Their glass already graces some of the best mobile cams out there, so pairing it with Blue Image’s digital trickery could be a masterstroke.
If the rumour mill churns out truth, the X100 Ultra is packing some serious camera heat too.
We’re talking a wild 200MP periscope lens for crazy zoom reach, plus a 50MP main snapper, an ultrawide, and another tele cam. Sheesh.
Dethrone the King?
Vivo can truly deliver on that Blue Image promise
Frankly, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultrais still the Android cam champ for my money. Its low-light game and versatile lens setup are just chef’s kiss.
But if Vivo can truly deliver on that Blue Image promise? They might finally dethrone the South Korean giant.
A Glimpse at Blue’s Potential
Offers potential to surpass Samsung’s Nightography as the top mobile camera
For a taster of what Blue Image could bring, just gawp at the stunning shots from last year’s X100 Pro.
Vibrant colours, gorgeous bokeh for days, and and depth like you’re peering into a diorama. If the Ultra builds on that foundation with its new tech? We could be seeing real DSLR-beating skills.
Of course, all this Blue Image hoopla could just be marketing spiel to get the hype train rolling.
But even as a cynical old photog, I’m itching to see if Vivo’s put their money where their mouth is. If it lives up to the hype, we could finally have a Samsung slayer on our hands for mobile photography supremacy. Now that’s exciting!
What is Blue Image technology in the Vivo X100 Ultra?
Blue Image is Vivo’s advanced camera technology designed to enhance low-light photography and backlit portraits, integrating high-end optics and sophisticated image processing.
How does the Vivo X100 Ultra’s camera compare to Samsung’s cameras?
The Vivo X100 Ultra aims to surpass Samsung’s camera technology, particularly in low-light settings, by leveraging its Blue Image technology and a 200MP periscope lens.
What role do Zeiss optics play in the Vivo X100 Ultra?
Zeiss optics enhance the Vivo X100 Ultra’s camera performance, providing sharper images and better color accuracy, integral to the effectiveness of the Blue Image technology.
Can the Vivo X100 Ultra’s camera see in complete darkness?
While not literally seeing in complete darkness, the Blue Image technology significantly enhances visibility in low-light conditions, making it superior for night photography.
Is the Vivo X100 Ultra a good choice for professional photographers?
With features like a 200MP periscope camera, advanced low-light capabilities, and Zeiss optics, the Vivo X100 Ultra is well-suited for photographers looking for high-quality mobile photography.
And from what the rumour mill’s been churning out, the iPhone 16 lineup looks set to double down on that divide when it arrives this fall.
Show Me the Money!
iPhone 16 Pro rumored to feature titanium chassis and Capture button
Of course, we’re still ages away from getting pricing deets.
But going off past form, you can expect to shell out a couple of hundred quid more for the Pro model over the standard iPhone 16. Maybe $799 and $999 price tags respectively? Just a ballpark, mind you.
Design and Display Departures
iPhone 16 and 16 Pro will likely keep that signature iPhone look
Though word is the Pro could rock a fancy titanium chassis this time around.
There are also whispers about an extra ‘Capture’ button on the Pro for quick camera access. Nifty.
Display-wise, the cheaper iPhone 16 is tipped to stick with that trusty 6.1-inch screen size. But its premium Pro sibling might go large with a 6.3-inch panel.
The really juicy bit? Only the 16 Pro is expected to get that silky 120Hz ProMotion display. Bit of a gut-punch for the regular model.
Snap Happy
Exclusive 120Hz ProMotion display and periscope camera for iPhone 16 Pro
When it comes to cameras, Apple will really want to give the Pro some verhaa. Insiders reckon it’ll get a serious overhaul – upgraded main sensor, better ultrawide lens, and most tantalisingly, a super-zoomy periscope telephoto cam with 5x optical reach. Tasty.
Meanwhile, the basic iPhone 16 could be left making do with digital zoom and no dedicated telephoto snapper. Though it might pinch the Pros’ neat Spatial Video trick at least.
SoC Champs and Battery
Both models might debut with the new A18 chip, enhancing performance
Here’s a big one – Apple may finally ditch using last year’s Pro silicon for the base iPhone 16.
