Samsung working on foldable OLED displays for Google, Xiaomi and Oppo: Report

0

Samsung Display is apparently working on developing foldable OLED display panels for various companies. These panels will feature an in-folding design and will be shipped to Oppo, Xiaomi, and Google.

According to some media reports, smartphones from these aforementioned brands will be launching later this year. The report claims that the OLED panel for Oppo features a clamshell design, folding from top to bottom. This display has a size of 7.7 inch unfolded, while the outer display will have a size between 1.5 to 2 inches. Notably, this is larger than the 6.7 inch foldable OLED used on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, which launched back in 2020.

As per the report, last year, the Chinese tech giant had unveiled an out folding 7.7 inch foldable screen prototype, which was sourced and developed in partnership with Samsung Display, BOE, and Visionox. But now, it seems like the South Korean firm is its sole supplier. Similarly, Xiaomi is also switching to an in folding design as it is reportedly aiming to launch a foldable smartphone with an 8.03 inch display. Meanwhile, its outer screen will have a size of 6.38 inch, which is being developed by Samsung Display and CSOT.

Meanwhile, Google has also requested the company to develop a foldable OLED panel with a size of around 7.6 inches. In recent times, in folding screens have become more common than out folding panels. This is primarily due to it being easier to secure the curvature needed for the panel to fold with the out folding method. Thanks to the brand’s experience with these types of display, it isn’t surprising that various companies are reaching out to it for foldable panels.

BD Soft introduces affordable, secure email Service “Supermails” for Indian Markets

0

BD Software Distribution one of the largest distributor of IT solutions introduces Super Mails for businesses –  that comes with three levels of security protection along with a premium tier offering more storage and bigger message sizes.

Powered by Yukthi Systems, the Supermails services reinvents a mailing solution, that focuses on privacy and security while also running on green energy.

When it comes to email, SMBs suffer due to a dearth of choice in the market. On the one hand are the big players, with their enterprise level offerings with matching prices, and at the low end are the website hosting providers – not email specialists at all.

In this scenario, BD Software Distribution, one of the largest distributor of IT solutions, introduces Super Mails for businesses – that comes with multiple levels of security protection, a good set of necessary features, and most importantly full support. Powered by Yukthi Systems, the Supermails service reinvents mailing solution, that focuses on affordability and security.

Engineered with a robust architecture, with assurance of email delivery to recipient inboxes rather than spam folders, strong incoming spam and virus filtering providing comfort of high-security, users are also assured of high speed access to emails from the device & clients of their choice. Customers can also setup policies to decide who and send mails where, what size thereby reducing data leakages.

Moreover, Supermails also offers additional file storage and sharing service with a user-friendly browser interface. Equipped with access controls, the email service allows sharing of links and folders with limited accessibility and expiry time. Businesses can now manage the space on the drive by allocating storage on a need basis too. The storage space can be accessed through the mobile app for on the move file access. There is also a Chat (Instant Messaging) service to better facilitate intra team communication, very important in the present WFH situation.

Supermails email service comes with Email Archival, at no extra cost. Optionally, this can also be setup in the customer’s office, giving them the comfort of having all their data available with them, searchable.

The main business innovation is in the basis of the pricing – from the typical fixed mailbox size, user based pricing, we have moved to aggregate space based pricing. Take a chunk of space, divide it as you like amongst your users – no limit on the number of users! This makes the service very affordable for Covid hit businesses, looking to cut costs.

Zakir Hussain, Director, BD Software India said, “Business email continues to be the lifeline of business communication. For SMBs, affordability, security and support are the key. We have come up with a product which fits the requirements exactly, with the right set of features, and doesn’t burn a hole in the pocket.”

Mobile streaming enters mainstream, opening massive market opportunities for advertising

0

Over The Top (OTT) streaming has exploded during the global pandemic, according to a new report by app marketing analytics platform Adjust, further demonstrating a fundamental shift in consumption patterns toward mobile.

Busting the myth that the majority of mobile streaming takes place on commutes, 84% of consumers across the countries surveyed have used their smartphones to stream the same amount or even more content since the coronavirus outbreak, said the report.

On average, over half of consumers surveyed (52.5%) said they are streaming more video content since lockdown. Only 12% of consumers are streaming less — which means four times more consumers are mobile streaming, it said.

Drawing on consumer research from 8,000 respondents across the U.S., the U.K., Germany, Turkey, Japan, Singapore, Korea, and China, The Mobile Streaming 2021 Report also finds strong streaming habits across generations in mobile-first countries. In total, nearly 90% of users aged 55 and older in China (89.8%) and Turkey (88.9%) say they stream via their phone every day or at least more than once a week.

