There’s already speculation about its successor, the Galaxy S25 series, slated for release in 2025.

At the crux of these rumours is a significant shift in their camera technology.

According to trusted sources (no, not a trust me bro source), the Galaxy S25 series might say goodbye, at least temporarily, to Samsung’s ISOCELL sensors.

Users of Samsung know that ISOCELL has been a staple in recent flagship models like the Galaxy S23 series and even earlier than that.

Instead, Samsung is reportedly turning to Sony image sensors for the main camera in the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+.

But why?

This potential switch is significant, given Samsung’s long-standing preference for its in-house ISOCELL sensors in all its flagship handsets ranging from Galaxy Z Fold 5 to the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The ISOCELL GN3 50MP sensor, in particular, has been a prominent feature in these models.

Users in general have been less than impressed with Samsung’s GN3 capabilities and it seems that the introduction of Sony sensors is likely to soothe some troubled waters.

Furthermore, another update from Revegnus suggests that Samsung is developing a 1-inch sensor, likely to be featured in the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

This new sensor, touted to have a 200MP resolution, is expected to bring considerable improvements over previous models, with a sensor size of 1 inch, a pixel pitch of 0.8μm, and Horizontal and Vertical Dual Pixel Autofocus (H/V DPAF).

But it seems that the 10X zoom capabilities could be replaced by a 4x in-sensor zooming.

Of course, these are all just rumours, and since the launch of the S25 series is quite a while away, details should arrive in due course next year.

From a design standpoint, the more recent leaks about the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra hint at exclusive features like a titanium frame – a first for Samsung smartphones.
