Why are Android users switching to the iOS ecosystem?

0
iOS ecosystem

People typically have to decide between two of the most well-liked operating systems when purchasing a new phone. According to Statista, in order to take advantage of iOS’s superior functionalities, 52% of Android users said they were likely to switch from Android to iOS. Here are some reasons why Android users are switching to iOS ecosystem:

Information security

Apple smartphones are considered to be more secure than Android devices, according to all information security firms. According to a Forbes survey, Android phones are the target of 97% of smartphone malware.

Malware and viruses are especially spread through app stores of Android Operating System to Android devices. Apple’s App Shop features fewer apps than the app store on Android phones, however the amount of accessible apps is not the most essential aspect of Apple app stores. Apple is quite selective about which app developers are allowed access to the so-called Apple ecosystem, which includes a network of hardware, software, and developers. It is nearly tough to get malicious apps approved for the App Store.

Google Play, the app store of Google, is a free, ad-supported platform where anybody may display their apps. Android enables the installation of programs from sources other than the Google Play store, making it hard to monitor apps for the presence of spyware and viruses.

Old version of OS systems and the app store can pose security risks. Due to the fact that a variety of phone manufacturers use the Google-provided operating system, not all of them receive upgrades at the same time and are therefore subject to serious security risks. Since Apple is the only manufacturer of iOS devices, the similar issue is eliminated.

The Apple ecosystem

iOS ecosystem

In recent years, Apple’s has expanded its range of products significantly. The company initially produced PCs, but has since expanded its product range to include music players, tablet computers, and smart watches. Apple now offers a wide variety of products and services to cater to different needs.

Together, the devices operate smoothly and easily. It is not necessary to download or install different software to connect them; simply signing in to the devices with the same Apple ID is sufficient. All the devices can exchange calendars, emails, notes, and photos. Additionally, since they are available on all of your devices, you don’t have to pay twice for applications, movies, or books.

The user safety is also ensured by the closed ecosystem. When devices, users, manufacturers, and app developers are all part of the same ecosystem, the operating environment is secure.

However, Android phones face a different set of problems. Since many different manufacturers create phones and tablets that use the same operating system, a secure environment and seamless use of the various devices together cannot be ensured.

Ease of use

Apple phones are well-known for their user-friendly interface. Their simplicity of operation comes from the concept that all apps are opened from the home screens, which also contributes to their usability. For instance, there is a single menu that contains all of the settings. Additionally, the operating system continues to function in the same manner even if you upgrade your iPhone to the most recent model, making it simple to use.

Although an android phone can be customized in a variety of ways, the operating system’s fundamental functions are significantly more difficult to understand and comprehend than those of an iOS device. An iPhone is the obvious pick if you value a nice, simple-to-use smartphone.

Get the best apps first

The creators of the best and most high-quality apps continue to support Apple. The majority of apps choose the Apple App Store as their launch venue and make their apps available there considerably earlier than they do in the Google Play store for Android phones. Some of the most well-liked apps in recent years, such as Super Mario Run and Snapchat, are great example of this.

There’s a chance that certain apps won’t ever be released on Android devices. This is mainly b ecause there is such a vast variety of Android phones and many specific aspects of the phones should be taken into account during the creation process, it is much more difficult for app developers to produce games and apps for these devices. The App Store’s business model benefits top-notch app developers and guarantees that iPhone users will always have access to secure and useful apps.

ios ecosystem

Apple Pay

Apple Pay is a payment service that lets you use your phone to make credit and debit card purchases. Placing the phone close to the card reader allows you to pay just like you would with a physical card that supports contactless transactions. Your payment information is safe since the card is safeguarded by Face ID, Touch ID, or the phone’s passcode.

In-app purchases may also be made with Apple Pay, making it simple to order pizza, book a hotel room, and buy for clothing. Users looking for a straightforward and convenient mobile payment solution should choose the Apple iPhone since Google Pay is not yet accessible in many regions.

Superior Phone Protection Plans

There is a significant cost associated with AppleCare+. Alternatives like Asurion, SquareTrade, and Samsung Care+ provide phone protection plans at comparatively lower costs.

But none of them come close to matching Apple’s streamlined, trouble-free services. Visit your nearby Apple Store to get repair quotes and estimates rather than waiting on hold for hours.

Moreover, filing claims is simple in case of AppleCare+. In most cases, you can speak with an Apple employee in-store and leave with a brand-new or recently repaired device in an hour or two.

