Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Leak Hints at Downgraded 10MP 3x Telephoto Camera

0

Highlights

  • The S26 Ultra may feature a downgraded 10MP 3x telephoto camera using a smaller 1/3.94-inch sensor with 1.0µm pixels.
  • It will be less capable than the S25 Ultra’s Sony IMX754 sensor (1/3.52-inch, 1.12µm), potentially impacting low-light and detail performance.
  • The 50MP 5x periscope lens, 200MP main wide camera, and 50MP ultra-wide lens are expected to remain unchanged.

Samsung is gearing up to launch the Galaxy S26 series in January 2026. A fresh leak has raised eyebrows among fans expecting major camera improvements. It appears Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra instead might actually take a step backwards in one area. Here’s what we are hearing.

Galaxy S26 Ultra Latest Leak

According to well-known tipster Ice Universe on X (formerly Twitter), the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to feature a 12MP sensor cropped to 10MP for its 3x telephoto camera. The leak claims the phone will use a 1/3.94-inch sensor with 1.0µm pixels.

This represents a downgrade compared to the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s Sony IMX754 sensor, which offered 12MP (cropped to 10MP) with a 1/3.52-inch size and 1.12µm pixels. While the difference may seem small, sensor size and pixel pitch play a critical role in light capture, affecting low-light photography and overall image detail.

The rest of the camera system is expected to remain mostly unchanged. The standout 50MP 5x periscope telephoto lens (1/2.52-inch, 0.7µm, 111mm) from the S25 Ultra will reportedly carry over.

This keeps Samsung competitive, though rivals are moving quickly. Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro features a 48MP 5x telephoto, while several upcoming Ultra flagships from Chinese brands are rumoured to integrate Sony’s new 200MP sensor.

Ice Universe also revealed that Samsung had considered alternative options such as switching to a 50MP 4x telephoto setup, but technical limitations and timing issues prevented the change. A 200MP telephoto, on the other hand, was dismissed due to high costs.

As of now, Samsung’s main 200MP wide camera and 50MP ultra-wide lens are expected to remain the same as on the S25 Ultra. However, leaked renders showing a thicker camera bump have fueled speculation about possible new optics, though there’s little concrete evidence to confirm that.

If this leak turns out to be true, Samsung may rely heavily on software optimisations and advanced image processing to offset the rumoured hardware downgrade. Whether that will be enough to stay competitive in the flagship camera race against Apple and Chinese brands remains uncertain.

FAQs

Q1. What camera downgrade is expected in the Galaxy S26 Ultra?

Answer. Samsung may use a smaller 1/3.94-inch sensor with 1.0µm pixels for its 10MP 3x telephoto camera, down from the S25 Ultra’s 1/3.52-inch sensor with 1.12µm pixels. This could impact low-light performance and image detail.

Q2. Will the rest of the camera setup of Galaxy S26 Ultra change significantly?

Answer. No major changes are expected. The 50MP 5x periscope lens, 200MP main wide camera, and 50MP ultra-wide lens from the S25 Ultra are likely to carry over. Samsung reportedly explored upgrades like a 50MP 4x or 200MP telephoto but dropped them due to cost and timing issues.

Q3, How might Samsung compensate for the hardware downgrade of Galaxy S26 Ultra?

Answer. Samsung may rely on software optimisations and advanced image processing to maintain image quality. Leaked renders showing a thicker camera bump have sparked speculation about new optics, but no solid evidence confirms this yet.

Google has introduced a new subscription tier called AI Plus specifically for users in emerging markets. The company says the plan is “designed to empower people in emerging markets to do more with Google AI, for less.”

Positioned between the free plan and AI Pro (priced at $19.99 per month in the US), the new AI Plus tier brings several premium AI features at a more affordable cost.

With AI Plus, users get greater access to Gemini 2.5 Pro. Currently, free-tier users are limited to just five prompts per day, though Google has yet to confirm the exact daily prompt limit for AI Plus. For comparison, AI Pro offers 100 prompts per day, while AI Ultra provides 500.

The Gemini app under AI Plus comes with a 128K token context window, a notable jump from the 32K limit on free accounts, though still less than the 1 million tokens offered on higher tiers.

