Sony WH-CH720N Headphone Unboxing

Sony WH-CH720N

Sony WH-CH720N Headphone comes in a premium white packaging box that neatly details all significant features at the back with product branding on the top.

When you pull the Sony WH-CH720N Headphone out of its rather eco-friendly packaging which has no plastics whatsoever, you’ll find a rather smartly designed headphone.

Inside the pack, the headphones come nicely packed in a soft white cloth cover. Along with the headphones, you get a USB Type-C charging cable, a 3.5-mm audio cable and some essential paperwork.

We had the white colour variant for the review, which gives off an extremely premium feel and comes in a nice finish.

Sony WH-CH720N Headphone Design

Sony WH-CH720N

The 720N ear cups are protected by a smooth urethane shell. The previous Sony model had a gritty textured finish which some users complained about. Sony has added a few nice touches to the design departments.

For example, the metal headband has a coloured matching strip protecting the metal which helps it from rattling and keeps the extension nice and strong.

The headphone also comes with headrest cushions for ultimate comfort. When you twist and pull these apart you won’t notice any cracking or creaking noises so it is safe to say they’re well built in that respect.

The buttons on the ear cups are of a tactile and clicky variety. They consist of the volume up, volume down, and play & pause. Moreover, a long push on the Play/Pause button can wake your AI on whatever device you’re using. It supports Siri, Google Assistant and even Bixby. So this means you can control the Sony WH-CH720N easily with just your voice.

There’s also the noise cancelling button that toggles between noise cancelling and ambient awareness which allows the exterior sound to pass through.

On the other ear cup, we have the analogue input and it is an audio jack provided in the box. There’s also a USBC port for fast charging and of course the power button. Interestingly, if you tap the power button it will trigger the headphones to tell you how much power is left.

Also, if you want to put the headphones into pairing mode, a long push and hold on the power button will facilitate that.

Another design improvement has been added keeping inclusivity in mind. While there are markings on the inside to indicate the left and right ear cups, Sony has also added a raised Braille dot on the left ear cup where your thumb would rest if you don’t want to use your eyes.

Sony WH-CH720N Headphone Sound Quality

Sony WH-CH720N

The Sony WH-CH720N headphones offer exceptional sound quality with deep bass, clear midrange, and crisp treble. These headphones are equipped with 30mm drivers that deliver powerful and dynamic audio. Whether you’re listening to music, watching videos, or taking calls, the sound quality is consistently high and immersive.

Sony has also incorporated the Integrated Processor V1 and Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) for producing “high-quality sound exactly as the artists intended.”

In addition, the advanced noise-cancelling technology of the WH-CH720N headphones ensures that external noise is effectively blocked out, allowing you to focus on your audio content without distraction. This feature is especially useful for people who work or study in noisy environments, or for those who simply want to enjoy their music without any external interference.

The headphones also support a range of audio codecs, including SBC, AAC, and aptX, which ensures high-quality wireless audio streaming. The Bluetooth connectivity is reliable, and there’s no lag or delay when watching videos or playing games.

Furthermore, the Sony Headphones Connect app allows you to customize the sound settings to your preference, with EQ presets and manual adjustments available. This feature enables you to tailor the audio to your specific listening preferences and make the most out of your headphones.

One thing that anyone who is investing in premium headphones needs to know, which is something any experienced audio expert will also tell you, is that you need to run speakers and drivers in for 40 hours before they peak. This is what’s known as the burn-in process. It loosens the diaphragm on the drivers.

Out of the box, the flat EQ profile is good in particular the high-frequency range and the base output is quite substantial. We did find initially that the mid-range sounded a little bit muddy but after the burn-in process, the over 40 hours of playing Lo-Fi girls live stream on YouTube, the mid-range has improved significantly.

Now, with the EQ options from our tests and experimenting with all the different audio genres and presets within the app, the best EQ by far for modern types of music is the excited EQ. It makes the bass a bit more bouncy but it keeps the clarity nice and crisp but not too sharp.

For the more classic styles of music that involve traditional instruments and powerful vocals, the bright EQ offers the most balanced sound signature.

Sony WH-CH720N Headphone Noise Cancelling Feature

Sony WH-CH720N

The Sony WH-CH720N headphones are equipped with advanced noise-cancelling technology that effectively blocks out external noise, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in your audio content. The headphones offer two different noise-cancelling modes: Ambient Sound mode and Noise Canceling mode.

Ambient Sound mode lets you hear external sounds while you’re wearing the headphones, which is useful if you need to stay aware of your surroundings. This mode is ideal for use in public places or when you’re travelling.

The headphones also have an Adaptive Sound Control feature that adjusts the level of noise-cancelling based on your surroundings. This feature is especially useful if you’re moving between different environments, as it ensures that the noise-cancelling is always optimized for your surroundings.

Sony WH-CH720N Headphone Battery

Sony WH-CH720N

Let’s talk about power. We are sure you would approve of the 50-hour battery life on the 720N. Yes, 50! And that’s with noise cancelling off because with noise cancelling on, the battery life adds up to about 35 hours.

So, do you realize what this means? This means, just 10 per cent of the battery in these Sony headphones can give you 3.5 hours of playback and Sony say just 3 minutes of charge can give you up to 1 hour of playback. Sony also claims that Sony WH-CH720N Headphones can go from 0 to 100 per cent in around 3.5 hours of charging time.

We ran some ground tests on the Sony WH-CH720N and tried to get it to the last phase of the battery with the indicator blinking red. To achieve this, we had to leave these playing at 100 with ANC on all of the night and some of the day. So, more than 20 hours easily.

One of the nice things about these headphones is even if you’re in this circumstance where headphones are out of power and let’s say you’ve got no way to charge them, you still have the option to use the headphone jack, which some experts would say sounds batter than the wireless setting.

Sony WH-CH720N Headphone User Experience

Sony WH-CH720N

The Sony WH-CH720N headphones offer a user experience that is both intuitive and customizable.

First of all, the headphones are wireless, which means you can move around freely and not worry about getting tangled up in cords. The Bluetooth connectivity is reliable and quick to set up, and the headphones have a range of up to 30 feet.

The battery life is also impressive, with up to 35 hours of playback time on a single charge.

In addition, the headphones offer advanced noise-cancelling technology, which is incredibly effective at blocking out external noise. You can switch between two different noise-cancelling modes depending on your environment, and you can also adjust the level of noise-cancelling using the Sony Headphones Connect app.

Sony WH-CH720N Headphone Verdict

Sony WH-CH720N

Sony as a brand is well aware of what it takes to make good-quality wireless headphones. The fundamental formula when it comes to over-the-ear headphones consists of four parts – good sound, comfortable design, ideal battery life and some extra features to flaunt.

A bonus would be a good active noise cancelling feature and to be able to deliver all of this under 10K (which is the launch price) is impressive. Overall, we do believe Sony has delivered on all those fronts.

The Sony WH-CH720N headphones offer an exceptional listening experience with high-quality sound and advanced noise-cancelling technology, making them an excellent choice for music lovers and audio enthusiasts alike.
