Nothing has officially announced it’s working on its first-ever pair of over-ear headphones and they’re set to launch this summer. This marks the brand’s entry into a new category within its expanding audio lineup.

In a recently released video on Nothing’s official YouTube Channel, the brand has confirmed the development of headphones after earlier rumours started back in February. That’s when a pair of wireless headphones with the model number B170 were certified by SGS Fimko, hinting that the company was planning something big in the premium audio space.

Tech enthusiasts online were quick to note that the product seems to have been brewing for quite some time. Back in October 2022, Nothing CEO Carl Pei shared fan-made concepts of over-ear headphones. Those early designs appear to have influenced what the final product will look like, staying true to Nothing’s design-focused approach.

The company says the upcoming headphones will offer a standout look that sets users apart. Nothing’s design team found most current headphones boring and wanted to build something more visually expressive. Usability is also a key focus with clearly marked buttons that are easy to find and use without needing to take the headphones off.

Nothing also promises impressive sound quality for the price. In fact, the company claims that even users switching from premium headphones like Apple’s AirPods Max won’t be disappointed, despite what’s expected to be a much lower price tag.

These headphones will be part of a larger wave of new audio products currently in development, which comes on the heels of a new partnership with high-end audio brand KEF.

The official launch is planned for this summer. The timing could line up with the release of the Nothing Phone (3), making for an exciting duo of new products. If the headphones deliver on performance, design and value, they could make a serious impact in the market.

Q2. What makes Nothing’s headphones different from other models?

Answer. The brand aims to create a visually expressive design with easy-to-use buttons, addressing the common issue of traditional headphones being dull or inconvenient.

Q3. How does Nothing compare its headphones to premium brands?

Answer. Nothing claims that its headphones will offer impressive sound quality, suggesting that even users switching from premium brands like Apple’s AirPods Max won’t be disappointed, despite a lower price.

One of the biggest upgrades may be the front camera. It’s expected to jump from 5MP on the original Vibe to a 50MP selfie camera on the Vibe 2.

On the back, the phone could offer a dual-camera setup with a 50MP main sensor and a 2MP secondary sensor, likely for depth or macro shots. A 5000mAh battery will reportedly power the phone, with 33W wired charging support.

Netflix to Start Showing AI Ads Inside Shows and Movies by 2026

Highlights

  • Netflix will introduce AI-generated ads within shows and movies for users on its ad-supported plan.
  • These ads will blend into the content and appearing as overlays or during pauses.
  • Meta is also pushing AI-driven advertising, aiming to automate the entire ad process.

Netflix has announced it will start using AI to create ads that appear inside shows and movies on its ad-supported plan by 2026. These ads will be more than just traditional commercials. They will actually blend into the content you’re watching.

For example, Netflix showed a demo at its third Upfront event where a product image appeared over a background inspired by Stranger Things.

Users on the ad-supported plan can expect to see these AI-generated ads pop up during shows or movies, either as overlays or when they hit pause. The company said these new ad formats might include call-to-action buttons and could roll out as early as the end of this year.

What Netflix Said About AI Ads?

At the event, Amy Reinhard, Netflix’s President of Advertising, shared that the ad-supported plan now has over 94 million global monthly active users. She also said it’s more popular with 18-34-year-olds than any US cable or broadcast network. According to her, US users on the ad plan spend an average of 41 hours a month on Netflix.

“When you compare us to our competitors, attention starts higher and ends much higher. And even more impressive, members pay as much attention to mid-roll ads as they do to the shows and movies themselves,” Ms Reinhard said.

“So if you take away anything from today, I hope it’s this: the foundation of our ads business is in place. And going forward, the pace of progress is going to be even faster,” she added.

Explaining about the AI-generated ads in a blog post, the company wrote. “Netflix debuted a new modular framework for ad formats that leverages generative AI to instantly marry advertisers’ ads with the worlds of our shows. This will create a better, more relevant experience for our members and drive the best results. Reinhard unveiled the first capability with interactive midroll and pause formats that build custom advertising creative with added overlays, call to action, second screen buttons, and more to serve the right ad to the right member at the right time. These formats will be available by 2026 in all ad-supported countries.”

“I hope it’s this: the foundation of our ads business is in place. And going forward, the pace of progress is going to be even faster. Plus, we already have the most important thing: the most engaged audience anywhere,” Reinhard noted.

While Netflix confirmed that AI-generated ads are on the way, the company hasn’t revealed how exactly the ads will be targeted, whether based on viewing history or the show being watched at the time. Technical details about how these ads will work behind the scenes are also still under wraps.

Social Media Isn’t Happy

Many social media users were quick to express frustration. One user asked, “Are they testing new Black Mirror episode ideas on us now?”

Another said, “They already raised their prices. Now they want MORE revenue by using AI ads? Go away, Netflix.” A third added, “At this point, they are nudging us to go alternative routes of streaming.”

Are AI Ads A Growing Trend?

Netflix isn’t the only one moving in this direction. Meta is also pushing hard into AI advertising. Earlier this month, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Meta aims to handle the entire ad process with AI from writing copy to targeting the right audience.

“We’re going to get to a point where you’re a business, you come to us, you tell us what your objective is, you connect to your bank account, you don’t need any creative, you don’t need any targeting demographic, you don’t need any measurement, except to be able to read the results that we spit out. I think that’s going to be huge, I think it is a redefinition of the category of advertising,” said Mr Zuckerberg.

Meta has already rolled out a new AI model for Reels recommendations that boosted conversion rates by 5%. More than 30% of Meta’s customers are now using its AI tools to create ad content.

 FAQs

Q1. What are Netflix AI-generated ads, and how will they appear?

