Electronics major Samsung today inaugurated its flagship global citizenship program Samsung Smart School at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) school in Varanasi. The program provides digital learning opportunities to students and helping improve their learning abilities. The company is also training teachers of the school to enhance their interactive teaching methods.

The Samsung Smart School program aims to create young leaders of tomorrow by giving less-privileged students in India access to the benefits of digital education and its own transformative innovations under Samsung’s vision of ‘Together for Tomorrow! Enabling People’.

As part of the program, students of JNV Varanasi will experience the latest digital learning infrastructure at the two smart classrooms that Samsung has set up in the school.

In the classrooms, an 85-inch Samsung Flip interactive digital board replaces the traditional blackboard, making it a more exciting and fun learning environment for students. Students can use the second Samsung Flip (55-inch) to participate in lectures, quizzes, classwork and project work and the 40 Samsung Galaxy Tabs in each classroom for self-study. In addition, the classrooms also have a printer, a server PC, a tablet charging station, and power backup.

“We are delighted to see the efforts put in by Samsung to enable digital education for students in remote areas of Varanasi. Samsung Smart School and the strong teacher training component of this program are already helping us improve learning processes for students and will go a long way in bridging the digital divide,” said PK Singh, Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Varanasi.

“Our global citizenship initiative Samsung Smart School is closely tied with India’s development agenda and we are implementing it in close partnership with the government to ensure less-privileged students across the country get access to the benefits of digital education. Samsung Smart School at JNV Varanasi will provide digital learning opportunities to students and enhance the ability of teachers to use digital infrastructure to teach. Samsung Smart School program strengthens our commitment to our vision of #PoweringDigitalIndia,” said Partha Ghosh, Vice President, Corporate Citizenship, Samsung India.

The Samsung Smart School program is being piloted at 10 JNV schools in its first year. Apart from JNV Varanasi, Samsung Smart School have been set up in JNV schools in Gwalior, Raipur, Udaipur, Kangra, Sambhalpur, Faridabad, Dehradun, Patna and Dhanbad. Many of these schools are located in remote rural districts around these cities. The pilot will cover over 5,000 students, of which 40% are girls, and around 260 teachers will receive training. Of these, around 500 students are at JNV Varanasi.

Apart from infrastructure support, Samsung Smart School will also enable digital learning for students in these schools through multiple touch points such as teacher training, providing meaningful and relevant educational content for all classes from Grade 6-12 as per CBSE curriculum to enable teachers to use these classrooms more effectively and enhance student learning through an interactive and immersive learning process.

Technologies that will change businesses forever

0
Future technology feature image

In recent times, we have observed most leading companies invest in Artificial Intelligence; it’s faster, more accurate and seamless. We are already living in the era of Big Data. As we get better at collecting more data, machine learning algorithms are becoming better at processing the data. Soon, advanced data processing could be the personalisation of marketing messages. AI-driven data collection that runs in the background on websites, social media and other platforms, this is live data.

Through the use of Artificial Intelligence, we are able to drive engagement and create content that matches popular searches by our intended audience.

Voice Search

We all are experiencing the growth and emergence of Voice Search with Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant. Today, more and more people are conducting voice search instead of typing. By the end of this year, 50% of all searches on the internet are expected to be voice searches. Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri understand speech with an accuracy consistent with a real human being. Most leading brands and businesses have started aligning their Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and content strategies with Voice Search, as it tracks data on customer needs and popular demands.

AI and Chatbots

The emergence and growing trend of Artificial Intelligence brought about it the development of Chatbots. This feature has become a staple on many websites and social media platforms. Chatbots are helpful in most industries for basic customer service, driving sales, and collecting data. The users today are getting used to interacting with chatbots which allows businesses to cater to all the inquiries from their customer across different time zones. The Chatbot allows for a very comprehensive form of support because it is active 24/7 and can cater to maybe even multiple languages. In the coming future, user will expect Chatbots as a standard feature on brand websites or on the hotline contact number with Voice-Conversion technology. Its food for thought that chatbots could become as or more efficient than a real human in the near future. Some people are skeptical of this technology because they feel the chatbots could develop their own language. Even though, businesses who do not invest in Artificial Intelligence will probably be left behind by their competition.

