Twitter now shares its ad revenue with the top creators : Here’s How To Get Accepted Into The Monetization Program

0
Twitter

HIGHLIGHTS

* Twitter creators can now start getting their share of the company’s ad revenue.
* This is applicable only for Twitter Blue individuals and organisations.
* Twitter has started paying eligible creators, and reportedly up to $40,000 (around Rs 32.8 lakh).

Elon Musk has been making some big changes ever since he took over Twitter. There have been some not-so-happy changes but one that will benefit users has begun.

Earlier this year in February, Musk announced that creators will be able to start earning money through ads on Twitter.

It looks like the payout has started for some creators.

Twitter has launched its ad-revenue-sharing program for creators, and eligible Blue subscribers have already started receiving payments.

Elon Musk first announced this initiative in February, but at the time, very few details were available about how it would work.

Twitter

As per a tweet announcing the program, those eligible will receive a portion of the ad revenue generated from their posts, starting with replies.
Several high-profile users have reported receiving notifications about incoming deposits, claiming to a few thousands to ten thousand dollars.

These rewards are based on ads shown in replies to eligible users’ content.

The first round of payouts for creators will amount to $5 million, as per Musk, and will be cumulative from February from now on.

Twitter starts paying creators for ads

Twitter

The monetisation system is a little different from other platforms though. Here, creators have to be subscribed to Twitter Blue to be eligible for the revenue sharing system.

Twitter Blue costs Rs 900 per month on mobile, and Rs 650 on the web. You can also get an annual subscription that costs Rs 6,800 per year. With Twitter Blue, you get the verified blue tick and other features.

How to join Twitter’s monetisation program?

* As mentioned above, you will need to be subscribed to Twitter Blue to join the monetisation program. In addition to being subscribed to Twitter Blue, you will also need to have at least 5 million impressions on posts in each of the last three months.
* At present, Twitter’s ad revenue sharing system is available only in countries where Stripe supports payouts. Twitter hasn’t clarified about countries where Stripe isn’t available.
* It will most likely partner with the payment services available in whichever country it wants to launch the monetisation program.

What’s the revenue sharing criteria for Twitter creators

Twitter

According to the support post, the revenue-sharing system is only available for Twitter Blue or Verified Organizations subscribers who have generated at least five million post impressions in each of the past three months.

Additionally, users will be subjected to a human review and must follow the Creator Subscriptions policies before getting paid through a Stripe account.

Those who meet the requirements can apply for the program by going to the Monetization section in their account settings, and there will soon be an application process as it plans to expand eligibility to more creators.

There are certain limitations as well on which creators can earn money through its content monetization program.

Twitter

Sexual content is not allowed to be monetized in accordance with Twitter’s standards. The monetization of content related to pyramid schemes, get-rich-quick schemes, violence, criminal activities, gambling, drugs, and alcohol is also prohibited. Additionally, if a creator attempts to monetize copyrighted content that they do not own, it is considered a violation.

The payouts come at a time when Twitter is facing challenges left and right. It has been sued for 500 million unpaid severance checks, and then Zuckerberg-owned Meta has been trying to dent Twitter’s declining traffic.

How does the revenue payout work?

Twitter

Twitter Blue subscribers can now start earning money through ads that come up in tweet replies. The company announced that creators will start getting payouts through shares from the company’s ad revenue that has been generated from tweet replies.

So basically, your tweets will need to go viral and have enough engagement to generate ad revenue. Only then would you start receiving payments from Twitter.

Twitter is  paying up to $40,000 for accounts that have a few million followers, according to a report by The Verge.

It’s starting with a small group who will be invited to accept payment.

Twitter plans to roll out the program to more creators later this month. Twitter’s monetisation is applicable for verified organisations as well.

Twitter

Faqs

1) What is Twitter ad revenue sharing?

Ans) Twitter ad revenue sharing is the latest feature added to the platform that helps creators get a share of Twitter’s revenue from the sponsored posts appearing under their tweets. Through this initiative, verified creators can receive a portion of the money made by adverts that are shown in comments on their posts.

Although it’s not immediately obvious how reimbursements are calculated or how much money Twitter keeps for itself, accounts must have received at least 5 million impressions on tweets in the previous three months in order to be eligible.

