Razorpay has launched a new and faster UPI system called ‘Turbo UPI’ which is said to offer a 1-step payment experience, five times faster than normal UPI, as claimed by the company.

The finance platform partnered with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and Axis Bank for the launch of Turbo UPI. This new payment system will essentially make it easier and faster for consumers to make UPI payments to online merchants.

What is Turbo UPI?

In the official announcement, Razorpay has described Turbo UPI as a 1-step payment experience. This is because it eliminates the need for redirection to a third-party UPI app during the checkout process. It allows customers to make UPI payments directly by entering their UPI PIN.

Turbo UPI is primarily meant for merchants who will need to integrate the service into the payment gateway.
It is said to boost the payment success rate by 10%. Merchants will get access to granular insights into the end-users drop-off pattern and full control over the customer’s payment experience.

Some of its early adopters are Tata Starquik, Ixigo, FNP (Ferns N Petals), Trainman, and Dhan among others. A specific timeline has not been shared but customers of these businesses will be able to use the service “soon”.

Turbo UPI vs Regular UPI: What is the difference?

It is a relatively lengthy process when it comes to making payments via regular UPI on websites. The first step is to either choose the preferred third-party UPI app or enter your UPI address.

The payment gateway then redirects you to the selected app where you have to use your face/fingerprint lock to access the app. The next step is to cross-check the business name and requested payment and then you enter your UPI PIN to complete the payment.

Afterwards, you are redirected to the merchant’s payment gateway to show the final payment status.

In comparison, Razorpay says Turbo UPI will fasten the whole payment experience by eliminating app redirection steps. All you need to do is to select Turbo UPI on the gateway, enter your UPI PIN, and voila, payment would be done.

It should be noted that Razorpay is not the only one with a 1-step payment experience. Last week, Paytm launched UPI SDK with the same purpose where customers can make direct UPI payments without any third-party UPI app redirects.

It is powered by the same technology stack as Paytm Payments Bank. This SDK will also get support for UPI Lite and UPI on RuPay Credit Card in the future.

UPI has become the common and preferred mode of payment for end users. Explaining the rationale behind the new service, Razorpay said that while UPI is set to dominate as the preferred digital payment method, businesses are looking to reduce reliance on third-party apps and address the lack of visibility into their customer drop-offs during the payment process.

Turbo UPI has been integrated with apps and platforms like grocery delivery platform Tata StarQuik, online travel aggregators ixigo and Trainman, gifts and flowers platform Ferns N Petals, and stock trading platform Dhan, among others.

In the latest development, we have spotted the upcoming Vivo Y27 5G with the model number V2248 on National Certification Corporation (NCC) certification website. The certification listing reveals the live images of the upcoming Y-series smartphone.

Let us take a closer look at the details.

The live images reveal the Vivo Y27 5G in a green colour option. Going by images, the upcoming Y-series smartphone will feature a waterdrop notch display. The Vivo Y27 5G will come with a flat edge design and will accommodate a side-mounted fingerprint scanner along the right edge.

The rear panel of the Vivo Y27 5G will make room for a rectangular camera module which will house a dual-rear camera setup and an LED flash.

The NCC certification listing confirms that the Vivo Y27 5G will be equipped with 44W FlashCharge fast charging support. The charger of the device carries model number V4440L0A1-US.

The Vivo Y27 5G will be backed by a 5000mAh battery unit. This is the typical capacity and the rated capacity of the battery will be 4900mAH. The battery, as per certification documents, has the model number B-Z5. The top edge of the upcoming Y-series smartphone appears to have a secondary microphone and SIM card tray.

Whereas, the bottom edge seems to be housing a USB Type-C port, 3.5mm audio jack, speaker grill, and primary microphone.

The Vivo Y27 5G, as revealed earlier through the Google Play Console listing, might be a rebranded Vivo Y36 5G which was launched last week in Indonesia.

Vivo Y27 5G Key Specifications, Design

As per the Google Play Console listing, the Vivo Y27 5G’s screen supports a Full HD+ resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels and a 440ppi pixel density.
The device is powered by the Dimensity 6020 chip, which is mentioned with model code “MT6833” in the listing.

