Apple WWDC 2022: Here's what you can expect and how to watch it

Apple is all set to kick off its renowned event- Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) 2022 today, June 6, 2022. It is a long 4-day conference filled with some amazing yet surprising launches. The event will start today onwards, June 6 and will continue till June 10, 2022.

The WWDC 2022 this time is an all online-only event, starting at 10 am PST (10.30 IST) today. Also, the event will open with the Keynote and the users can watch it easily and conveniently. For those who don’t know, WWDC is Apple’s biggest developer-centric event, focusing more on software. It also gives the users a glimpse at the future versions of iOS, macOS, and watchOS. This time the event is much bigger and more interesting with some amazing rumoured launches. Here’s what you can expect to see live today:

Apple WWDC 2022: What to expect?

Apple is set to unveil the future of innovation with various launches expected to launch at the WWDC 2022. From the latest software to hardware, the event is going to flash everything that Apple has been working on. Here’s what you can expect to see live today:

iOS 16

iOS 16 is the most rumoured and anticipated upcoming software update of iOS. The rumours have been vague about this upcoming update so we can say that we do know what to expect from iOS 16. The upcoming version is expected to introduce key changes. According to previous reports by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, while iOS 16 might not be a visual overhaul, it will bring some key additions. Following are the key updates we can expect from it:

  •  Always On Display for the iPhone 13 and the future iPhone 14 series

The AOD (Always on Display) is rumoured to come for the upcoming iPhone 14 series. The feature simply means users can look at the display for select notifications including time or messages without being concerned about the battery life. The Always On Display functionality is one of the key features of some Android devices like OnePlus, Xiaomi, Samsung and others.

  • More customisation possibilities

Apple might also come with more customisation options for the Lock Screen, including wallpapers with widget-like capabilities, according to the same report.

  • New additions to messages

Apple is also expected to add new features to Messages to make it more like a social network. Exactly how this will take place is unclear, though there’s talk of improvements to the audio messages feature.

  • Upgrades for Health

Apple iOS 16 will also bring new features to the Health app. This time it also includes more advanced sleep-tracking with pill management tools.

One significant thing to take care of is that Apple is only going to give a preview of iOS 16 at the event, followed by a beta build for developers. The final version will not be made public till the new iPhones don’t hit the market, i.e. September. However, the users will surely get a beta version available a month after the release of the developer beta, which they can try out.

iPadOS 16

Just like the iPhones, Apple is also expected to come with dedicated features for iPadOS. Some of the rumoured features include more advanced multitasking support with the ability to run more than two apps simultaneously. Reportedly, iPadOS 16 new interface will make it “easier to see what apps are open and switch between tasks,” and it will also let “users resize app windows and offer new ways for users to handle multiple apps at once.”

Apple WWDC 2022: What to expect?

The update will feature a redesigned multitasking interface that makes it easier to swap between tasks and see which apps are open, plus it will allow users to resize windows. Apple also plans to implement new ways for users to deal with multiple apps simultaneously, in what sounds like a much more Mac-like multitasking experience.

WatchOS 9

There are no exceptional changes expected when it comes to the designing overhaul of watchOS 9, but it will include some fun watch faces and apps this time. It is also rumoured that Apple might add some new fitness tracking features on this upcoming device. Also, it is expected that these new features are only going to be available or limited to the latest watch versions like the upcoming Apple Watch Series 8. Reportedly, Apple might as well introduce a body temperature sensor on the watch.

The new watchOS could also get support for more advanced sleep tracking, similar to the iPhone. A new low-power mode will also be coming to the Watch, which will presumably support more features than the existing low-power mode. The current version only shows the time.

macOS

Apple’s macOS 13 is also expected to get some fresh features. It might also come with a more advanced Settings app, similar to the one that functions on Apple’s iOS devices. But there have been very reports talking about macOS, so this is one area where Apple could perhaps leave everyone surprised.

Apple WWDC 2022: Expected hardware announcements

Since WWDC is all about software development and introduction, hardware is generally not expected here. However, the last WWDC 2020 witnessed the brand’s plan to shift to its own silicon for Macs, though the devices only launched later in the year with the M1 series. Now, Apple’s transition to the new M-series processors is nearly complete, so this is one question mark Apple will unveil any new hardware at WWDC 2022?

The information is still unknown, but we have hopes to see the new MacBook Air making an appearance with an M2 processor at the event. Maybe we can also expect a new Mac Pro as well. Who knows, it could be a surprise that only the event is going to unveil.

Apple WWDC 2002: realityOS and that Mixed Reality headset?

Now, this could be the showstopper of the event! Apple’s long-rumoured reality headset might not be revealed at the WWDC 2022, however, the company is expected to talk about the upcoming device. We can expect some information about its realityOS, which will power this entire experience. Reports from Bloomberg have said Apple’s board has seen the headset, a sign it is nearly ready. The latest report from the New York Times states Apple has roped in Iron Man director Jon Favreau for creating content for the headset. Favreau is also an executive producer of “Prehistoric Planet” on Apple TV+, and he will bring the “show’s dinosaurs to life on the headset,” according to the report. It also notes that the headset looks like a “pair of ski goggles”, with both AR and VR experiences offered. The report notes the headset will not be ready to ship till next year.

Apple WWDC 2022: Where and how to watch Livestream, at what time?

Apple’s WWDC 2022 live stream will start at 10.30 pm IST. Users can simply go to Apple’s website on their iPhone, iPad, Mac or tvOS devices. Also, the event is going to be available on Apple’s YouTube channel live. Apple’s keynotes typically are two hours long at such events, and we expect something similar for WWDC.