Conservative YouTuber Benny Johnson announced that he was qualified to get close to $10,000; @Elon_alerts, an account that tweets about Musk, stated that their compensation was roughly $2,200. Payouts are cumulative going back to February, when the initiative was first introduced, according to Musk in a tweet.
“For the next 12 months, Twitter will keep none of the money. You will receive whatever money we receive, so that’s 70% for subscriptions on iOS & Android (they charge 30%) and ~92% on web (could be better, depending on payment processor),” tweeted Musk.

2) Does Twitter creator monetization?

Ans) Finally, Twitter is introducing a new function that will compensate creators. The first Twitter ad revenue sharing payments were made over the course of a few months, beginning in February, and were only available to artists who had signed up for the Blue program and generated at least five million impressions.

As it would be challenging to decide which creators to compensate for advertisements served in the feed (this is the same issue short-form video platforms like TikTok are encountering with revenue sharing), Twitter is monetizing the advertising shown in tweet replies.

It follows that artists will naturally want to offer incentives for people to respond to their tweets. The ideal case scenario would be that this would spark dialogue; however, as we are aware from sites like Facebook, strong emotions are what generate the greatest interest.

“We’re expanding our creator monetization offering to include ads revenue sharing for creators. This means that creators can get a share in ad revenue, starting in the replies to their posts. This is part of our effort to help people earn a living directly on Twitter. We’re rolling out the program more broadly later this month, and all eligible creators will be able to apply,” Twitter said.

3) Twitter monetization in which countries ?

Ans) Luckily, the Twitter ad revenue sharing program is eligible in every country that Stripe is eligible for a payout. “We are rolling out to an initial group who will be invited to accept payment,” the company added.

Before this, Twitter had announced its new monetization features. On April 14, the function debuted under the “Subscriptions” menu, but it was only partially functional. All users in more than 110 countries can now access it.
Your Twitter account must have been active for at least three months in order to allow monetization. Additionally, it must have 25 tweets in the previous 30 days and at least 500 followers.

Until they reach $50,000 in income, Twitter will let content creators keep up to 92% of their earnings. The user’s revenue share decreases to 80% after that point. Twitter plans to work with the Stripe payment system to coordinate payments.

4) How to get paid on Twitter?

Ans) Twitter is a powerful platform for sharing thoughts, ideas, and news. But did you know that you can also make money on Twitter, and the Twitter ad revenue sharing program is not the only option?

There are a few different ways to get paid on Twitter. Here are a few of the most popular methods:
* Sponsored tweets: This is where you partner with a brand to promote their product or service in a tweet. You can charge a flat fee or a commission on sales.
* Affiliate marketing: This is where you promote a product or service on Twitter and earn a commission for each sale that you generate.
* Subscriptions: This is where you charge your followers a monthly fee to access exclusive content or features.
* Tips: This is where your followers can send you money directly through Twitter.

So, how do you get started making money on Twitter? Here are a few tips:
* Build a following: The first step is to build a large enough following that brands will want to work with you. This means tweeting consistently, engaging with your followers, and sharing interesting and relevant content.
* Create high-quality content: Your tweets should be informative, engaging, and visually appealing. If you create great content, people will be more likely to follow you and pay attention to your ads.
* Be authentic: People can spot a fake from a mile away. So, be yourself and be genuine in your interactions with your followers. This will help you build trust and credibility, which are essential for making money on Twitter.

Vi Partners with Truecaller to help stop customer service fraud: to Enhance Customer Communication and Trustworthiness

HIGHLIGHTS

* Truecaller is a caller ID service providers
* It has over 350 million active users
* Truecaller has been downloaded more than billion times since launch
* Vodafone Idea has partnered with Truecaller to combat customer service fraud.
* Via this partnership, Truecaller will provide users with a secure customer communication experience.
* Truecaller solution enhances business calls by providing a brand identity and relevant context.
* Fraudsters are known to pretend to be calling from businesses in order to scam people.
* Truecaller will verify Vi’s customer support numbers to help customers differentiate between authentic and scam calls.
* Truecaller will also show the reason for the call to inform customers in advance.

Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Truecaller have partnered to enhance the reliability and security of customer interactions.

The teleco will be using Truecaller’s Verified Business Caller ID solution for its customer service.

This partnership comes amid the increasing occurrence of customer service fraud.

It was earlier this year when we first heard Truecaller was exploring partnerships with Indian telecom operators.