Easy to Spot Fakes

Learn how to check the authenticity of used smartphones if you plan to purchase one. For decades, con artists have been peddling counterfeit devices. Additionally, modern Android knockoffs are so similar to their original counterparts in appearance that they are widely available. You must keep an eye out for minute details.

Fortunately, it is much simpler to confirm the legitimacy of a used iPhone. Since iOS devices have a unique interface, it is simple to identify counterfeits because they are unlikely to have features like Siri, iCloud, or even the App Store.

Additionally, each device has a special serial number. Locate the Serial Number section in the middle of the page by going to Settings > General > About and scrolling down.

Then, paste it into the page on Apple’s service and coverage checking website. The device’s valid purchase date, the deadline for phone technical support, and the service area will all be visible if you are given a real serial number.

ios ecosystem

Functional Camera and Natural-Looking Photos

You can see that many Android devices outperform the most recent iPhone models based solely on camera specifications. Naturally, iPhones produce images with exceptional clarity. However, popular Android manufacturers like Samsung give their products better cameras.

Let’s compare the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and the iPhone 13 Pro Max, for instance. A massive 108MP camera with 8K 24fps video recording capabilities is available on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The iPhone 13 Pro Max, on the other hand, has a 12MP camera that is limited to 4K 60fps video recording.

Despite the disparity in specifications, many people still favour the iPhone’s camera. This is due to the fact that it is more functional and creates images that look realistic and natural. Let’s face it, very few shoot in 4K or even 8K these days. If your only intention is to use the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s high-performance camera to capture images and videos for social media, you won’t gain anything from having one.

Family Sharing

If everyone in the family uses Apple phones and devices, the Apple iPhone is a good option for kids. This is because parents can easily monitor what their children are doing with their phones, making  it safe for children to use phones.

Family life is made simpler with Apple’s Family Sharing. Up to six family members may share photo albums, calendars, and reminders, as well as make joint purchases of media such as music, movies, or apps. Since Family Sharing permits parental clearance for their children’s apps, there is no possibility of kids downloading improper or expensive apps.

Additionally, parents can use the Find My Friends tool to follow their children’s route when they begin walking alone to school.

iPhones hold their value

People frequently wish to upgrade their phones to newer models because new smartphone models with appealing features are frequently published. When people stop using their phones and purchase a new one, they frequently wish to sell their old, still-functional phones for the highest profit.

Apple phones maintain their worth much longer than Android phones. High-quality components are used to make iPhones, which significantly contributes to their ability to hold their value over time. Since there is only one manufacturer and new, better phones aren’t released as frequently as Android phones, Apple phones also stay as flagship models and up to date longer.

Swappie, for instance, which buys and sells used iPhones, is a place where used iPhones can be sold.

Narendra Modi

Conclusion

Apple is ramping up its efforts to win over Android customers. Unmentioned during today’s WWDC keynote was a new app for iOS 9 dubbed “Move to iOS,” which would make the transition for existing Android users to the iOS ecosystem a breeze. But the Move to iOS software only has a 2.4-star rating on Google Play and can only transfer images, messages, contacts, bookmarks, and your Google account.

However, several Android-to-iOS transfer tools were in development before the debut of the “Move to iOS” app. These include Syncios Data Transfer, Leawo, Dropbox, and others.

Moreover, the third-party programme, like Syncios Data Transfer, may synchronise the iTunes playlist in addition to the contacts, pictures, videos, music, call logs, SMS, MMS, etc. Without a doubt, the widespread availability of simple data-switching tools has sped up that development.

Earlier, Android phones were cheap compared to iPhones. Also, Android devices provide more options for customisation. However, things have changed drastically now. Most features found on Android flagships are also included on iPhones, and the price difference between Android and iOS flagships is very narrow now. Moreover, Apple is currently among the finest in the business in terms of performance, battery life, software support, etc., thanks to numerous upgrades to its hardware and software over the years. Thus, many Android users are now switching to iPhones.

OnePlus Nord Watch Review: Should You Try It?

How do you feel about OnePlus devices? Should you buy the new OnePlus Nord Watch? Is it worth it? Find out.

Brief Summary

We all are surrounded by devices galore and it is virtually impossible to keep track of them all. Every other day, there is a new device or gadget that is launched in India and all over the world.

Tech giants like Apple, Samsung, Sony, alongside many big and small players in the game regularly come out with smartphones, laptops, Smart TVs, smartwatches, and many other electronic gadgets.

OnePlus was launched nearly a decade ago in China and has quickly emerged as a worthy player among the aforementioned tech giants that has successfully carved out its own niche with most of its devices receiving positive reviews from the entire world.

