Not every day are you greeted with a textured finish with a premium feel on an entry-level offering.
The phone’s dual-camera setup along with the circular flash module amplifies the device’s aesthetics.
The frame is colour-matched with the back panel providing a seamless look across the device.
I am also partial to the edges that are a bit flat giving the phone a slightly boxy look that may not be extremely ergonomic but still feels good to hold.
Let’s also talk about the display as the Smart 8HD features a first-in-segment 6.6-inch HD+ Punch-Hole Display with a 90Hz refresh rate.

You just don’t see that in this price point and I’m sure many a buyer on a tight budget will appreciate Infinix’s efforts here.
This high refresh rate ensures smoother scrolling and a better viewing experience.
The display is fortified with NEG glass protection and boasts 500 nits brightness, which isn’t the best for bright sunny conditions, but again I mention that at this sub 6k bracket, you are not likely to get better.
Of course, the punch-hole design maximises screen real estate, making it ideal for media consumption and gaming.
It houses a 13MP primary camera and secondary AI camera which is not of much use and there’s also a Quad-LED Ring Flash just beside it.
The camera’s AI capabilities sporadically aid in scene and object recognition but mostly you will need a lot of sunlight to capture half-way decent shots.
In low lighting conditions, the onus is basically on you if you like flash photography or not.
As the phone doesn’t have any kind of AI night mode assistance, I would recommend you use the flash.
There’s also the inclusion ofmultiple modes, including portrait and filters, which allows for somewhat creative flexibility in photography but not much.
The front of the device features an 8MP selfie camera which is again a first for the segment and the output is passable.
Video-making capabilities of the device are limited to just 720p and at night filming anything with the phone becomes cumbersome.
However, I will commend Infinix’s efforts with the device’s optical capabilities given the price point.

Performance-wise, the Smart 8HD is powered by the Unisoc T606 processor, which provides just the right price-to-performance ratio.
It’s a unique offering in its segment, boasting a 1.6GHz Octa-Core Processor and a nearly 220,000 score on Antutu score.
This chipset is also quite stable maintaining 91 percent of peak performance under load.
The handset is complemented by up to 6GB RAM (including 3GB virtual RAM) and 64GB UFS 2.2 fast internal storage.
Storage can be expanded to 256GB using a microSD card slot.
As for a rundown on the features, there is this Dynamic Island-like feature which Infinix has dubbed the MAGIC RING.
Although it looks nothing like a ring, the area around the punch-hole transforms into different visual elements for a variety of features like the Face Unlock, Background Call, and various charging animations and reminders.
The Infinix Smart 8HD runs on XOS 13, based on Android 13 Go, which is a stripped-down interface for easy access to features and applications.
There is the familiar sight of bloatware dominating the proceedings but the overall intuitiveness of the software offsets that.
Battery life is a strong suit of the Smart 8HD.
It comes equipped with a 5000mAh battery, supported by something called Power Marathon Technology, ensuring long-lasting performance.
For me, it didn’t make too much of a difference, as my regular day finished with about 45% battery.
So this is easily a 1.5-day phone and it helps that the bottom of the phone has a Type-C charging port which is a welcome feature in this segment.