The Vivo Y27 5G features 6GB of RAM and Android 13 OS, which is likely to be overlaid with the latest version of FunTouch OS 13. One of the live shots of the Y27 5G available through NCC certification reveals that it will pack a 5,000mAh battery.
The image of the charger confirms that the device will be accompanied by a 44W fast charger.

In the live shots, the Vivo Y27 5G can be seen sporting a waterdrop notch screen. It is equipped with a side-facing fingerprint scanner. The back panel of the device has a dual-camera setup with an LED flash.

Its top edge has a microphone and a SIM slot, whereas its opposite side has a 3.5mm headphone jack, a microphone, a USB-C port, and a speaker grille.
The left side of the device appears to be barren, whereas its right edge has volume buttons and a power key, which is integrated with a fingerprint scanner.

The Vivo Y27 5G’s design and its key specifications that have surfaced so far suggest that it could be a rebadged or tweaked edition of the Vivo Y36 5G.

The camera island features two large rings for the camera sensors and an LED flash. The device appears to have a flat rear and front, as well as flat sides. The design is nothing out of the ordinary and is similar to what you may have seen on many other BBK group smartphones.

Vivo Y27 5G, with the model number V2248, has been spotted on the NCC website. The listing gives us a clear look at the smartphone’s design. It is seen in a greenish color with a rectangular camera module on the rear. The camera island features two large rings for the camera sensors and an LED flash. The device appears to have a flat rear and front, as well as flat sides. The design is nothing out of the ordinary and is similar to what you may have seen on many other BBK group smartphones.

The NCC certification listing confirms that the Vivo Y27 5G will be equipped with a 5,000mAh battery with support for 44W fast charging. The handset’s Google Play Console listing hinted it could be powered by the Dimensity 6020 SoC. It may get 6GB of RAM and run Android 13 out of the box.

Vivo Y27 is rumored to be a rebranded Vivo Y36, which was unveiled only recently. That smartphone comes with a 6.44-inch LCD panel with an FHD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. It features a 50MP primary sensor and a 2MP depth lens paired with an LED flash on the rear.

Nothing Phone (2) Key Specifications Confirmed; to Feature a Bigger Battery Than Phone (1)

Nothing has been teasing its upcoming Nothing Phone (2) since MWC 2023. The company first said the next-gen smartphone would launch in late 2023. However, in a recent interview with Forbes, Carl Pei confirmed that the launch is scheduled for July 2023.

The device was listed in BIS, indicating that the device will be launched in India. In addition, the micro-site listing has confirmed the Flipkart availability of the device. But that isn’t surprising considering Flipkart has been Nothing’s online partner since Ear (1) launch in India.

Previously, we exclusively revealed the model number, which was later confirmed by the GeekBench listing of the device. A new tweet from Nothing reveals the display size, information about Android updates, and more about the forthcoming Phone (2).

Nothing Phone 2 is confirmed to launch globally in July. It will launch as the successor to the Nothing Phone 1 that was released in July 2022. Nothing CEO and former OnePlus Co-Founder Car Pei had previously confirmed a few key specifications of the handset.

The upcoming smartphone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC and will be backed by a 4,700mAh battery. The design of the Phone 2 is speculated to be similar to that of the first one.

Now, the company has also revealed the display size of the phone, and a few other details.

In a Twitter thread, Nothing shared that the display of the Nothing Phone 2 will be 0.15-inch bigger than that of Nothing Phone 1. The first generation smartphone from the company sports a 6.55-inch full-HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) display. Therefore, the Phone 2 will feature a 6.7-inch screen.

Previously, alongside confirming the phone’s July launch, Pei said that the Nothing Phone 2 will come with a 4,700mAh battery, which is 200mAh bigger than that of the 4,500mAh battery of the Phone 1.
Today, the company said that these changes will “boost overall performance” of the upcoming handset, all while maintaining a carbon footprint of 53.45 kilograms, over 5 kilograms lower than the Phone 1.

Earlier this month Pei confirmed that the Nothing Phone 2 will be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, a considerable upgrade from Phone 1’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+.

Initial tests of the phone claimed that the Nothing Phone 2 is twice as fast compared to Phone 1. It is said to be about 80 percent more productive than its predecessor.

