Apple is gearing up for a packed week of product announcements and a new report suggests that the company is particularly optimistic about the low-cost MacBook.

Cupertino giant is set to begin the week with an online announcement, followed by more updates on Tuesday. The week will conclude with a final reveal and an in-person media event on Wednesday, March 4.

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple has advised retail employees to brace for a “major rush” of customers this week. In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Gurman noted that some employees feel the preparations for the new product launches are “on par with what happens before the debut of new iPhones in the fall.”

Gurman writes, “Internally, the low-end MacBook is being described as an “incredible value,” with Apple believing the launch is going to drive a serious number of switchers from Windows machines and Chromebooks. It could even compel iPhone users without computers to buy their first Mac.”

This level of readiness suggests that at least one of the products being unveiled between Monday and Wednesday is expected to have “major mainstream appeal.”

Upcoming Affordable MacBook – What We Know So Far?

Among the anticipated devices, the lower-cost MacBook is believed to generate the most excitement.

Although there are no confirmed details about pricing, estimates place the starting price between $599 and $799 in the United States. Additionally, eligible college students and educators are expected to receive a $100 discount off the regular retail price.

Adding a nostalgic touch, the new MacBook may draw inspiration from the colourful iBook models of the early 2000s. Reports suggest it could be offered in vibrant finishes such as yellow, green, blue, and possibly pink.

In terms of hardware, the budget MacBook is expected to run on the A18 Pro chip, the same processor found in the iPhone 16 Pro, rather than Apple’s M-series silicon. The laptop is also rumoured to feature a smaller 12.9-inch display. Based on the A18 Pro’s specifications, the device will likely come with 8GB of RAM and it is also expected to include standard USB-C ports instead of faster Thunderbolt connectivity.

Beyond the lower-cost MacBook, most of the other products expected this week are likely to focus primarily on chipset upgrades rather than major design overhauls. Potential announcements include an iPhone 17e powered by an A19 chip, an iPad Air equipped with the M4 chip, an iPad 12 featuring the A18 chip, a MacBook Air updated with the M5 chip, and MacBook Pro models running on M5 Pro and M5 Max processors.

Google has officially introduced Nano Banana 2, its latest AI-powered image generation tool. It offers faster performance while delivering the same high-quality output previously seen in its Pro model.

Nano Banana 2 Availability Across Google Platforms

In a blog post, Google confirmed that Nano Banana 2 has begun rolling out. Users can now access the Gemini 3.1 Flash Image AI model, also known as Nano Banana 2, across multiple Google platforms.

Within the Gemini app, Nano Banana 2 replaces Nano Banana Pro for the Gemini 3 series Fast, Thinking, and Pro AI models. However, Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers will continue to have access to the Pro version for “specialised tasks” by regenerating images within the app.

The AI image generation and editing tool is also expanding globally, becoming available in 141 additional countries including India. Support has been added for eight new languages in Search in AI Mode and Google Lens via the Google app, as well as through mobile and desktop browsers. Users can also try Nano Banana 2 as a preview in AI Studio, Gemini API, and Vertex AI.

Additionally, Nano Banana 2 is now the default image generation model in Flow, Flow, Google Labs’ high-fidelity video creation platform.

The company confirmed that all Flow users can access Nano Banana 2 at zero credits. The tool has also been integrated into Google Ads, where it can assist users in creating marketing campaigns and banners while offering ad suggestions.

Enhanced Capabilities and AI Improvements

According to Google, Nano Banana 2 leverages “Gemini’s advanced knowledge base” and can draw on real-time information and images from web search. This enables the AI model to deliver faster and more refined subject-specific rendering. It also enhances the tool’s ability to generate detailed infographics, diagrams, and data visualisations.

A key improvement in Nano Banana 2 is its ability to create “precise” and “legible text” within images, making it particularly useful for marketing materials, greeting cards, and similar content. The tool also supports translating and contextualising text embedded within images.

Google further claims that Nano Banana 2 can produce high-quality “photorealistic imagery” at speed. The model maintains subject consistency for up to five characters and preserves visual fidelity for up to 14 objects within a single workflow.

Nano Banana 2 can also handle more complex queries and better understand nuanced prompts from users. Similar to Nano Banana Pro, the new model supports image generation at up to 4K resolution. It also incorporates vibrant lighting effects, richer textures, and sharper details to enhance overall image quality.

