In a move to outpace its rival, X (previously known as Twitter), Meta’s Instagram has unveiled a string of features for its app, Threads.
The most recent addition? Users can now activate notifications for specific threads they wish to monitor.
Revealed through an announcement on the platform, the feature enables users to opt-in to 24-hour notifications for chosen threads.
A tap on the bell icon situated at the upper right of a thread activates this feature. Should there be a new reply, users will find an alert awaiting them in their activity tab.
Interestingly, this particular feature is crafted exclusively for the app’s mobile version. Those preferring the web version aren’t left out, however.
Instagram has introduced the ability to quote other posts on the web client – a functionality that was missing at the web client’s initial launch.
Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, was swift to spread the news and pointed out that these aren’t the sole enhancements made this week.
For those who prioritise privacy, Instagram ensures peace of mind. To track a thread, there’s no requirement to follow the respective account.
Moreover, your tracking remains invisible to other users. And should you wish to disable the notifications? A simple tap on the bell icon again does the trick.
Such additions come at a critical time for Threads. The app seeks innovative methods to reverse the slide in its daily user engagement. Not long ago, it rolled out the keyword search function, addressing a glaring gap from its initial launch.
The current trajectory suggests that Instagram’s Threads is far from done. With a comprehensive list of features slated for the future, users and rivals alike wait for Threads’ next move.
Simply tap on the bell icon located at the upper right of any thread. This will enable notifications for that specific thread for the next 24 hours.
No, this feature has been designed exclusively for the mobile app. However, the web version now has the new functionality to quote other posts.
No, there’s no need to follow an account to activate thread notifications. Plus, other users won’t know that you’ve turned on notifications for a particular thread.
To deactivate the notifications, simply tap on the bell icon again on the specific thread you’ve chosen.
