Samsung Targets High-End Smartphone Dominance with 2024 Galaxy Series

Highlights

  • Samsung shifts focus to luxury market, launching Galaxy S24 and new foldables in 2024.
  • Aiming to boost Average Selling Price, Samsung seeks to challenge Apple’s premium segment lead.
  • Corporate VP Daniel Araujo bullish on doubling flagship shipments to outpace market.

Samsung has revealed a strategic pivot towards the luxury market—a move poised to redefine its brand identity and market positioning.

With the announcement of its Galaxy S24 series and the innovative Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, Samsung is no longer content playing second fiddle in the premium segment.

This tactical shift signals Samsung’s ambition to dethrone its competitors and carve a dominant presence in the high-end smartphone arena.

Historically, Samsung’s forte has been its diverse range of mid-tier smartphones, which propelled the company to the forefront of the global market.

However, 2024 is set to mark a new epoch for the South Korean titan, with intentions to amplify its Average Selling Price (ASP) and snatch a larger slice of the luxury market pie.

Samsung’s current ASP hovers around $295—starkly contrasting Apple’s lofty $988 ASP.

By channeling its efforts into the upscale category, Samsung aims to narrow this disparity significantly.

Samsung’s Future Positioning

Samsung’s Future Positioning
Samsung’s Future Positioning

With the Galaxy S24 lineup and the next generation of Galaxy Z foldables on the horizon, Samsung’s strategy is clear: to entice a clientele with a penchant for the finer things in technology.

The consumer electronics heavyweight is betting on a rising tide of premium demand to supercharge its smartphone replacement cycle in the forthcoming year.

Daniel Araujo, the Corporate Vice President at Samsung’s MX business segment, stands behind this vision, citing the company’s previous successes with flagship sales that outpace market growth.

Amid aspirations to lead the premium phone market, Samsung’s goal extends to populating the best-selling smartphones list with its top-tier devices.

At present, the Galaxy S23 Ultra stands as Samsung’s lone warrior among the top ten shipped models in the first half of 2023.

By broadening its portfolio of high-priced handsets, the company endeavours to populate this list with more of its premium offerings.

With market analysts keeping a close eye on the impending duel between Samsung and Apple—both projected to target 250 million smartphone shipments in 2024—the stakes could not be higher.

Despite Apple’s surging prominence, Samsung’s aggressive focus on upscale smartphones might just tilt the scales in its favour, potentially maintaining its reign as the leading smartphone manufacturer.

FAQs

What is Samsung’s new strategy for the smartphone market in 2024?

Samsung’s 2024 strategy focuses on penetrating the premium smartphone segment more aggressively by releasing high-end models, including the Galaxy S24 series and the latest Galaxy Z Fold and Flip phones. This marks a strategic pivot from their traditional strength in the mid-range market to elevate their Average Selling Price and compete more directly with luxury brands.

How does Samsung’s Average Selling Price compare to Apple’s?

Samsung’s current Average Selling Price stands at around $295, which is considerably lower than Apple’s $988. By expanding their high-end product line, Samsung aims to close this gap and enhance its presence in the premium market space.

What are Samsung’s expectations for its premium smartphones?

Samsung expects to witness a surge in demand for premium smartphones, aligning with consumer replacement cycles. The company aims to capitalize on this demand, targeting double-digit growth in flagship shipments and sales growth that surpasses the overall market.

Build and I/O Options

HP Victus 16: Build and I/O Options

The HP Victus 16 boasts a robust exterior with a solid build, crafted from a plastic unibody that lends it a lightweight appearance despite its larger dimensions.

It’s not exactly compact enough to fit into a backpack, though with some effort we did manage it.

The hinge is particularly sturdy, ensuring the lid remains steady without wobble.
An appealing design feature is the almost gapless connection at the hinge, giving the impression that the lid is suspended in the air.

While it doesn’t scream “gamer,” its understated aesthetic is intentional, with a deep blue color scheme enhancing the chassis.

The Victus branding stands out prominently on the back.