We’re talking a smarter, super-powered version of Siri that can handle way more complex tasks than the current version.
Just how much AI grunt you’ll get may depend on your chip though.
There are suggestions that older iPhones might have to lean on cloud processing for certain AI capabilities if their hardware can’t keep up.
So there you have it – a whole lot of whispers and speculation to ponder as we count down to the iPhone 16 unveiling later this year.
One thing’s for sure, Apple won’t let the Pro model rest on its laurels when it comes to premium features and performance.

While both pack the same MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chip, the Blaze Curve surprisingly edged out higher single and multi-core Geekbench scores.
Those numbers suggest it might handle demanding tasks a tad more efficiently under heavy loads.
AnTuTu benchmark testing CPU and GPU muscle
However, the tables turned in the AnTuTu benchmark testing CPU and GPU muscle.
Here, the Realme P1 scored higher overall, while also proving more efficient – consuming just 5% battery compared to 10% on the Blaze Curve, though it did run hotter.
Throttling Tests
Throttling Tests
To really stress them out, the 91mobiles team fired up the Burnout throttling test simulating prolonged heavy use.
The Lava phone proved more consistent at maintaining peak performance over time while better managing its thermals.
For real-world testing, 91mobiles used some graphic-intensive games like BGMI. Both could hit that sweet 120Hz refresh rate with HDR enabled and played games smoothly.
But after 30 minutes, the Blaze Curve came out ahead – sipping less battery at 6% versus 7% on the Realme while running just a hair cooler.
Clearly the Realme is not stressed by the graphics on offer but the Lava Blaze Curve, as demanded by its pricetag, is just a better device to play heavy-duty games on.
The Verdict
The Verdict
So based on 91mobiles’ rigorous testing across benchmarks and actual gaming, the higher-priced Lava Blaze Curve consistently exhibited a slight performance edge over Realme’s affordable powerhouse.
Other Factors
Other Factors
Of course, there are other factors to weigh too – the Realme rocks a higher-res 64MP main camera compared to 50MP on the Lava.
It also ships with Android 14 out of the box instead of 13, offers faster 45W charging to the Lava’s 33W, and retains the 3.5mm headphone jack.
But if raw performance is your top priority in this price range, the Lava Blaze Curve seems to hold a modest yet measurable advantage based on these test results from the 91mobiles team.
Solid value from both, but the Blaze gets the performance crown.

I literally have layered @Apple Id password prompts on both my iPhone and iPad because once again, my account is locked… Why does this keep happening? @AppleSupport
— Bobby Thompson (@BobbyThompson) April 26, 2024
That process of resetting your password is the only way back in.
There doesn’t appear to be any clear reason why this is happening for specific accounts.
Not sure if this has something to do with those huge waves of log-outs related to those problems over password breaches that Apple has had recently.
Chances are that those are different things, but who knows at this point.
Another serious headache is having Find My or Activation Lock on and then getting automatically logged out, likely when you are not around a trusted location.
One more annoyance, though: changing your Apple ID password makes all those app-specific passwords you may have set up worthless, too.
I was mid FaceTime with @milesabovetech and my Apple account got locked and signed out of all of my Apple products

Congo accuses Apple of using illegally extracted minerals.
Apple denies direct financial connections to armed groups.
Allegations include serious human rights abuses in mineral sourcing.
Recent US court ruling dismissed related child labor claims against tech companies.
The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo has officially accused Apple Inc. of using minerals that have been illegally extracted from the conflict-ridden eastern regions of the nation in the production of its devices.
These legal representatives of the African country alleged that Apple uses minerals smuggled out of the DRC and into neighboring Rwanda, where they are legitimized, and then included in the international supply chain.
Apple responded
Congo accuses Apple of using illegally extracted minerals
Responding to an AFP request for a reaction, Apple France said it will carefully study the formal notice of termination of the prelitigation before reacting comprehensively.
Instead, the company said that based on its best efforts of due diligence, it had not found reasonable grounds to conclude that any of its smelters or refiners of tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold directly or indirectly financed or benefited armed groups operating in the DRC or adjoining countries in any manner as of December 31, 2023.