Its goal was to help telcos fight spam and frauds that keep increasing with time. The company has found success as it has collaborated with Vi (Vodafone-Idea) for verified customer calls.

Here is everything you need to know and what it means.

Ashish Sharma, EVP of Customer Service at Vi said, “We know that customers don’t like unwanted calls and feel more secure when communicating through verified customer care channels. That’s why we’re excited to partner with Truecaller, a trusted caller ID service provider, to offer safer and verified communication to our customers.”

Priyam Bose, Global Head of GTM at Truecaller, emphasized the commitment to empower businesses by enhancing customer communication and verification. The collaboration with Vi represents a significant step in reinforcing trust and strengthening customer interactions within the fast-paced, customer-centric telecom sector. Truecaller’s Verified Business solution has become integral to creating a more secure and trusted communication environment.

Vi, Truecaller partner for secure customer experience

Vi Partners

As part of the collaboration, Truecaller will provide a secure and improved customer communication experience to Vi customers. Through its Verified Business Caller ID solution, the caller identification app has enabled Vodafone Idea’s customer service and sales team to enhance their interactions with users.

Vi customers can easily identify genuine calls from Vi by looking for certain trustworthy indicators provided by Truecaller, which include a green caller ID, a category tag, a tamper-proof brand name along with the logo, a verified business badge, and a call reason.

As per the company, the solution enhances business calls by providing a brand identity and relevant context and that likely makes the customer communication more reliable. It helps in reducing call-related frauds and scams while also improving the efficiency and safety of business communications.

Truecall has been taking measures to prevent fraud via calls for quite some time. In December 2023, the platform introduced an in-app digital government directory, enabling users to verify if a caller is a legitimate government representative or a potential fraudster. By accessing a digital list of verified government contacts, Truecaller users can easily check the information of the caller.

The company emphasizes the significance of protecting users from scams, fraud, and spam as it plays a crucial role in establishing trust in their services among the public.

Vi (Vodafone Idea) India has collaborated with Truecaller to ensure safe and reliable communication for its users. The announcement was made on July 13. It aims to prevent users from customer service frauds and offer trusted communication. The number of customer service frauds have increased lately.

Hence, the telecom company has partnered with Truecaller to help its users in identifying the spam calls. Additionally, Truecallers already offers Verified Business Solution which display brand identity and context about business calls to the users.

Vi has announced its partnership with Truecaller to help users in identifying fraud calls and spam messages. With this collaboration,Truecaller’s Verified Business Caller ID solution has been integrated with Vi’s customer service and sales team to bring in a secure customer communication experience.

This will also help users in identifying genuine calls from Vi customer service platform as they will carry a green caller ID, an unalterable brand name and logo, a verified business badge, a category tag, and the reason for the call.

Additionally, Truecaller’s Verified Business Solution display brand identity and context about business calls. “This feature has already benefited over 2000+ active businesses across India and other global markets,” said the company in its statement.

India is among one of the biggest markets for Truecaller. The company claims to have over 350 million active users.

It has been downloaded more than a billion times since launch and has identified and blocked nearly 50 billion unwanted calls in 2021.

Last month, the company reintroduced support for call recording on the app for smartphones.

The feature was previously only available on Android smartphones. However, it was discontinued after Google cracked down on apps using an API designed for accessibility features to record calls.

However, now the service has been rolled out on both an iPhone as well as an Android smartphone.

Faqs

1) Vi Integrates Truecaller’s Verified Business Caller ID Solution

Ans) Vi has announced a new partnership with Truecaller that will help it establish verified and secure communication with customers. The collaboration between the two companies is aimed at reducing the probability of someone falling for a scam or fraud phone call. This is a welcome move as fraudsters are well-known to pretend to be from businesses to scam people.
All verified Vi customer calls will be powered by Truecaller’s Verified Business Caller ID solution. The latter is a service that makes use of various reliable indicators to help users distinguish between authentic and scam calls. These include a green caller ID, a verified business badge, an unalterable brand name and logo, and a category tag. These identity signs will be missing from an unverified phone call.

Another good thing is that Vi customer calls will also show the reason for the call. It will help users know what the call is about which is beneficial in various situations like when you are not sure whether to pick the phone or when a phone call is missed.

