Metaverse- Alternate Reality in a Virtual World

0
Metaverse Reality
Metaverse Reality

This is universe has a unique history to its name where alternate and virtual reality coexist. It consists of many stars, constellations, planets, etc. to name a few. What is the first thought that comes to your mind when you hear about Metaverse?

The term alternate reality/dimension that you see in comic books and movies is what is termed metaverse in layman terms. People that hesitate to share their deepest thoughts in the real world are able to do so freely in the virtual world.

What is the virtual world? It is the fictional world of social media yet very real for the users that inhabit it belong to the real world. The internet phenomenon emerged in the 1980s and slowly became an indispensable part of our lives but from that to multiverse, the journey has been quite illuminating.

Brief Description

Metaverse is basically a virtual world that combines augmented and virtual reality to create an illusion to the user as though he/she is living through the moment and is physically present at the scene.

Metaverse has a 3 decade history to its name when it was first used in Snow Crash, a science fiction novel and today has become a pop culture reference. It is just like watching a 3D movie where you get an illusion of the objects on the big screen are jumping right in your direction.

You can call it a 3D universe that represents the future iteration of the virtual world that is the internet. This is a place where friends can meet, socialize and play games with one another within the confinement of the universe.

Video games are the closest example you can find to describe the metaverse as a virtual form of existence. Just like you can access different websites simultaneously through the same browser, so also Metaverse allows you to access multiple platforms at the same time.

Virtual Access

The credit goes to Neil Stephenson, author of Snow Cash, who created multiverse way back when internet was still in its nascent stages, not realizing that it will become an alternate reality of sorts in the 21st century.

Those who have read novel would know all about its characters, Hiro and Uncle Enzo, when the former delivers a pizza to the latter for real. Hiro, true to his name, is the protagonist of the story whose job is to stop a bunch of hackers from their destructive dreams.

In the field of technology, nobody believes a new phenomenon to be real until conclusive proof and today you can find hundreds of tech companies fighting tooth and nail to create a metaverse of their own that is better than others by abundantly investing time and resource.

A metaverse can be accessed through virtual reality so only those familiar with its concept can gain access to metaverse because right now the technology is not as advanced to see it in 3D format although tech companies have high hopes that the day will come when it can happen.

Applications

The virtual world of internet has seen constant evolvement to cater to the present generation but the metaverse has many applications to its credit that blurs the distinction between the real and virtual.

Digital communication has enabled people sitting on opposite sides of the globe to interact with each other with digital content will gain a life of its own in such a way that it becomes part of the physical world.

This does not include video conversations on Facebook, Instagram or Skype but something much more profound through the annals of metaverse. As of now, Metaverse is limited to virtual and augmented reality.

It is inevitable for technology to undergo advancements in every two to three decades and it is this thinking that has bolstered the credentials of platforms that are today regarded as tech giants.

It isn’t for nothing that Mark Zuckerberg has changed the name of Facebook to Meta Platform because he has indicated that it is no longer a mere social media platform with billions of users but has transitioned into a social technological company.

List:

  • Marketing and Advertising are two important ways through which you can promote your product and social media has played a huge role in enhancing this technique by taking it to a whole new level and marketing has become accessible to both small and large scale business.
  • Metaverse has become a popular medium through which businesses can use platforms for product marketing and the following points of marketing applications are proof:
  1. Virtual Branding

    – Every business, big and small, has a huge presence on social media through websites and accounts so they can also create virtual incarnations of the same for promotions.

  2. Paid Advertising

    – If you want to place online ads, it is the digital platforms that will come in handy because non-paid digital marketing can be managed through virtual platforms

  3. E-Commerce Distribution-

It isn’t just limited to customers but businesses too can provide relevant experience for the customers that want to buy their products through virtual stores

  4. Education Revolution-

Education is an important stepping stone for inculcating manners but Covid-19 has made online education a necessary prerequisite to go mainstream although teaching via video conference is still in its early stages and not user friendly

  5. Entertainment Quotient-

The entertainment industry has been booming for a long time but it might soon find its way into metaverse that will give rise to virtual platforms where singers can conduct concerts, reality shows will acquire a virtual platform and sports will become more popular

Gradual Changes

It is interesting to note that although metaverse is considered a ‘parallel universe’ of fiction, it has become a topic of debate among cyber experts and science enthusiasts, which include renowned scholars.

So it is highly likely that Metaverse will bring in some relevant changes in the world as digital universe and artificial intelligence are predicted to takeover in the coming decades or so.

Metaverse can be taken as internet in 3D format in layman terms and regardless of whether you want it or not, it is predicted to have a big impact on our lives in more ways than one and inevitable to happen, which one has to accept.