The Great Lakes region holds great deposits of mineral resources, hence the high levels of violence in this region.
The regional tension that started getting out of control in the 1990s and erupted anew late in 2021, when the M23 rebel movement launched a fresh assault to recapture major territory.
The DRC, the United Nations, and Western nations have repeatedly accused Rwanda of backing the rebels, including the M23, in order to keep a grip on the region’s huge mineral wealth.
Human Rights Violation Accusation
Apple denies direct financial connections to armed groups
Apple’s court representation has stated that the technology provided by Apple has actually commercialized minerals that come from an area in which grave human rights abuses, including sexual violence, armed attacks, and widespread corruption at mining sites, have left the local population decimated.
They said that those products—Macs, iPhones, and more—contained the “blood of the Congolese people.”
In another related development, a US federal appeals court recently threw out a lawsuit by Apple, Google, Tesla, and other technological behemoths on grounds of child labor in cobalt mining in DRC.
Even though it awarded them legal standing, the DC Circuit Court of Appeals ruled unanimously that the plaintiffs failed to meet the legal threshold necessary to sustain their claims against the companies.
Recent US court ruling dismissed related child labor claims against tech companies
With the rapid change going towards clean energy around the world, there is a growing, pulsating demand for lithium ion batteries to power smart phones, laptops, and electric vehicles.
The DRC supplies over 70 percent of the world’s cobalt, a critical component in these batteries.
Yet up to 30 percent of the country’s cobalt is sourced from according to some estimates, these are “artisanal mines,” where thousands of freelance miners work in conditions described as “subhuman” and “degrading,” being paid only a few dollars a day.
FAQs
What are the accusations against Apple regarding minerals?
The Democratic Republic of Congo has accused Apple of using minerals in their devices that are illegally mined and smuggled from conflict areas within the country, contributing to regional violence.
How has Apple responded to these allegations?
Apple stated that its due diligence efforts up to December 31, 2023, have not shown any direct or indirect financial benefits to armed groups from the minerals used in their products.
What are the implications of using conflict minerals?
Conflict minerals, such as cobalt and tungsten, are often sourced in ways that fuel violence, violate human rights, and exploit workers, including children, in mining regions like the DRC.
What is the significance of the minerals mentioned in the allegations?
The minerals in question—tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold—are crucial for manufacturing consumer electronics like smartphones and laptops, making ethical sourcing vital for companies like Apple.
What legal actions have been taken regarding these issues?
A US federal appeals court recently dismissed a lawsuit alleging child labor practices in cobalt mining used for products by Apple and other tech firms, citing insufficient legal grounds to proceed with the claims.
Like the Galaxy S phones, these could be a main camera, an ultrawide lens, and a zoom camera. The current Flip models don’t have a zoom camera yet.
New Galaxy Z Flip Renders
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 May Feature Triple Camera Setup: Reports
Samsung has been making foldable flip phones under the Flip name since 2020. They’ll soon release their sixth model, the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Each new version gets some improvements over the last one.
Over the years, the cover screen got bigger, the hinge got slimmer, the thickness went down, and the build quality got better.
Samsung also made the cameras better on these phones. However, they never added a zoom lens yet.
The Flip series is the only $1,000+ Samsung product without a zoom camera. Last year’s Z Flip 5 didn’t have it, and leaks suggest the upcoming model won’t either – it seems to just have two rear cameras again.
Three Cameras on Z Flip?
Design patents suggest a possible third lens for the upcoming foldable
Meanwhile, a site called Galaxy Club found two Samsung design patents showing three rear cameras on a Flip phone. One has the cameras and flash stacked vertically next to the cover display. The other separates the rectangular cover display from the cameras.
Supposedly Samsung filed for these patents in summer 2022 and got them approved in early 2023.
That was before they enlarged the cover screen and flattened the hinge on the latest models. So maybe Samsung already used some of these patented designs on the Z Flip 5, and will add the third camera later.
It’s unclear if the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will actually get three rear cameras. We also don’t know if that third lens would be a telephoto zoom or something else.
Rumours about Samsung’s 2025 foldables may start in a few months, after the expected July launch of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6. We’ll keep watching for any updates.
FAQs