Truecaller already offers AI-powered SMS fraud protection in India. This feature shows a Red coloured notification to warn users about a potential scam message. This notification will be visible on the screen until it is dismissed manually. Even if the user misses the notification, Truecaller automatically disables all the links present in the fraudulent message. These links are enabled only when the user manually marks the message as safe.
Truecaller call recording on iPhone and Android also made a return last month. The company had to take down the functionality due to policy changes from Apple and Google. It is now using a dedicated call recording line provided by a cloud telephony provider to offer call recording.

2) Commitment to Customer Support and Efficiency

Ans) Truecaller’s Verified Business Solution empowers business calls with brand identity and context, fostering reliable customer communication. Vodafone Idea said the solution has already benefitted over 2000 active businesses in India and other prominent global markets. It not only reduces call-related frauds and scams but also improves business call efficiency and safety in communications.

Faqs

1) Leaked Galaxy 23 FE Geekbench listings could give us a glimpse at key specs for the phone.Details?

Ans) Having just launched a new variant of the Galaxy S21 FE in India with the Snapdragon 888, Samsung is now shifting its focus on the next device in the lineup. Curiously, all recent leaks and rumors suggest that it could be marketed as the S23 FE rather than S22 FE. While its launch date remains a mystery, a couple of recent Geekbench listings have now revealed that Samsung could offer two versions of the device with different chipsets in the U.S. and global markets.

The first listing, which went live earlier this month, is for a Samsung device with the model ID ‘SM-S711B.’ This is tipped to be the global variant, and is expected to be sold in Europe, Asia, and other non-U.S. markets. As per the listing, it is powered by the Exynos 2200 SoC (listed as ‘motherboard s5e9925’), which has a tri-cluster architecture and is clocked at a maximum of 2.8GHz. It also has an integrated Xclipse 920 GPU. This particular variant sports 8GB of RAM, but it’s not clear if Samsung will offer a higher-end model with more memory.

The latest listing is for a variant codenamed ‘Samsung SM-S711U1.’ Unlike the earlier model, this one is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, listed on Geekbench as ‘motherboard Taro.’ This one also has a tri-cluster CPU, but is clocked slightly higher, at up to 3GHz. Like the Exynos model, this one also has 8GB of RAM. This variant is most likely the one coming to the U.S., as denoted by the ‘U’ in its model name. The twin listings also show that both variants are running Android 13.

2) Global Galaxy S23 FE to feature Exynos 2200, US version will get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.Details?

Ans) The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is coming in the third quarter of this year as the no-nonsene member of the Galaxy S23 series, but it looks like it won’t be united around the same chipset globally.

Geekbench runs and official support pages reveal the Galaxy S23 FE will run different chipsets, depending on the market. The global variant will carry the 4nm Exynos 2200 with 8GB of RAM. This is the same chipset as the Galaxy S22 Ultra and one that is criticized for being less energy efficient than its Qualcomm-made peer. The main reason behind the disparity in efficiency was reportedly Samsung’s 4nm manufacturing process, which wasn’t as efficient as TSMC’s 4nm process.

Incidentally, the US variant of the Galaxy S23 FE will be based on exactly that TSMC 4nm node courtesy of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. It too will be paired with 8GB of RAM.
Qualcomm is generally perceived as the better choice, so much so that Samsung even unveiled a Snapdragon 888-powered Galaxy S21 FE in India this week.

Infinix GT Series with Phone (2)-like backlights could launch in August: Infinix To Launch Nothing Phone-Like Smartphone, Nothing CEO Carl Pei Reacts

Infinix GT Series

HIGHLIGHTS

* Infinix has a new smartphone series coming up with focus on gaming.
* The upcoming Infinix phone will reportedly feature a design similar to the Nothing Phone (2).
* Nothing founder Carl Pei reacted to the news.
* Infinix is said to announce a new GT series phone in India next month.
* As of now, there is no confirmation on Infinix’s new GT series phone.

Infinix is said to announce a new GT series phone in India next month. Tipster Mukul Sharma claims on Twitter that the device is rumored to bear a striking resemblance to the recently launched Nothing Phone (2).

The Glyph Interface LED lights, which have captivated consumers on Nothing phones, could also feature in the design of Infinix’s new offering, as per the tipster.

This move seems to indicate that brands like Infinix are aiming to provide users with a similar experience at a more affordable price point.

