Apple files patent for auto diffusing flash tech for improved low light shots

0

Apple iPhones might arrive with a new flash technology in the near future. The company has recently filed for a patent for an auto diffusing flash module, which would enable improved photography during low light scenarios.

According to some media reports, the Cupertino-based giant might be working on a new flash technology that could help its iPhone’s performance in night scenes. Generally, using flash in low light scenes tends to over illuminate the subject in an image and the result can even be a flattened shot, which would also suffer from a white tint and lack of depth. So, while it is usually used sparingly, there are times when one has to use the flash.

As per the report, the patent shows that it is for a “Light source module with adjustable focus.” This implies that the flash mechanism can be altered or adjusted depending on the subject being photographed. While the patent does not mention the word LiDAR, it does mention “auto-focus information from the camera.” Furthermore, the patent also indicates that the new flash will rely on the iPhone camera to calculate distances to different objects within the frame.

The patent also stresses that this tech can be applied to cameras in various different types of devices, which includes “larger electronic device, including a mobile electronic device, which can include a mobile telephone, smartphone, notebook, etc.” It further adds that the flash would feature a “light source module [that] includes an illumination element and an adjustable light diffusing material.”

This module may be made from “a polymer-stabilized cholesteric texture (PSCT), a smectic phase liquid crystal, a polymer network liquid crystal (PNLC), or other suitable material.”

iGear KeyBee, a retro typewriter-inspired wireless keyboard-mouse combo launched

0

Domestic gadgets and smartphone accessories brand iGear has introduced KeyBee, a retro typewriter-style wireless keyboard-mouse combo for desktops, laptops and tablets.

The iGear KeyBee sports round keycaps similar to the classic typewriter, and works off a single 2.4GHz wireless nano USB receiver. It’s a classic add-on to your work desk at home or office.

Kamlesh Sharma, founder, iGear,  said, “The iGear KeyBee is a wonderful input peripheral for everyone who loves the look of the classic typewriter keys for their keyboard. The keyboard-mouse combo gives your work desk a retro look with the classic typewriter-style round keycaps for a nostalgic touch.”

The iGear KeyBee brings back the joy of retro-fashion typing, albeit in modern style. The round keycaps that give you the feeling of the old classic typewriter are highly ergonomic for easy and comfortable typing. The keycaps are removable for easy cleaning too. Also included in the box is a soft-bristle cleaning brush which helps you easily clean between the keys so that your typing experience is never hampered by dust.

The keyboard is a compact, yet full-sized unit and equipped with a numeric keypad. It also includes two AA-size cells that last for the entire year – thanks to the auto power-saving mode that shuts it when it’s not in use.

To complement the typewriter-inspired keyboard is a smart wireless optical mouse that is ergonomically designed with a round shape to fit into your palm. The mouse includes a single AA cell that can work for a year before needing a replacement. The mouse also has a power-saving mode that puts it to sleep when it detects an idle state to save on battery life.

The iGear KeyBee keyboard and mouse combo uses a single a tiny nano 2.4GHz USB receiver and is almost invisible when plugged into a USB port. Being paired to a single USB wireless receiver also helps free up an USB port on your laptop or desktop for other important peripherals. The nano USB receiver is also completely plug-n-play – hassles for installing drivers for any operating system, which include Windows, macOS, Linux or Android.

It will be available for Rs 2,750 on Amazon and Flipkart.

Over time many advances and modern applications have been made, which are able to do multitasking and complex operations, and with the emergence of Artificial Intelligence, the way we use apps has been changed completely. Now apps that can be smarter and can learn more are much in demand!

What are Intelligent Apps?

Now let us understand what intelligent apps really are!

In simple terms, intelligent apps are the one which uses modern technologies like artificial intelligence. These apps are intended to perform the basic operation rather than used to perform complex tasks that can be automated with continued usage, as the app learns from the operational behavior of the users.

These apps provide a personalized user experience combined with adaptability. Intelligent apps use the power of combining data organization, user predictability, prescriptive analytics, consumer data, and operational data.

With the use of artificial intelligence, intelligent apps engage with users in unimaginable ways, ways that were earlier not known and were considered just in theories. Embedding AI and analytic technologies help create the ability to act intelligently on the feedback the app receives from its environment. Aware of their performance and interactions with the user and other applications, intelligent apps autonomously learn, adapt, and discover patterns of behavior. As an intelligent app is used, it increases what it learns and uses predictive analytics to quickly adapt to the information it receives.