Data Privacy

With AI and the large-scale collection of data, comes the issue of data piracy. As this issue has been projected into the spotlight, pressure has been placed onto major governments around the world to take action and restrict the unfiltered sharing of their data. Recently, governments have struggled to limit major companies like Apple, Google, Amazon, and Facebook because this is an unprecedented issue that is not addressed by the current laws. Although governments have not been able to make changes, customers have put pressure on big companies by demonstrating their discontent. The effects of this can be seen with Apple’s latest software update which allows users to choose whether they want their data to be shared. This new feature is putting companies such as Facebook’s billion-dollar business at risk.

Regardless, the only constant in marketing is change – innovation in technology is bringing new challenges and also new opportunities. The most successful people will be those who can adapt to the new environment while still delivering a relevant message to the right person at the right time.

In collaboration with Steve Hemmerstoffer of OnLeaks, 91mobiles brings you your first look at the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 exclusively. From the outside, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 resembles its predecessor with the exception of a few minor measurements. The handset should be offered in a variety of colours. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 has the same appearance as the Z Flip 3. As with its predecessor, the phone has a thin profile and a flip-style form factor. When the phone is fully opened, it reveals a tall flexible display with a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera and a presumably improved hinge design. WhatsApp to soon bring chat filters to your inbox

WhatsApp to soon bring chat filters to your inbox

WhatsApp added conversation filters to its WhatsApp Business app for Android, iOS, and the desktop in 2018. Now, some four years later, the business is said to be working on adding a similar function to its normal app as well. According to WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned messaging service is also working on adding conversation filters to regular WhatsApp accounts. Users of WhatsApp’s regular app will be able to sort through their messages by applying one of four filters — Unread Chats, Contacts, Non-Contacts, and Groups — in a future update, according to a screenshot published by the blog site. These filters are identical to those currently offered in WhatsApp’s Business app. In addition to this, the messaging app will also make these chat filters available all the time in its standard app. “Standard WhatsApp accounts will also be able to use the same feature in a future update of the app, but there is another difference: the filter button will be always visible even when you are not searching for chats and messages,” the blog site noted.

Indian languages

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet has announced the addition of eight Indian languages including Assamese and Bhojpuri to Google Translate. The other Indian languages are Dogri, Konkani, Maithili, Meiteilon (Manipuri), Mizo and Sanskrit. With the addition of eight languages, a total of 19 Indian languages are supported by the service.

The announcement was made by the Pichai at the annual Google conference I/O that began on May 11. The two-day event is being held online. The Google I/O will conclude on May 12.

Other than Indian languages, Aymara, Bambara, Dhivehi, Ewe, Guarani, IIocano, Krio, Kurdish (Sorani), Lingala, Luganda, Oromo, and Quechua have been added to the Google translate. Pichai in his keynote address said that Google Translate has been a crucial tool for newcomers and residents trying to communicate with one another in the countries around the world.

Sundar Pichai

“The addition of 24 new languages is aimed to make Google Translate universally accessible,” adds Pichai. He adds that more people are using Google Translate than ever before, but we still have work to do to make it universally accessible. Google CEO also informed that together, these languages are spoken by more than 300 million people. Breakthroughs like this are powering a radical shift in how we access knowledge and use computers.

After the addition of 24 languages, Google Translate now supports a total of 133 languages used around the globe.

“So with advances in machine learning, we’ve developed a monolingual approach where the model learns to translate a new language without ever seeing a direct translation of it. By collaborating with native speakers and institutions, we found these translations were of sufficient quality to be useful, and we’ll continue to improve them,” says Pichai.