The render shared by the tipster showcases an intriguing twist, suggesting that the Infinix phone might incorporate a unique Glyph pattern to enhance its distinctive appeal.

However, Nothing’s CEO, Carl Pei, has taken to Twitter to express his intent to protect the Glyph interface.
Pei asserts that the design is safeguarded by Nothing’s patents, and says that it is time to be prepared for potential legal action to prevent infringement by other smartphone manufacturers.

As of now, there is no official confirmation regarding the launch date of Infinix’s new GT series phone.

It remains to be seen if Infinix has indeed developed a device resembling the sought-after Nothing Phone.

Nothing Phone (2)
Nothing Phone (2)

Should the rumors prove true, it will be intriguing to witness how Infinix intends to convince users to choose their offering over its inspiration.

The tipster claims that the new Infinix phone, resembling the Nothing Phone, will hit the Indian market in August, generating further anticipation among consumers.

While specific details about the upcoming Infinix phone are scarce, there are speculations that it could be equipped with either a dual or triple rear camera setup.

Moreover, rumors suggest that the new Infinix GT phone may target gaming enthusiasts, although further information regarding its features remains undisclosed.

Looks like Infinix is Set to Shake Up the Indian Smartphone Market with its latest innovation

The first image re-posted by Mukul Sharma from the brand’s community platform X Club gives the sneak peak of GT.

The device looks very similar to the recently launched Nothing phone.
But given the brands track record of launching innovative technologies and feature led devices at competitive pricing, consumers definitely have something exciting to look forward to in the smartphone space!

From the current user sentiments coming in and the overall look and feel, this device seems to go heavy on gaming.

Carl Pei Responds

Infinix’s new smartphone series will be called ‘GT’, according to a tweet by Mukul Sharma. A render of the upcoming device has also been posted on the Infinix Community XClub.

It shows what’s supposed to be the back design of the upcoming Infinix smartphone. The render shows that there are dual rear cameras aligned vertically on the left corner of the smartphone.

What stands out though is the strikingly similar design to the Nothing Phone (2). Just like the LED light strips on the Phone (2), the Infinix smartphone also has the same design outlined on it.

We can’t confirm if it is going to be LED lights on the Infinix phone as well but the design is too similar to not consider the possibility. Nothing CEO Carl Pei who replied to the tweet saying, “Time to get the lawyers ready! 😂”

In recent news, the Nothing Phone (2) has recently made its debut in India with a starting price of Rs 44,999 and the sale will take place on July 21.

But consumers can buy it at a discounted price. It will effectively be available for Rs 41,999 via Flipkart if you make payments using Axis Bank and HDFC Bank cards.

This basically means that users are getting a big discount of Rs 3,000, making the deal attractive.

The mentioned price is for the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model. The 12GB + 256GB variant of the new Nothing phone will cost you Rs 49,999, but the bank offer will down the price to Rs 46,999.

Nothing-Phone-2-5

As for the upcoming Infinix phone, the company hasn’t made any official announcement yet. But according to the tipster, this smartphone is scheduled to launch in August. So we should start hearing about the upcoming phone very soon.

It also isn’t confirmed if the Infinix GT series will launch with one or more smartphones. The ‘GT’ branding is also familiar since Realme also has a GT smartphone series so that could draw some attention as well.

Infinix wouldn’t be the first to “copy” the Nothing design language in the industry, if it does plan to launch a phone with a similar-looking LED mechanism. A Nothing Phone (1) dupe was spotted at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier this year.

But sometime back, the specifications of the Infinix GT 10 Pro+ were leaked. The smartphone is expected to come with a punch-hole panel with an FHD+ resolution.
It may arrive with MediaTek Dimensity 8050 chipset. It will arrive with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of base internal storage option.

As for cameras, the device is said to come with triple cameras on the back with a 108MP main camera. The smartphone was spotted online with a 5,000mAh battery. Expect some sort of fast charger to be bundled with the phone.

It will likely boot on Android 13 OS out of the box. Interestingly, Infinix will offer ‘XOS for GT’ skin on top of Android, which will be a custom skin for GT phones.

Nothing Phone 2

In other news about Infinix, the company launched the Infinix Hot 30 5G recently in India. The smartphone comes with a modern design, a tall form factor, and ingress protection. It is one of the cheapest 5G phones with a massive 6,000mAh battery. The smartphone also has NFC support.

