HMD Global has announced the Nokia XR21, the company’s latest rugged smartphone. It is a waterproof phone (IP68) with a sleek casing that is made to the MIL-STD-810H military standard. It has IP69K standards to be drop-proof, dust-proof, waterproof and life-proof, says the company.

The phone has 100% recycled aluminum chassis and tough materials as well as Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. It has a smaller 6.49-inch FHD+ punch-hole display, but gets an 120Hz LCD screen. There are two programmable buttons, so you can make your most frequent task more accessible.

The phone is powered by Snapdragon 695 5G SoC and run Android 12 with three years of software upgrades and four years of security updates. It has 64MP main camera, and a 8MP ultra-wide camera, but the ZEISS Optics is gone. The front camera gets an upgrade from 8MP to 16MP. It retains 3.5mm audio jack, stereo speakers and OZO spatial audio.

The battery is now 4800mAh, an upgrade from 4630mAh battery and there is also 33W fast charging, but this doesn’t have wireless charging which was present in the XR20.

Moving on, we have MIL-STD-810H military-grade drop protection that keeps the phone away from any sort of issues even if you throw it on the ground. It is already armored and can withstand high pressure, high temperature, and close-range sprays and impacts.

The device draws its power from a Snapdragon 695 5G SoC that gives lightning-fast speeds. A 4,800mAh battery pack takes care of the device for a longer duration. It is backed by a 33W fast charging tech that shouldn’t take more than an hour to juice up the battery.

On the software front, Android 12 takes care of the system although we expected the latest OS to hit it. Nokia promises three major OS upgrades and four years of security patches that should take care of this high-octane military-grade device. There’s also one year of screen replacement and three years of warranty on the device to get your hands at.

Nokia XR21 camera setup includes a 16MP selfie and a 64MP+8MP ultrawide snapper arranged in a neatly tucked rectangular camera bump. Lastly, we have color options at Pine Green and Midnight Black. Luckily, XR21 has a glossy finish on the former that separates it from the usual rugged devices out there.

Finally, about the pricing, XR21 will be available in the UK at EUR499 sometime in early June this year. Its availability outside the UK remains under wrap at the time of writing this.

The iQOO 11 gets a dedicated V2 chip, which is claimed to offer an enhanced gaming and photography experience. OnePlus does not have any such chip packed in the 11R 5G.

The front camera, however, supports only 1080p 30fps videos.

The OnePlus 11R 5G, in comparison, has a 50MP Sony IMX890 1/1.56-inch main camera sensor with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro sensor. For selfies, there is a 16MP front camera. The camera supports 4K video recording but does not have a night mode option for the same.

Between the two, the iQOO 11 has a slight edge, courtesy of the dedicated portrait-telephoto camera, support for up to 4K 60fps night mode video recording.

Software
