You know how every year, phone makers hype up their latest camera tech like it’s the second coming?

Well, Vivo’s taking that to new levels with their upcoming X100 Ultra flagship.

They’re banging on about this “Blue Image” wizardry that promises to put Samsung’s beloved shooters in the shade.

What’s the Blue Image Scoop?

From what we can gather, it’s some fancy new camera setup that Vivo’s top guy Jingdong is gassing up on Chinese social media.

He’s going on about how it combines cutting-edge optics, beastly image processing, and raw computing grunt.

The end goal?

Next-level low-light skills and the ability to nail those slick backlit portraits like a pro.

If the hype’s to be believed, Blue Image will let the X100 Ultra see in the dark better than a barn owl.

We’re talking noiselessly brightening up those midnight cityscapes and dimly-lit interiors without breaking a sweat.

If they crack that one, it could dethrone Samsung’s Nightography as the low-light king.

Backlight Adjustments

Another string to Blue Image’s bow?

Apparently, it’ll make shooting against bright backgrounds a breeze.

You know those artsy backlit portraits that are all the rage on Instagram?

The kind that puts your subject in silhouette against a vibrant sunsetty backdrop?

Vivo reckons this tech will have you nailing those shots like Annie Leibovitz herself.

Zeiss Does It

To give the X100 Ultra’s shooters even more oomph, Vivo’s brought famed optics titans Zeiss into the mix.

Their glass already graces some of the best mobile cams out there, so pairing it with Blue Image’s digital trickery could be a masterstroke.

If the rumour mill churns out truth, the X100 Ultra is packing some serious camera heat too.

We’re talking a wild 200MP periscope lens for crazy zoom reach, plus a 50MP main snapper, an ultrawide, and another tele cam. Sheesh.

Dethrone the King?

Vivo X100 Ultra Camera Specs Reportedly Leaked Showing 200MP Periscope Camera
Vivo can truly deliver on that Blue Image promise

Frankly, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra is still the Android cam champ for my money. Its low-light game and versatile lens setup are just chef’s kiss.

But if Vivo can truly deliver on that Blue Image promise? They might finally dethrone the South Korean giant.

A Glimpse at Blue’s Potential

Equipped with a 50MP front-facing camera featuring Samsung's JN1 sensor
Offers potential to surpass Samsung’s Nightography as the top mobile camera

For a taster of what Blue Image could bring, just gawp at the stunning shots from last year’s X100 Pro.

Vibrant colours, gorgeous bokeh for days, and and depth like you’re peering into a diorama. If the Ultra builds on that foundation with its new tech? We could be seeing real DSLR-beating skills.

Of course, all this Blue Image hoopla could just be marketing spiel to get the hype train rolling.

But even as a cynical old photog, I’m itching to see if Vivo’s put their money where their mouth is. If it lives up to the hype, we could finally have a Samsung slayer on our hands for mobile photography supremacy. Now that’s exciting!

iPhone 16 vs iPhone 16 Pro Rumoured Differences: All The Leaks in One Place!

Highlights

  • iPhone 16 Pro rumored to feature titanium chassis and Capture button.
  • Exclusive 120Hz ProMotion display and periscope camera for iPhone 16 Pro.
  • Both models might debut with the new A18 chip, enhancing performance.
  • iPhone 16 Pro may offer enhanced AI capabilities and faster charging with USB-C.

Every year, Apple likes to put some clear blue water between its regular and Pro iPhone models.

And from what the rumour mill’s been churning out, the iPhone 16 lineup looks set to double down on that divide when it arrives this fall.

Show Me the Money!

iPhone 16 Pro rumored to feature titanium chassis and Capture button
iPhone 16 Pro rumored to feature titanium chassis and Capture button

Of course, we’re still ages away from getting pricing deets.

But going off past form, you can expect to shell out a couple of hundred quid more for the Pro model over the standard iPhone 16. Maybe $799 and $999 price tags respectively? Just a ballpark, mind you.