Subscribers also gain access to Veo 3 Fast, along with creative tools like Google Flow (video creation) and Whisk (standalone image-to-video). Additionally, AI Plus integrates Gemini into the side panel of Gmail, Google Docs, and Sheets, while also expanding NotebookLM usage for enhanced productivity.

One of the biggest perks included is 200GB of Google One cloud storage, adding extra value to the subscription.

As of now, Google AI Plus is available only in Indonesia, but the company says more countries will follow. In Indonesia, AI Pro costs Rp. 309,000 (around $18.79) per month, while AI Plus is priced at Rp. 75,000 (around $4.56). If expanded globally, the subscription will likely remain under $20 per month, though regional pricing will vary.

FAQs

Q1. What is Google AI Plus and who is it for?

Answer. Google AI Plus is a new subscription tier designed for users in emerging markets, offering premium AI features at a lower cost than AI Pro or AI Ultra.

Q2. What benefits does Google AI Plus include?

Answer. Subscribers get access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, Veo 3 Fast, Google Flow, Whisk, 128K token context window, Gmail/Docs integration, NotebookLM, and 200GB Google One storage.

Q3. Where is Google AI Plus available and how much does it cost?

Answer. AI Plus is currently available in Indonesia for Rp. 75,000 (~$4.56/month). Google plans to expand to more countries, with pricing expected to stay under $20 globally.

Apple Extends Free Satellite Features for iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 Users Until 2026

0

Highlights

  • iPhone 14 and 15 users activated before Sept 9, 2025 will get free satellite features until at least mid-2026.
  • Services rely on Globalstar’s network and are unavailable in select regions like China, Russia, and Belarus despite device availability.
  • Apple hasn’t announced a paid plan, fueling speculation that life-saving features may remain free.

Apple has officially announced that iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 users will get an additional year of free access to its satellite communication services. The company revealed this extension in press materials for the newly launched iPhone 17 and iPhone Air models.

According to Apple, “The free trial will be extended for iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 users who have activated their device in a country that supports Apple’s satellite features prior to 12AM PT on September 9, 2025.”

This means that all eligible iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 devices activated before the deadline will continue to enjoy free access to satellite features until at least mid-September 2026.

Originally, free satellite access for iPhone 15 models was set to expire this month, while iPhone 14 users were supposed to lose access in September 2024. Apple has now extended the trial period twice for iPhone 14 owners, fueling speculation about whether the company plans to eventually charge for these services. Apple has not confirmed any pricing structure so far.

Some industry watchers believe Apple may never put these safety features behind a paywall. As one Redditor argued after last year’s announcement, “I can’t see Apple ever charging for [Emergency SOS via satellite]. The positive PR of ‘saved by Apple’ is too good, and the negative PR of ‘died because they didn’t pay $3’ is too bad.”

For now, the features remain free and include Emergency SOS via satellite, roadside assistance requests, messaging friends and family, and location sharing when users are outside cellular and Wi-Fi coverage.

Apple relies on Globalstar’s satellite network to power these services. However, availability varies by region. The features are not supported on iPhones sold in Armenia, Belarus, mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Russia, even though Apple sells devices in these markets.

With the extension, Apple is ensuring that more iPhone users continue to benefit from these life-saving satellite features, at least through late 2026.

FAQs

Q1. Which iPhones are eligible for the extended free satellite services?

Answer. iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 models activated before 12AM PT on September 9, 2025, in supported countries will receive free satellite access until mid-September 2026.

Q2. What iPhone satellite features are included in the free trial?

Answer. Users get Emergency SOS via satellite, roadside assistance requests, location sharing, and messaging when outside cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.

Q3. Are these satellite services available worldwide?

Answer. No, Apple’s satellite features are unavailable in regions like China, Russia, Belarus, and others, even though iPhones are sold in those markets.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Leak Suggests Thicker Camera Bump Despite Slimmer Body

0

Highlights

  • The Galaxy S26 Ultra may feature a thinner 7.9mm chassis but a significantly larger 4.5mm camera bump, up from 2.4mm on the S25 Ultra.
  • Despite the chunkier module, Samsung is expected to retain the 50MP 1/2.52-inch telephoto sensor, possibly prepping for future enhancements.
  • The protruding camera could make the phone wobble when laid flat, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s uneven surface without a case.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra has been the subject of multiple leaks and the latest one sheds light on its potential design changes. We are specifically hearing reports of a much chunkier camera bump. While Samsung is reportedly making the phone thinner overall, the tradeoff seems to be an enlarged camera island that sticks out noticeably more than its predecessor. Here’s more on that.