In terms of design, this laptop maintains a basic yet refined minimalism, allowing it to seamlessly transition between casual gaming and everyday work use.

The HP Victus 16 offers a generous array of I/O options.

The device includes an SD media card reader that supports various SD card formats and mini versions with the use of adapters (adapter not included).

For connectivity, you will get one USB Type-C and one USB Type-A port, both with a 5Gbps signaling rate and sleep-and-charge functionality, along with two additional USB Type-A ports at the same signaling rate.

Networking options include one RJ-45 port, and the laptop provides an HDMI 2.1 output for video.

Wireless connectivity is robust with WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, accommodating a wide range of wireless peripherals and internet connections.

Display and Keyboard

HP Victus 16: Display and Keyboard

The display of the HP Victus 16 features a 144Hz IPS LCD panel with a 7ms response time, delivering a fluid and smooth visual experience.

The refresh rate enhances on-screen motion, making it quite appealing.

However, the peak brightness of just 250 nits might fall short under very bright lighting conditions.

Color accuracy is satisfactory, with HP’s claim of 100% sRGB coverage making it suitable for light photo editing tasks, although it’s not the top choice for more color-critical work.

The multimedia experience is respectable, providing an enjoyable viewing experience.

While the display could benefit from slightly higher brightness and enhanced color precision, its performance is commendable given the laptop’s price point.

As for the typing experience, the device features a backlit keyboard with single-zone RGB lighting, offering personalisation options to suit your aesthetic preferences.

We feel that transitioning to this keyboard could require an adjustment period due to the key spacing, particularly for those accustomed to more compact laptops.

A notable advantage is the inclusion of a full numeric keypad, enhancing functionality.

While the keys provide ample travel for comfortable typing, they do miss a tactile feedback that typists often appreciate.

The trackpad is quite responsive, albeit a bit stiff, and while there’s potential for a larger trackpad given the available space, this doesn’t significantly detract from the overall user experience.

Performance

HP Victus 16: Performance

The HP Victus 16 packs an AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS processor that, in our tests, delivered quick and smooth performance across a variety of tasks.

Multitasking, such as managing multiple browser tabs – even as many as 30 across three windows – is handled effortlessly without noticeable lag.

Our usual benchmark scores are telling, with a multi-core score of 11,057 on Geekbench 6 and a solid 818 on Cinebench 2024 reflecting its capabilities.

Apart from this the device also has a cooling system that performs effectively, thanks to ample thermal vents and good airflow that maintain moderate temperatures during use.

3D (1) PCM (1) cine (4) geeky

Although the discrete RTX 3050 GPU may find heavy graphics tasks demanding, it still manages light gaming at high settings and more intense AAA titles at moderate to low settings with ray tracing disabled.

Also, you get the trusty DLSS support, which helps in generating a respectable fps rate in most of the demanding titles.

Supporting the processor is 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD, both of which are excellent for the laptop’s price bracket.

Features and Battery

HP Victus 16: Features and Battery

Finally, in terms of features, the laptop comes equipped with a respectable audio system fine-tuned by B&O, which delivers a satisfactory auditory experience, particularly for multimedia purposes.

It also features a 1080p webcam, which is sufficient for video conferencing but doesn’t quite meet the highest expectations for quality.

Apart from that talking a bit about the battery life, the Victus 16 houses a 70Whr cell, which provides up to 5 hours of operation under our typical usage and about 2 hours when subjected to heavy or gaming activities.

The included standard adapter can recharge the laptop to full capacity in approximately 2 hours.

Final Verdict

HP Victus 16: Final Verdict

The HP Victus 16 is a solid choice for users who prioritize a blend of performance and versatility.

It handles multitasking with ease, courtesy of the AMD Ryzen 7 processor, while also providing satisfactory gaming capabilities with the RTX 3050 GPU.

The inclusion of a full numeric keypad and the RGB backlit keyboard adds to its appeal for both work and play.

While the display and audio are not best-in-class, they perform well at this price point.

Battery life is moderate, and the overall build quality is robust, making it a durable option for daily use.

