Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, according to a tweet from a Samsung leaker, is expected to feature the largest-ever battery witnessed on a Samsung flagship smartphone. The Galaxy S24 Plus is also tipped to house the same-sized battery.
However, the Ultra variant, being a premium model, may offer the fastest charging capabilities seen on a Samsung phone.
The Galaxy S24 series is reportedly in the works and is likely to launch in the first quarter of 2024.
While the Galaxy S23 lineup was made available with the Snapdragon chip across the world, it is speculated that the Galaxy S24 series will be made available in Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 variants in different markets.
Samsung could bump the charging power on the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, according to a new tip. The current Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra offer up to 45W fast charging while the vanilla S23 only gets 25W, and this has been the same since 2019.
On the Galaxy S24 series, the fast charging speed could go up to 65W from the current 45W.
When it comes to battery capacity, the Galaxy S24+ and Ultra are said to pack a 5,000mAh battery. This remains unchanged from the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Samsung released its first phone with support for 45W wired charging in 2019 (Galaxy Note10+) and hasn’t moved an inch above that. In fact, 45W is still quite rare in Samsung’s line-up. Things may finally start to change with the arrival of stacked batteries, which is tech borrowed from EVs.
According to @RGCloudS, the stacked battery will be featured in the Galaxy S24 Ultra and possibly the S24+.
It depends on the supply chain – currently Samsung is just running tests with batteries made at a Chinese plant as the plant in Cheonan is still waiting for manufacturing equipment to arrive.
One of the advantages of stacked batteries is faster charging – the S24 Ultra will go up to 65W (up from 45W for the 2023 model). Both the S24 Ultra and S24+ batteries will reportedly have 5,000mAh capacity, but the Ultra will have additional cooling, allowing it to hit the higher charge rate.
There may not be enough production capacity to also upgrade the small Galaxy S24, which could be stuck at 25W for yet another year.
Once the stacked battery tech proves itself (and supply constraints are lifted), however, it could be used in the future Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 too. By the way, Apple is expected to use stacked batteries for all iPhone 15 models.
Samsung Galaxy S24 series stacked batteries: might be reserved for top of the line models
Samsung is planning to use stacked batteries in the Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra, according to tipster RGcloudS.
Stacking, as opposed to winding technology that is currently in use, helps improve charging and performance as well and is the same technology that is used in EVs. Apple’s iPhone 15 series is also using stacked batteries, according to the tipster.
However, this will be limited to the Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra due to limited production.
There’s also a possibility that it might even be reserved only for the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This could mean that the Galaxy S24 will continue with 25W fast charging but nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
The tipster adds that on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the stacked batteries will come with a cooling gel so that there’s less heat dissipation from the phone.
There’s still no confirmation though as Samsung is currently running tests, and it would take some time to finalise on which models this battery tech will be used.
Samsung is currently prepping for its next Unpacked event scheduled to take place on July 26th.
It’s where Samsung will unveil its next-gen foldables, most likely the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5.
We could see more devices including the Galaxy Tab S8 series, new Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Watch as well.