The smartphone sports a 6.78-inch center-punch-hole display with an FHD+ resolution. The LCD panel has an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. There’s a 50MP Samsung lens on the back and an 8MP camera on the front for selfies. The device can shoot 1440p video from the rear camera.

It is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6020 octa-core chipset with 4GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage.

It has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner offering added security. It boots on Android 13 OS out of the box with XOS 13 on top.
It comes with 18W fast charging and has a Type-C port. It’s a 5G phone that has 14 5G bands.

Faqs

1) Infinix To Launch Nothing Phone-Like Smartphone, Nothing CEO Carl Pei Reacts.Details?

Ans) The upcoming GT series phone will look similar to the Nothing Phone (2). The device may have similar lighting strips and shapes making it stand out from other phones. However, unlike Phone (2), the GT phone will likely be priced aggressively.

Nothing’s CEO Carl Pei has responded to the leaked schematic. He said, ‘Time to get the lawyers ready!’. Infinix as well replied to Pei saying ‘You have nothing to worry about’.
It appears that though the design will be similar, Infinix might add a slightly different kind of tech here. As per rumors, the company has the GT series of phones up its sleeve. The exact specs of the phones are unknown.

2) Infinix Nothing Phone (2) clone?

Ans) It is expected to be a gaming-focused smartphone with the Gylph-like lighting interface of the Nothing Phone (2) at the back. Likely, it will be used for notifications and more.
The issue here is it is too similar to the Nothing Phone (2).

Nothing CEO Carl Pei noticed theThe upcoming Infinix phone will reportedly feature a design similar to the Nothing Phone (2).
Nothing founder Carl Pei reacted to the news.

He Tweeted, “Time to get the lawyers ready! ”

OnePlus is launching its first foldable phone soon in the global markets.
The phone was earlier expected to be named the OnePlus V Fold but new reports have tipped that the OnePlus Open moniker has been finalised for the upcoming device.

The brand teased the release of the phone publicly during the OnePlus 11 launch event and confirmed a Q3 2023 launch.

As per a new leak, the OnePlus Open will be unveiled next month, on August 29th. Reliable tipster Max Jambor also corroborated the leaked launch date in a recent tweet.

The global event is expected to be held in New York. However, we still do not know how soon this new device will be available for sale.

According to circulating rumours, the upcoming OnePlus Open smartphone is speculated to feature a triple rear camera setup, possibly incorporating a periscope lens for enhanced zoom capabilities.

Leaks further suggest that this foldable smartphone might come equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for convenient unlocking and a display featuring a punch-hole camera design.

These rumoured features indicate that the OnePlus Open is poised to offer an impressive photography experience along with advanced biometric security and a modern display.

The smartphone is tipped to be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and run Android 13 operating system topped with the company’s customised OxygenOS Fold.

Jambor also revealed the likely launch timeline for the company’s upcoming flagship smartphone — OnePlus 12. The tipster suggests that OnePlus may launch the OnePlus 12 smartphone in December this year.

However, it will be only the China launch and the global launch is expected to happen early next year.

According to the leaked information, the flagship smartphone from OnePlus, the OnePlus 12, is rumoured to be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

Additionally, the OnePlus 12 is expected to feature a triple rear camera system developed in collaboration with Hasselblad. The rear camera setup is speculated to include a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 64MP periscope camera.

The periscope camera technology enhances the zoom capabilities of the smartphone, similar to how Google Pixel phones achieve up to 5x optical zoom and Samsung Ultra devices utilise it for their 10x telephoto lens. It seems that OnePlus may be adopting this technology as well.

There are no pricing details on the OnePlus Open yet but it should be less the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 following the brand’s usual pricing.

OnePlus revealed its new Nord series of smartphones earlier this month and is not expected to end its cycle of phone launches this year with OnePlus Open.

The OnePlus 12 is expected to make its way to the brand’s home country, China, in December with a slightly refreshed design and a periscope camera.

Last year when the first Nothing Phone debuted, it promised something individualistic to a monotonous smartphone landscape.
Many were quick to call Nothing’s design approach gimmicky even though the hype it generated was palpable.

Phone 1 was eventually appreciated for being a solid and reliable Android handset. Now, after exactly a year, Nothing Phone 2 is officially out this week and amidst all the hype it is time to take a closer look.