While OnePlus is renowned for its smartphones, its smartwatches happen to be a fairly new segment for the brand. It has just launched the new, OnePlus Nord Watch, in India.

My Opinion

OnePlus Nord Watch comes in a black and blue coloured, squared shaped box with the design engraved on the right and ‘OnePlus Nord Watch’ right beneath it. On opening, it you find the smartwatch kept inside that is deep blue in colour and resembles a regular wristwatch.

OnePlus Nord Watch

At the bottom, you find the charger pin, USB cable, and the safety manual on how to operate the device, which is a user guide that will help users on how to use the device by following the instructions given.

The smartwatch does not seem like a new device just launched except for its design but is quite light to hold and the features and specifications are just fine. A big letdown is that it doesn’t even have a Bluetooth calling feature nor a built-in GPS, which is shocking considering it is from OnePlus.

I was expecting something unique, if not out of the world, from an OnePlus smartwatch and, to be honest, it hasn’t floated the boat of many individuals as they feel that not having two important features that any big smartwatch model should have is a big reason for that.

The smartwatch dial is a little heavy when you hold it in one hand while the strap is quite soft and sends out a warm feeling in your fingers when you examine it gently. The Nord watch is not something you call flawless considering its cost, but definitely worth a try.

Price & Features

OnePlus Nord Watch comes with a 1.78 inch AMOLED display screen and 60Hz refresh rate while its resolution is 368×448 and 326 PPI while the screen bezels are small and the pick brightness of 500 nits is quite useful upon using the watch outdoors.

Even in broad daylight, you can use the smartwatch or read texts without any issue while the refresh rate is also good. It does feel smooth upon handling it and it doesn’t give the feeling that it is a budget smartwatch at all.

OnePlus has definitely done its homework when it comes to the software side of the device and is abundantly clear when you use the watch on a regular basis while the watch doesn’t have an Always On display, which is another letdown considering the AMOLED panel, which is excellent considering its cost is Rs.5,000.

OnePlus Nord Watch

When it comes to display features, OnePlus Nord Watch takes the cake as far as I’m concerned because the frame has a zinc alloy while the buckles are made from stainless steel and the strap from silicon.

When you consider the build, the smartwatch is excellently solid by giving you the premium feel especially if you’re fond of budget smartwatches. As mentioned above, the dial is a little heavy and it is because the watch weighs 52.4g, which includes the strap although its frame made of zinc alloy doesn’t make it that significant.

The smartwatch is extremely comfortable to wear without hurting your wrist so you can wear it 24/7. The zinc alloy will allow the frame to get scratch marks easily that’ll make it lose its premium and regal feel.

Coming to health and fitness features, as mentioned above, the watch doesn’t have built-in GPS, which is sad because when you’re exercising outdoors, the watch uses all the sensors on active mode whether it is oxygen level, heartrate, GPS, and others to track your live location and provides the burned calories and number of steps you’ve taken.

The watch comes with 105 sports mode that can be found using the N Health app that you can examine at leisure while the sensors are great and provide accurate fitness data while the sleep monitoring feature is good too as the data reading is authentic.

The starting price of OnePlus Nord Watch is Rs.4,999, which many people feel is too much considering it doesn’t have a GPS or Bluetooth calling feature but since it is a brand smartwatch, the health data may not be 100% accurate although the oximeter is accurate with just a 5% error margin.

One of the best features of Nord Watch is the N Health app, which is a typical fitness app, which shows oxygen level, heart rate, and sleep data, among other regular features like reminders and alarms.

The smartwatch instantly connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth while the health app has more than 100 watch faces and if you don’t like any, you can use your own image on it for good measure.

Finally, its battery power is 240mAh units that support a magnetic charger and, therefore, does not support fast charging unlike other devices of OnePlus, which is another disappointment considering there are innumerable smartwatches under the Rs.5,000 bracket that support fast charging.

However, you will get a battery life of 10 days with complete usage, which can be believed as it doesn’t have Bluetooth calling or built-in GPS so the battery will not be consumed.

If you don’t use any of the health features, the battery can be extended to more than 10 days. In short, the battery life depends from person to person as to how they use OnePlus Nord Watch.

SpaceX Flies Cosmonaut from Russia to International Space Station; Details Inside

Anna Kikina

Highlights

  • Anna Kikina of ISS to be part of Crew-5 mission
  • Astronaut exchange program maintained despite tension between Russia, US
  • Kikina to be fifth female cosmonaut in space
  • Science News

In Brief

The Russia-Ukraine War has become a topic of hot debate since it broke out a couple of months back and continues to hit the headlines every now and then. Amidst all this, US carried out a space mission on October 5, 2022, that has an interesting story worth telling.