Users looking for an affordable laptop that doesn’t compromise on performance will find the HP Victus 16 to be a compelling option.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Build Could Come With Potential Titanium Integration

Highlights

  • The Galaxy S24 Ultra is rumored to feature a robust titanium frame, a first for Samsung smartphones.
  • Prospective production of 15 million titanium frames hints at exclusive use for the S24 Ultra.
  • With an eye on yields, the cost-effective aluminum frame prices may surge if titanium is adopted.

In the world of high-end smartphones, durability, and premium materials are often as crucial as the tech within.

Samsung is reportedly stepping up its game by considering the use of titanium for the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s frame, a move that would set a new standard for the company’s flagship devices.

If the transition to titanium is well-received, it could herald a new era of Samsung smartphones boasting the robust material.

As per the report, the shift to titanium, known for its strength and lightweight properties, would mark the Galaxy S24 Ultra as the pioneer in Samsung’s lineup, ushering in an exceptional build quality that could extend to other models based on consumer feedback and production efficiency.

Financially Feasible?

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Potential Titanium Integration

The cost implications of adopting titanium frames are significant, with current aluminum frames being relatively economical at under $20.

Titanium, on the other hand, could quintuple these costs if manufacturing yields are low.

Samsung’s aim for high initial production figures, matching the distribution of its Galaxy S23 Ultra models, signals a confident stride towards incorporating titanium in its premium offering.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is anticipated to retain its sleek flat-screen design, complemented by the proposed titanium frame.

The combination of titanium on the outside and aluminum internally would not only enhance durability but also align Samsung with the build practices seen in competitors’ high-tier models, like the latest iPhones.

By potentially integrating titanium into the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s design, Samsung is poised to offer a device that could redefine luxury in the Android smartphone market, marrying advanced technology with materials that promise both resilience and elegance.

FAQs

What makes the titanium frame of the Galaxy S24 Ultra unique?

The titanium frame would be a pioneering feature for Samsung, offering unparalleled strength and lightweight appeal compared to the current aluminum frames. This premium material is anticipated to enhance the device’s durability while maintaining a sleek design.

Will the titanium frame increase the cost of the Galaxy S24 Ultra?

If Samsung transitions to titanium, the frame cost could potentially increase by up to five times due to the higher price of titanium and production yield challenges. However, the final impact on the retail price will depend on Samsung’s ability to manage these production costs effectively.

How many titanium frames is Samsung planning to produce, and why?

Samsung has reportedly set a target to manufacture 15 million titanium frames, which aligns with the number of Galaxy S23 Ultra units shipped. This suggests a dedicated implementation of titanium frames for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, indicating the model’s exclusive and premium status.

Will the inner frame of the S24 Ultra also be made of titanium?

While the outer frame of the S24 Ultra is rumored to be titanium, the inner frame is expected to remain aluminum. This design choice mirrors the construction seen in certain premium iPhone models, balancing durability with cost-effectiveness.

Highlights

  • Apple confirms a fix is underway for the watchOS 10.1 battery drain issue.
  • Update to address widespread power consumption concerns affecting various Apple Watch models.
  • Customers report severe battery depletion shortly after upgrading to watchOS 10.1.

Apple Watch enthusiasts may soon see a solution to the recent battery drain challenges following the watchOS 10.1 update, as Apple confirms a forthcoming fix.

A recently leaked memo, sourced by MacRumors through various channels, points to Apple’s commitment to addressing the battery issue through an upcoming software update.

Although the details remain scarce, there’s an anticipation that relief is on the horizon for affected users.

The update will build upon the changes introduced in iOS 17.1, which rectified a related power consumption problem when iPhones were synced with Apple Watches.

Despite these improvements, the specific concerns regarding the Apple Watch’s battery longevity persist, prompting this new corrective measure.

There have been growing frustrations on multiple platforms, including the MacRumors Forums, Apple Support Community, and other social channels, suggesting that the problem has spread across several models.

Apple Watch OS Update

From the seasoned Apple Watch Series 5 to the most advanced Apple Watch Ultra 2, reports of batteries plummeting from full charge to half in under an hour have emerged, which just points to the severity of the issue.

