Motorola has turned another page in its chapter of the G series, with the launch of the Moto G64.

Priced starting at Rs 14,999, at least on paper, it delivers on the promise of value without compromising on aesthetics or performance.

There has been criticism levied at the G series for its repetitive design in the past but it looks like this model aims to break the mold with a fresh and appealing matte finish.

I had the chance to use the Moto G64 for a while and here is my complete review for it.

Moto G64 5G: Design

Within minutes of using the Moto G64 5G, it was clear to me that the handset marks a new chapter in the design narrative of Motorola’s G series.

While the lineup has traditionally not strayed far from its established aesthetic, resulting in a somewhat predictable look over the years, the Moto G64 5G changes this familiarity with subtle yet impactful design tweaks.

The device sports a sleeker profile and a more refined finish, showing Motorola’s attempt to inject a fresh vibrancy into the lineup, although it still treads familiar ground, which might feel a bit tiring for long-time followers expecting more radical changes.

The Moto G64 5G has a super-thin 8.89 mm body and a lightweight design at just 192 grams, making it both sleek and comfortable to hold.

Moto G64 5G: Display

The rest of the device is pretty ordinary with nothing special of note although I do like the introduction of a 3D Premium PMMA body in hues that gives the Moto G64 a fresh and appealing frosted matte finish.

The display is a generous 6.5-inch IPS LCD, offering a Full HD+ resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate.

While not the best in the segment, in my opinion, the setup ensures smooth visuals whether you’re scrolling through social media or enjoying video content, supported by vibrant colours and enhanced clarity that make viewing a delight.

The device also boasts Corning Gorilla Glass for added screen protection against scratches and drops.

Moto has implemented a redesigned aspect ratio and enhanced brightness up to 560 nits allowing for better outdoor visibility but I think it needs to catch up to what the competition has to offer.

Moto G64: Cameras

Moto G64 5G: Cameras
Moto G64 5G: Cameras

In my time testing the Moto G64 5G, the camera setup has turned out to be quite a delightful surprise.

It’s equipped with a robust array of cameras, including a main 50MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture, enhanced by Quad Pixel technology and OIS, and an 8MP ultra-wide which also does macro. The front-facing camera sports a capable 16MP sensor.

The main 50MP camera impressively handles a variety of lighting conditions.

The inclusion of OIS is a significant boon, helping to stabilise images and reduce the blurriness that often mars photos taken with budget devices.

I used the phone extensively across various lighting conditions and came to notice that this feature particularly shines in low-light environments, where it aids in capturing clearer, less grainy shots.

It’s not just about clarity; the colour fidelity in dimly lit settings is commendable given the phone’s budget pricetag, avoiding the washed-out effects typically seen in this phone category.

While the Night Vision mode can sometimes over-brighten scenes, it’s nonetheless beneficial for enhancing visibility in extremely dark conditions.

The ultra-wide camera also proves its worth by allowing me to capture broader scenes without needing to reposition—a handy feature for expansive landscapes or group shots.

The Portrait mode on the Moto G64 5G, much like higher-end models, effectively isolates subjects with a pleasingly blurred background, adding an artistic touch to simple portraits.

While it’s clear that the Moto G64 5G won’t rival the performance of high-end flagship cameras, especially in scenarios demanding high zoom levels or complex lighting, it is more than adequate for everyday photography.

Moto G64 5G: Performance and Features

As for its performance capabilities, the Moto G64 5G is the first smartphone to house the new MediaTek Dimensity 7025 chipset.

This processor, with its octa-core CPU that peaks at 2.5GHz, alongside the IMG BXM-8-256 GPU, offers a noticeably smooth and responsive user experience.

It is a reasonably good choice of silicone for a budget device and the Moto G64 5G handles day-to-day tasks, from browsing social media to streaming high-definition videos, all without a hitch.

Gaming performance is decent enough; the Dimensity 7025 ensures games run smoothly at low graphics, with minimal lag and efficient loading times.

