Apple is gearing up for a packed week of product announcements and a new report suggests that the company is particularly optimistic about the low-cost MacBook.

Cupertino giant is set to begin the week with an online announcement, followed by more updates on Tuesday. The week will conclude with a final reveal and an in-person media event on Wednesday, March 4.

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple has advised retail employees to brace for a “major rush” of customers this week. In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Gurman noted that some employees feel the preparations for the new product launches are “on par with what happens before the debut of new iPhones in the fall.”

Gurman writes, “Internally, the low-end MacBook is being described as an “incredible value,” with Apple believing the launch is going to drive a serious number of switchers from Windows machines and Chromebooks. It could even compel iPhone users without computers to buy their first Mac.”

In the same X post, the tipster also shared a benchmark screenshot and claimed that an early test unit of the Pro Max variant achieved an AnTuTu benchmark score of 36,12,095. The screenshot further reveals that the device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500s. It had a CPU score of 951,052 points and a GPU score of 1,452,620 points, based on AnTuTu version V11.0.3-OB3.

However, the screenshot shared by the tipster does not mention the name of the smartphone anywhere. It instead mentions that the device could be a rooted version.

In any case, if this score holds true, the device could be positioned as a performance-focused smartphone in the upper mid-range segment.

Apple has reportedly agreed to pay double the previous price for LPDDR5X memory chips supplied by Samsung Electronics. The tipoff comes from a Korean publication named Dealsite based on industry sources.

The report claims Apple recently held urgent discussions with Samsung’s semiconductor division to finalise RAM delivery volumes for the first half of the year. Samsung had initially been expected to push for a 60% price hike on the LPDDR5X chips supplied to Apple. However, the Korean company instead began negotiations with a 100% markup as a strategy and interestingly, Apple is said to have agreed to the revised pricing immediately.

The 12GB LPDDR5X memory modules used in the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro models have already seen a sharp price jump since early 2025, climbing from roughly $30 to around $70 per unit.

Let’s start by believing there is some truth to this report. And if that is the case, this swift acceptance underscores how aggressively smartphone manufacturers are trying to secure memory supplies.

Major chipmakers such as SK Hynix and Micron Technology have increasingly shifted production capacity toward high-bandwidth memory (HBM) used in AI servers. As a result, mobile DRAM supply has tightened significantly.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has already acknowledged during a recent earnings call that higher chip prices would have “a bit more of an impact” on gross margins. As for a possible iPhone price hike, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently indicated that Apple currently plans to maintain the starting price of the iPhone 18 Pro despite mounting component costs. The supply strain is also affecting Samsung’s own smartphone operations.
