someone out there for you – you’ve got to give it another chance.”

Innings noun
Every cricket match has two innings when batsmen and bowlers reverse roles. When it comes to dating, why be stuck in outdated gendered roles and expectations in your relationship, instead set yourself up for a successful inning as you and your partner share equal responsibilities at home and in life.

Eg: “This inning is mine, you can take over the kitchen for today.”

Target noun
Create your own target, one that works for you. Instead of hitting sixes and fours during PowerPlay, you can also make magic happen in the last overs! Date at your own pace and set your own timelines, instead of rushing into things and giving into societal constructs or pressures.

Eg: “It may have taken time, but I believe it was setting a clear target for myself that got me my near-perfect partner!”

Hitting a boundary noun
In cricket, hitting a boundary – a four or six – is much sought after. However, in your dating journey, avoid the rush. Setting clear boundaries for yourself for your potential connections is crucial for a healthy and equitable relationship.

Eg: “They will have to know my boundary if we are to explore this relationship further.”

Coach noun
Every team and player relies on the invaluable support and guidance of their coach through the game. In the same way, your dating allies, who might be your friends or family, play a major role in supporting you through your dating journey.

Eg: “I always have a word with my coach to help me decide if I’m making the right decision.”

Are Cricket Dates Popular in India ?

Sports, cricket in particular, play an important role in dating journeys for Indians.

78% of Indians surveyed think cricket matches make for great dates
A majority (75%) of Indians surveyed say they actively look for a romantic partner with an interest in sports before deciding whether to explore a connection with them.
Over half (55%) Indians surveyed claim it’s a deal breaker if someone they are romantically interested in didn’t like cricket. This is more true for men (56%) than women (53%).

70% of Indians surveyed believe cricket match dates helps them learn about someone’s interest and passion in cricket and 63% believe they get to know someone’s personality (how someone reacts to a win or a loss, etc.)
When you’re a die-hard cricket fan but your partner isn’t

For 44% of Indians surveyed who’ve been in a dating situation where one liked cricket and the other didn’t, the one who didn’t like cricket compromised and they watched it together, while 41% of Indians surveyed say they spent lots of time apart.

32% of Indians surveyed said they grew to love it and for nearly 1 in 5 (22%) who’ve been in a dating situation where one liked cricket and the other didn’t, it ended their relationship.

POCO C65 arrives in a standard yellow POCO packaging, flaunting “Made in India” stamp on top of the box.

You will find the device neatly packed inside the box.

As for accessories available inside the C65 box, one would usually expect Poco to include everything that one might need to use the phone.

However, one the the common in-the-box accessories missing from the box is a clear case for the device.

Here’s everything you will find in the box

POCO C65 – Design and Build Quality

POCO C65 - Design and Build Quality
POCO C65 – Design and Build Quality

POCO C65 follows a simple yet stylish design philosophy.

We received the Matte Black variant for this review and it has a chic vibe.

The shimmering black rear panel is anything but matte though.

POCO’s two-tone approach is again on display here with the back having a glossy camera module placed on top of the shiny back.

The good news is the shimmery part of the rear panel doesn’t attract fingerprints or dust.

On the other hand, the glossy camera module with two large circular camera houses and flash is a magnet for fingerprints smudges and dust particles.

With just 8.1mm thickness and 192g weight, POCO C65 is a lightweight and easy-to-handle device.

However, the boxy body with a sharp and flat frame is not something we found to be very ergonomic.

POCO C65 – Display and Multimedia Performance

POCO C65 - Display and Multimedia Performance
POCO C65 – Display and Multimedia Performance

The POCO C65 with its 6.74-inch IPS LCD display is slightly larger than the predecessor POCO C55.

It also has a better 90Hz refresh rate compared to the 60Hz refresh rate used last received in C55.

The display appears smooth with decent images.

The colour might look a bid faded to some users but we didn’t find any issues as such as far as visuals are concerned.

What POCO could have improved is the brightness.

At 353 nits, the brightness on paper seems to be perfect for the price segment but when we tested the phone in direct sunlight, the screen wasn’t usable.

POCO has incorporated the Widevine L1 support for HD viewing of streaming content.

For the price segment, it is impressive to see C65 getting the TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light certification and Flicker Free certification. Although, there is no HDR support.

To protect the smartphone from drops and scratches, it the display comes with the Gorilla Glass 3 safeguard.

The POCO C65 is not designed to be a powerful smartphone that supports heavy usage.

The under 10K segment automatically puts in the basic phones category.

So, performance-wise, this one isn’t making any promises.

Just like its predecessor, the C65 also MediaTek Helio G85 SoC.

Now, this 4G processor isn’t something that raises excitement in a smartphone.

If we compare it to some other segment alternative, this weak chipset easily comes off as one of the major drawbacks.

We performed some usual benchmark tests and results also aren’t very encouraging.

This is not a device you purchase for multitasking or gaming.

However, if we keep all the theoretical knowledge about the chipset aside and dive in with zero expectations, POCO C65 isn’t that bad for everyday usage.

POCO C65 – Camera Capabilities

POCO C65 - Camera Capabilities
POCO C65 – Camera Capabilities

POCO C65 comes with a 50MP AI triple rear camera setup, which has multiple camera enhancement features to support everyday photography needs.

The rear camera setup has Film filters, Night mode, AI portrait mode with depth control, Timed burst, Voice Shutter, Tilt-Shift, Watermark, Google Lens, HDR, Sticker and Film filters.

We tried to test the camera quality with some sample shots.

While daylight shots in different modes were impressive, the camera output in Night mode seems underwhelming in multiple shots.

Most shots seem to be losing clarity when zoomed in. However, for the price bracket that C65 caters to, we found the rear camera decent.

It serves the purpose and can be a useful companion for social media enthusiasts and everyday users

The POCO C65 is also equipped with an 8MP selfie camera.

The front camera systems also come with multiple image enhancements.

The selfie shots had decent clarity and sharpness in our front camera tests. The overall camera performance was in line with the price category this device falls into.

POCO C65 – Battery and Charging

POCO C65 - Battery and Charging
POCO C65 – Battery and Charging

The POCO C65 comes with a massive 5000mAh battery capacity that supports 18W fast charging.

However, the brand has bundled a 10W charger inside the box for some reason.

So, if you have a high-power charger, you can use that to get a faster charging speed for the device.

This is also the first USB Type-C charging in the POCO C-series.

To test the charging speed, we tried charging the device with the 10W charged and it took a good 2 hours and 45 minutes to get a 100 per cent charge from almost zero battery.

So, we suggest you use a high-power charger to get a faster charging speed.

POCO C65 – Verdict

POCO C65 – Verdict

The under 10K 4G smartphone segment has seen several additions in recent years, providing the user base with tons of options to choose from.

This category is primarily a blend of features and affordability.

POCO C65, as one would expect, is also a combination of both.

The smartphone features a huge 6.74-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass protection.

The display is smooth and definitely adds to the overall appeal of the smartphone.

In terms of performance, the Poco C65 is equipped with the MediaTek Helio G85 chipset.

Now, this chipset isn’t one of the most powerful ones but for the price category, it does its job.

The camera capability is decent to good and most output mostly depends heavily on lighting conditions.

POCO has surely done a great job with the battery and charging capacity for the category.

C65 comes with a massive 5000mAh battery.

As for recommending the smartphone, we believe this a decent option for the under 10K segment.

At ₹8,499 for the base 4 GB + 128 GB variant, it is for users who want a basic phone for their simple everyday tasks.
