Looking at it from the outside, it is clear that the Infinix Note 40 Pro, marks a significant shift towards the mid-range sector, aiming to rival established players like Realme and Xiaomi.

Its design draws inspiration from the previous Infinix Zero 5G, featuring a vegan leather back that not only looks sophisticated but feels premium in hand.

The device comes in three color options: Vintage Green, Obsidian Black, and Cityscape Golden, each reflecting the vibrancy of city life.

The golden camera island is nondescript in its appearance and gels well with the overall exterior.

Despite its robust features, including a 6,000mAh battery, the Note 40 Pro feels surprisingly light, a testament to Infinix’s engineering.

The 6.78-inch 3D curved AMOLED display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, ensuring durability.

With a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth scrolling and FHD+ resolution for clear visuals, the display is designed for an immersive experience.

Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G: Cameras

Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G: Cameras
Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G: Cameras

For the Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G series, the camera setup is a significant highlight, featuring a 108MP OIS triple rear camera arrangement.

This powerhouse of a camera didn’t just deliver; it surpassed my expectations, particularly with its rapid focus and shutter speeds during my daytime photography adventures.

The dynamic range was noteworthy, producing shots that were not only vibrant but also exhibited a well-balanced composition.

Although the colours were a bit on the saturated side, they added a lively touch to the images.

A setback was the lack of camera versatility with just a 2MP macro camera that sometimes struggled with accurate colour temperatures and sharpness.

The 2MP depth sensor serves no purpose as software enhancements effectively manage subject-background separation without the need for a dedicated sensor.

In darker environments, the Note 40 Pro 5G series stood its ground admirably.

The advanced night mode, boosted by AI scene detection, intelligently illuminated my shots, although focusing could be a tad slower.

The 3x lossless zoom allowed for detailed captures even from afar, enriching the photography experience.

The 32MP front-facing camera consistently delivered high-quality selfies, making it a dependable tool for video calls and self-portraits.

The Cinematic Bokeh mode had its moments, but overall, portrait shots were impressive.

With additional functionalities like Portrait Mode, Sky Remap, and the Dual Video Vlog Clipper, the Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G series offers a comprehensive and creative camera experience, standing out in the realm of mid-range smartphones although its lack of an ultra-wide sensor leaves a sour taste.

Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G: Performance

Delving into the performance of the Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G series the device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7020 5G.

Despite not being the absolute peak of chipset performance, it impresses with flagship-level efficiency and reliability.

My evaluation reflected its strong performance, with benchmark outcomes placing it comfortably in the high-performing category, a notable achievement for its price range.

The Note 40 Pro series managed to handle stress tests admirably, maintaining about 85% of its peak performance during intensive usage, which speaks volumes about its stability and efficiency.

This robust performance is further enhanced by Memory Fusion technology, allowing the extension of RAM up to 16GB for the Note 40 Pro.

User interface fluidity was exceptional, benefiting significantly from the 120Hz display refresh rate, making every interaction feel smoother.

However, for the gaming enthusiasts among us, setting high-demand games to medium graphics was necessary for me to maintain a stable 60fps gameplay.

However, the Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G series some gaming-centric enhancements, including XBOOST frame rate control and a wide-band X-Axis linear motor, providing an immersive gaming experience with precise haptic feedback and tailored touch responsiveness.

Although the series would benefit from stereo speakers for a more immersive audio experience, its current JBL-tune setup delivers clear and robust sound quality, enhancing the overall user experience.

There’s an in-display fingerprint sensor on offer which does its job well enough.

Finally, the reliable 5G connectivity ensured seamless online gaming and streaming during my tests.

The Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G series runs on XOS 14 which is based on Android 14.

It delivers a streamlined and user-friendly interface.

This operating system is rich in features that bolster both usability and customisation, making it a pleasure to navigate.

Its fluid animations, diverse themes, and widgets create an environment that’s both intuitive and visually appealing.

However, XOS 14 falls doesn’t keep the interface free from clutter, falling prey to the significant issues of bloatware.

Infinix is offering 2 Major Android Upgrade + 3 yrs. Security Patch update for the device.

Transitioning to the device’s battery capabilities, the handset is outfitted with All-Round FastCharge 2.0 technology, supporting an impressive array of charging options.

This includes ultra-fast wired and wireless charging, along with reverse charging capabilities, setting a new standard in the segment.

The battery capacity of 5,000mAh is pretty standard now in this segment.

The 45W fast-charging, while not the fastest, reduces downtime, a convenience that was evident during my testing.