Design and Display Departures

Leaked iPhone 16 Lineup Battery Capacities Suggest Varied Enhancements
iPhone 16 and 16 Pro will likely keep that signature iPhone look

On the design front, the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro will likely keep that signature iPhone look.

Though word is the Pro could rock a fancy titanium chassis this time around.

There are also whispers about an extra ‘Capture’ button on the Pro for quick camera access. Nifty.

Display-wise, the cheaper iPhone 16 is tipped to stick with that trusty 6.1-inch screen size. But its premium Pro sibling might go large with a 6.3-inch panel.

The really juicy bit? Only the 16 Pro is expected to get that silky 120Hz ProMotion display. Bit of a gut-punch for the regular model.

Snap Happy

Exclusive 120Hz ProMotion display and periscope camera for iPhone 16 Pro
Exclusive 120Hz ProMotion display and periscope camera for iPhone 16 Pro

When it comes to cameras, Apple will really want to give the Pro some verhaa. Insiders reckon it’ll get a serious overhaul – upgraded main sensor, better ultrawide lens, and most tantalisingly, a super-zoomy periscope telephoto cam with 5x optical reach. Tasty.

Meanwhile, the basic iPhone 16 could be left making do with digital zoom and no dedicated telephoto snapper. Though it might pinch the Pros’ neat Spatial Video trick at least.

SoC Champs and Battery

Both models might debut with the new A18 chip, enhancing performance
Both models might debut with the new A18 chip, enhancing performance

Here’s a big one – Apple may finally ditch using last year’s Pro silicon for the base iPhone 16.

Both models could run varieties of the shiny new A18 chip.

But you’d obviously expect the Pro to pack more muscle under the hood.

On the battery front, the rumour mill’s been a bit quiet so far. But the larger size of the iPhone 16 Pro points to potential for a bigger cell.

There’s also been some whispers about Apple finding ways to keep overheating in check on the Pro models. Handy if true.

Oh, and faster charging could be on the cards for the Pro too, finally taking advantage of USB-C speeds.

AI, Oh AI

iPhone 16 Pro may offer enhanced AI capabilities and faster charging with USB-C
iPhone 16 you opt for, both are set to run iOS 18

No matter which iPhone 16 you opt for, both are set to run iOS 18 with its big focus on artificial intelligence.

We’re talking a smarter, super-powered version of Siri that can handle way more complex tasks than the current version.

Just how much AI grunt you’ll get may depend on your chip though.

There are suggestions that older iPhones might have to lean on cloud processing for certain AI capabilities if their hardware can’t keep up.

So there you have it – a whole lot of whispers and speculation to ponder as we count down to the iPhone 16 unveiling later this year.

One thing’s for sure, Apple won’t let the Pro model rest on its laurels when it comes to premium features and performance.

FAQs

What are the expected price differences between the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro?

Historically, the Pro model has been priced about $200 more than the standard version, with estimates around $799 for iPhone 16 and $999 for iPhone 16 Pro.

Will there be any significant design changes in the iPhone 16 series?

Both models will maintain a similar design aesthetic to previous generations, though the iPhone 16 Pro might introduce a titanium body and a new camera button.

What display features are exclusive to the iPhone 16 Pro?

Only the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to boast a 120Hz ProMotion display, offering smoother animations and responsiveness compared to the standard model’s display.

How will the camera systems differ between the two models?

The iPhone 16 Pro is anticipated to significantly upgrade its camera system, including a periscope telephoto lens for superior zoom capabilities, unlike the standard iPhone 16.

What advancements can we expect in processing and AI capabilities?

Both iPhone 16 models are rumored to feature the new A18 chip, but the Pro model might have enhanced AI functionalities, particularly benefiting from the latest iOS 18 features.

What are the rumoured battery capacities for the iPhone 16 series?

The iPhone 16 series is rumoured to bring varied battery capacities, with the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models expected to see an increase to 3,355mAh and 4,676mAh, respectively.

