OPPO Reno 10: Design and Display
OPPO Reno 10: Design and Display
The OPPO Reno 10 5G stands out with its extremely striking design, a hallmark of the series in general.
The phone’s pill-shaped camera module and layout is remarkably similar to the Reno8 Pro, though the camera protrusion is pronounced enough to cause a wobble when placed on flat surfaces.
While the colour of the camera island matches the phone’s body, its integration feels more mechanical than seamless, appearing as if it’s been attached separately.
I also found the island to have a pronounced chamfer around the island, which adds a touch of sophistication to the overall look.
The Reno 10 5G, constructed in three distinct segments, showcases a sleek and refined profile.
The front and back smoothly merge into a slender, silver middle frame.
A word of caution, though: the frame’s glossy finish, while attractive, is quite prone to collecting fingerprints.
Regular cleaning is required to maintain its pristine appearance.
Ergonomically, the Reno 10 5G is a delight.
Its 3D curved front edges significantlyenhance grip and handling comfort.
The device’s lightweight nature, a mere 185 grams, is a consistent feature across the series and adds to its ergonomic appeal.
The power button and volume controls are conveniently placed on the right side for easy access.
The bottom of the phone houses the dual Nano-SIM slot and the Type-C port.
As for audio, the Reno 10 5G doesn’t disappoint. It’s equipped with dual stereo speakers, which I’ll delve into more in the review.
The speaker grille is located at the bottom, and the earpiece doubles as a secondary speaker, contributing to an immersive audio experience.
The OPPO Reno 10 5Gis a timeless piece of machinery that drips in elegance from the outside. Seriously it would not look out of place when showcased amongst some of the most premium handsets in the market.
Coming now to the visual experience, the Reno 10, boasting a large 6.7-inch curved AMOLED screen, doesn’t disappoint one bit.
OPPO asserts that the handset offers a typical brightness of around 500 nits, with the capability to reach a maximum of 800 nits across the entire screen and a peak of 950 nits.
My time using the device in the sunlight, did not produce any legibility issues.
Its resolution stands at 1080 x 2412 pixels, conforming to the common 20:9 aspect ratio and resulting in a pixel density of approximately 394 ppi.
There is perceptibly a sharpness and a visual appeal with real-life usage on the Reno 10 which makes it a treat for media consumption.
The AMOLED technology employed in the Reno 10’s panel ensures deep blacks, contributing to what is effectively an infinite contrast ratio.
An additional benefit of this display is its ability to dim to a minimum of 2.2 nits at the white point, making it comfortable for use in low-light conditions.
For content enthusiasts, the Reno 10 is well-equipped. It supports HDR10+ content, allowing users to enjoy an enhanced viewing experience on platforms like Amazon Prime Video.
While the device is capable of decoding HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG formats, it does not support Dolby Vision.
During my evaluation, watching HDR10+ shows on the Reno 10 was a particularly satisfying experience, underscoring the phone’s capabilities to deliver high-quality visual content.
OPPO Reno 10: Cameras
OPPO Reno 10: Cameras
The Reno 10 5G packs in substantial camera hardware.
As compared to last year, the replacement of the 2MP macro lens with a more functional 32MP Sony IMX709 telephoto lens is a much-welcome change.
This new lens supports 2x optical zoom and up to 20x digital zoom, a notable improvement for capturing detailed close-ups even with a dedicated.
The primary camera also sees an upgrade with a 64MP Omnivision OV64B sensor, though in real-world scenarios, this higher megapixel count doesn’t always translate to better performance.
In daylight, the 64MP camera captures scenic shots with adequate detail but sometimes struggles with overexposure in areas like the sky.
Additionally, there’s a tendency for overprocessing in the images.
The 32MP telephoto lens, however, stands out for its ability to retain detail at 2x optical zoom, offering a new perspective for close-ups. Beyond 2x zoom, the digital zoom leads to a loss in detail and a chalky effect in images.