Also the provided accessories for wireless charging seamlessly complement the device, with the included case ensuring compatibility and efficiency.

You get up to 20W of charging speeds on the setup which will juice up the battery in about two hours.

The Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G range is a mid-range marvel that punches above its weight.

It combines cutting-edge innovations like the All-Round FastCharge 2.0 with robust performance from the MediaTek Dimensity 7020 chipset and Memory Fusion technology.

Creative flourishes like the interactive Active Halo lighting and the MagCase wireless charging ecosystem further amplify the premium experience.

While not perfect, with some compromises expected, the Note 40 Pro 5G lineup delivers an impressive blend of performance, features, and affordability.

For buyers seeking a feature-packed smartphone experience without breaking the bank, Infinix’s latest has plenty of appeal.

Windows 11 Critiqued by Ex-Microsoft Engineer for Slow Performance

0

Highlights

  • Ex-Microsoft engineer highlights sluggish Start Menu responsiveness.
  • Performance concerns raised despite testing on a high-end system.
  • Users share experiences of sluggishness across basic operations.
  • Microsoft faces pressure to address and resolve these performance issues.

A former senior software engineer at Microsoft has ignited a heated discussion around the performance issues plaguing Windows 11.

Andy Young, who previously worked on the operating system itself, has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to highlight the “comically bad” speed of basic user interface (UI) elements, particularly the Start Menu.

In a series of tweets, Young demonstrated the sluggish responsiveness of the Start Menu on his high-end system, featuring an Intel Core i9 processor and a whopping 128GB of RAM.

Despite the powerful hardware, the Start Menu took nearly a second to load, a baffling delay for a crucial component that should be instantaneous.

Unfinished Product or Underlying Issues?

Naturally, Young’s observations have sparked a conversation about the overall quality and optimization of Windows 11.

While acknowledging his affection for the operating system he helped build, Young has said that he is concerned that Windows 11, in its current state, feels unfinished and potentially rushed to market before it was truly ready.

This criticism has resonated with many users who have experienced similar performance hiccups and sluggishness when performing routine tasks.

Some have even shared videos showcasing Windows 11’s tendency to crawl during straightforward operations, further fueling the debate.

Microsoft has consistently encouraged Windows 10 users to upgrade to the latest version, even announcing the impending cost of Extended Security Updates for those reluctant to switch.

However, Young’s comments and the ensuing discussion have cast a shadow on the upgrade process, potentially deterring some users from embracing Windows 11 until its performance issues are addressed.

Windows 10 users to upgrade to the latest version

Microsoft will likely face mounting pressure to acknowledge and rectify the performance concerns one of its former engineers raised.

Whether the solution lies in further optimisation, addressing underlying issues, or acknowledging the operating system’s unfinished state remains to be seen.

FAQs

What specific performance issues were highlighted by the former Microsoft engineer?

Andy Young, a former senior software engineer at Microsoft, pointed out the slow responsiveness of Windows 11’s Start Menu, even on a high-end system with an Intel Core i9 processor and 128GB of RAM.

His critique underscores a significant delay in basic UI elements, raising questions about the overall optimization of Windows 11.

Why are these performance issues concerning for Windows 11 users?

The performance issues are particularly troubling because they affect fundamental aspects of the operating system, such as the Start Menu, that should operate seamlessly.

For an OS that Microsoft promotes as the latest and most advanced, these lags and delays disrupt the user experience and raise doubts about its readiness and efficiency.

How has the community reacted to the reported Windows 11 performance problems?

Following Andy Young’s revelations, many users have echoed his sentiments, sharing their own experiences with Windows 11’s sluggish performance during routine tasks.

This community feedback has amplified the conversation about the need for Microsoft to address these concerns promptly.

What implications do these issues have for Windows 10 users considering an upgrade?

Reports of performance issues could hinder Microsoft’s push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11.

With Extended Security Updates for Windows 10 becoming a paid option, users may be reluctant to switch to a newer system that appears to struggle with basic functionality, pending assurance of improvements.

Sony Xperia 1 VI Leaks Reveal Classic Design with Modern Upgrades

0

Highlights

  • Retains Sony’s iconic flat metal frame and premium aesthetics.
  • Features a triple ZEISS-branded lens setup, including a periscope telephoto module.
  • Maintains traditional bezels for a classic look with a 6.5-inch display.
  • Introduces a 2K resolution panel, enhancing visual clarity and detail.

Sony fans have their first look at the company’s next flagship smartphone, thanks to detailed renders allegedly depicting the upcoming Xperia 1 VI.

