OnePlus announced at the OnePlus 11 launch event that it wouldn’t launch any other smartphones in the OnePlus 11 series apart from OnePlus 11R.

The company is currently working on its first foldable smartphones OnePlus Z Fold and OnePlus Z Flip, which were tipped recently. Apart from these foldable smartphones, the other major launch of a OnePlus device in 2023 would be the upcoming OnePlus 12 smartphone.

Ahead of the launch, renowned tipster Yogesh Brar has tipped the specifications of the forthcoming smartphones. The tipped specifications indicate that OnePlus won’t bring a massive upgrade over the existing OnePlus 11 5G smartphone.

The OnePlus 12 is still months away from its official debut but the rumour mill is already busy with its expected specifications and features. Just last week it was tipped that the OnePlus 12 will come with a massive camera upgrade, and now another tipster has leaked what’s supposed to be the smartphone’s key specifications.

The newest leak comes from tipster Yogesh Brar who has revealed what could be the OnePlus 12’s display, processor, cameras and battery. The tipster also added the possible launch timeline for the OnePlus 12 which is said to be December this year but in China. The smartphone will most likely arrive in other markets including India early 2024.

OnePlus 12 Tipped Specifications

The tipster revealed that OnePlus 12 will continue to use a large 6.7 inches OLED display with a QHD+ resolution. The display will also continue to sport the same refresh rate of 120Hz.

OnePlus had used a similar sized panel with OnePlus 11 smartphone, which was an LTPO3 Fluid AMOLED with support for Doly Vision, HDR10+, and more.
The biggest change would be the upgradation of its chipset to the unannounced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC.

Qualcomm is tipped to announce the chipset by the end of November or early December. The upcoming chipset will bear the model number SM8650 and is said to offer a 35% improvement in energy efficiency.

Other reports on the web said that the chipset would pack one prime Cortex-X4 CPU core clocked at 3.7 GHz, five other performance cores, and two smaller efficiency cores.

Qualcomm has confirmed that it will use the Snapdragon X75 modem to offer Satellite connectivity. Digital Chat Station tipped that the chipset will continue to use the 4nm process and integrate the Adreno 750 GPU.

Another update to the forthcoming OnePlus 12 will include a periscope sensor. Yogesh revealed the rear-camera setup consists of a triple camera including a primary 50MP sensor, another 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a periscope 64MP sensor.

He added that OnePlus will continue to pack a large 5000 mAh battery with 100W fast charging tech support. The tipster also revealed the smartphone’s launch timeline. OnePlus is likely to launch the device in December in China. The upcoming OnePlus 12 smartphone might be the first device to launch with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

As we mentioned in the introduction, the upcoming OnePlus 12 5G smartphone doesn’t have a huge improvement over its predecessor. OnePlus 11 5G has a 6.7-inch Fluid LTPO AMOLED display with QHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. It is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, which is paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

The leak reveals that the OnePlus 12 could be the first smartphone from the brand to feature a periscope zoom camera. Qualcomm is expected to announce the next-generation chip in November this year. It is likely that the said chip will power the OP112.

According to the tipster, the OnePlus 12 will be equipped with a 6.7-inch OLED display that offers a Quad HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It appears that it will continue to feature a punch-hole screen with curved edges and an in-display fingerprint scanner, like the OnePlus 11.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset is likely to power the OnePlus 12. While it is not mentioned in the leak, it appears that it could be equipped with LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. The device is expected to run on Android 14 OS and OxygenOS 14.

This rumor comes from a Weibo post (via PhoneArena (opens in new tab) ), claiming OnePlus is testing a new periscope lens to improve the optical zoom capabilities of the OnePlus 12. Considering the OnePlus 11’s telephoto lens currently offers 2x optical zoom, that upgrade would be long overdue.

The leaker claims that Oneplus and RealMe “both have periscope arrangements. They are currently testing on the SM8650 product line.” SM8650, as PhoneArena notes, is the expected codename for the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. That would line up with this being a OnePlus 12 feature, since the chip isn’t due until later this year and the OnePlus 12 won’t be arriving until early 2024.

Other phone companies are fast increasing their phones’ level of magnification, so this is a feature OnePlus can’t afford to ignore — not like it’s sort of done with wireless charging. Even Apple, a company that also doesn’t rush to offer new hardware features is said to be adding a periscope lens to the iPhone 15 Pro Max — and potentially even the iPhone 16 Pro next year.

The thing about telephoto lenses and optical zoom is that they need space — and the higher the magnification the more space is required. Keeping a traditional horizontal lens naturally limits how much magnification you can offer, because going too high inevitably increases the thickness of the phone. And if there’s anything modern smartphone companies hate, it’s unnecessarily thick phones.

The periscope lens helps solve that problem, by bending the light 90 degrees into a vertical telephoto lens setup. Just like the periscope of a submarine. Storing the lens vertically means there’s a lot more available space to exploit, allowing phones to offer much higher levels of magnification without altering the exterior design too much.