Conversely, the iPhone 16 Plus might experience a reduction to 4,006mAh, while the standard iPhone 16 could receive a modest increase to 3,561mAh.

Why might the iPhone 16 Pro models get bigger batteries?

The rumoured increase in battery sizes for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max could be in response to their expected larger display sizes, necessitating more power.

Additionally, advancements in chip efficiency, particularly with the anticipated A18 chip’s 3nm process, may help balance out the increased power demand.

Can the decrease in battery size affect iPhone 16 Plus performance?

A decrease in the battery capacity of the iPhone 16 Plus could impact its overall battery life, especially if the phone’s power demands are similar or greater than its predecessor.

How this change will affect the user experience remains to be seen, pending official details from Apple.

How reliable are these early iPhone 16 battery capacity rumours?

While leaks and rumours offer early insights, they should be taken with caution. Battery capacities and other specifications can change throughout the development process, and not all early leaks accurately reflect the final product.

Official announcements from Apple will provide concrete information.

Realme P1 Battles Lava Blaze Curve in Performance Showdown: Who wins?

0

Highlights

  • Lava Blaze Curve edges out in Geekbench scores despite similar hardware.
  • Realme P1 shines in AnTuTu benchmarks with superior GPU performance.
  • Lava maintains better thermal management and battery efficiency in gaming tests.
  • Realme offers a higher-resolution camera and newer Android version.

The new Realme P1 has been making waves for packing some impressive specs at a killer price point starting at just Rs 14,999.

We’re talking an AMOLED display, blazing-fast UFS 3.1 storage, and a powerful MediaTek chipset – specs you’d expect to find on pricier phones.

In fact, Realme built this one from the ground up with “P” standing for performance.

But does it really punch above its weight class?

To find out, we pit it against the Rs 18,999 Lava Blaze Curve in a head-to-head performance showdown. (All testing and benchmark details provided by 91mobiles).

Realme P1 5G: Unboxing Experience

Benchmark Battles

Benchmark Battles
Benchmark Battles

While both pack the same MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chip, the Blaze Curve surprisingly edged out higher single and multi-core Geekbench scores.

Those numbers suggest it might handle demanding tasks a tad more efficiently under heavy loads.

AnTuTu benchmark testing CPU and GPU muscle
AnTuTu benchmark testing CPU and GPU muscle

However, the tables turned in the AnTuTu benchmark testing CPU and GPU muscle.

Here, the Realme P1 scored higher overall, while also proving more efficient – consuming just 5% battery compared to 10% on the Blaze Curve, though it did run hotter.

Throttling Tests

Throttling Tests
Throttling Tests

To really stress them out, the 91mobiles team fired up the Burnout throttling test simulating prolonged heavy use.

The Lava phone proved more consistent at maintaining peak performance over time while better managing its thermals.

It seems that Lava has cracked the thermal output game better than Realme although at this budget price point, you are hardly going to do extreme performance tasks that can throttle down the CPU.

Real-World Gaming

Real-World Gaming
Real-World Gaming

For real-world testing, 91mobiles used some graphic-intensive games like BGMI. Both could hit that sweet 120Hz refresh rate with HDR enabled and played games smoothly.

But after 30 minutes, the Blaze Curve came out ahead – sipping less battery at 6% versus 7% on the Realme while running just a hair cooler.

Clearly the Realme is not stressed by the graphics on offer but the Lava Blaze Curve, as demanded by its pricetag, is just a better device to play heavy-duty games on.

The Verdict

The Verdict
The Verdict

So based on 91mobiles’ rigorous testing across benchmarks and actual gaming, the higher-priced Lava Blaze Curve consistently exhibited a slight performance edge over Realme’s affordable powerhouse.

Other Factors

Realme P1 and P1 Pro debut with top-tier MediaTek and Snapdragon processors
Other Factors

Of course, there are other factors to weigh too – the Realme rocks a higher-res 64MP main camera compared to 50MP on the Lava.

