Microsoft’s annual events Xbox Showcase and Xbox Games Showcase were held just a couple of weeks ago.
These events were packed with announcements for Xbox fans around the world.
One key announcement at the event was a new Xbox Series S console variant that comes with 1TB of storage space.

Microsoft is bringing the Xbox Series S 1TB black model to India in the first wave at the same time as global markets.

The Xbox Series S with upgraded storage and new paintjob will cost Rs 38,990 and go on sale starting from September 1, the console’s dedicated product listing page has confirmed. Globally, the model will retail for $349 which roughly translates to about Rs 28,800.

The Xbox Series S was originally launched in white with 512GB of base storage at a price of Rs 34,990. Microsoft markets the Series S as an affordable console offering close-to Xbox Series X power at a budget pricing thanks to a lack of disk drive and a few other core hardware changes.

But the console has been held back somewhat due to its puny internal storage of which only 364GB is available to use right out of the gate. It doesn’t help that the console only supports proprietary storage cards for expansion which are naturally expensive.

More storage, as such, is highly appreciated not only from a short-term point of view but also from a longevity and future-proofing perspective.

Aside from the colour swap and more storage, the rest of the hardware remains unchanged which is to say that the console is based on the same 8-core AMD Zen 2 CPU as the Series X.

This is paired with an AMD RDNA 2 GPU, same as the Series X. The major differences are that the CPU in the Series S is clocked at 3.6GHz (this is 3.8GHz in the Series X) and the GPU comes with 20 compute units clocked at 1.563GHz delivering 4 TFLOPS (this is 52 CUs @1.825GHz for 12 TFLOPS in the Series X).

The Series S has 10GB RAM @224GB/s with 8GB available to games (this is 16GB @560GB/s with 13.5GB available to games in the Series X).

But despite its dialled down approach, the Xbox Series S can pull off nearly every trick out the Series X’s textbook including variable rate shading, variable refresh rate (up to 120Hz), hardware accelerated ray tracing, ultra-low latency, Quick Resume, and Smart Delivery.

Xbox is for everyone who loves games. You can play any game on any device you want. Some gamers told us they wanted more space to store their games.

So we made a new Carbon Black Series S with 1TB of space. You can get this new Xbox if you want to change your old one or if you are new to Xbox. It is another choice for you in the Xbox family.

Microsoft Xbox Series S 1TB India Price and Launch Date

Microsoft’s official listing for Xbox Series S in India has revealed pricing and availability details.
The all-new Xbox Series 1TB will launch in India on September 1 which is also the global launch date.

It means fans will not have to wait for an Indian release while they see people from other regions getting their hands on the console.

The Xbox Series S 1TB price has been set at Rs 38,990 (ERP) in India.
This simply means it is the recommended pricing from Microsoft but the actual price may vary from one retailer to another.
For comparison, the 512GB storage variant is listed at Rs 34,990 (ERP).

Microsoft Xbox Series 1TB Specifications and Features

The Xbox Series S 1TB is the same as the original Xbox Series S that arrived in November 2020. The only differences are in the storage space and colour variant. Microsoft doubled the storage space on the console after listening to customers complain about not having enough storage.

This new console variant has been announced in a new Carbon Black colour. It has the same matte finish as the Xbox Series X and Xbox Wireless Controller.

The Xbox Series S boasts the Xbox Velocity Architecture which enables 2K gaming at up to 120 fps and lightning-fast load times. Quick Resume is a feature that lets gamers switch across multiple titles almost instantly. The console supports all the Xbox accessories and the Xbox Game Pass library.

In other news, Microsoft is ready to increase Xbox Game Pass pricing in India. The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Xbox Game Pass for Console will see a price hike of up to Rs 50.

The new prices will be Rs 549 and Rs 379 respectively starting July 6 for new subscribers. Existing monthly subscribers will have to pay new prices from August 13.

There are also speculations that we may see Xbox Series X prices go up as well.  The team is said to have intentions of bringing prices closer to the competition in each of the markets where the console is sold. The new console pricing is expected to get official sometime in August.