These smart and intelligent apps make our lives easy by learning from us, thus developers around the world are more focused on intelligent apps rather than single-operational-apps. The app market is versatile and changing very rapidly.

What are the Characteristics of Intelligent Apps!

Besides Artificial Intelligence the smart apps also use technologies including Machine learning, the Internet of Things, and big data analytics. And because of these cutting-edge technologies, the intelligent apps develop some easing characteristics or features:

Ability to learn – Intelligent apps continuously learn from user interaction and improve their performance based on the acquired historical data.

Ability to predict – Unlike traditional mobile applications, smart ones predict what information or suggestions would be the most relevant to the user and proactively reach out to users, not vice versa.

Ability to automate – Intelligent apps analyze and make decisions basing on the vast amount of data, thus completing many tasks without waiting for user commands.

Omnichannel – These apps understand what users expect and thus ensures to give the same experience on all the communication channels. With all such features, intelligent mobile apps are paving the way to do business more effectively and profitably. They are enhancing the efficiency of the workforce, accelerating the decision-making process, gathering better insights, and thus, delivering long-term benefits.

The Apps:

The emergence of AI and the development of apps has definitely enhanced the customer experience and the transition to enterprise mobility is in powerful demand right now. Here are some of the examples that prove this point very well!

That time is not that far where we will just command and everything around us will happen automatically!

Netflix

Gone are the days of big movie theatres, the Covid-19 pandemic has provoked us to shift from the traditional way of watching movies and the Netflix app has caused much disruption in the media industry and has surely leveraged AI in its mobile app. Thanks to big data analytics, the brand can give accurate, personalized movie recommendations — a feature that millions seeking something to watch deeply appreciate.

Elsa

Elsa (English Language Speech Assistant) is a renowned teacher of English pronunciation. The app gives accurate feedback on the user’s pronunciation and adapts the training to his unique needs.

Ada Health

The AI-based app is often called a doctor in your pocket: it carefully listens to users’ symptoms, asks clarifying questions, and helps to navigate to the most suitable care analyzing the responses against rich data of similar cases.

Seeing AI

The Seeing AI is a talking camera app developed by Microsoft for visually-impaired people. The computed vision is so powerful, it can help users identify currencies, handwriting, colors, images in other apps, and even the age and emotions of people speaking to the user.

Microsoft Pix Camera

The camera app uses AI to help users retain the best memories of their unique moments. Namely, every shutter click makes the camera capture 10 frames, and AI, in just a second, selects up to three of the best ones to store.

Intelligent Apps at work:

In this section of the article we will cover in detail the different domains where we can use these apps:

Healthcare Sector – this is one of the most important and evergreen sectors, which faces new challenges every single day, and because of this, the health sector can surely take advantage of intelligent apps. Many AI-based learning models are being used to train machines about the sector and also many low-level cures are being done using the solutions provided by artificial intelligence. With the onset of the new decade, healthcare and intelligent apps are a perfect match for each other.

Intelligent apps can be used to provide learning assistance based on an individual’s learning ability.

Finance Sector – The finance sector is one of the largest sectors to target for any developer or company which makes intelligent apps. Finance, when combined with technology, is called, Fin-tech. With the help of smart apps, the financing sector can reap rewards of potentially high profit and stabilized market.

The intelligent apps can accurately predict the changes in the market based on the ongoing as well as past events, analyzing the companies and their profit ratio.

Food Businesses – This is one sector that is using AI-based apps heavily. Users around the world are ordering food online, or booking restaurants. These apps not only suggest users the meals based on their previous choices and their interaction with the app but also of great help sometimes. The mode of marketing and user acquisition is completely changed, not only the app companies, but restaurants are also making profits and acquiring customers from delivering food online.

The Future of Intelligent Apps!

Undoubtedly, intelligent apps multiply the effectiveness, but they are also giving the mobile apps a human touch. Of course, all the responses are generated by the algorithms, but at the same time, it still feels great that someone or something is listening to you and getting all your complex tasks done with ease.