However, Apple’s recent smartwatch innovation, the double tap gesture—allowing users to seamlessly interact with calls, messages, and their Smart Stack widgets—have been a well-received feature among Series 9 and Ultra 2 owners.

This intuitive control offers customizable actions, including media playback control and widget navigation, enhancing the user experience.
Even with these innovations battery drain concerns have overshadowed everything.

While awaiting the update, users continue to leverage the dynamic capabilities of watchOS 10.1, confident in the knowledge that Apple is actively working towards a resolution.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Might Be Bringing Fresh Design with Flat Edges and New Camera Look

0

Highlights

  • The Galaxy S24 series is rumored to showcase a significant design overhaul, with the S24 and S24 Plus adopting flat, edged frames.
  • Renderings suggest a soft curvature on the S24’s edges, marrying style with ergonomic comfort.
  • The camera setup on the S24 may appear larger, though no major hardware changes have been hinted at for the standard models.

Anticipation is building for Samsung’s latest innovation within its esteemed Galaxy S-series.

While past iterations have maintained a consistent aesthetic, the emergent Galaxy S24 range is anticipated to deliver a noticeable departure in design, most notably within the standard S24 and the S24 Plus models.

Industry whispers and conceptual visualizations courtesy PhoneArena, borne from collaborations with skilled 3D artists, suggest a transformation in form.

The Galaxy S24 is expected to eschew the traditional rounded contour in favor of a more pronounced, flat-edged frame.

These refinements, while subtle, aim to deliver a modernized feel without compromising the ergonomic comfort synonymous with the brand, courtesy of delicately curved edges to ensure the device rests comfortably in the palm.

The visual narrative for the S24 extends to its camera system, where it seems the lenses may take on a more substantial presence compared to the previous S23 series.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Fresh Design

However, at this juncture, there’s no concrete evidence to suggest a parallel evolution in camera functionality or hardware for the S24 and its Plus counterpart.

Looking to the zenith of the lineup, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is anticipated to retain much of its design DNA from the preceding model, preserving the flat top and bottom with subtly curved sides that have become characteristic of Samsung’s Ultra range.

However, contrary to its siblings, the Ultra variant may indeed venture into new terrain with advancements in camera technology, potentially altering its photographic profile.

While the exact specifications and design details remain cloaked in the speculative fog of rumors, one can infer that the forthcoming Galaxy S24 series is poised to refresh the visual identity of Samsung’s flagship offerings, crafting a distinct and evolved user experience.

FAQs

What design changes are expected with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series?

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 series is rumored to feature a notable redesign, especially for the S24 and S24 Plus models. These changes include a transition from rounded to flat-edged frames, possibly with a slight curvature for a comfortable grip, and a larger appearance for the camera lenses, though actual hardware changes remain unconfirmed.

Will the Galaxy S24 Ultra look different from the S24 and S24 Plus?

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is anticipated to maintain a similar design aesthetic to the current Ultra model, with flat tops and bottoms and softly curved sides. However, it might sport differences in the camera setup if new hardware is introduced.

Are the new design features based on official information from Samsung?

No, the new design features for the Galaxy S24 series are currently based on leaks, rumors, and 3D renderings. They are not officially confirmed by Samsung and should be taken as speculative until an official announcement is made.

How will the new design impact the user experience?

The redesign of the Galaxy S24 series aims to provide a fresh visual appeal while maintaining the comfort and usability Samsung is known for. Flat edges can offer a modern look and may provide a different handling experience, while larger camera lenses could hint at potential enhancements in photography capabilities.

Pros and Cons

Boult Curve Max Review: Pros and Cons
Pros Cons
Affordable Limited soundstage
Bass-rich Inconsistent voice assistant
Water-resistant Basic design
Multi-device pairing

Design and Build

Boult Curve Max Review: Design

The Boult Curve Max strikes a harmonious balance between aesthetics and utility.

The neckband, characterized by its robust yet flexible construction, ensures a snug fit, making it a comfortable choice for marathon listening sessions.