Answer. Netflix plans to introduce AI-generated ads within shows and movies on its ad-supported plan by 2026. These ads will blend seamlessly into the content, appearing as overlays or during pauses, possibly featuring call-to-action buttons.

Q2. How are social media users reacting to Netflix AI ads?

Answer. Many social media users expressed frustration, seeing AI-generated ads as intrusive. Some joked about Netflix testing Black Mirror-style ideas, while others criticised the company for prioritising revenue over user experience.

Q3. Are AI-generated ads becoming a trend in the industry?

Answer. Yes, other companies, like Meta, are also embracing AI-driven advertising. Meta aims to automate the entire ad process, from ad creation to targeting, and has already seen increased ad performance using AI tools.

YouTube Uses Gemini AI To Place Ads At “Peak Points”, Launches Weekly Top Podcast Chart in the US

0

Highlights

  • YouTube is using Gemini AI to identify Peak Points in a video and placing ads right there.
  • No official release date for this new feature yet.
  • The platform has also launched a Weekly Top Podcast Shows chart in the US, ranking the top 100 podcasts based on watch time.
  • It updates every Wednesday and is part of YouTube Charts alongside trending music, songs, artists and Shorts.

image

YouTube is getting smarter about how it shows ads, thanks to AI. During its recent “Brandcast,”  YouTube shared that it’s now using Gemini AI to figure out the best moments in a video to place ads specifically right after the parts people care about most.

These key moments are now being labelled as “Peak Points.” They’re the parts of a video where viewers are most engaged, maybe a big reveal or an exciting moment that keeps people hooked. YouTube says it will place ads after these moments, not during them, to avoid interrupting the most important parts of a video.

In a blog post, YouTube revealed that this new ad product will ensure ads are inserted in a video at the point just after where the audience is most engaged.

The streaming platform explained, “We also announced Peak Points, a new product built with Gemini that identifies the most meaningful, or “peak,” moments within YouTube’s popular content to place your brand where audiences are the most engaged.”

In a demo, YouTube showed an ad appearing right after a proposal scene and not during, so it doesn’t break the flow. This approach could be a win-win as ads appear when people are still paying attention, but without cutting into a key moment.

There’s no official release date yet, but it sounds like this feature could roll out soon.

YouTube Launches Weekly Podcast Chart

image

YouTube has also launched a new Weekly Top Podcast Shows chart in the US, reflecting its push into podcasts. The chart can be found at charts.youtube.com/podcasts and highlights the top 100 podcasts in the US based on watch time. It updates every Wednesday with the current list showing data from May 5–11, 2025.

YouTube says, “Charts will include playlists that are designated as ‘podcasts’ by the creator in the upload process, and will not include playlists that contain only clips or Shorts.”

This new chart is part of the larger YouTube Charts section that also covers trending music, songs, artists and Shorts.

The idea is to help users find shows they might be missing or see how their favourites are ranking.

YouTube adds that the new chart “recognizes and celebrates top podcasters who are redefining the next era of entertainment with engaging, influential, culture-defining shows across a variety of genres like News, Sports, Comedy, and True Crime.”

YouTube is also planning to expand podcast charts to more regions and says it’s “building out more features.”

Even though it’s been a quiet few months for new podcast-related tools, YouTube is still widely used for podcast listening. In fact, Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend just started uploading full video episodes this week, showing there’s still strong demand, even without major new updates since late 2023 or early 2024.

FAQs

Q1. What is YouTube’s new “Peak Points” ad feature, and how does it work?

The Sony WH-1000XM6 is available in Black, Platinum Silver and Midnight Blue colour options.

It is priced at $449.99 USD. The packaging is eco-friendly, made from 100% paper using Sony’s Original Blended Material, which combines bamboo, sugarcane fiber, and recycled paper.

Sony WH-1000XM6 Headphones – Key Features

At the heart of the XM6 is Sony’s all-new HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3, which is seven times faster than the chip in the previous model. It works alongside twelve microphones to automatically fine-tune noise cancellation depending on your surroundings. This is 1.5 times more than before.

There’s also a new feature called Adaptive NC Optimizer that adjusts noise cancelling based on ambient noise levels and even air pressure. A redesigned driver unit also helps block out unwanted sounds more effectively. For moments when you need to hear what’s happening around you, Auto Ambient Sound mode lets in important sounds like train or flight announcements. You can control these settings manually or automatically through the Sony Sound Connect app.

To ensure top-notch sound quality, Sony teamed up with mastering engineers from Sterling Sound, Battery Studios, and Coast Mastering. You get two main sound profiles, Classical and Balanced, and hardware improvements like a carbon fibre dome and a custom voice coil to enhance detail across all frequency ranges.

The headphones support High-Resolution Audio and LDAC and even compressed files are upscaled in real time using Edge-AI and DSEE Extreme.

You can fine-tune the sound using a 10-band equaliser or pick from preset modes like Game EQ (ideal for shooters) or Cinema 360 Reality Audio Upmix (great for movies). For calls, the XM6 uses a six-mic beamforming setup that clearly separates your voice from background noise. There’s even a dedicated mute button.

The synthetic leather headband is wider and the earpads are softer, making them ideal for long listening sessions. The asymmetrical headband makes it easy to tell the left side from the right at a glance. The headphones fold up using metal-injected joints and come with a magnetically closing compact case.

The WH-1000XM6 also includes smart features like Scene-based Listening, which uses built-in sensors to adjust sound and noise control based on what you’re doing and where you are. It supports Spotify Tap, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music. With LE Audio and AuraCast, you get low-latency playback and audio sharing. It also supports Multi-Point and Auto Switch, so you can seamlessly move between devices without disconnecting.

Battery life is solid too with up to 30 hours with noise cancelling on. Plus, a 3-minute quick charge gives 3 hours of playback and you can listen while charging via USB-C.