The mission has been codenamed ‘Crew 5’ is speculated to be of symbolic significance amid the Ukraine war where US has openly sided with Ukraine and has blasted Russia many times in the past few months.

US has chosen renowned Russian Cosmonaut, Anna Kikina, to carry to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard a SpaceX ship, who will also be the only woman cosmonaut in service and the 5th female astronaut in space, while this mission also includes two American and one Japanese astronaut.

SpaceX Mission

The blast off took place at noon at the Kennedy Space Center, while the weather forecast was good. American and Russia have been at loggerheads since many decades, which only went from worse to ultra worse since Russia invaded on Ukrainian soil in February 2022.

In the midst of such high tensions between the two countries, this space program has not been easy to manage but since both have a common goal of ensuring the operation of the ISS, they have agreed to co-operate with one another at least until this mission is completed.

As mentioned above, Kikina is now the 5th Russian female cosmonaut in space, which will serve as an example for other budding woman astronauts that have long since desired to make their name in the field of science and astronomy.

Nicole Mann and Josh Cassada, two American astronauts, are having their first ever spaceflight and the 30 hour journey will prove to be highly beneficial for them as they’ll get to learn new things.

There are a total 11 astronauts on the ISS, which is due to the arrival of Crew-5 while Anna Kikina is the first ever Russian to fly with Elon Musk’s SpaceX ship, which has a ‘taxi service’ contract with NASA, a distinction it shares with Boeing.

Conclusion

Ever since US imposed sanctions against the Russian aerospace industry in response to their Ukraine invasion, the tension between both Russia and US has indeed reached a fever pitch that made it almost difficult for them to go ahead with this mission.

SpaceX

But this is a give and take mission where they both need each other’s help and no ordinary one at that. Each cannot see through this mission without the others’ co-operation as US is responsible for life support and power while Russia is taking care of orbit maintenance and propulsion.

Highlights

  • iQOO 11 series could be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC
  • The Pro model may get a 2K Samsung E6 AMOLED display
  • iQOO did not release the iQOO 10 series in India

In Brief

Everyone is very excited about the iQOO 11 series of smartphones that will be launched by the end of 2022. They will be first launched in their native country, China, as makers want them to be just as well received as their predecessors.

The two models in the series are going to be iQOO 11 and iQOO 11 Pro, which will also be launched in India very soon as their model numbers and associated monikers have been subjected to online leaks.

The model numbers for iQOO 11 and iQOO 11 Pro are I2209 and I2212, respectively although there are also certain reports that speculate their model numbers to be V2243A and V2254A, which has not been specified as yet.

If the devices have been leaked so early, then it can be gauged that they’ll be launched in India at or around the same time as their launch in China, which is quite interesting as the company did not release iQOO 10 series smartphones in India.

Feature Speculations

Although the features have not been announced as yet, there are strong rumour mills buzzing about them at regular intervals along with a recent report that claims that iQOO 11 series will come with a 50 megapixel Sony IMX8-series primary camera and will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.

iQOO 11 Pro

iQOO 11 Pro is speculated to come with a Samsung E6 AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and 2K resolution while the pulse width modulation is said to be around 1,440Hz.

The iQoo 11 Pro Price is unspecified as yet as users want to know what will be the exact cost of the upcoming device, which will help them gauge the features themselves and get an idea on what to expect of it.

But, at the end of the day, these are all rumours, which means they may or may not be true so one can only wait for official confirmation from iQOO to clarify whether the speculated rumours are true or not and with the launch not far away, they can come out with official reports soon.

Are you fond of Google products? Which is your favourite device from them?

In Brief

Everyone is highly excited about the upcoming Google Pixel Watch that will soon be launched and go on sale on October 13, 2022, which has left many users and tech experts excited at the prospects of having another device to try out from Google aside from Smart TVs and laptops.

The smartwatch was announced at the Google I/O event held in May 2022 alongside Pixel 6A and Pixel Buds Pro, which the makers did not reveal much about except simply that it will come out by the fall.

This left many users disheartened as they were eager to learn more details about the Pixel Watch. But now, after a long wait, Google has finally revealed the details of the upcoming model in parallel with those of Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.

The pre-orders for Google Pixel Watch have already begun as the model is ready for shipping on October 13 at a price of $349. Unlike what you expect from smartwatches manufactured by Apple and Samsung, Pixel Watch will come in only one size, which is an average 41mm while the size too is diminutive in comparison to Apple Watch Ultra and Samsung Galaxy Watch Pro.