We declared the OnePlus 11 as the best value flagship Android phone in our OnePlus11 review. The camera was particularly noteworthy, especially given OnePlus’s now-long-running partnership with Hasselblad. It’s not enough to seriously compete with better camera phones, like the Pixel 7 Pro.

The 2x telephoto zoom was a particular let down, especially after the 3,3x optical zoom of the OnePlus 10 Pro. Here’s hoping that this new periscope camera can fix that problem, and offer some serious magnification on the OnePlus 12. And hopefully for a similar kind of price to the OnePlus 11.

Ans) A post made on the Chinese social media site Weibo by tipster Digital Chat Station (via AndroidAuthority) indicates that OnePlus is looking to upgrade its camera array for the next flagship release. The tipster, who correctly leaked Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon naming plan before it was announced by the chip designer back in 2021, now says that OnePlus is testing a periscope camera on a product associated with a model number of “SM8650.” The latter turns out to be the rumored identity code of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

So let’s add up the clues. The device in question will be powered by Qualcomm’s 2024 top-of-the-line application processor, it is expected to have a periscope camera, and it is being manufactured by OnePlus. It’s not too hard to figure out that Digital Chat Station is writing about the OnePlus 12. In his Weibo post, the tipster says that both OnePlus and Realme, both brands that are under the umbrella of Chinese manufacturer BBK Electronics, are testing the inclusion of a periscope camera on phones that will sport the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC.

The post also notes that not all of the phones will use the OmniVision 64B image sensor which has backed several telephoto lenses using a periscope camera. A periscope camera offers greater optical zoom capabilities than you would normally be able to get from a device as small as a smartphone. That’s because normally the focal length of the lens cannot exceed the thickness of the handset.

But with a periscope camera, the lens inside the device is folded up and mirrored prisms are used to help bend the light helping to take it from the lens to the image sensor. For example, without a periscope camera, the OnePlus 11 delivers 2x optical zoom. The Pixel 7 Pro, which does have a periscope camera, can give users up to 5x optical zoom and the periscope camera on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra gives users up to 10x optical zoom.

Ans) A big trend in smartphones over the past few years has been the “periscope” zoom camera, and it seems OnePlus will finally adopt the tech in an upcoming release.

Periscope lenses in smartphones allow for zoom that goes beyond 2-3x. Google uses the technique in Pixel phones to hit up to 5x optical zoom, while Samsung uses it for the 10x telephoto lens on its Ultra devices, and countless other brands have been jumping on board too. Even Apple is rumored to introduce a periscope lens on its next iPhone.

But OnePlus, surprisingly, has yet to use a periscope zoom lens in its smartphones. The OnePlus 10 Pro and OnePlus 11 both maxed out with traditional zoom methods at 3.3x and 2x respectively.

Digital Platforms are becoming increasingly popular in India these days as more and more people are turning to watch quality content from the comfort of their homes as per their convenience.

Recently Reliance Jio Studios recently announced a slate of 100 movies and web series across Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, and Bhojpuri languages that will stream on the Jio Cinema app in 2023-24. One of the first releases announced by the studio was Bollywood heartthrob Shahid Kapoor’s starrer ‘Bloody Daddy’.

The movie will have a direct-to-digital release and the trailer of the movie has finally been launched today which sees Shahid Kapoor in a never seen before avatar. The movie is expected to be the official adaption of the 2011 French movie Nuit Blanche and Shahid gives a glimpse of being desi John Wick.

Things are about to get bloody, with Shahid Kapoor getting into action mode for the Ali Abbas Zafar film ‘Bloody Daddy’.

“Shahid Kapoor also mentioned that ‘Bloody Daddy’ was designed for an OTT release and that a big theatrical release was never on the cards. “It’s something we planned 3 years ago,” he said and added, “We worked very hard to make it. We had many challenges to face but we managed to make the film in one go. It was my first actioner and we designed it for OTT. Many people asked me why are we not releasing it in theatres but we had designed it for OTT.”

He further went on to reveal that exhibitors had called them and asked them to release their movie in theatres. Sharing his thoughts about the changing medium of watching films today, he said, “A few years back, the people who were open to change realised that this is the reality and it’s going to happen. Watching content at home is more like a comfortable experience and going to theatres is like an event experience where you go to a theatre, and spend a day out with family. So, they both can co-exist. They are not eating up on each other. Even though a lot of people wanted this film to be out in theatres. Exhibitors called and told us to release this film in theatres, but we stuck to what we had thought – which is a big screen experience on OTT.”

‘Bloody Daddy’ also stars Sanjay Kapoor, Diana Penty and Ronit Roy in the lead roles and is slated to release on June 9.

After gaining massive viewership thanks to IPL, Jio Cinema is now launching its first set of original content. After the film Kacchey Limbu and Randeep Hooda-starrer web show Inspector Avinash, Shahid Kapoor’s actioner Bloody Daddy will also drop on the platform. Helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar, it is a remake of French movie Sleepless Night (2011).

At the trailer launch of the film, Shahid and Ali spoke about their film and pressed on the fact that it was best suited for OTT.

The filmmaker, who has earlier made films like Tiger Zinda Hai and Sultan shared that every film has its own cinematic language, and Bloody Daddy’s needed a digital platform to tell the story honestly.