Some important changes are as follows:

  • 2D internet will become history as 3D will take over big time that will allow people access to the digital world of 3D content because gaming aficionados take to it like fish to water with Fortnite alone attracting millions of gamers worldwide that spend 600 days in the virtual world
  • Workout regimes will become much easier where you can cycle and bike your way into virtual reality where you can wrestle with Brock Lesnar and run a 200m with Usain Bolt
  • Online shopping on social media has become a trend but to do the same in the metaverse will be a whole new experience where your virtual version will try out the dress but it will be delivered to your real world address
  • The Metaverse is expected to grow at an astronomical phase at 800 billion dollars by 2025 that will provide a huge boost to the global GDP

Marketing Gimmick or Future?

When Neil Stephenson coined the term ‘Metaverse’ back in the 90s, even he wouldn’t have anticipated that it would become such a phenomenon because he would have been scoffed and ridiculed for suggesting that a virtual world would exist in parallel with the real one.

Whenever there are talks about the first digital platform to blur the lines of the real and virtual world, Facebook is the first one that comes to mind as it set a benchmark for others to follow.

It is easy to call Metaverse a marketing gimmick because it doesn’t have a clear cut definition of its own and in its developing stages but tech experts opine that it is the future of the internet world that will revolutionize things just as social media had done.

Metaverse is limited to video games and Virtual and Augmented Reality so it is difficult to think any future for it beyond that point but doing so is confining the whole internet medium to Google and Facebook alone.

Tech experts that are studying the metaverse phenomena are of the opinion that it is an ocean of knowledge that is confusing and intriguing at the same time that requires 24/7 focus to decipher properly.

A recent news report had a global tech firm confirming that Metaverse will be around $5 trillion by 2030 given the fact that the investment into the medium has been $120 billion in 2022 compared to $13 billion from last year.

So any platform that has that much money invested upon it cannot be classified as a gimmick in any sense as it is almost the GDP of many countries that will provide business models and give rise to job opportunities all over the world.

Conclusion

The arguments on both sides are quite strong but only time will have a relevant answer as to what the true future for Metaverse will be but rest assured that it will be an incredible journey that will have a massive impact in both the real and virtual world.

Global smartphone sales fall 10% in May, here is why

0
smartphones
smartphones

Impacted by a demand slump due to multiple factors including inflation, China’s slowdown, and the Ukraine crisis, the global smartphone market sales declined 10% Year on Year (YoY) and 4% Month on Month (MoM) in May 2022. With this decline, the global smartphone market sales declined to 96 million units.

According to the Counterpoint Research’s Market Pulse Service, this was the second consecutive month of MoM decline and the 11th consecutive month of YoY sales decline.

The smartphone market is yet to reach the pre-pandemic levels even after a “V” shaped recovery following the first Covid-19 wave in 2020. Supply constraints and persistent Covid waves were the prominent reasons for the negative impact on the smartphone market in 2021. This year, the component shortages have been stabilizing though yet to fully resolved.

Inventory build-ups, declining shipments and order cuts are fallout of the low demand for smartphones. The second quarter is expected to bear the brunt in terms of sales before the situation improves in H2 2022.

Despite a continuous negativity throughout the summer, experts are hopeful for gradual improvement during H2 due to a more normalized situation in China, continued improvement in the supply-demand balance in tech supply chains, and a better macroeconomic landscape if inflation peaks in the mid-year period before heading back down.

In addition to geo-political issues, local promotional events such as 618 in China, back-to-school in August, Diwali in India followed by Christmas and New Year are expected to fuel the market growth in the coming months.

Furthermore, prominent launches such as the new Samsung Galaxy Fold series and the iPhone 14 series, may ignite some demand.

“The demand for a smartphone especially in the advanced economies is driven by replacement, which makes it a discretionary purchase. And inflationary pressures are leading to pessimistic consumer sentiment around the globe with people postponing non-essential purchases, including smartphones. The strengthening US dollar is also hurting emerging economies. A segment of consumers is likely to wait for seasonal promotions before purchasing to offset some of the cost pressures,” said Tarun Pathak, research director, Counterpoint.

The prolonged economic slowdown and lockdown in China collectively impacted the domestic demand as well as the global supply chain,’ said Varun Mishra, senior analyst, Counterpoint Research.

“Chinese smartphone market slight recovered in May after lockdowns eased, however remained 17% below as compared to the same period in May 2021,” adds Mishra. He further adds that it may be needed to add a new baseline market size defined for China’s smartphone market.

“Additionally, the uncertainty created by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis, is also hurting demand in Eastern Europe. None of the OEMs seems to be spared from the negative impact on demand caused by a mix of these factors,” adds Mishra.

The age old saying of health is wealth is taken very seriously by the millennial generation given the great lengths they go to keep in good shape. Mental health is just as important because it plays a significant role in your physical well-being.

A smartwatch has become a must for every individual especially for those grappling with health issues. Apple is launching the new Series 8 smartwatch through which you can detect your body temperature easily, which is good news in current times when the entire world is battling Covid-19.