Google Pixel

The smartwatch can be pre-ordered from Google and Best Buy, along with several other retail stores that’ll soon put out their pre-order listings as well but as of now, the base model is going to cost $349.99, which is if it comes with a stainless steel case and Wi-Fi Connectivity but for an LTE connectivity, the cost increases to $399.99.

Google is also offering a Premium Service offer for YouTube Music and Fitbit for anyone that purchases a Pixel Watch, which is a good chance to take the opportunity with both hands as such offers don’t come up every day.

There is also a Fitbit promo for new and returning subscribers while the YouTube Music promo is only for new customers from US that are completely new to the service. Some users might face problems to use it for calls while working out in the gym or travelling on a long journey, which is why they can connect it to a cellular signal.

Features & Specifications

In order to match the massive popularity of Apple Watch Ultra, which has been receiving rave reviews all around, Google Pixel Watch might very well be Android’s answer to the smartwatch that users will consider a viable alternative.

The new pixel model comes with an eloquent design that makes it stand apart from other compatible wearables from Android but it needs to catch up to Apple smartwatches, which were first launched in 2015, in order to match up to its stature.

Apple occupies nearly 29% of the smartwatch space in the global market in the second quarter of 2022 while Samsung is at 9%, which is miles behind Apple but Google has a lot more to live up to here.

The Pixel watch is equipped with Fitbit health metrics, which will definitely float the boat of many Android users. Google has claimed many times that the smartwatch is for those who’re into health and fitness as the device comes with the health tracker from Fitbit alongside other smartwatch features that Fitbit devices lack.

Google has already announced its Pixel watch as the company’s new flagship model and premium smartwatch, which is due to the aesthetic feature of the model. Among the features, it comes with a domed, circular design made of glass with corning gorilla glass 5, which anyone can mistake for being an ordinary wristwatch.

It also comes with an IPX5 Rating, which makes it water resistant up to 5ATM, implying that it has the capacity to withstand pressure equal to a 50m depth with an always-on display feature added for good measure.

It is called Google’s Wear OS 3.5 where you can also avail smart home controls, straight access to Google Play Store from your wrist, emergency SOS, optical LTE, Google Wallet for making mobile payments, international emergency calling.

The smartwatch also has a strong battery life that lasts up to 24 hours on a single charge and runs on an Exynos 9110 processor along with a coprocessor, which makes its battery power comparable to that of Apple Watch Ultra’s.

Google Pixel

Conclusion

All in all, Google Pixel Watch is a worthy Android model that every Android user should possess, especially those that are dealing with health issues that want to live a normal lifestyle without medicines and pills.

Highlights

  • Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi 5G models are compatible with Airtel 5G service
  • Mobile subscribers will get up to 600Mbps speed in 5G network
  • Reliance Jio is providing unlimited 5G data during the beta trial

In Brief

If there is one important buzz doing the rounds in the technological field, it is the 5G services, which was launched by PM Narendra Modi in the first week of October 2022 with much fanfare and publicity.

The launch received an extremely positive response from the general public, which is why Bharti Airtel also launched 5G services live in 8 cities on October 6, 2022, which has left many users excited at the prospect of living in the city that has been given the honour.

Bharti airtel

The cities in question are Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Nagpur, Hyderabad, Siliguri, and Varanasi. However, consumers that are getting 5G services have to continue paying as per their existent 4G plan.

When it comes to telecom revolution in India, Airtel has been leading at the forefront since 1995, which makes it 27 years in the business and still continue going strong. Such a feat is not easy to accomplish, which is why Airtel is at the stature and position it is today due to continuously upgrading itself to cater to the new generation of users.

As of now, Bharti Airtel plans to give out the services as per the 4G plan because while Airtel subscribers getting 5G signals in their area can immediately shift to 5G services, they can also switch back to 4G if they feel that 5G is consuming a large amount of data.

Airtel’s 5G Plus Service are becoming quite popular all around and there are many 5G models that are compatible with them namely Apple, OPPO, Xiaomi, Samsung, OnePlus, Realme, among others.

5G Network will allow subscribers up to 600mbps speed during the initial launch phase as the handsets are expected to work at par with professional devices like PCs and laptops for data processing and gaining access to apps while Bharti Airtel’s rival, Reliance Jio, is providing unlimited 5G data during beta trial for a handful of consumers having 5G handsets.

  • Movie Benchmarks

What is it about movies that attract us the most? It is perhaps the most consistent in providing the entertainment quotient, along with sports, which is why they’re both so beloved all over the world.