Galaxy S26 Ultra To Get Chunkier Camera Bump

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra's camera bump reaches 4.5mm.

The leak comes from well-known tipster Ice Universe, who shared new details on X (formerly Twitter) along with a render of the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s side profile. According to the leak, Samsung has managed to slim down the phone’s chassis to 7.9mm, compared to the 8.2mm thickness of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. However, the camera lenses will reportedly protrude much further than before.

On the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the camera lenses extended about 2.4mm from the glass back. For the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung is said to be nearly doubling that, with the camera module sticking out by a significant 4.5mm.

This means that at its thickest point, the Galaxy S26 Ultra could measure 12.4mm, compared to 10.6mm on the Galaxy S25 Ultra and roughly 12mm on rivals like the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10.

While a larger bump typically hints at bigger or more advanced sensors, Ice Universe claims this might not be the case here.

According to the leaker, Samsung will continue using the 1/2.52-inch 50MP telephoto sensor. It is a unit that could end up being the smallest telephoto sensor in a global flagship when the S26 series launches next year. This suggests that the enlarged module may be more about preparing for future hardware upgrades than delivering immediate improvements.

If accurate, this design could make the Galaxy S26 Ultra less stable when placed flat on a table. It could be similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which tends to wobble without a case due to its uneven surface.

FAQs

Q1. What design change is expected in the Galaxy S26 Ultra?

Answer. The S26 Ultra may feature a thinner 7.9mm body but a significantly larger camera bump, protruding 4.5mm, nearly double that of the S25 Ultra.

Q2. Will the Galaxy S26 Ultra have upgraded camera sensors?

Answer. Despite the larger camera module, leaks suggest Samsung will retain the 50MP 1/2.52-inch telephoto sensor, possibly prepping for future upgrades.

Q3. Could the new design of Galaxy S26 Ultra affect usability?

Answer. Yes, some reports suggest the thicker camera bump may cause the phone to wobble when placed flat, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s uneven surface without a case.

Apple has officially unveiled its 2025 iPhone lineup, introducing the iPhone 17 series and the ultra-slim iPhone Air with a redesigned look, fresh colors, and next-gen processors. Alongside the new launches, Apple has quietly removed some older iPhones from its online store in India and globally.

iPhones Removed from Apple Store

The models no longer listed on Apple’s official website include –

  • iPhone 16 Pro
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15 (base model)

While these devices have been pulled from the online store, they are not entirely discontinued. Customers can still purchase them through authorised Apple resellers, e-commerce platforms, and retail partners while stocks last.

Interestingly, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max were the only older models with support for Apple Intelligence, Apple’s AI-powered personal intelligence system that blends generative models with personal context. With their removal, the iPhones currently available directly from Apple all come with Apple Intelligence support by default.

Apple Intelligence on New iPhones

The latest lineup ensures broader access to Apple Intelligence. The iPhone 16, iPhone 16e, iPhone 17 series, and iPhone Air all support the feature.

The base iPhone 17 runs on the A19 chipset, offering a 20% performance boost over the A18. The iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro models are powered by the more advanced A19 Pro chip, which delivers up to 40% faster performance compared to their predecessors.

Apple has also introduced Ceramic Shield 2 protection on both the front and back, offering 3x better scratch resistance than before. According to Apple, this makes the iPhone Air the most durable iPhone to date.

A distinctive new design element is a rear plateau that spans the entire width of the phone, housing the rear camera, front camera, speaker, and Apple Silicon.

Apple explains, “Featuring a breakthrough design with pro performance, iPhone Air is the thinnest iPhone ever made at 5.6mm, and it is incredibly light, with a large, stunning display. The grade 5 titanium frame is strong, with an elegant high-gloss mirror finish, and a new plateau on the back that is precision-milled on both sides to house the cameras, speaker, and Apple silicon. This maximizes space for the battery to deliver remarkable all-day battery life. The thin design also features the Action button, so users can easily access a variety of functions with just a press, and Camera Control, to quickly launch the camera or enable visual intelligence”