The company also announced today that it will offer 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security updates for the Nothing Phone 2.

Sold in a plastic-free packaging, the Nothing Phone 2 is claimed to have three times more recycled or bio-based parts as opposed to the Phone 1.

The upcoming model uses 100 percent recycled tin on 9 circuit boards, 100 percent recycled copper foil on the main circuit board, over 90 percent recycled steel on all 28 steel stamping parts, and 80 percent of plastic parts are sustainably sourced, the company stated in a series of tweets.

Alongside claiming that the Nothing Phone 2 uses 100 percent recycled aluminium made with 100 percent renewable energy for the handset’s mid-frame, Nothing claims that the final assembly plants of the smartphone are also powered by 100 percent renewable energy.

Nothing Phone (2) Key Specifications Revealed

Nothing Phone (2) has an SGS-certified carbon footprint of 53.45kg, 5 kg lower than Phone (1). The company states that despite this, it achieved a 200mAh increase in battery and a 0.15-inch increase in screen.

Nothing confirms that the upcoming Phone (2) will have a 6.7-inch AMOLED display. There are reports that Nothing will continue to equip the device with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Carl Pei had previously revealed they would pack a large 4700mAh battery with the upcoming device. However, they haven’t commented on the fast-charging capability of the device.

There are chances for the device to continue to support 33W fast charging tech. Previously, Nothing CEO revealed that the device would sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC built on a 4nm process.

The GeekBench listing of the device confirmed that it would pack up to 12GB of RAM. The listing reveals that the model number will be A065, and the device will run on Android 13 out of the box.

The smartphone scored 1253 and 3833 points in single and multi-core tests. Nothing is likely to launch the device with 8, 12GB RAM and 128, 256GB storage variants. There is no information regarding the rear and front cameras of the upcoming device.

Nothing Aims to Become the Sustainable Android Phone Manufacturer

Nothing has revealed that the company will use a recycled aluminium mid-frame with the smartphone. The company also uses recycled copper foil on the motherboard, tin used on nine circuit boards, 90% recycled steel for 28 stamping parts, and also uses sustainability sourced 90% of plastic parts.

They will also offer plastic-free packaging with the upcoming device, which would be similar to the experience with the latest iPhones.

The company is setting a standard for other smartphone manufacturers on sustainability. The company also confirms that the upcoming device will offer 3 major Android updates and up to 4 years of security updates.

The intention towards prolonged updates is to increase the number of years which a user uses.

Nothing Phone (2) Battery Details

Pei in an interview with Forbes revealed that the Nothing Phone (2) will pack a 4,700mAh battery. The charging details haven’t been revealed yet.

In comparison to the Nothing Phone (1)’s 4,500mAh battery, this is a slight increase but with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, it would be an 80% increase in overall performance improvement over the last gen.

On choosing the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip instead of the Gen 2, Pei gave the reason that this would make the Nothing Phone (2) remain accessible which is probably hinting at the price range for the smartphone.

The Nothing Phone (1) sits at a comfortable spot in terms of pricing where it isn’t as expensive as the premium affordable smartphones but not too cheap either.

Going with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip would make the Nothing Phone (2) remain accessible.

Nothing Phone (2): Launch Details

The Nothing Phone (2) is officially confirmed to launch worldwide in July. The exact launch date of the device has not been revealed yet. Ahead of the launch, Nothing’s CEO has revealed some new details.

Pei has confirmed that the upcoming Nothing flagship smartphone will pack slightly bigger battery than the outgoing model. He revealed that the Phone (1) successor will launch with a 4700mAh battery. The first Nothing smartphone, in comparison, came with a 4500mAh battery.

The charging details of the device have been kept under wraps. It would not be surprising if Nothing launches the device with the same 33W fast charging support that its predecessor came with.

Pei had previously revealed that the Phone (2) will launch with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC.

When asked about why not going ahead with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Pei said, “Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is a proven processor. It has been thoroughly tested and continuously optimised through numerous updates since its introduction a year ago. We prioritise user experience over being first in the specs race. Also, the latest technology comes at a cost which isn’t always justified from a user benefit standpoint. Choosing Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 ensures that Phone (2) remains accessible while delivering a significantly improved experience compared to Phone (1).”