In Brief

India is a large country where two things are worshipped beyond all and they both belong to the entertainment field- movies and cricket, and although things have changed considerably when it comes to hero-worshipping, there are many celebrity icons from both fields that continue to be revered like gods.

The Indian Film Industry has completed more than 110 years with the very first flick being released in 1913, which was called Raja Harishchandra, and Indian Cinema too, along with Hollywood and other film industries, has gradually evolved with each passing decade in terms of technology, visual effects, box office revenues, and a lot more.

Despite the tremendous achievement of Indian Films, it is still considered light years behind Hollywood in all departments but that is far from the truth because there have been many great luminaries in the film industry, be it actors, actresses, directors, stuntmen, etc. that are at par with the best that Hollywood has to offer.

If Hollywood had films like Ten Commandments and Ben-Hur, Indian Cinema had Mughal-E-Azam and Mayabazar, around the same time. Indian films, contrary to popular belief, stands at par with Hollywood/American Cinema, right from the beginning.

If there are certain genres and departments where Hollywood is better, there are also those genres and departments where Indian Cinema scores heavily. If there is one area where Indian Cinema needs improvement, it is the visual effects department, which is why it is considered 10 to 15 years behind Hollywood.

While it is true that Hollywood too has many films with bad VFX and CGI effects, Indian cinema’s list of duds is considerably high, despite the fact that the budget of both Hollywood and Indian films is quite vast.

It is true that in the times when the aforementioned films were made, there was no VFX or CGI in existence and these films had worked on the basis of practical effects instead of computer generated ones.

Hollywood has scored heavily in terms of VFX in their films via the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and other superhero films, but Indian Cinema is truly catching up in the visual department and 2022 alone had quite a few movies that heavily relied on VFX.

List of Films

Let’s take a look at some of the Indian movies that had the maximum number of VFX shots so as to showcase the potential of Indian Cinema in the past decade alone as many can give the best Hollywood superhero flicks a run for their money.

  • RRR– The biggest of the lot that has created a huge sensation in the western world that has been completely blown away by the phenomenon that is RRR and a big reason for it was its VFX, which had more than 2800 of them in the whole filmIndian VFX
  • Baahubali: The Beginning– The movie that started the pan-India revolution in the country had more than 4500 VFX shots that took the whole nation by stormBaahubali
  • Baahubali 2: The Conclusion– The perfect sequel to an already iconic film had around 2400 VFX shots, which is a little less than the previous film but the impact was just as bigIndian VFX
  • Brahmastra– The latest entrant in the list and the most recent one that came out in September 2022, that scores over all others in terms of VFX at more than 4500 shots, thereby paving way for two more sequels to complete the trilogyIndian VFX
  • Son of Sardar– A lesser film in terms of scale and budget of the above 4 but no less when it comes to VFX with more than 3900 shots in the entire filmSon of Sardar
  • Krrish 3– At 3500 VFX shots, the film has surpassed that its two prequels, Koi Mil Gaya and Krrish, in this field because it had more visual spectacles than the other two put togetherKrish 3
  • Syeraa Narasimha Reddy– Another Telugu language spectacle that scored heavily in terms of VFX with more than 3500 shots added to increase the excitement levelSyeraa Narasimha Reddy
  • Bigil– Although a typical Tamil mass entertainer, it had more than 3000 VFX shots to boast of that made this average flick get far more attention than it deservesBigil
  • 2.0– This one is a sequel to the 2010 release Enthiran/Robot that had Rajinikanth in the lead but this one had the added bonus of Akshay Kumar as the main villain and more than 2200 VFX shots2.0
  • Adipurush– The soon to be released Adipurush is being helmed by Om Raut, who also made Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior that met with massive acclaim, and even though its teaser is being bashed left, right, and centre for its cartoonish special effects and showing Ramayana in a bad light through its characters’ portrayals, the movie itself, apparently, boasts of more than 8000+ VFX shots, the highest for an Indian movie so farAdipurush

India is one of the biggest and key focus markets for HMD Global, with the biggest opportunity in the premium feature phone segment says, Sanmeet Singh Kochhar in an Interview with Divya Mohindroo, My Mobile India.

The electronics & smartphone industry is humongous and very cut throat in terms of competition, So we would love to know HMD Global’s perception towards this market.