Google first launched the Nano Banana AI image generator, referred to as the Gemini 2.5 Flash Image AI model, in August 2025. The tool debuted with promises of faster image generation, improved element-based editing and stronger character consistency. In November 2025, the company expanded the lineup with the Gemini 3 Pro-powered Nano Banana Pro, capable of generating up to 4K resolution images.

Alongside these launches, the company also confirmed that the upcoming Huawei Watch GT 6 series will be the first to support a dedicated Wheelchair Mode within its Activity Rings feature. Here are more details.

Huawei Watch GT Runner 2

image

The Watch GT Runner 2 sports a 1.32-inch AMOLED display with a 466 x 466 resolution and peak brightness of up to 3000 nits. It is protected by second-generation Kunlun Glass for enhanced durability.

Buyers can choose from Dawn Orange, Dusk Blue, and Midnight Black colour options. In terms of design, Huawei has refined the watch with runners in mind. The case, bezel, crown, and buttons are crafted from titanium alloy, and the device measures 43.5mm by 43.5mm with a thickness of 10.7mm. Weighing approximately 34.5 grams without the strap, it stands out as particularly lightweight for its category.

The watch is paired with a new AirDry woven strap featuring a hollowed design to improve breathability, with Huawei claiming a 25 percent boost in airflow compared to earlier straps. A fluoroelastomer strap is also included for workouts involving sweat and water exposure.

On the software front, the wearable introduces an Intelligent Marathon Mode co-developed with the DSM-Firmenich Running Team. This feature enables structured race preparation, allowing users to access major marathon events or create custom ones, generate tailored training plans, and monitor advanced metrics such as lactate threshold, running power, training intensity, and a Running Ability Index. The watch can also predict finishing times based on historical data and training patterns.

image

During races, users can view real-time pace charts, estimated finish times, and their gap against a target time. Additional features include a digital pacer and fueling reminders to help maintain energy levels during long-distance runs. After each session, the Huawei Health app provides a detailed performance breakdown along with form analysis and recovery guidance.

Beyond running, the smartwatch supports more than 100 sports modes including trail running, swimming, cycling, golf with access to over 17,000 courses in select markets, and freediving up to 40 meters. It carries 5 ATM and IP69 ratings, though Huawei clarifies that it is not intended for hot showers or deep scuba diving.

For health tracking, the device offers ECG monitoring, heart rate variability tracking, blood oxygen measurement, sleep tracking with breathing awareness, and stress insights.

A key highlight of the Watch GT Runner 2 is Huawei’s industry-leading 3D floating antenna system.

The smartwatch supports dual-band GPS (L1 + L5) and is compatible with multiple satellite navigation systems including GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, and NavIC, ensuring reliable global tracking.

Battery life is rated at up to 14 days under light usage, 7 days with typical use, and up to 32 hours in outdoor workout mode with precise positioning enabled. The watch supports wireless charging, NFC payments, Bluetooth calling, standalone music playback, and QR code scanning.

The Huawei Watch GT Runner 2 is priced at £350 and is currently available for purchase.

Huawei Watch GT 6 Series to Introduce Wheelchair Mode in Activity Rings

Huawei has now confirmed that Huawei Watch GT 6 series will be the first device to support a new workout mode called Rolling. Expected to roll out at the end of December, this mode is designed to precisely track both the frequency and number of wheelchair pushes.

image

The company states that the upgrade represents a tangible realisation of its vision to “bring digital to every person, home and organization for a fully connected, intelligent world.”

In an official statement, Huawei said, “As a leader in technological innovation, we embrace our duty to empower all- not just the many, but the overlooked and the underserved- ensuring a future where every individual thrives in health, dignity, and vitality.”

The company also indicated that additional Huawei watch models are expected to support this mode in the future.

Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5

image

The Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 feature an oval-shaped charging case and earbuds with a star-ring diamond-cut design. The stem includes a subtle golden ring along with HUAWEI SOUND branding, adding to the premium aesthetic.