Intelligent apps are touching upon all the major areas of our lives now, be it Media, Healthcare, Education, Finance, etc. These apps are implementing tasks with the highest accuracy.

Gradually everything around us is becoming smart and intelligent, the future is definitely incomplete without Artificial Intelligence!

Paytm Soundbox has played a pivotal role in establishing digital transactions as a safe & secure mode of payments, enhancing the trust of businesses and consumers to move digitally. With this IoT-based device, merchants do not need to keep checking their mobile phones for confirmation helping in increasing efficiency and reducing queues & customer waiting time on the shop floor.

Instant voice-based confirmations of payments help merchants keep track of all transactions protecting them from getting duped by customers showing fake screens and false confirmations. Small merchants with feature phones, do not need to depend upon SMS confirmations. It has also enabled smooth & seamless digital payments for home delivery as the delivery executive can get instant voice confirmation after a QR-code based payment is made using the device.

Paytm has now introduced an all-new Soundbox 2.0, a ‘Made in India’ advanced IoT device that is powered by Paytm’s All-in-One payments & reconciliation technology. Paytm Soundbox 2.0 smart device also empowers merchants to record the net amount corresponding to the merchant’s collection along with voice-based confirmation. For example, the device during the closing hour would play the following message, “Today’s summary for Paytm QR code: Received 10 payments of Rs 100, done 3 refunds of Rs 20, Net amount to be settled is equal to Rs 80.” It also announces when the device has a full battery life of running out of charge. After enabling digital payments with QR-code technology and democratising financial services in the country with a host of services, the company has now launched yet another technological milestone, the Paytm Smart POS for Android phones. As a pioneer of the Tap to Phone solution with EMVCo, at Visa we are particularly excited about Paytm Smart PoS’s ability to offer a seamless, convenient and interoperable solution for merchants that will help them accept payments securely from millions of contactless cards in the market.”

Dilip Asbe, MD and CEO of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) said, “Paytm has played a vital role in the country’s payments revolution & has initiated the digital journey of millions of Indians. To give an example, a few days back for my local purchases, I was paying by scanning Paytm interoperable QR code using BHIM UPI. After the successful transaction, as a normal practice I asked the shop owner whether she received the payment. At the same instant, I heard “50 rupees received” and she smiled and said ‘Aunty ne bola – Aa Gaya’. I believe, this kind of frugal innovations truly connects Indian small merchants with digital payments and aids tremendously to create trust. NPCI strongly believes that our dream of enabling a billion transactions a day can only be achieved if all of us come together to help the ecosystem grow.”

OnePlus 9 Series all set to launch on March 23 with a charger inside the box

0

The Chinese smartphone maker, OnePlus, is all set to launch the OnePlus 9 Series on March 23, the company confirmed. The event is likely to happen at 10 AM ET. However, before the launch, the company has revealed that the upcoming OnePlus 9 Series will come with a charger inside the box.

The founder of OnePlus, Pete Lau, has revealed that the OnePlus 9 Series will come with a charger in its box via a comment on the OnePlus community forums. Last week, Pete posted a teaser hinting at the OnePlus 9 series launch and the partnership with camera giant Hasselblad. In that post, a user had commented, “New phones launch WITHOUT CHARGERS”.

To this, Pete has replied, “Don’t worry about it. We have the charger inside the box.” This info falls in line with earlier leaks and unless there’s any new tech, the devices should ship with a 65W Warp charger inside the box.

Anyway, with this, he confirms that the Chinese smartphone maker won’t join the bandwagon of companies skipping in-box chargers. The trend of not including a charger was started by Apple and now giants like Samsung, Xiaomi have started to adopt it.

Just like the Vivo, OPPO, realme, the OnePlus devices come with a trademarked “Warp charging” and they are proprietary solutions for fast charging on OnePlus smartphones. This could also be another reason for OnePlus sticking to include them on the OnePlus 9 series.

As per media reports, the launch event on March 23 will showcase four products including the OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, OnePlus 9R, and OnePlus Watch

Out of this, the Hasselblad partnership for the “Natural Color Calibration” will help OnePlus ship the devices with a new color solution. Accordingly, the ‘Pro’ variant is expected to feature a Quad-camera setup with a custom Sony IMX789 Sensor(could be 48MP), panoramic Camera with a 140° FOV.
