Meta is testing the Ephemeral Posts feature on Threads.
The feature will allow posts and their replies to disappear after 24 hours.
Currently, the feature is being tested with a select group of users.
Meta is also preparing to introduce ads on Threads.
Meta is testing a new feature on Threads that will allow users to post content that disappears after 24 hours.
In an attempt to encourage a more casual way of sharing updates among Threads users, this feature will auto-delete posts and their replies once a timer runs out.
If this sounds familiar to you, it is because we already have seen this feature in various other platforms including Meta’s very own Instagram.
Reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi recently demonstrated this ephemeral post format on their handle alex193a on Threads.
Alessandro Paluzzi’s demo of the Threads feature in the testing phase (Screenshot Credit – TechCrunch).
When users reply to a post, a visible timer will start a countdown.
This will indicate that the post and all its replies will disappear when the time is up.
Interestingly, quote posts will also disappear, although the app’s banner doesn’t explicitly mention this.
This feature is specifically designed for people who keep deleting posts.
Moreover, the 24-hour posts could be especially useful for creators.
Many creators want to share off-brand or off-topic content and they do not wish to clutter their profiles at the same time.
The feature might also appeal to users who want to comment on live events.
The post and comments will be deleted once the event is over.
Speaking to TechCrunch, a Meta spokesperson described the feature as a “new and casual way to share on Threads.”
Meta also confirmed to TechCrunch that this feature is being tested with a select group of users. However, it’s unclear if the testing is region-specific or how users can access it.
Alessandro Paluzzi first revealed the feature details in June 2024.
Paluzzi initially discovered the feature of disappearing posts back in June.
He shared a screenshot that showed a 24-hour button next to the Post button, which would publish a disappearing thread.
Technologist Chris Messina confirming the upcoming 24-hour post feature on Threads.
Earlier this month, Technologist Chris Messina also found hints about this feature in the iOS app’s code.
However, it’s important to note that these temporary posts won’t work on posts shared with the fediverse, such as Mastodon.
Meta would not be able to delete posts from other servers.
We have previously seen this ephemeral post feature in apps such as X, Bluesky, Mastodon, and Instagram.
The feature on paper sounds similar to Twitter’s Fleets. It was a short-lived feature quite similar to Instagram Stories, however, Fleets was discontinued within a year due to low usage.
Alessandro Paluzzi leaked Threads will bring ads on the year-old platform.
In addition to the disappearing posts, Paluzzi also claimed that Meta is preparing to introduce ads on Threads.
With over 200 million users base, Threads is admittedly looking for ways to generate revenue.
However, the Instagram spokesperson didn’t confirm the ads feature.
The feature will allow posts and their replies to disappear after 24 hours.
“We’re not testing ads in Threads at this time, and there is no immediate timeline for monetization,” Instagram spokesperson Alec Booker told TechCrunch when asked about the ads feature leak.

It would have been a lost case if Samsung didn’t have its latest foldables on the shelf before these launches.
But now Samsung is gearing up to release yet another foldable phone, its third this year.
Recently, 91mobiles spotted the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim, or as some industry reports suggest it could be named Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra, on a Korean certification body.
The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim is certified in South Korea. (Screenshot credit – 91mobiles).
The phone was spotted with model number SM-F958N and codename: Q6A.
But there’s some disappointing news as well.
According to Korean media The Chosun Daily, the Fold 6 Slim may not be available globally.
Initial reports suggest that Samsung is planning to release the device in South Korea and China only.
Additionally, the Fold 6 Slim is likely to come with a hefty price tag.
The news report reveals that it could cost around 2.8 million won in Korea (approximately $2,100 or ₹176000), which would make it more expensive than the regular Galaxy Z Fold 6 which currently retails for 2.23 million won (about $1,680).

Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim was spotted in South Korea Certification site. (Image for representation only).
The Korean media also reports that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim has been designed to be more impressive than the earlier released Fold 6.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim is expected to be thinner and lighter than the regular Fold 6.
While the current Fold 6 measures 12.1mm thick when folded, the upcoming Slim model will reportedly be slimmer to just 10mm.
This reduced measurement, however, comes at a cost.
Reports suggest that Samsung has removed the 0.3mm film that enables S Pen support, which means the upcoming foldable phone won’t be compatible with the stylus.
Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim is expected to feature larger displays.
An unnamed person from the wireless industry quoted by several media stories supposedly said, “Samsung is doing everything they can to make it (the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim/Ultra) even 0.1 millimetres thinner…The global smartphone market is shifting its focus to how thin the next product can be.”
In addition to being slimmer, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim is expected to feature larger displays.
The cover screen is said to be 6.5 inches.
On the other hand, the foldable panel will measure 8 inches, compared to the 6.3-inch and 7.6-inch screens on the regular Fold 6.
The internal selfie camera may also get a bump in resolution.
It could go from 4 megapixels to 5 megapixels. Whereas, Samsung might stick to the gun and make no changes to the 10MP front-facing camera and the 12MP ultra-wide camera.