The earbuds use silicone ear tips in an in-ear stem-style design intended for a secure fit during extended listening sessions. Each earbud weighs 5.5 grams and measures 29.1 x 21.8 x 23.7mm, while the charging case weighs 43 grams and measures 65.50 x 46.70 x 22.98mm. Globally, the earbuds are available in Snowy White, Frost Silver, Azure Sky, and Earth Gold.

Internally, Huawei employs a dual-driver system combining an ultra-linear dual-magnetic circuit bass unit with an ultra-thin micro-planar tweeter. The bass driver reaches frequencies as low as 10Hz, while the tweeter extends up to 48kHz for enhanced clarity at higher frequencies.

image

The FreeBuds Pro 5 incorporate a dual-unit, dual-channel active noise cancellation system that emits reverse sound waves to counter ambient noise. Huawei claims the new system offers up to three times better performance than the previous generation.

The Kirin A3 chipset manages environmental processing and noise reduction alongside upgraded microphones, with the company stating that call clarity remains stable even in noise levels up to 100dB and wind speeds of 10m/s. An Alert Mode is also included to allow important external sounds to pass through when needed.

The earbuds support AAC, SBC, LDAC, and L2HC codecs. They also feature Huawei’s proprietary NearLink technology, which enables lossless audio transmission speeds of up to 4.6Mbps under supported conditions.

image

Each earbud houses a 60mAh battery, while the charging case includes a 537mAh battery. Huawei claims up to 9 hours of playback without active noise cancellation and approximately 6 hours with ANC enabled.

Apple Accepts 100% Price Increase on Samsung LPDDR5X Memory, Claims Report

0

Highlights

  • Apple has reportedly agreed to pay Samsung double the previous price for LPDDR5X memory chips.
  • The sharp price hike reflects tightening mobile DRAM supply, as major chipmakers shift production toward HBM for AI servers.
  • Apple plans to keep the iPhone 18 Pro’s starting price unchanged, as of now.

Apple has reportedly agreed to pay double the previous price for LPDDR5X memory chips supplied by Samsung Electronics. The tipoff comes from a Korean publication named Dealsite based on industry sources.

The report claims Apple recently held urgent discussions with Samsung’s semiconductor division to finalise RAM delivery volumes for the first half of the year. Samsung had initially been expected to push for a 60% price hike on the LPDDR5X chips supplied to Apple. However, the Korean company instead began negotiations with a 100% markup as a strategy and interestingly, Apple is said to have agreed to the revised pricing immediately.

The 12GB LPDDR5X memory modules used in the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro models have already seen a sharp price jump since early 2025, climbing from roughly $30 to around $70 per unit.

Let’s start by believing there is some truth to this report. And if that is the case, this swift acceptance underscores how aggressively smartphone manufacturers are trying to secure memory supplies.

Major chipmakers such as SK Hynix and Micron Technology have increasingly shifted production capacity toward high-bandwidth memory (HBM) used in AI servers. As a result, mobile DRAM supply has tightened significantly.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has already acknowledged during a recent earnings call that higher chip prices would have “a bit more of an impact” on gross margins. As for a possible iPhone price hike, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently indicated that Apple currently plans to maintain the starting price of the iPhone 18 Pro despite mounting component costs. Even so, the company expects year-on-year revenue growth in the range of 13% to 16% for the current quarter.

The supply strain is also affecting Samsung’s own smartphone operations.

The report notes that early production of the Galaxy S26 relies on an even 50/50 split of LPDDR5X memory sourced from Samsung’s semiconductor arm and Micron. Both suppliers are reportedly planning substantial price increases after the initial production batch. This is why Samsung is expected to raise Galaxy S26 prices, while using the in-house Exynos 2600 processor for almost 30% of units.

FAQs

Q1. What price change did Apple reportedly accept for Samsung’s LPDDR5X memory chips?

Answer. Apple is said to have agreed to a 100% price increase, with 12GB modules rising from about $30 to around $70 per unit.

Q2. Why are memory prices rising so sharply?

Answer. Major chipmakers like SK Hynix and Micron have shifted production toward high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for AI servers, tightening mobile DRAM supply and driving up costs.

Q3. Will Apple and Samsung raise smartphone prices due to higher memory costs?

Answer. Apple reportedly plans to keep the iPhone 18 Pro’s starting price unchanged, while Samsung is expected to raise Galaxy S26 prices because of similar supply pressures.