The Reno 10 5G also includes an 8MP ultrawide lens, which, while not a highlight, adds versatility to the camera setup.
Selfie portraits from the device are commendable, with effective subject separation and a convincingly blurred background.
OPPO’s implementation of portrait mode technology in the Reno 10 5G shows a marked improvement over common Android issues, like handling hair and gaps under arms.
The device allows users to adjust the level of background blur, akin to changing the aperture on SLR or mirrorless cameras, adding a creative control element.
The dynamic range of the camera could be better, but the lack of autofocus doesn’t greatly impact overall usability due to a wide and forgiving focal plane.
Night photography, however, is a weak point for the Reno 10 5G.
Despite having a dedicated night mode designed to enhance low-light photography by slowing the shutter speed, the results often lack clarity and detail, appearing hazy.
Thus, for users who prioritize night photography, the Reno 10 5G may not be the ideal choice.

OPPO Reno 10: Performance, Features, and Software
OPPO Reno 10: Performance, Features, and Software
During my hands-on experience with the OPPO Reno 10 5G, it became clear that it’s geared towards the mid-range market, primarily due to its MediaTek Dimensity 7050 processor.
This chip, essentially a renamed version of the Dimensity 1080 used in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro, positions the Reno 10 in a similar category.
While it’s not the most powerful processor out there, it impressively handles heat management.
Even under extended use, the Reno 10 remained comfortably cool, with only a 30% dropin peak performance and no noticeable stuttering or sudden performance dips.
As for gaming, the Reno 10 5G isn’t the ultimate gaming device, but it surprisingly holds up well for casual gaming sessions.
As with many ColorOS iterations, it comes loaded with a slew of pre-installed apps, or ‘bloatware’, as we often call it.
The home screen feels quite crowded initially, with apps like Moj, Josh, and pre-made folders like ‘Hot Games’ and ‘Hot Apps’.
It took me some time to tidy up the interface to my liking.
However, ColorOS 13.1 does bring some nifty features to the table.
The Smart Always-On Display stood out, allowing me to control apps like Spotifyand keep tabs on food delivery updates from Zomato and Swiggy without needing to unlock the device.
OPPO Reno 10: Battery
OPPO Reno 10: Battery
Testing the OPPO Reno 10 5G revealed its impressive battery life, thanks to the equipped 5,000mAh battery.
In my usage, the phone consistently delivered solid performance, easily handling a day’s worth of moderate to heavy usage.
On a particularly intensive day, with about 5 hours and 20 minutes of screen-on time, I noted that the battery still had 20% left.
In contrast, on days with more moderate usage, around 3 hours of screen-on time, the battery level hovered around the 60% mark.
This variability seems typical for most smartphones.
In a more controlled environment, like our PCMark battery test, the Reno 10 lasted an impressive 17 hours.
Charging technology on the Reno 10 is quite advanced.
The phone supports up to 67W fast charging, primarily through OPPO’s SuperVOOC charging standard. In addition, it is compatible with PD3.0 (9V/2A) charging, although this is notably slower.
Based on my experience, if you’re looking to make the most of the Reno 10’s fast charging capabilities, it’s best to stick with the provided charger.
The device did charge up rapidly in about 50 minutes.
It skillfully marries aesthetic appeal with functionality, presenting a device that’s not only a joy to hold and use, thanks to its sleek design and lightweight structure, but also a feast for the eyes with its expansive and vivid 6.7-inch AMOLED display, enhanced by HDR10+ support.
However, the device isn’t flawless. I found the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 processor to be sufficient for everyday tasks and casual gaming, but it might fall short for those demanding more intensive processing power.
Additionally, the pre-loaded software, cluttered with various apps, might require some time and effort to streamline for a smoother user experience.
Nevertheless, for anyone in search of a mid-range phonethat shines in areas like design, display quality, and battery endurance, the Reno 10 5G presents itself as a worthy contender.
