ControlZ, a startup that is bringing India’s first renewed-smartphone category, has acquired Overcart, the country’s first marketplace for overstock, unboxed, reconditioned and pre-owned merchandise. The acquisition is aligned with ControlZ’s growth strategy to set a new benchmark in the renewed smartphone market in India.

Founded in 2012 by Alex Souter and Saptarshi Nath, two colleagues from the consulting firm CEB, Overcart provides return management and liquidation services to major e-commerce companies, manufacturers, and retailers.

Through this acquisition, ControlZ will be able to expand its business outreach through the extended supply chain and liquidation services. On the other hand, ControlZ, with this addition of Overcart in their portfolio, would be more geared up to enhance its offering for a win-win for their valued customers.

Yug Bhatia, Founder and CEO, ControlZ, said, “We are a smartphone renew specialist, long-term expansion of this business would require strategists support in terms of supply chain and liquidation of inventory. This acquisition will help us to leverage technology capabilities that Overcart has built around to address the industry’s challenges.”

Pioneer in the refurbished segment, Overcart has built a whole tech stack to handle all of these processes and has served thousands of happy customers in the market. The company will operate as a stand-alone company in the highly fragmented B2B pre-owned device market.

Overcart’s technology and platform, combined with ControlZ’s hardware and quality expertise, is a winning combination for organizing the market and filling in the gaps in the pre-owned smartphone industry.

Telecom industry debt levels likely to increase with the 5G spectrum auctions

0
5G telecom tower

ICRA expects industry to shell out around Rs. 1.0-1.1 lakh crore on the upcoming auctions, and given the relaxed payment terms, the upfront outgo is likely to be around Rs. 10,000 crore for the industry

The telecom industry has been witnessing green-shoots of recovery. The tariff hikes implemented by the industry participants coupled with consistent upgradation of subscribers to 4G from 2G and increase in usage of telephony services is expected to result in improvement in industry ARPU (excl. BSNL) to around Rs 170 by the end of FY2023, translating into growth in industry operating income by around 10-12% and OPBDITA by around 15-18% in FY2023.

Rating agency ICRA in its latest report has highlighted that the Indian telecom services industry is on the brink of a technology upgrade to 5G. While telecom operators consider reserve prices to be very high, nonetheless ICRA expects telcos to buy spectrum worth around Rs 1.0-1.1 lakh crore in these auctions, which will be primarily towards developing 5G capabilities but also plugging other gaps. While the upfront payment is likely to remain low, as TRAI has recommended an elongated payment plan, the total debt on the industry is likely to increase which is likely to keep the debt metrics subdued.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had submitted its proposal on the spectrum auctions and has recommended a sizeable spectrum to be put out to auctions across various spectrum bands whose value at reserve price is around Rs 4.5 lakh crore. The TRAI has recommended auction of a sizeable spectrum across various bands including new bands – 600 MHz, 3300-3600 MHz and 24.25-28.5 GHz. The 700 MHz band remained completely unsold over the last two auctions and the prices of the same have been successively reduced. Similarly, for 3300-3600 MHz band, the prices have been reduced from the last recommended price. However, despite the said reduction, the prices remain elevated and the industry has opined that a further correction is needed in the same.

According to Ankit Jain, Vice President and Sector Head, Corporate Ratings, ICRA, “TRAI has come out with recommendations of relaxed payment terms, which allow telcos to pay for the spectrum in 20 installments thus ensuring very low upfront payment. This also avoids any dent on the liquidity position and is also likely to boost participation. This makes the basis for ICRA assumption of the participation in the upcoming spectrum auction to be around Rs 1.0-1.1 lakh crore, in which the upfront payment is likely to be close to Rs 10,000 crore only. Adding this to the existing payments, the industry needs to shelve out only Rs 17,000 crore annually towards spectrum installments, till the moratorium ends.”

While the upfront payment will be low, the participation will lead to an addition in deferred spectrum liabilities and thus the total debt of the industry. Debt continues to remain a vulnerable point for the industry. ICRA expects industry debt levels to increase to around Rs 5.7 lakh crore as on March 31, 2023, before moderating to Rs 5.3 lakh crore as on March 31, 2025. Telcos have been focusing on deleveraging: Bharti Airtel Limited recently concluded its rights issue of Rs 21,000 crore and collected 25% as upfront payment, while Vodafone Idea is also scouting for a fund raiser. However, addition of deferred liabilities continues to keep the debt levels elevated.

“The telecom operators implemented a round of tariff hikes in Q3FY2022, which coupled with consistent upgradation of subscribers to 4G from 2G and increase in usage of telephony services is expected to result in improvement in industry ARPU (excl. BSNL) to around Rs 170 by the end of FY2023. The industry is expected to report a growth of 10-12% in its operating income in FY2023, which will translate into OPBDITA expansion by 15-18%. Industry consolidated revenues are expected to be around Rs 2.6-2.7 lakh crore with OPBDITA of around Rs 1.2-1.3 lakh crore for FY2023. These are likely to translate into a ROCE of around 9-10% for FY2023 for the industry,” Jain added.

While the debt levels remained unwieldly, exerting pressure on the debt coverage metrics, ICRA expects the debt metrics to improve steadily going forward given its expectations of improved profit generation. The total debt/OPBDITA is expected to increase to 4.5x for FY2024 with the addition of deferred spectrum liabilities, before moderating to 4x by FY2025, while the interest coverage is likely to improve to 2.8x for FY2023 and further to 3.3x for FY2025. While in the core business, 5G is likely to drive the growth going forward, the non-telco businesses, which include – enterprise business, cloud services, digital services and fixed broadband services – will also remain crucial for chartering a growth path for the industry.