Further enhancing the premium appeal is the rubberized texture which not only adds a touch of sophistication but also augments durability.

The in-ear design might not resonate with everyone’s preferences; however, the easily accessible volume controls on the neckband add a touch of convenience, ensuring users don’t have to reach for their device often.

Features

Boult Curve Max Review: Features

Feature-packed would be an understatement when describing the Curve Max.
One of its standout attributes is the dual-device pairing, an essential in today’s multi-device landscape.

This, coupled with the Bluetooth 5.3 ensures a stable connection, minimizing latency concerns.

The IPX5 water resistance stands as a testament to its versatility, making it suitable for light rain and workout sessions.

While the integration with voice assistants like Siri and Google Assistant amplifies its functionality, our testing showed it to be a bit hit or miss in real-world scenarios.

Sound Quality

Boult Curve Max Review: Sound Quality

The Boult Audio Curve Max earbuds are a satisfactory offering for those seeking a budget-friendly audio solution with a punchy bass response, courtesy of their BoomX Technology and 13mm drivers.

This configuration excels in delivering a dynamic and robust bass, perfect for contemporary genres such as hip-hop and EDM, where a pronounced low-end is key to the listening experience.

Yet, audiophiles may find the mid-range lacking the necessary richness and detail, particularly in vocal-heavy tracks, where warmth and nuance are crucial.

High frequencies are clear, though they lack the crispness and precision some listeners may desire for a more detailed audio profile.

Boult Curve Max Review
Boult Curve Max Design Attracts Gamers

The Curve Max’s Combat Gaming mode, designed to attract gamers with its low 50ms latency promise, can be hit-or-miss, depending on the user’s sensitivity to synchronization between audio and visual cues.

Additionally, our testing occasionally revealed a slight lag in connectivity—a minor inconvenience that could impact those requiring a seamless and immediate connection.

The Curve Max is less suited for genres that demand a broad soundstage, like rock and roll.

Its sound signature, which leans towards the lower frequencies, may not faithfully reproduce the complex instrumental layers and the live feel of recordings that are quintessential to such music styles

Battery Life

Boult Curve Max Review: Battery

Battery endurance is one of the Curve Max’s hallmarks.
Boasting an impressive 100 hours of playtime, it’s a dream come true for users who have an aversion to frequent charging.

The addition of a quick charging feature ensures that even when the battery does run low, you’re not kept waiting for long.

We tested it for about 3-4 days and the battery levels were still above 50 percent, which is quite impressive.

Final Verdict

Boult Curve Max Review: Final Verdict

The Boult Curve Max earphones, available across platforms like Flipkart, Amazon, and Boult Audio’s official website, certainly bring a lot to the proverbial table.

Its blend of features, design, and pricing makes it a compelling choice for the budget-conscious buyer.

However, like any product, it’s not without its flaws.

Prospective buyers would do well to weigh the hearable’s strengths against its weaknesses to determine if it aligns with their expectations and requirements.

The Boult Curve Max earphones distinguish themselves with their deep bass delivery enabled by BoomX Technology, stable Bluetooth 5.3 for seamless connectivity, and an impressive 100-hour battery life which is quite substantial for earphones in this price range.

Are the Boult Curve Max earphones suitable for all music genres?

How do the Curve Max earphones fare for gaming and calls?

How HMD EasyPay is Transforming Nokia Smartphone Purchases: Exclusive Interview with Ravi Kunwar, VP India & APAC for HMD Global

0

Highlights

  • Fully digital, instant, and paperless consumer financing for Nokia smartphones.
  • Tailor-made loans thanks to AI and Machine Learning technologies.
  • HMD Softlock technology ensures consumer fraud prevention.
  • Partnership with DMI Finance for compliant and customer-centric solutions.

In a market where consumer financing options are rapidly evolving, HMD Global has stepped up to introduce HMD EasyPay, a tailor-made financial solution to ease the process of acquiring Nokia smartphones.

We sat down with Ravi Kunwar, the Vice President for India & APAC at HMD Global, to discuss this innovative program.