“This drastic shift to routine mobile streaming around the world and across generations has created massive advertising opportunities and a new role for mobile analytics,” said Dr Gijsbert Pols, lead product strategist at Adjust. “By understanding how and when consumers stream, as well as which channels and campaigns deliver the highest marketing impact, the potential to build a large, loyal user-base with high lifetime value is virtually limitless.”

Additional Key Takeaways:

Most consumers are using mobile to stream at least once a day. Users in China (93.8%) and Turkey (91.9%) stream most frequently — every day to once a week — compared to 69.4% for the U.S., 57.2% for Japan, and 45.7% for the U.K.

Users across all generations and regions stream for at least an hour per session, proving viewers are no longer just snacking bite-sized content — they are binging on entire episodes and full-length movies.

  • Millennials, the biggest users of mobile streaming, are also watching for the longest periods of time. Session length averages just over 90 minutes (94.2), closely followed by Gen Z, which comes in at just under 90 minutes (87.6).
  • Users 55 and older may appear to be the laggards in the data set, but 65 minutes per average session suggests this audience is warming up.

Consumers are spending a sizable amount on streaming and on-demand entertainment services. Korea is out in front at $42.68 per month, compared to $33.58 for the U.S. and $34.82 for the U.K.

Connected Television unlocks new second-screening opportunities

Adjust’s research also sheds light on how pervasive second-screening has become around the world, with the rise of Connected TV (CTV). On average, more than three quarters (76%) of all respondents use their mobile phone while watching television, with this viewing behavior most pronounced in Singapore and China (both 85%), closely followed by the U.S. (83%).

Social apps are the number one choice for second-screeners — favoured by 65.4% of respondents, on average — followed by banking (54.9%) and gaming (44.9%). Second-screeners in APAC have a healthy appetite for food delivery apps, with use strongest in China (65.2%), Korea (36.6%) and Singapore (48.2%).

Advertisers can tap into the dual-screening trend by putting a call-to-action in their television ads, such as downloading a mobile app via a QR code. This has the potential to create a whole new and interactive brand experience, across two devices.

Digital Gurukul becomes Asia’s first edtech institute to accept crypto for fee payment

0

Amid wide uncertainties and controversy on banning crypto in India, in a surprising move, edtech platform Digital Gurukul will begin allowing its customers to use some cryptocurrencies for payment of fees from June 2021, becoming Asia’s first edtech company that has embraced digital tokens.

“We are preparing right now for the future of crypto and payments, announcing that this year Digital Gurukul will start supporting select cryptocurrencies for payment of fees,” said Dr Raj Padhiyar, Founder & CEO – Digital Gurukul.

Earlier, Tesla revealed a $1.5 billion bitcoin investment and said it would soon begin accepting the token as payment for its products. Digital Gurukul already allows its customers to pay the fees with easy EMI options, interest freee loan, Study now & Pay later & reward points in association with Cashfree and Kunal Shah’s CRED. But now, the company aims to support cryptocurrency by allowing many more students to avail this service.

Digital Gurukul said it will not support all cryptocurrencies for payment of fees as of now, as many of them need to tighten their compliance measures. “We will be very thoughtful about which assets we support based on consumer protection and compliance,” the company said.

Bitcoin has drawn enthusiasts for its scarcity and security, but the volatile digital currency still is not widely used to pay for goods and services. It’s mostly been a store of value, like gold, with some limited merchants accepting bitcoin for payment. But it’s the rarest instance that any edtech company around Asia has integrated crypto payment in their payment portfolio.

Facebook restores news content as Australia to modify media code: Report

0

Facebook will restore news pages in Australia in the coming days after the government has agreed to amend the News Media Bargaining Code, reported by media.

According to an official statement, Campbell Brown, vice president of global news partnerships at Facebook said, “We will restore news on Facebook in Australia in the next few days.”

As per the reports, the government has been advised by Facebook that “it intends to restore Australian news pages in the coming days”.

“As a result of further discussion, the Australian Government has agreed to a number of changes and guarantees that address key concerns about allowing commerce to recognize the value that the Platform provides to publishers compared to the value it receives from publishers. I’m happy with it,” Brown said.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s ABC News app shot to the top of Apple’s App Store charts in Australia over the course of the last few days, just after Facebook banned Australian news sources on its platform.

Facebook’s ban was in response to the new code that will force tech platforms to pay Australian media companies for the content users share (and that platforms earn ad revenue from).

Facebook took issue with the change and prohibited Australian news and media organizations from sharing news posts, and Australian users from seeing news from international sources as well.

“From now on, the government has made it clear that it will retain the ability to decide whether the news will appear on Facebook and not be subject to compulsory negotiations,” Brown further said.

Late last month, Google also threatened to pull its Search engine from Australia if the proposed media bargaining code, that directs Google and other tech giants to pay news publishers for using their content, goes into effect.