Apple expects the iPhone 16 Pro models to dominate sales.
Apple plans to produce 90.1 million units of the iPhone 16 series with 67% being Pro models.
LG Innotech is the primary supplier of the periscope lens.
The company may bring in more suppliers like Cowell or Foxconn in the future.
While Apple’s Fall event to launch the iPhone 16 series is only a few weeks away, a component order reveals Apple’s internal sale expectations.
A recent 9to5Mac story hints that the company expects both iPhone 16 Pro models to register maximum sales, despite their higher price tag.
Referring to a new supply-chain report, 9to5Mac suggests that Apple believes two-thirds of iPhone 16 sales will come from either the iPhone 16 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro are rumoured to get an upgraded camera system. Image – YouTube.
The periscope lens feature, which was previously exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, is now rumoured to be in the smaller iPhone 16 Pro model as well.
As per the Korean News published the Elec,Apple’s unique Tetraprism folded optics zoom module also known as folded zoom lens or popularly the periscope lens is being supplied by LG Innotech.
42 million iPhone 16 Pros will come with Tetraprism zoom cameras by LG ,LG Innotek will be the sole supplier of the initial batch of the folded zoom according to supply chain report.
The Elec story mentioned, “LG Innotech will exclusively supply the first volume of the Apple iPhone 16 series Folded Zoom, which will be released in the second half of this year, following last year.”
The order size suggests Apple is preparing to meet 70% of the anticipated demand for the iPhone 16 lineup.
The report also says, “The initial volume is estimated to reach 70% of the iPhone 16 series production by the end of this year […] The parts industry estimated that Apple’s production plan for four finished iPhone 16 series by the end of this year was 90.1 million units. By model, 24.5 million units (27%) of the general type, 5.8 million units (6%) 26.6 million units of Pro (30%), 33.2 million units of Pro Max (37%), etc. The proportion of two types of professional line-up is 67%.”
The telephoto lens will come to both iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Image – YouTube.
One of the main reasons Apple decided to increase the screen size of the iPhone 16 Pro was to fit in the larger Tetraprism zoom camera.
This has, however, further differentiated the upcoming iPhone lineup.
For the first time in 2024, we will be getting four distinct screen sizes in the iPhone series series.
Apple is admittedly focusing on offering more variety for consumers.
While Apple is initially relying solely on LG Innotech for these components, the company plans to bring in a second supplier in the future.
There is a possibility we might see Cowell or Foxconn potentially getting a contract from Apple.
The ‘Pro’ models will feature all the latest Apple tech, including new Apple Intelligence.
Apple Intelligence rumored to be an important part of iPhone 16 sales pitch.
However, it is important to note that dedicated Apple Intelligence features will not be available at launch.
Apple released iOS 18.1 to developers for testing, which means the possible release of the latest iOS version is scheduled for October, weeks after the iPhone 16 Series launch.
Apple has been trying its best to diversify its supply chain.
However, with every new feature, we have seen the company often relying on a few key manufacturers.
For instance, the bright LTPO panels with dynamic refresh rates in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will primarily be produced by Samsung, with LG following.
Certain media reports also suggest that the Tetraprism zoom camera might also be manufactured by Jahwa.
However, the production plans for them will remain in smaller batches initially.
The bulk order will come from established suppliers, which will also help in managing costs in the next quarter.
The 5x optical zoom feature as a part of the Tetraprism camera system is expected to add a cost to the iPhone 16 Pro.
However, Apple is planning to recover this investment with a different pricing strategy.
With the iPhone 16, Apple is not bringing any radical design changes.
The company is rather working on an ultra-thin version of the iPhone 17.
However, this will not be released until next year and will also come with a higher price tag.
All these factors will influence how the market behaves this year with the iPhone 16 series launch.
iPhone 16 Pro Max – Is The 1mm Bezel Better?
Thin Bezels on the iPhone 16 Pro Max (Image Credit – IceUniverse).
While Apple is anticipating maximum sales for the “Pro” models, both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are generating maximum buzz for the rumoured ultra-thin bezel among every other feature.
We recently reported that Phone 16 Pro Max will have just about 1mm wide bezels, 1.15mm to be more precise.
So, are thin bezels on a phone screen a better idea?
Bezels are the borders around your phone’s display.
Most believe thin-size bezels create an immersive viewing experience.
A thin bezel means more display area, which means you can enjoy content on a relatively bigger screen without necessarily making the phone bigger.
Following this chain of thought, many smartphone manufacturers are already battling the thin bezel race. Until now, Apple has been largely absent from this race.
This ultra-thin bezel has reportedly allowed Apple to make the iPhone 16 Pro Max display bigger without increasing the size of the phone.
With just 1.15mm thickness, this would make it the thinnest bezel we have seen on any iPhone.
