Rumours about the PlayStation 5 Pro, a speculated mid-cycle hardware update for Sony’s current gaming console, have been circulating for some time.
However, there have been some new leaks on the ResetEra forums that have shed light on what could be the upcoming specifications for the PS5 Pro.
Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, when asked about the leak’s accuracy, stated he couldn’t comment on other people’s leaks.
However, he noted that Sony might expect full specifications to be leaked soon due to dev kit distributions to third-party studios.
So that does mean that the PS5 Pro is likely coming sooner rather than later.
The improved hardware might just put it close to high-end PCs in terms of graphical output, although that remains to be seen.
Of course, as of now, Sony has not officially acknowledged the existence of the PS5 Pro.
The company’s silence on this matter is not unusual, considering how the PS4 Pro just dropped out of the blue.
Perhaps, Microsoft’s innovations on a new version of the Xbox Series X, might accelerate Sony’s efforts.
The original PlayStation 5 was launched in 2020 and faced initial scarcity, partly due to supply chain issues and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sony recently announced a slimmer version of the PlayStation 5, featuring a new design, 1TB storage, and a detachable disk drive.
This new version is 30% smaller in volume than its predecessor and lighter by 18% and 24% for the physical and digital versions, respectively.
The slimmer PS5 is priced at $449.99 and $499.99 for both variants.
As for the Indian market, there has been no official announcement regarding the launch and pricing of the slimmer PS5.
The recent leaks on the PlayStation 5 Pro suggest significant hardware upgrades. The console is rumored to feature a new GPU codenamed Viola, utilizing TSMC’s 4NP process node and AMD RDNA3 architecture.
It targets a frequency of 2GHz, with 30WGPs potential, though retail units might have 28WGPs.
The CPU is expected to retain the AMD Zen 2 architecture with a peak frequency of 4.4GHz.
These enhancements are geared towards achieving stable upscaled 4K output at over 30fps, aligning with Sony’s focus on high-performance gaming.
The PlayStation 5 Pro is poised to be a significant step up from the original PS5, launched in 2020.
It aims to offer enhanced gaming experiences with a new GPU and CPU, along with advanced technologies like fast storage and accelerated ray tracing.
The speculative launch date for the PS5 Pro is September 2024, which is earlier than previous speculations of a November 2024 release.
This potential early launch indicates Sony’s commitment to staying competitive in the evolving gaming console market.