Apart from that the compact build of the chipset not only boosts the phone’s overall speed but also enhances its power efficiency, which is crucial for maintaining battery life throughout heavy use.

Additionally, the Moto G64 5G features 12GB of RAM in its higher variant, which makes multitasking a breeze.

Switching between apps is fluid, and the phone can keep multiple apps running in the background without any slowdown.

Storage options are also generous, with up to 256GB of internal space that is expandable via a microSD card, providing ample room for all your apps, photos, videos, and games.

The phone also supports dual SIM 5G, offering good connectivity while its comprehensive support for multiple 5G bands ensures gave me no trouble in terms of mobile data.

Moto G64: Software and Battery

Moto G64: Software and Battery
Moto G64: Software and Battery

In terms of features, the Moto G64 5G is packed with useful enhancements.

It includes Motorola’s My UX interface, which is basically a stock UI sprinkled with some of Moto’s choicest elements.

This interface is user-friendly and also integrates smoothly with the latest Android 14 OS.

Seldom skins in the Android world are as clean and intuitive as MyUX, which definitely gives it a good rating in my book.

And if that was not enough, Moto has promised timely updates, with a guarantee of an upgrade to Android 15 and three years of security updates.

The Moto G64 5G excels in battery life which isn’t a surprise given its hefty 6000mAh battery.

The device effortlessly supports a full day of extensive usage, including high-demand activities like streaming and gaming.

Furthermore, the Moto G64 5G features 33W Turbo Charging technology, allowing for a decently rapid battery replenishment.

Although by no means the fastest in its segment, a mere 15 minutes of charging can power several hours of use.

Notably, the phone manages to stay cool during charging sessions, for which you can thank some nifty power management that contributes to the battery’s longevity.

The Moto G64 gets my nod as the budget device to beat this season.

Google Photos to Offer a Decluttering Option for Unwanted Memes and GIFs

Hide Memories in Google Photos

Highlights

  • New “Hide clutter” option to remove memes and screenshots from the main Photos tab.
  • Clutter moved to designated folders within the Library tab for better organization.
  • Update includes a redesigned Memories section with a more attractive layout.
  • Introduction of “AI features by Labs” for AI-powered photo captioning and more.

If your Google Photos library is inundated with random memes, GIFs, and screenshots, relief might be on the way.

Recent findings suggest that Google is developing a new feature that will allow users to hide such unwanted media content from their feeds.

Google Photos to Offer a Decluttering Option for Unwanted Memes and GIFs

The potential addition was discovered by AssembleDebug within the latest Android update for the Google Photos app (version 6.79.0.624777117).

Among the most notable changes is an option labelled “Hide clutter,” which promises to be a game-changer for those seeking a more curated photo library.

While the feature won’t permanently delete the files from your device, it will effectively conceal them from the main “Photos” tab within the app.

Instead, these cluttering items will be tucked away in their respective folders under the “Library” tab, ensuring that your primary photo gallery remains free of visual noise.

Moreover, Google appears to be revamping the “Memories” section of the app, which currently displays random collages of your past photos and events.

The update suggests that Memories will adopt a more visually appealing layout, with rectangular thumbnails featuring rounded edges and a cover image taken from the album itself.

A Smaller Display in iPhone 17 Plus

Rumour Mill: Apple's iPhone 17 Plus May Shrink in Screen Size
Rumour Mill: Apple’s iPhone 17 Plus May Shrink in Screen Size

According to well-known Apple leaker and consultant Ross Young, the iPhone 17 Plus, expected to debut in 2025, might have a display size that falls between the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

While the exact dimensions remain undisclosed, this move would mark a notable departure from Apple’s recent trend of increasing screen sizes with each new generation.

Young’s claim comes as a surprise, especially since the iPhone 16 Plus, slated for release later this year, is anticipated to maintain the same display size as its predecessor, the iPhone 15 Plus.