It also ships with Android 14 out of the box instead of 13, offers faster 45W charging to the Lava’s 33W, and retains the 3.5mm headphone jack.

But if raw performance is your top priority in this price range, the Lava Blaze Curve seems to hold a modest yet measurable advantage based on these test results from the 91mobiles team.

Solid value from both, but the Blaze gets the performance crown.

Widespread Apple ID Logouts Puzzle Users Across Devices

Highlights

  • Numerous users report unexpected Apple ID logouts.
  • Apple service status remains normal despite user complaints.
  • Password reset required to regain access to Apple ID.
  • Potential link to recent security breaches unconfirmed.

People, it would seem that serious Apple ID confusion is going on.

Social media feeds are blowing up with people saying they randomly got logged out of their accounts across all devices tonight.

They had to reset their passwords just to get back in.

Have you been kicked out of your Apple ID too?

The first chatter about this popped up in 9to5Mac’s iMessage group chat around 8 pm Eastern.

Since that time, complaints have started to roll in with greater reach.

Oddly, the Apple website reports all of their services operational.

Judging from the amount of reports, something is definitely screwy going on behind the scenes over there.

A couple of their co-workers there have been hit by it too.

All devices are now being signed out of the Apple IDs.

Old password gives no go—completely locked out.

That process of resetting your password is the only way back in.

There doesn’t appear to be any clear reason why this is happening for specific accounts.

Not sure if this has something to do with those huge waves of log-outs related to those problems over password breaches that Apple has had recently.

Chances are that those are different things, but who knows at this point.

Another serious headache is having Find My or Activation Lock on and then getting automatically logged out, likely when you are not around a trusted location.

One more annoyance, though: changing your Apple ID password makes all those app-specific passwords you may have set up worthless, too.

So you’d have to rejigger them if you used that feature.

Just a big mess all around tonight for a lot of Apple users.

We haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing that one yet, but we are optimistic! Drop us a line if you got bounced, too.

FAQs

What is happening with Apple IDs tonight?

Users are reporting sudden logouts from their Apple IDs across all devices, requiring a password reset to access their accounts again.

Are Apple’s services down?

Despite widespread user reports of Apple ID issues, Apple’s official system status page shows all services as operational.

What should I do if I’ve been logged out of my Apple ID?

If you’re affected, the only current solution is to reset your Apple ID password to regain access to your devices and services.

Could this issue be related to recent security breaches?

It’s unclear if these logouts are connected to past security issues. Apple has not confirmed any direct link between this event and prior breaches.

What happens to my app-specific passwords if I reset my Apple ID password?

Resetting your Apple ID password will invalidate any app-specific passwords you have set up, so you will need to recreate them after regaining access.

Apple Faces Accusations of Using Conflict Minerals from Congo

0

Highlights

  • Congo accuses Apple of using illegally extracted minerals.
  • Apple denies direct financial connections to armed groups.
  • Allegations include serious human rights abuses in mineral sourcing.
  • Recent US court ruling dismissed related child labor claims against tech companies.

The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo has officially accused Apple Inc. of using minerals that have been illegally extracted from the conflict-ridden eastern regions of the nation in the production of its devices.

These legal representatives of the African country alleged that Apple uses minerals smuggled out of the DRC and into neighboring Rwanda, where they are legitimized, and then included in the international supply chain.

Apple responded

Responding to an AFP request for a reaction, Apple France said it will carefully study the formal notice of termination of the prelitigation before reacting comprehensively.

Instead, the company said that based on its best efforts of due diligence, it had not found reasonable grounds to conclude that any of its smelters or refiners of tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold directly or indirectly financed or benefited armed groups operating in the DRC or adjoining countries in any manner as of December 31, 2023.

The Great Lakes region holds great deposits of mineral resources, hence the high levels of violence in this region.

The regional tension that started getting out of control in the 1990s and erupted anew late in 2021, when the M23 rebel movement launched a fresh assault to recapture major territory.

