The Indian smartphone market is seeing a boost apparently.
As per a report from the technology market research firm Canalys, the country saw 15% year-over-year growth in the first quarter of 2024 (January to March).
During this period, a total of 35.3 million smartphone units were sold in India.
Samsung maintained its position as the market leader, shipping 6.7 million units and capturing a 19% market share.
Xiaomi secured the second spot by shipping 6.4 million units, largely driven by its ongoing focus on mass-market 5G smartphones.
Vivo claimed the third position with 6.2 million units shipped.
Canalys reported that OPPO (excluding OnePlus) and realme completed the top five vendors, shipping 3.7 million and 3.4 million units, respectively.
Samsung’s success can be attributed to the positive reception of its Galaxy S24 launch, a strong AI-focused marketing campaign, and attractive pre-sale incentives.
Xiaomi’s mass-market 5G strategy also paid off, fueled by popular models like the Redmi 13C 5G and the Redmi Note 13 5G series.
Notably, brands such as Motorola, Infinix, and Apple achieved double-digit growth in the Indian market during this quarter.
Apple’s iPhone 15 model particularly stood out due to multiple price reductions and promotional offers.