This consistency in screen real estate has been a hallmark of Apple’s approach, making the rumoured downsizing of the iPhone 17 Plus all the more intriguing.

While the rationale behind this potential decision is unclear, industry analysts speculate that Apple may be seeking to further differentiate the iPhone 17 Plus from the flagship iPhone 17 Pro Max model.

Interestingly, rumours also suggest that the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro models will receive a slight screen size increase, with the iPhone 16 Pro Max boasting a 6.9-inch OLED panel and the iPhone 16 Pro featuring a 6.3-inch display.

Meanwhile, the non-Pro iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to retain their 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays, respectively.

As the rumour mill continues to churn, Apple enthusiasts and industry watchers alike will be eagerly anticipating official confirmation or denial of these claims.

FAQs

What is the rumoured screen size change for the iPhone 17 Plus?

Apple insider Ross Young has hinted that the upcoming iPhone 17 Plus, set to launch in 2025, may feature a smaller display compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 16 Plus.

While specific dimensions haven’t been disclosed, this change suggests an alteration in screen size that positions the iPhone 17 Plus closer in size to the iPhone 17 Pro rather than the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

How does the potential screen size reduction of the iPhone 17 Plus compare to previous models?

Traditionally, Apple has maintained or increased screen sizes with each new iteration of its iPhone lineup.

The iPhone 17 Plus’s rumoured smaller display marks a significant shift from this trend, offering a more compact alternative within the Plus model category.

Why might Apple consider reducing the screen size of the iPhone 17 Plus?

Industry analysts speculate that by adjusting the screen size of the iPhone 17 Plus, Apple aims to sharpen the distinctions between its Plus and Pro Max models, potentially catering to a segment of consumers who prefer a larger than standard phone without reaching the maximum size offered by the Pro Max.

What are the expected screen sizes for the other models in the iPhone 16 and 17 series?

For the upcoming iPhone 16 series, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is rumoured to sport a 6.9-inch OLED display, while the iPhone 16 Pro might come with a 6.3-inch screen.

The standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to continue with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays, respectively. This variation provides options for different user preferences and needs across the range.

To activate Circle to Search, users long-press on the navigation bar and then draw a circle around any text or image they wish to search.

The feature then uses Google Lens to identify and search for the circled content.

Why are there accidental triggers of Circle to Search?

Many users experience accidental triggers of Circle to Search due to its sensitive activation method via the navigation bar.

This often happens during routine tasks like app switching.

What is Google doing to improve Circle to Search?

Google has acknowledged the issue of accidental triggers and is working on updates to make sure the feature only activates when intentionally used.

The company aims to refine the user experience to prevent these unintended activations.

Highlights

  • Capture button added for camera control.
  • Slight increase in chassis size.
  • Expected A17 chip and enhanced camera features.
  • Launch anticipated in September.

More physical dummy models representing Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 range have emerged online, seemingly reinforcing many of the design changes tipped for this year’s release.

New iPhone 16 Design Details

The new mock-up units have been shared by a reputable leaker and show consistency with previous dummy device leaks over recent months.

If accurate, they provide our clearest look yet at the iPhone 16’s revised looks.

The most noticeable addition is the rumoured new ‘Capture’ button, seemingly taking the place of the mmWave antenna window on the right side.

These dummy units depict it as a large, elongated button situated below the power key.

Expected A17 chip and enhanced camera features

Its precise functionality remains unclear, but the Capture button is widely expected to act as a camera shutter key, allowing one-touch focus and capture much like on dedicated cameras.

A light press could initiate focus before a firmer press takes the shot.

Aside from the new button, the iPhone 16 dummies also appear to show subtly larger chassis dimensions compared to the current iPhone 14 series.

This lines up with rumours of very slightly increased display sizes, potentially reaching up to 6.86 inches for the Pro Max model.

Despite its affordable cost, leaked specs suggest the Narzo 70x will still pack a reasonably capable array of hardware.