The DRC, the United Nations, and Western nations have repeatedly accused Rwanda of backing the rebels, including the M23, in order to keep a grip on the region’s huge mineral wealth.

Human Rights Violation Accusation

Apple’s court representation has stated that the technology provided by Apple has actually commercialized minerals that come from an area in which grave human rights abuses, including sexual violence, armed attacks, and widespread corruption at mining sites, have left the local population decimated.

They said that those products—Macs, iPhones, and more—contained the “blood of the Congolese people.”

In another related development, a US federal appeals court recently threw out a lawsuit by Apple, Google, Tesla, and other technological behemoths on grounds of child labor in cobalt mining in DRC.

Even though it awarded them legal standing, the DC Circuit Court of Appeals ruled unanimously that the plaintiffs failed to meet the legal threshold necessary to sustain their claims against the companies.

With the rapid change going towards clean energy around the world, there is a growing, pulsating demand for lithium ion batteries to power smart phones, laptops, and electric vehicles.

The DRC supplies over 70 percent of the world’s cobalt, a critical component in these batteries.

Yet up to 30 percent of the country’s cobalt is sourced from according to some estimates, these are “artisanal mines,” where thousands of freelance miners work in conditions described as “subhuman” and “degrading,” being paid only a few dollars a day.

FAQs

What are the accusations against Apple regarding minerals?

The Democratic Republic of Congo has accused Apple of using minerals in their devices that are illegally mined and smuggled from conflict areas within the country, contributing to regional violence.

How has Apple responded to these allegations?

Apple stated that its due diligence efforts up to December 31, 2023, have not shown any direct or indirect financial benefits to armed groups from the minerals used in their products.

What are the implications of using conflict minerals?

Conflict minerals, such as cobalt and tungsten, are often sourced in ways that fuel violence, violate human rights, and exploit workers, including children, in mining regions like the DRC.

What is the significance of the minerals mentioned in the allegations?

The minerals in question—tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold—are crucial for manufacturing consumer electronics like smartphones and laptops, making ethical sourcing vital for companies like Apple.

What legal actions have been taken regarding these issues?

A US federal appeals court recently dismissed a lawsuit alleging child labor practices in cobalt mining used for products by Apple and other tech firms, citing insufficient legal grounds to proceed with the claims.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 May Feature Triple Camera Setup: Reports

0
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5

Highlights

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 might include a new triple camera system.
  • Design patents suggest a possible third lens for the upcoming foldable.
  • Galaxy Z Flip series may see its first zoom camera in the next iteration.
  • The Z Flip 7 continues Samsung’s trend of yearly improvements to foldables.

Samsung might upgrade the camera on their next Galaxy Z Flip 7 phone. Some new design patents from the company show a Flip phone with three cameras on the back.

Like the Galaxy S phones, these could be a main camera, an ultrawide lens, and a zoom camera. The current Flip models don’t have a zoom camera yet.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 May Feature Triple Camera Setup: Reports
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 May Feature Triple Camera Setup: Reports

Samsung has been making foldable flip phones under the Flip name since 2020. They’ll soon release their sixth model, the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Each new version gets some improvements over the last one.

Over the years, the cover screen got bigger, the hinge got slimmer, the thickness went down, and the build quality got better.

Samsung also made the cameras better on these phones. However, they never added a zoom lens yet.

The Flip series is the only $1,000+ Samsung product without a zoom camera. Last year’s Z Flip 5 didn’t have it, and leaks suggest the upcoming model won’t either – it seems to just have two rear cameras again.

Three Cameras on Z Flip?

Design patents suggest a possible third lens for the upcoming foldable
Design patents suggest a possible third lens for the upcoming foldable

Meanwhile, a site called Galaxy Club found two Samsung design patents showing three rear cameras on a Flip phone. One has the cameras and flash stacked vertically next to the cover display. The other separates the rectangular cover display from the cameras.