  • Timing is the number one factor that determines if a relaunch will be successful; If your idea comes too early, customers may not be ready for it. However, if your idea comes too late, you may not be able to squeeze in front of a market crowded with competitors. You can’t ignore timing even though there’s no scientific process for determining it.
  • We have the longest standing and the most trusted mobile phone company felt somewhere lost in the clutter of the plethora of mobile phones available in the market. While brands are spending millions of marketing and PR moneys on staying ahead of competition, we chose to stay away from the rat race and rebuild the brand bottom up through its compelling offerings in the feature phones and budget smart phone segments.
    • People love Nokia phones for its ethos and the experience which we provide backed by loyal consumer base
    • Today we are sitting on a goldmine of loyalists who are nostalgic about Nokia phones and the experience which we provide through our devices

Can you please tell us, that what is the most prominent target segment, does HMD Global strike for while releasing it’s product and how does its accessories provide value to its customers.

  • Consumers who are buying their first smartphones or upgrading from their first smartphone, in the budget/affordable segment have tremendous potential in a market like India and our plan is to tap this opportunity with innovative products that are relevant to the usage and utility of the masses. HMD Global’s focus will be building portfolio in features and mid- budget segments smartphones. We put our customers first, which reflects in our customer centricity and service offerings and that is what makes Nokia phones very desirable and trustworthy.
  • Given the current consumer sentiment in India, the legacy of trust in a brand is as important for many consumers, as the value they derive from their phone.
  • Last year, Nokia mobiles was rated as #1 Most Trusted by Counterpoint Research across the three key parameters of build quality, software and security upgrades and Android Enterprise Recommended phones

India is a massive market with quite a dense niche for tech products, so we are very keen to know the HMD Global’s market experience in India so far, mostly in terms of competition, market penetration, and local business conditions of India?

In past 5-6 years since our entry into India, we’ve had a steady performance in the market. Globally also, bi. We’ve had a great experience so far with interesting launches across smartphones, feature phones and tablets. Our entry level Smartphones range the  Nokia C Series has been a great success in this category. We have also recently launched our second tablet in India in the budget segment in India. Though it is too early to tell,  but our  recently -launched tablet, Nokia T10 has also received phenomenal response so far.

We have been growing at a 41% YOY and we plan to maintain a similar pace going forward too, which is primarily going to be feature phone and mid- segment budget smartphones.

Singh Kochhar, Vice President- India & MENA, HMD Global

HMD Global is one of the big market players, in the industry, and we are very interested to know HMD Global’s insights on the biggest challenge and the biggest opportunity, that it considers while planning it’s business expansion in a market like India ?

Like I mentioned, India is a key market for us. We have been expanding considerably in India over the past few years with a diverse portfolio across smartphones, feature phones and now, tablets. One of the biggest opportunity for us is the premium feature phone segment. We recently launched, Nokia 2660 flip, Nokia 8210 4G and Nokia 5710 XpressAudio in this segment. All these feature phones are 4k+. They’ve had phenomenal performance in retail, and been very much appreciated by the media and our fans. Social media detox and reduced screen-times are increasingly becoming a focus in India, and people have started to prefer a simple modern feature phone as a secondary device. This is an opportunity we will continue to tap.

We also see much potential in the budget tablet segment. Our just-launched Nokia T10 has received a great response as well. We are also very keen on expanding our Make in India segment and exports, and we see much potential there.

Also the 5G launch in India is an exciting opportunity for us. We have bagged 102 contracts this year in India across 5G core, 5G radio, transport and visualisation of the core. We are very well positioned in India in terms of 5G, and will close more deals in the coming months.

In terms of challenges, India is indeed a competitive and highly-price sensitive market. We see this as an opportunity to push ourselves further to provide the best value across segments to our audience. We are committed to Made in India and all our feature phones, C series and G- series are made in India. In fact we have started exporting Nokia 105 from India and we are exploring opportunity for our other devices as we firmly believe Made in India, Made for the world.

What do you strike for while launching a new product, is it the quality or the price of the product, is it the combination of features & quality or the price & trend?

  • HMD believes in evolving with our customers. With the ever-changing demands of world, customers have cut down on luxury spending and focus on essentials. With the digital adoption the consumers are naturally progressing towards smartphones but feature phones continues to be a natural choice in the hinterland of the country.
  • HMD Global is committed to making quality technology accessible to everyone. And in a market like India, finding that fine balance between quality and price is key.
  • Our devices are known for their trusted quality and durability. We have tried to diversify our portfolio to cater to the diverse audiences in India so that we can provide the best deal in terms of price and quality for everyone.

Trends are changing very frequently, So what are your views in terms of this ever-changing non-lasting trend environment & do you take this as an opportunity or as a challenge ?

While trends are very fluid in nature, they are very interesting to understand the ever-changing consumer preferences. Hence, trends inherently can pose an opportunity and a challenge to manufacturers. While most trends die out without much impact, others leave a lasting change in the market dynamics. It’s therefore important to look at the larger picture in terms of trends.