Earlier you could only check the heart rate, oxygen level, workout regime, etc. but this new feature will allow you to monitor viral fever because no one knows how and where you might contact the deadly corona virus.

The temperature sensor is going to be a gamechanger in many ways that might make the thermometer obsolete in the coming years. Rumors about this new feature in Series 8 had been doing the rounds since April although there was no definite confirmation from anywhere.

However, Bloomberg gave an official confirmation over the matter through Mark Gurman, who also added that it will not detect the exact temperature but notify the user if and when it increases in the body.

Official Report

Mark Gurman is a renowned analyst working at Bloomberg who has been in the industry for a long time so his words definitely carry weight. He mentioned about this new feature back in June of last year that will come out as per the company’s lineup of 2022.

Although he backtracked about it in January 2022 by giving a statement that the new feature is still a few years away, he reverted back to the original statement by claiming that the temperature sensor will indeed be launched in 2022 provided it passed the official testing guidelines in Apple.

There are also rumors floating about the official design of Series 8 where it is being speculated that the smartwatch will have a flat-edge design similar to iPhone 12 and 13 although the current models have a curved edge with a squared dial.

The makers have high hopes that it will pass all the internal tests with flying colours following which they will be able to launch it on the scheduled date, which will be a welcome oasis to health savvy individuals that constantly fret over the matter.

Smart Choice

While everyone is waiting with bated breath for the official Launch of Apple Watch Series 8 model, Gurman has added that the body temperature feature will also be present in the Apple Watch meant for athletes, which has been dubbed as the ‘rugged model’.

This will be launched simultaneously with Series 8 where we may witness some interesting features aside from the aforementioned one to look forward to.

While one model is for common folks while the other is solely for sports athletes, the only common feature in both is that they will have the sensor to detect a rise in body temperature along with several other health-tracking features that the users can avail.

The lineup made a debit in 2014 and has not stopped offering an impressive set of fitness tracking features and that too at crazy affordable prizes. Last year Xiaomi unveiled the Band 6 which was a super upgraded version of the Mi Band 5. It made space for a larger and more vibrant display, a SpO2 sensor, more dedicated workout modes, and better battery life. Now, there’s been some news about its upcoming Mi Ban 7 Pro!

The upcoming band from Xiaomi- Xiaomi Band 7 Pro is expected to take things a step ahead. We already got some news that it will have an even bigger display, Built-in GPS support and a Smart Alam feature. Now it’s confirmed that the band will feature an Always On Display. Here’s all that we know!

Xiaomi Band 7 Pro will feature AOD support( Always On Display)

Coming via a tweet from the reliable tipster, Mukul Sharma, it’s confirmed that the Upcoming Xiaomi Bad 7 pro will have AOD support on board. The brand has also teased the update on its Weibo account. With the AOD support on Band 7 pro, users will now be free from the hassle of lifting their watch to check the time and other notifications. They would be able to get a glance at all the information anytime and anywhere.

Talking about the design of this latest band, this should be called as the biggest “deformation” since the birth of the Xiaomi smart band. The first band introduced by Xiaomi was an oval which is now changed into a square, equipped with a rectangular screen. Furthermore, the size of the display has also increased dramatically, and the effective display content is also significantly larger, which can bring a lot of new ways to play.

Xiaomi Band 7 Pro: Other features and specs

Coming to more specs of the upcoming Band 7 Pro, the teased images speak a lot of things. The smartwatch will feature an always-on 1.49-inch AMOLED Display. The bezel controls on this one also seem to be very functional and well built.

Xiaomi Band 7 Pro will feature AOD support( Always On Display)

The latest Xiaomi Band 7 Pro is an upgraded smart band that looks similar to the Redmi’s Smart Band Pro with a more premium metal chassis. Additionally, the design of the always-on display is also accessible in a wide range of options, and it should match the primary market to provide the user with free third-party downloads.

Coming to the fitness features, the Band 7 Pro may share some functionalities with the Redmi Smart Band Pro, especially in the fitness and health tracking department. It will feature a professional sports mode, 24-hour heart rate sleep monitoring with sleep and stress monitoring as well. Users would be able to do things like pressure monitoring, breathing training, PAI vitality index assessment, sedentary reminders, step counting, goal setting, and other functions that replace the generic smartwatches.

Talking about the colour options on Band 7 Pro, the band is expected to come in two colours: Gold and Black. Additionally, the device will be equipped with a quick-release strap design, can be very easy to disassemble the upper and lower strap, and convenient replacement for different styles.

Xiaomi Band 7 Pro: Other features and specs

According to the earlier speculation, the Band 7 Pro may eventually have a battery capacity of 250 mAh, which is 25% larger than the tracker with the Redmi name. On the Pro model, Xiaomi could for the first time provide a standalone GPS connection. As a result, the band will fall into the same category as Zepp’s newly released Amazfit Bip 3 Pro, which has the same feature.