It’s tipped to feature a large 6.72-inch FHD+ 120Hz LCD display with 950 nits peak brightness.

Under the hood, rumours point to a MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ chip with Mali-G57 GPU, backed by LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.2 storage.

The phone should also ship with Android 14 out of the box.

In the camera department, a 50MP main sensor is expected to lead a dual rear setup, accompanied by a 2MP auxiliary lens.

Selfie duties will likely be handled by an 8MP front-facing shooter.

Other highlights being discussed include a sizeable 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging support, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and IP54 water resistance rating.

Dual stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack and Wi-Fi 5 connectivity are also rumoured.

Realme itself has already confirmed a few key details ahead of the April 24th launch event.

The Narzo 70x will indeed feature 5G, run the latest Android version, and crucially undercut the Rs12,000 price point.

If the leaked specs prove accurate, the Narzo 70x shapes up as an enticing budget all-rounder for the Indian market.

With unrivalled local pricing and brand support, it could give Redmi and Infinix’s cheaper 5G phones some stiff competition.

YouTube Tests New ‘Most Relevant’ Subscription Feed on Mobile

YouTube Tests New 'Most Relevant' Subscription Feed on Mobile

Highlights

  • Introduction of a “Most Relevant” feed for mobile users.
  • Personalization based on user interaction and viewing history.
  • Optional feature with easy toggling between traditional and new feeds.
  • Limited roll-out to gather user feedback and refine the feature.

YouTube has begun experimenting with a new way to sort and display content from the channels you’re subscribed to.

A small number of mobile users now have access to an optional “Most Relevant” feed for their Subscriptions.

A New Feed For Subscribers

YouTube Tests New 'Most Relevant' Subscription Feed on Mobile
YouTube Tests New ‘Most Relevant’ Subscription Feed on Mobile

Instead of just showing videos in chronological order as the default feed does, this test mode aims to surface more personalized recommendations.

YouTube will prioritize showing uploads from creators you interact with frequently or watch most often.

The idea is to cut through inbox noise and highlight videos you’re most likely to be interested in based on your viewing habits and preferences.

However, joining the test is completely optional.

Those selected to try out the “Most Relevant” Subscriptions feed will see a new button or avatar appear at the top of the regular feed.

Tapping this toggles between the standard chronological view and the personalized one ranking channels by relevance.

So if you’re happy sticking with the current straightforward Subscriptions layout, you can just ignore the test and continue watching new uploads as they arrive.

YouTube stresses the default experience isn’t going anywhere.

Currently A Small Scale Roll-out

YouTube Updates Policies
Limited roll-out to gather user feedback and refine the feature

The experiment is rolling out gradually to just a small percentage of YouTube’s mobile userbase for now.

Wider availability will depend on the feedback and data gathered during this limited trial.

YouTube frequently runs these kinds of novice feature tests to gauge audience interest and fine-tune ideas before potentially launching them more broadly.

Trying smarter recommendation algorithms for Subscriptions could make it easier to stay on top of your favourite creators.

FAQs

What is the ‘Most Relevant’ feed on YouTube?

YouTube’s ‘Most Relevant’ feed is an experimental feature that sorts subscription videos not by upload time but by what YouTube thinks you’ll prefer to watch.

It bases its suggestions on your past interactions and viewing habits.

How do I access this new feed?

Those included in the test will see a new button or avatar on their subscription feed.

By tapping it, users can switch between the classic chronological layout and the new personalized feed.

Will this feature replace the current subscription feed?

No, YouTube has made it clear that the ‘Most Relevant’ feed is an optional test. Users can choose to stick with the conventional chronological feed if they prefer.

How is YouTube deciding which videos are most relevant?

The platform uses algorithms that analyze your interaction frequency and viewing preferences with subscribed channels to tailor the content shown in the ‘Most Relevant’ feed.

What happens if I’m not interested in participating in this test?

If you’re selected but prefer the usual layout, you can simply continue using the default chronological feed without opting into the test.