“Content is evolving and in the past three years, we have all seen how audiences’ preferences have changed. Also, when you make content for OTT, it’s a bigger responsibility to mount it at a larger scale, at international level, as people across would be watching it. The budgets today are big and one can create a similar movie experience, to be consumed on one’s own devices. As for Bloody Daddy, the film deals with drugs, blood, and gore, and it was important that we kept it on the same ground. We didn’t want to tamper it to suit it for theatres, and thus decided to have a direct-to-digital release,” Ali said.

As the host discussed how some of the recent IPL matches had more than 2.5 crore tuning in, Shahid Kapoor said that the numbers in actuality is many fold more. He said, “That is the number of devices logged in. Every TV in India on average has 3-4 people watching, and hence the total number would be close to 10 crore. It’s a great achievement if we can actually reach that many audiences for our film.”

The actor also added that both OTT and theatres will continue to be part of the same ecosystem and not clash with one another. As artists and creators, he also added that the energies can be divided.

While watching content at home is a more personal experience, theatre will continue to be an event for families. Both will have their own phase. For content creators, there are more avenues to choose from, and they just need to know which platform they should take their content to, and then work towards it. Everyone has been telling us how our film could have been in theatres, it’s slick and cool. Even exhibitors called us, wanting it but we had truly envisioned Bloody Daddy on a digital platform. It was created for OTT,” the actor said.

Shot amid the pandemic, Shahid Kapoor revealed that the film was shot in a record 36 days. He added that given they had to work in a restricted environment leading to higher production cost and efforts, Ali brought down the number of working days. He also shared that he has known Ali even before he became a director, and was looking forward to collaborating with him.

Also starring Rajeev Khandelwal, Ronit Bose Roy and Sanjay Kapoor, Bloody Daddy will stream free on Jio Cinema starting June 9.

Ahead of the official launch, the key specifications of an upcoming Realme phone are tipped by tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo. While DCS hasn’t mentioned the name of the device, we suspect the leaked specifications to be of the Realme GT Neo 6 smartphone.

Realme GT Neo 6 Specifications Tipped

As per the leaked details, the upcoming Realme GT Neo 6 will boast a flat OLED display with very narrow bezels. The handset is tipped to feature a 1.5K+ resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, and 2160Hz PWM dimming support.

The display size details of the device were not revealed by DCS. We can expect the Realme GT Neo 6 to offer the same 6.74-inch display as that of the Realme GT Neo 5.

Powering the smartphone under the hood there could be an overclocked version of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. The handset might pack LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. The device is suspected to ship with a larger battery which could offer 100W fast charging support.

Flipkart’s micro-site for the upcoming Realme smartphones has revealed the partnership between Bollywood King and Realme. The micro-site reveals the image of SRK holding the upcoming Realme 11 Pro+ 5G smartphone. The site also adds a quote of SRK saying that He’s ready for the next leap with the upcoming Realme smartphone.

Some reports on the web say the partnership with SRK might be only for the upcoming Realme 11 Pro series smartphones. Some netizens on the internet are worried about the price hike since Realme has roped in a Bollywood superstar for the upcoming smartphone. It would be interesting if the forthcoming Realme smartphones also broke the record of pricing of other Realme number series devices.

Realme equips both smartphones with a large 6.7 inches curved AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution. The display has a refresh rate of 120Hz, a peak brightness of 950 nits, HDR10+ certification, and more.

Underneath, both devices are equipped with MediaTek Dimensity 7050 SoC paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The smartphone runs on Realme UI 4.0 based on Android 13 out of the box.

The primary difference between both smartphones lies in the camera setup. The Realme 11 Pro+ sports a triple-rear camera setup with a 200MP primary sensor with OIS, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP macro sensor. The punch-hole in the display houses the 32MP selfie camera.

Tecno has integrated a centred punch-hole to house the 32MP front camera, which also is assisted using dual LED flash.

The smartphone is backed by a large 5000mAh battery which supports 33W fast charging tech.

The higher Tecno Camon 20 Pro 5G sports a similar sized 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution. However, Tecno has upgraded the refresh rate to 120Hz compared to the vanilla Camon 20.

Both smartphones are also equipped with an in-display fingerprint scanner. The Camon 20 Pro 5G is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 8050 chipset, built on a 6nm process.

Like the vanilla Camon 20, the Pro variant is also paired with 8GB of RAM, which supports virtual RAM expansion up to 8GB and 256GB of storage. In terms of optics, the Pro variant gets a proper triple-rear camera setup with an integrated LED flash.

The setup comprises of primary 64MP sensor, a 2MP macro sensor, and a 2MP depth sensor.
The Pro variant gets the same 32MP front camera with dual LED flash. The primary difference lies in the design, where the Pro variant has a textured leather rear panel with water resistant ceramic panel.

We can expect Tecno to reveal the prices of the smartphones at the India launch on May 27. Both phones are likely to be priced aggressively starting at under Rs 15,000 for the Camon 20, while the Pro variant is likely to be available in the sub-Rs 20,000 price category.