In this detailed Q&A, Kunwar sheds light on what makes HMD EasyPay unique, how AI and Machine Learning technologies are leveraged, and what safeguards have been put in place to prevent consumer fraud, among other insights.

Here’s what he had to say.

Ravi, can you describe in your own words what HMD EasyPay is all about?

Absolutely, HMD EasyPay is a pioneering financial solution that we’ve designed to make it easier for consumers to purchase Nokia smartphones in the retail market.

What sets it apart is its fully digital, instant, and paperless nature. We’re talking about an incredibly streamlined and user-friendly process.

We’ve partnered with DMI Finance to offer attractive, easy-to-understand loans that are specifically geared toward those consumers for whom affordability may be a barrier to owning a Nokia smartphone.

What prompted HMD to enter this market?

The impetus really came from recognizing a shift in consumer attitudes, particularly among younger generations and in tier-one and tier-two cities.

These consumers are increasingly looking for immediate gratification and affordable options.

With consumer financing becoming more acceptable and actually growing exponentially, it became apparent that we had a ripe opportunity.

Given our expansive product range that includes mobile phones, feature phones, and smartphones, it seemed like the perfect time to offer a solution that directly addresses these evolving needs for affordability and immediacy.

You mentioned AI and ML technologies in your press release. How are they being incorporated?

Great question. AI and Machine Learning are absolutely critical to this venture because they allow us to offer highly personalized financial solutions.

These technologies work behind the scenes, analyzing various data points that are publicly available.

This data-driven approach helps us tailor the loan’s terms like its tenure, EMIs, and even eligibility, specific to each individual consumer.

So, it’s not a one-size-fits-all offering but a well-calibrated, individual-centric financial solution.

Why did you choose to partner with DMI Finance for this initiative?

We chose DMI Finance because they have a sterling reputation and a successful track record in consumer financing in India.

Their values and objectives align closely with ours, particularly when it comes to being customer-centric and fully compliant with regulatory standards as set by the Reserve Bank of India.
It was a natural fit and made our decision relatively straightforward.

How does HMD EasyPay compare to competitors in this space?

One major advantage is its entirely digital nature, which means you don’t have to bother with tedious paperwork.

Additionally, because of the underlying AI and ML technologies, every loan can be customized to the individual.

We’re talking about fine-tuning the terms, the tenure, and the EMIs according to each person’s financial profile.

It’s also incredibly convenient. You can initiate the process in a retail store, or if you prefer, a retailer can come to your home and set it up for you.

The platform is accessible through a URL, meaning it’s not tethered to a specific device or location. It’s as flexible as it gets.

What safeguards have you implemented to prevent consumer fraud?

Fraud prevention is a top priority for us, especially given the digital nature of this offering.

One innovative feature we’ve implemented is our proprietary HMD Softlock technology, which allows the device itself to serve as collateral.
If there’s a default on payment, the Softlock technology can be activated.

Plus, DMI Finance brings a wealth of expertise in risk mitigation and consumer understanding.

They have effective algorithms and procedures in place to minimize the chances of bad loans or fraudulent activities.

What are your plans for integrating EasyPay into more products over the next five years?

We have ambitious plans. Right now, EasyPay is available for all our C series and G series Nokia smartphones.

Moving forward, we intend to integrate it into every new smartphone that we launch in India.

As for other electronic accessories like earbuds, the lower average selling price presents a different set of challenges.

So for the immediate future, our primary focus will be on integrating EasyPay with our range of smartphones.

Highlights

  • Stylish zinc alloy frame with a nautical compass design and stainless steel strap
  • 1.39-inch HD display offering visibility even in direct sunlight
  • Versatile fitness and health tracking including heart rate and sleep monitoring
  • Cross-platform compatibility with both iOS and Android via BoultFit app

The Mirage smartwatch from Boult Audio is a device that can understood to be targeting the intersection where affordability meets luxury.

From the outside, Boult has crafted a smartwatch that appeals to the style-conscious, tech-forward consumer.