Nothing as a brand has a vibe that is both glam and futuristic. Phone 2 is a much more refined and higher resolution version of Phone 1 that gives significant upgrades across the board.

During the live-streamed keynote, CEO Carl Pei promises that Phone 2 is going to be the real premium flagship device.

Nothing Phone (2)

“With Phone 2, we deliver top-notch features while encouraging more intentional smartphone usage through hardware and software design innovation. A smartphone is a vital tool in our lives, but it has increasingly become a distracting force, making us less present and less creative,” said Pei during the live stream.

The new smartphone features a revamped Nothing OS 2.0, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Mobile Platform, a powerful 50MP dual rear camera, and a stunning 6.7-inch OLED display with LTPO.

The display comes with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1,600 nits of peak brightness. It has a 4,700mAh battery that supports wired and wireless charging. Phone 2 further incorporated up to 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage.

Phone 2 also features an enhanced Glyph Interface that has more LED segments to allow greater customizability and functionality. The Glyph Interface can now serve as a visual countdown, volume checker, timer, and progress tracker for third-party apps such as Uber or Zomato.

The OS 2.0 is based on Android 13. The brand has reworked the home and lock screen utility with widgets to access key functions without opening the apps. The Nothing OS 2.0 also feature a new monochrome layout and an option to remove the app label.

Before we get to our hands-on first impression, here’s a quick look at the key features.

Nothing Phone 2 – Design and Build Quality

Nothing Phone 2 Design

The Phone 2 presents a much more refined and premium design compared to its predecessor. The flagship version also gets a significant number of upgrades across the board that impresses both on paper and in hand.

Despite being slightly thicker on paper, the Phone 2 cleverly utilizes design elements that give it a perceived thinner profile when held in hand.

With a thickness of 8.5mm, the Phone 2 surpasses Phone 1’s 8.3mm measurement but achieves a visual effect through thoughtful design choices that make it appear thinner.

Contributing to the Phone 2’s perceived thinness is the reduction of the aluminium mid-frame on the sides.

By reducing it by 1mm, Nothing has managed to create an illusion of slenderness, resulting in a sleek and elegant feel when holding the device.

This attention to detail is commendable as it not only enhances the aesthetics but also contributes to an improved user experience.

The 3D pillow glass at the back curves around the edges and instantly makes the phone look premium to look at.

The transparent design aesthetic, that we have previously seen in Nothing Buds and Nothing Phone 1, has now been extended to the Type-C cable bundled with the Nothing Phone 2.

The Type-C cable has a transparent middle part with Nothing branding inside. The Nothing Phone peripherals now adopting a similar design establishes the brand’s individualistic approach to positioning itself in the market.

Nothing Phone 2 – The Glyph Interface

Nothing Phone 2 – The Glyph Interface

Undoubtedly the most hyped aspect of the Nothng phone is the Glyph Interface since the first time it was introduced before the launch of Phone 1. This time, with Phone 2, we are getting a better design and a more capable Glyph interface.

The enhanced Glyph Interface has more LED segments to allow greater customizability and functionality. The Glyph Interface can now serve as a visual countdown and progress tracker for ride or delivery services.

It also offers additional functionalities such as a volume checker, and timer. When receiving a notification from selected contacts or apps, the top-right LED segment will remain on until it has been addressed.

The Glyph interface in Phone 2 has been redesigned. The new interface now has an extra number of LED segments compared to Phone 1.

The upgrades in design give it the ability to assign personalized light and sound sequences to contacts and apps. When receiving a notification from them, the top-right LED segment will remain on until addressed.

With Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip enabling camera processing, the Phone 2 gets an 18-bit ISP that captures over 4,000 times the camera data than the Phone 1’s 14-bit predecessor.

The phone is bringing an advanced HDR to address the over-exposure of images when in direct sunlight. The advanced HDR breaks the image into 8 frames of different exposure and then stitches them back together to get the best results.

There is a significant upgrade here from the 3-frame break out that the usual Phone 1 HDR was capable of.

The Nothing Phone 2 seems to have also addressed the issues most camera face in capturing moving subjects. The brand is introducing Motion Capture 2.0 which intelligently detects moving objects to ensure distorting-free and noise-free final images.

It supports 4K recording at 60fps on the main rear camera. The main lens also has EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization). The front camera records at 1080p at 60fps.