Ubisoft to reveal the ‘Future of Assassin’s Creed’ in September, also announces new DLC for Valhalla

Ubisoft to reveal the Future of Assassin’s Creed with new DLC for Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed is one of the most popular and longest-running AAA titles the gaming world has ever witnessed. The combats, character themes, the plot-line, and even the stunning and heroic clothing attract you towards it. Ever since the last series was released, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, the fan following went crazy with the new themes and other action scenes. Now is the time that the game might be approaching the turning point in the series development.

The makers, Ubisoft Studio have just announced a few add-ons to the existing franchise along with some new DLC for the Valhalla game. The studio is also hinting towards a new Assassin’s Creed in process. Here’s what we know all!

New Assassin’s Creed Game in making

During an earlier 15th anniversary event, Ubisoft revealed that it will hold a special event in September to reveal “The Future of Assassin’s Creed.” Although the official has not shared any details, for the time being, we can roughly speculate some directions based on rumours and some official announcements.

As per the Chinese Engadget, the first new title could be Assassin’s Creed: Infinite. The title was confirmed by the developers, last summer and we hope that with Infinite, “players will experience the game in a more unified way.” As per Bloomberg’s report, the conceptualization for Infinite would be somewhere similar to the concept of “GTA Online”. It is expected to feature multiple historical lines, allowing the players to experience the dunes of various historical periods, that evolved over time.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, Ubisoft is also expected to be working on a new title, codenamed- “Rift”. This new game is expected to be based on the Assassin’s Creed: Viking Age DLC and will feature the protagonist of the story- Basim Ibn Ishaq, based in Baghdad. The gameplay will be dominated by stealth with a not-so-large open-world game. There’s still a question mark on the release date of both the new games. However, reportedly, Rift will come before the Infinite series. It is also expected that Rift is there to introduce Infinite later in future.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: New DLC content

The new DLC is expected to take the game to further heights. Valhalla already includes the Wrath of the Druids, Siege of Paris, and Dawn of Ragnarok series, and now a new part will be added to it. It is called the Forgotten Saga with a very unique and different experience when compared to previous Assassin’s Creed titles.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla: New DLC content

One good news is that the new Forgotten Saga mode will be free for all users who already own the Valhalla series. Now the game has a very different look as it is inspired by the Roguelite. It features many fresh upgrades like permadeath, procedurally generated maps and more.

Coming to our primary focus of the new mode, the protagonist, Eivor will now enter the Norse mythology realm of Niflheim. The realm is also referred to as frozen hell. This time he will fight huge beasts of this realm in order to reach Loki’s daughter. The game trailer claims that players will fight, fail and learn. Every time Eivor will die, he will return with a better skill set.

The studios have also released the trailer for the upcoming DLC. So, if you haven’t seen it, here’s a link for you:

Led by Hargun Singh (Hargun <2), the Indian team emerged victorious in all their three matches to finish atop the points table in the Rocket League title, while DOTA2 team, comprising captain Moin Ejaz, Ketan Goyal, Abhishek Yadav, Shubham Goli, Vishal Vernekar, claimed four wins from six matches in the regional qualifiers to secure the Commonwealth Esports Championships spot with the second-place finish.

Considering how much potential there is, this regional event will help motivate the rocket league community to participate in every competition and keep them motivated to improve in this game, seeking more opportunities to pursue esports events in general. We would like to thank the federation (ESFI), which has been very supportive and helped us to sail through the regional qualifiers smoothly. We will perform at our level best in the main championship and try to put a podium finish at the event,” said elated Hargun Singh, Captain of the Indian Rocket League team.

The Indian Rocket League team is a combination of two teams which have participated in over 30 Rocket League events in the past 3 years. These individuals hold the Grand Champion Rank in Rocket League and lived up to the expectations by defeating all other countries in the South Asian Regional qualifiers for CEC-2022.

On the other hand, the Indian team, competing in DOTA2, defeated Sri Lanka in both the rounds while managed to win in one round each against Pakistan and Bangladesh to finish second after Pakistan.

“We are happy and a bit disappointed as well for our run in the regional qualifiers as we were expecting a clean sweep. We will continue our grind and have to study good teams in our Esports title and learn better strategies, skills, coordination and teamwork. We are very excited to face good teams around the world at the main event,” said Moin Ejaz, Captain of the Indian DOTA2 team.

This is the same team identified and selected to represent Indian on DOTA2  at Asian Games 2022 and this will surely give them good exposure and practice with the International teams and help in their preparations for the upcoming Asian Games’22.

“Growth and potential of esports is overwhelming and you will have to get involved, sooner the better. Just like Olympics, “esports” is one of the recommendations outlined in the new Commonwealth Sport 2026/30 Strategic Roadmap. Commonwealth Games is another big sporting event in line with Asian Games, it’s reassuring to see that Commonwealth has also openly decided to engage with esports (with this side event) and soon esports will be a medal sport in CW games too. I congratulate our Indian contingent as they displayed their top gameplay, skills and strategy to secure their maiden Commonwealth Esports Championships berth. I believe each of them will make the most of this opportunity and make India proud by bringing laurels to the country,” said Lokesh Suji, Director ESFI & VP- Asian Esports Federation.

With the participation of top international esports teams, the upcoming Commonwealth Esports Championships will provide great exposure and much-needed game time for the Indian players ahead of the 2022 Asian Games, where esports will be making its debut as a medal sport.

Alongside DOTA2 and Rocket League, PES2022 will also be part of the inaugural edition of the Commonwealth Esports Championship.