The Mirage makes its debut with an attractive launch price of Rs 1,799 on Boult’s website and Flipkart, signalling the brand’s commitment to making technology accessible.

However, at a given time post-launch, the smartwatch will be available at Rs 2,199.

In this review, let’s find out more about the Boult Mirage and if it is the right buy for you.

Pros and Cons

Pros Cons
Elegant design UI can be better
Visible HD display Occasional notification issues
Water-resistant Manual strap adjustment
Budget-friendly

Design and Build Quality

Boult Mirage Design and Build Quality

Boult Audio has embraced a design ethos that can be best described as ‘Intelligent Luxury’.

The use of zinc alloy in the frame enhances its robustness, while the stainless steel strap brings an air of classic wristwatch aesthetic into the smartwatch realm.

Boult also takes an innovative approach by embedding a nautical compass design on the dial, which appears to be more than a mere aesthetic choice.

The Mirage isn’t just about looks; it is designed with practicality in mind.

It comes with a strap adjustment tool, which, despite the initial inconvenience of requiring a watchmaker for the perfect fit, ultimately allows for a custom fit without repeatedly visiting a professional.

Further enhancing its durability and appeal is the range of coloursInox Steel, Amber Blue, and Coal Black—that allow for personalisation and the freedom to match the watch with various styles and occasions.

Display and Durability

Boult Mirage Display and Durability

The Mirage boasts a 1.39-inch HD display, which claims a brightness of 500 nits.

During our test in direct sunlight, the screen remained visible, indicating that the display lives up to its promise of high brightness, making it practical for outdoor use.

Apart from that the display offers standard colour accuracy as can be expected from a device of this price range.

What we didn’t like is that the raise-to-wake functionality was not great and there was also no option in the settings to keep the display on for an extended period of time.

With an IP67 rating, the Mirage establishes itself as a robust companion capable of withstanding exposure to water and dust.

This feature is particularly valuable for users who lead active lifestyles and may frequently encounter the elements.

The water resistance allows for peace of mind during exercises like running in the rain or engaging in sweat-inducing workouts.

Features and Functionality

Features and Functionality
  • Workout Tracking: The Mirage’s ability to track activities like exercise, walking, and jogging is decent. The accuracy is satisfactory for its price bracket, suggesting that it can be a reliable companion for those looking to keep track of their daily fitness routines.
  • User Interface: While the smartwatch does offer over 300 cloud-based watch faces via the BoultFit app, the UI itself lacks depth in customization. This means that while the look of the watch face can be changed, the overall interaction with the smartwatch remains quite basic.
  • Compatibility: The dedicated app ensures that both iOS and Android users have a smooth experience. This cross-platform functionality is essential for wider adoption.
  • Navigation and Controls: Navigation is facilitated not only through touch controls but also via three side buttons, including a crown. These physical controls enhance the tactile experience and can trigger voice assistants like Google Assistant and Siri, making the smartwatch more versatile.
  • Health Monitoring: The Mirage includes a heart rate monitor, blood oxygen monitor, and a sleep tracker. Our evaluation suggests that these features perform reliably, considering the watch’s price point.

Battery Life and Connectivity

Boult Mirage Battery Life and Connectivity

The Mirage promises up to a week of battery life on a single charge, which our testing found to be mostly accurate, although heavy usage will see this reduced.

The pogo pin connector facilitates a full charge in approximately 2 hours.

The smartwatch manages to handle notifications for calls, messages, and apps adequately, but there have been instances where calls failed to show on the watch.

This is something potential users may want to consider, especially if the calling feature is a priority.
The watch does connect to my phone using Bluetooth 5.3 which helps in the lower latency.

Final Verdict

Boult Mirage Final Verdict

Launched at an aggressive price of Rs 1,799 the Boult Mirage aims to offer a premium experience without the premium price tag.

It’s a well-rounded device for its cost, with a few drawbacks in UI intuitiveness and customization.

However, the comprehensive health tracking, decent call quality for its segment, and the added benefit of water resistance make the Mirage a strong contender in the budget smartwatch space.
