Airtel receives CERT-IN empanelment for Cyber Security Services

Bharti Airtel has joined a select group of companies to be empanelled by Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) – India’s National Incident Response Center for cyber Incidents across India.

With this empanelment, Airtel will be able to offer its cyber security solutions to Union and State Governments as well as Public Sector entities, in addition to corporate customers. Apple confirms WWDC 2021 event will be held virtually from June 7

Just like last year, Apple has confirmed that the Annual WorldWide Developer Conference will be held as an online-only event. The event will begin on June 7, 2021, and is sure to include a lot of announcements including new iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and more.

According to media reports, the company has confirmed that the event will be held virtually and it has also said that it is committing $1 million to SJ Aspires, an education and equity initiative launched by the City of San José. This is to compensate for the virtual event and in turn, support the local economy.

Talking about the event itself, the WWDC 2021 will take place as an all-online event from June 7 to June 11. As always, the focus will be on developers and it is likely that Apple may release Developer Betas of the new OS. Speaking of which, we can expect the next iteration of the Apple operating systems at the keynote speech of the event.

That is, the iOS 15(iPhone), iPadOS 15(for iPads), watchOS 8(Apple Watch), macOS 12(MacBooks, Mac mini/Pro/iMac), and tvOS 15(Apple TV) are likely to debut at the event. Although the event is focused heavily on software, don’t exclude a few surprise hardware announcements just yet.

If you recall, back in 2019, Apple surprised everyone with the Mac Pro at the WWDC event, and in previous years like 2017, it has brought HomePod, iMac, and iPad products as well.

Coming back, apart from the new OS, the event is also said to include Swift Student Challenge, online sessions, 1:1 labs for technical guidance, and more. Also, the admissions for all the developers are said to free of cost so you don’t have to shell out big bucks for the entry.

External Storage Market Witnessed 21.8% YoY Decline in CY 2020: IDC Report

As per IDC’s latest Worldwide Quarterly Enterprise Storage Systems Tracker Q4 2020 release, India’s external storage market witnessed a decline of 15.6% year-over-year (YoY) by vendor revenue and stood at USD 77.1 million in Q4 2020 (Oct-Dec).

The majority of the YoY decline in storage spending was due to decreased spending from banking organizations, while manufacturing, central government and security, and investment services saw a growth in Q4 2020. The full year decline for the external storage market in India during 2020 (Jan-Dec) was 21.8%.

Dileep Nadimpalli, Research Manager, Enterprise Infrastructure, IDC India said, “Digital Transformation is no longer a choice, forcing organizations to revisit their architectures to accommodate data proliferation from edge to core to cloud. It is essential for enterprises to drive business value, but this is not possible without the right platforms, so organizations are considering new-age intelligent infrastructure platforms.”

The growth of All-Flash Arrays (AFA) is evident across verticals with a contribution of 39.6% to the overall external storage systems market in Q4 2020. BFSI, professional services, manufacturing, and government verticals were the major contributors to AFA demand in Q4 2020. Stronger uptake of NVMe-based flash arrays is witnessed due to significant performance benefits with negligible cost differences. In the coming years, enterprises would prefer NVMe-based flash arrays as de facto storage media for all the production workloads.

All the Storage Class segments saw a sharp YoY decline in Q4 2020. Entry storage and high-end storage segments witnessed a strong YoY decline compared to midrange systems in Q4 2020. The impact of Entry storage is due to decreased storage demand from SMB and enterprises for their non-core applications.

Enterprises are investing in the modernization of applications/Infrastructure, seamless movement of data across multiple clouds, AI Ops for managing infrastructure platforms, and security to be digitally resilient. Organizations are looking for trusted advisors and not standalone technology deployment partners to enable them to be future-ready.

 

Major Vendors Analysis

Dell Technologies continued to be the market leader in the external storage systems market with a 30.4% market share by vendor revenue, followed by Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) with a 16.9% market share in 4Q 2020.

 

IDC India Forecast

The external storage systems market is expected to grow at a single-digit compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) for the 2020 – 2025 period. IDC forecasts that External Storage Systems spending is expected to recover and significantly grow YoY in CY 2021.

OnePlus is reportedly thinking of skipping the Nord SE

The Chinese smartphone maker, OnePlus, recently ventured into the budget smartphone with its Nord Series, later the company launched two more devices under the series, and it was heard that another device will be surfaced soon, however, some reports say otherwise.

According to some media reports, a reliable leaker, Max Jambor, who earlier hinted at the possibility of a special edition of the OnePlus Nord series, is now saying that the company is really not looking forward to the announcement of OnePlus Nord SE. Particularly, he says that the Special Edition that was planned with the original Nord won’t be hitting the stores.

Earlier, a report suggested that OnePlus Nord SE could just be a special Edition of the Original OnePlus Nord designed in partnership with graphic artist Joshua Vides, it would have internal improvements like a 4,500mAh battery, 65W Warp Charging.

Anyway, it makes sense of OnePlus to call off the whole special edition idea considering the Nord successor is already in the works. Speaking of which, OnePlus seems to be developing the device with an internal codename ‘Denniz‘ for months now.

As per reports, the Chinese smartphone maker is also going to shift from the Qualcomm paradigm to Taiwanese MediaTek chipsets. It says that the OnePlus Nord 2 will feature MediaTek’s flagship Dimensity 1200 5G chipset.

Keeping this aside, there’s also an OnePlus ‘Ebba’ in the works and this is said to be the successor of the OnePlus Nord N10 5G. This device is likely to get a 6.49-inch flat display, triple-cameras, measure 62.9 x 74.7 x 8.4mm with a plastic rear panel.