At HMD Global, providing the best mobile experience across segments is our key focus. Our key focus is to provide durable technology with the best user experience, at the best price. And we will continue to do so diligently.

Singh Kochhar, Vice President- India & MENA, HMD Global

In such a competitive market, How do you set yourself apart from the rest of the competition ?

At HMD Global, our focus is to make quality technology accessible to everyone. Nokia phones are known for their quality and trusted durability. We offer 2 years of OS upgrades, and 3 years of security updates on our smart devices.

We have a diverse portfolio in India with a good mix of smartphones and feature phones, and recently, tablets. Our key focus is currently the budget segment, and we wish to provide the best value to our consumers here. Also, as mentioned, Make in India is a key focus for us. Our popular products, including the G series, C Series and features phones are all manufactured India. We are looking to expand the same to the entire range of devices

We have been growing at a 41% YOY and we plan to maintain a similar pace going forward too, which is primarily going to be feature phone and mid- segment budget phones.

So which platform works best for you in terms of sales, is it the online platform or the offline channels?

HMD global, the home of Nokia phones, has an Omni channel strategy in India. While we are catering to the online consumers we have a strong dealer network and we are present in over 100,000 counters in India and we are ase available on Nokia.com and other ecom sites.

India is a price-sensitive market, So how does HMD Global combat this challenge of providing a good quality product but keeping it inexpensive and affordable?

  • With rapid digital adoption, consumers are naturally progressing towards smartphones but feature phones continue to be a natural choice in the hinterland of the country.
  • Consumers who are buying their first smartphones or upgrading from their first smartphone, in the budget/affordable segment have tremendous potential in a market like India and our plan is to tap this opportunity with innovative products that are relevant to the usage and utility of the masses. HMD Global’s focus will be building portfolio in features and mid- budget segments smartphones
  • We put customers first which reflects in our customer centricity and service offerings and that is what makes Nokia phones desirable
  • Given the current consumer sentiment in India, the legacy of trust in a brand is as important for many consumers, as the value they derive from their phone
  • Last year, Nokia mobiles was rated as #1 Most Trusted by Counterpoint Research across the three key parameters of build quality, software and security upgrades and Android Enterprise Recommended phones.

Being a new and growing handset company, expansion of your reach is a must to develop a strong customer database, So, what is your ‘Growth Strategy’ regarding the same?

“Listen to your consumer, they know it better”

  • Mobile phones have become an integral part of our lives, almost an extension of our physique. So people know what they want from their phones.

  • Apple Inc. Production
  • Apple AirPods
  • Beats Headphones

How fond are you of Apple devices? Do you like their smartphones or laptops more? Do you love their AirPods or Beat headphones more?

Brief Summary

There are innumerable tech giants across the world that have reached a size and stature that is difficult to match for upcoming shots with Apple and Samsung leading the fray among others, which is a huge achievement as sustaining yourself for so long is no easy task.

Apple has achieved benchmarks of such level that very few can match up to its stature, which is why it can expand its wings even further in the tech industry and aim for higher skies.

But even in the tech world, sky is the limit and there are so many other accomplishments lying in wait that would be difficult even for Apple to complete. However, since India is one of the biggest markets for all tech giants across the globe, even Apple attempts to cater to the Indian audience in more ways than one at regular intervals.

The latest buzz doing the rounds is that Apple Inc. has instructed its suppliers to shift AirPods and Beats Production to India because Foxconn, Apple iPhone assembler, is all set to manufacture Beats headphones in the land of tropics.

Then, it aims to move even further with the production of AirPods and wants to capitalize on the billion plus population of India to cater to the tastes and needs of its people of different ethnic groups.

This will be a huge achievement for the central government as it will help encouraging local manufacturing, which has been encouraged by the Modi government since they came to power in 2014.

Apple will collaborate with Luxshare Precision Industry, which is a Chinese supplier to the company, and take its help in manufacturing AirPods in India. However, at the moment, Luxshare is preoccupied with on its Vietnames AirPod operations, which will take some time to begin production of the pods, thereby starting out slow in comparison to its rivals.

Apple has been consistently shifting certain areas of iPhone production away from China to India, along with other countries, beginning with the manufacturing of iPhone 13 models in the early part of 2022, and also hopes to begin iPad tablets in India as well.

Conclusion

It remains to be seen as to how successful this endeavour will be as Luxshare does not seem to be in a position to begin production any time soon but it goes without saying that, Apple AirPods and Beats Headphones will bring in a revolutionary change in terms of manufacturing devices in India.