Supposedly Samsung filed for these patents in summer 2022 and got them approved in early 2023.

That was before they enlarged the cover screen and flattened the hinge on the latest models. So maybe Samsung already used some of these patented designs on the Z Flip 5, and will add the third camera later.

It’s unclear if the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will actually get three rear cameras. We also don’t know if that third lens would be a telephoto zoom or something else.

Rumours about Samsung’s 2025 foldables may start in a few months, after the expected July launch of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6. We’ll keep watching for any updates.

FAQs

What new features might the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 have?

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 could potentially feature a triple camera setup, marking the first time the series includes a zoom lens, enhancing its photography capabilities.

How does the Galaxy Z Flip 7 differ from previous models?

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to build on past improvements with a larger cover screen, slimmer hinge, and possibly a third camera that enhances its photographic versatility compared to previous models.

What are the design changes in the new Galaxy Z Flip?

Recent patents indicate that Samsung might integrate three cameras in a new configuration on the Galaxy Z Flip, possibly separating the cover display from the camera array for a sleeker design.

Threads Hits 150 Million Users and Plans New Features to Boost Engagement
Threads Hits 150 Million Users back in April

Highlights

  • Threads reaches 150 million monthly active users in Q1 2024.
  • Significant daily user drop post-launch, but many return to the platform.
  • Plans to connect Threads to the “Fediverse” with ActivityPub protocol.
  • Threads to introduce an API for third-party developers by June.

Threads, has surged to an impressive 150 million monthly active users, according to the company’s first quarter 2024 earnings report announced by CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg.

Of interest is the rollercoaster ride for Threads, where active daily users fell by an astonishing 82% from launch day after about a month.

Most of these users seem to be returning to the platform.

Challenging Decentralized

Threads Hits 150 Million Users and Plans New Features to Boost Engagement

TechCrunch has reported the new platform will rival decentralized social media outfits such as Mastodon, since this new platform will allow U.S. users over 18 to link their accounts to the “Fediverse” using the ActivityPub protocol.

Threads users’ posts will thus be visible beyond the app’s network over many servers, similar to how X is doing it right now.

Integration into the Meta Ecosystem

Threads reaches 150 million monthly active users in Q1 2024

While AI chatbots are used across Meta’s Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram, Threads is not included because there is no actual direct messaging.

However, Meta plans to release a Threads API to third-party developers by June, enabling them to create their own custom apps and experiences that will work with the Threads network.

Continuous innovation and growth

Threads Could Overtake Twitter’s Dominance
Plans to connect Threads to the “Fediverse” with ActivityPub protocol

In a statement shared by Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram and Threads, on Wednesday, he said the feature to archive posts on the application is being experimented with “with a small number of people.”

This should be another feature helping toward the purpose of overall user experience enhancement and increased engagement within the Threads community.

Although Threads is different from its closest rival X (formerly known as Twitter) in that it is ad-free and does not make any money as of yet, it has already overtaken that competitor in a few major markets.

Reports say, according to analytic firm Apptopia, that the Threads app now counts more daily active users in the US than X.

FAQs

What milestone did Threads achieve in the first quarter of 2024?

Threads reached 150 million monthly active users, as announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg in the company’s first quarter earnings report for 2024.

This milestone underscores its rapid growth despite initial user drop-offs.

How is Threads planning to compete with decentralized social networks?

Threads is set to rival decentralized platforms like Mastodon by allowing U.S. users over 18 to link their accounts to the “Fediverse” via the ActivityPub protocol, making their posts accessible beyond the app across various servers.

What new developments are expected for Threads by June?

Meta plans to release a Threads API to third-party developers by June, which will enable the creation of custom apps and experiences that integrate with Threads, potentially boosting the platform’s versatility and user engagement.

How does Threads’ user engagement compare to its competitors?

Despite a significant drop in daily users shortly after launch, many have returned, and Threads has started to outperform its closest rival, X (formerly known as Twitter), in daily active users in major markets like the US.