It offers all the features of the Grestok Smart Wi-Fi Motion Alarm except the wireless connectivity. The loud alarm and flashing lights can alert everyone in the area or wake you if you’re asleep. Optionally you can also connect an external or remote alarm system by taking advantage of the 3.5mm stereo audio-out port.

Grestok Standalone Door Security Sensor

This security alarm is similar to the smart variant, sans the wireless connectivity and the keypad. IT works as a simple door open sensor with a loud 120dB siren and flashing red lights. Unlike the smart sibling, the Standalone alarm can be controlled using the bundled remote control, to turn off the siren or reverse the sensing action.

Expand your security needs with this kit. It is a combination of the Standalone Door Security Sensor Alarm (main unit), a Window Sensor and a PIR Motion Sensor, along with a remote controller all paired to each other. ESFI questions clubbing of Esports with Fantasy in draft of Rajasthan Virtual Online Sports (Regulation) Bill 2022

The inclusion of esports and clubbing it with fantasy sports in the recently-announced Rajasthan Virtual Online Sports (Regulation) Bill 2022 has received flak from the industry, with the Esports Federation of India (ESFI) questioning this move, in order to bring the electronic sports to the mainstream sports ecosystem. ESFI has termed this Bill as detrimental to the growth of esports in India.

While the Rajasthan Revenue Ministry had asked for comments and suggestions from all the stakeholders on the proposed draft by May 28, ESFI along with its affiliated association from Rajasthan have shared their concerns, requesting the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Sports Minister Ashok Chandna to remove esports from being part of Virtual Online Sports and the bill.

ESFI has also requested Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur, MoS – Sports Nishith Pramanik and Secretary Sports Sujata Chaturvedi for their immediate intervention, as esports is an extension of sports and should be removed from the draft bill.

“It’s important to understand that not all games played electronically are esports. The outcome of any esports match is solely and purely dependent/based on the skills (physical & mental) and performances of the esports athletes are just like cricket, badminton etc. It’s absolutely wrong to club esports (a sport) with fantasy gaming or anything other than sports,” said Vinod Tiwari, President of ESFI, Director – International & NOC Relations of Olympic Council of Asia and Convenor-Esports Committee, Olympic Council of Asia.

ESFI is a recognised member of the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF), which is recognised by the Olympic Council of Asia as the sole governing body for esports in the Asian continent and is also in charge of the technical conduct of esports at the 2022 Asian Games.

ESFI has been sending Indian teams to Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games since 2007 and in the last Asian Games in 2018, wherein esports was played as a demonstration event, India’s Tirth Mehta had won bronze medal for the country in Hearthstone title in the last Asiad in Jakarta.

“We are seeing technology evolution all across and esports is the tech evolution of sports. It is a sport recognised by world sporting bodies like IOC, OCA and Commonwealth etc. and is being governed by the sports rules/laws of the various countries, just like any other sport. Esports is an all-inclusive sport, restricting and/or limiting and/or regulating it the way it’s been proposed in the draft bill will only be detrimental to the growth of our sport and development of the grassroots in the state of Rajasthan or any other Indian state which is planning any such bill on the similar lines,” stated Lokesh Suji, Director, Esports Federation of India & Vice President of the Asian Esports Federation (AESF).

At the 2022 Asian Games, esports has been included as a medal sport and ESFI had shortlisted the 18-member Indian esports contingent after conducting a mega Nationals, talents were chosen to be part of the contingent based on the performances at the National Esports Championships 2022, to participate across five titles at the Asian Games.

Key concerns raised by ESFI in their letter to the Rajasthan government:

  1. “Esports is a sport”; hence, it cannot be clubbed with Fantasy Sports. Esports is recognised as a sport by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which is the apex body of sports along with the Olympic Council of Asia (hereinafter referred to as the “OCA”), Commonwealth Games etc. And they have included esports in their multiple events. IOC organized Virtual Olympic Series (Esports Tournament), before the Tokyo Olympics 2020, Esports is a medal sport in Asian Games 2022 (Postponed) and in the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games 2021 (Postponed) scheduled to be held in 2023; Esports has been a medal sport in South Asian Games in 2019, 2021 & 2022. Even the Commonwealth Games is organizing Commonwealth Esports Championship 2022 alongside Commonwealth Games 2022; French President Mr. Emmanuel Macron made a public statement that he wants esports to be included in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
  1. Across the world, Esports is governed through recognised international and continental federations such as the International Esports Federation (IESF), Asian Esports Federation (AESF), and Pan American Esports Confederation (PAMESCO). Leading countries and sports governing bodies have acknowledged Esports as a sport and are regulating the same under their sports laws/acts. There are more than 46 such countries e.g., South Korea, USA, Finland, Germany, Thailand, New Zealand, Italy, Brazil, Nepal, Indonesia, Turkmenistan, Macedonia, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Serbia Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Georgia, Turkey etc. And thus, it shall be obliged under the Sports Act of the State of Rajasthan. It becomes vividly clear that Esports is and has been recognised as a sport and thus, it shall be obliged under the Sports Act of the Rajasthan State; It is on account of the presence of the Act that the bill becomes not only moot but also wrong to apply the rules of fantasy onto Esports; whether free to play and/or pay-to-play.

3. The name of the Bill “Virtual Sports” is not appropriate as this will lead to people  misunderstanding “Fantasy Sports” as a Sport.