The images, shared by reputable leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (OnLeaks), reveal a device sticking closely to Sony’s signature premium aesthetics.

From the renders, it’s clear the Xperia 1 VI will retain the overall design language of its predecessor, the Xperia 1 V.

The familiar flat metal frame houses the power button (doubling as a fingerprint scanner), volume rocker, camera shutter button, and SIM slot.

Around the back, the distinct pill-shaped camera bump returns, housing what appears to be three ZEISS-branded lenses including a periscope telephoto module.

Other details like the USB-C port and 3.5mm headphone jack are also visible.

The front view depicts Sony persisting with its trademark bezels rather than adopting a more modern hole-punch design.

Sony Xperia 1 VI Leak Renders

The top and bottom bezels don’t appear excessively thick, flanking what’s tipped to be a 6.5-inch display panel.

Dimension-wise, the Xperia 1 VI measures in at 161.9 x 74.5 x 8.4mm.

This makes it slightly smaller but wider and thicker compared to the previous model, potentially altering the aspect ratio from 21:9 to 19.5:9.

While reveal specifics remain under wraps, previous leaks point to the Xperia 1 VI utilizing a 2K resolution panel instead of 4K.

The camera system is rumored to employ 48MP sensors with Sony’s Exmor R technology.

Based on these renders, Sony seems intent on iterating on its signature design rather than radically overhauling the Xperia look for its next flagship.

YouTube Music Steps Up Podcast Features Amid User Feedback

YouTube Music Rolls Out Offline Listening for Desktop and Updates Android Share Sheet

Highlights

  • YouTube Music introduces sorting options and international podcast recommendations.
  • Improved search functionality now makes finding specific podcasts easier.
  • Key podcast features like auto-download and custom playlists still missing.
  • YouTube commits to enhancing podcast experience with more updates on the horizon.

YouTube Music users hoping for a seamless transition to the platform’s new podcast capabilities have been left wanting more.

As Google retires its dedicated Podcasts app, complaints are mounting that key features are missing on YouTube’s audio streaming service.

The problems have caught the attention of YouTube’s podcast team, who have taken to Reddit to acknowledge the user feedback.

They highlighted a few recent enhancements like improved search, sorting options, and personalized podcast suggestions on the home screen.

YouTube Addresses Podcast Grievances

YouTube Music Steps Up Podcast Features Amid User Feedback
YouTube Music Steps Up Podcast Features Amid User Feedback
  • Sorting options: You can now sort a podcast’s episodes from newest to oldest, oldest to newest, most popular, or default. It’s pretty puzzling that this wasn’t a day-one feature, though.
  • International love: Non-US users now get podcasts on their Home feed, including the new “Recommended shows” shelf that is already available to U.S. users, making new episode discovery a lot easier.
  • Search Tweaks: Improved search results, making it easier to find the podcasts you actually want.

However, these tweaks seem like small Band-Aids rather than an overhaul the podcast experience desperately needs right now.

Longtime podcast fans have been quick to call out YouTube Music’s lack of essential functionality compared to the outgoing Google Podcasts app.

Basic capabilities like auto-downloading new episodes, custom playlists, and premium audio effects are conspicuously absent.

A Disjointed podcast Experience on YouTube

YouTube Music introduces sorting options and international podcast recommendations
YouTube Music introduces sorting options and international podcast recommendations

It’s a baffling situation, especially considering YouTube Music was publicly pegged as the podcasting hub of choice over a year ago when the migration plan was first announced.

With ample time to prepare, one would expect a smoother handoff of beloved podcast features.

Instead, users are facing a bare-bones product that seems more like a minimum viable offering than a polished podcast powerhouse primed to replace a dedicated app.

To its credit, YouTube has steadily expanded podcasting tools for creators, rolling out RSS feed uploads earlier in 2024.

But the platform is playing catch-up on the listener side of the equation.

For a company aiming to integrate podcasts and music into one premium YouTube experience, Google’s roll-out has been disappointing so far.

Fans are hoping the self-admitted “rough” start is short-lived and signals meaningful upgrades soon.

Otherwise, YouTube risks squandering its massive audience and letting rival podcast players steal the spotlight with more refined and feature-rich offerings.

FAQs

What new podcast features has YouTube Music recently introduced?

YouTube Music has rolled out several updates to improve the podcast listening experience. These include new sorting options for episodes, allowing users to organize content by newest, oldest, most popular, or in a default arrangement.

Additionally, non-US users can now discover podcasts directly from their Home feed, including a “Recommended shows” shelf, mirroring a feature previously available only in the U.S.

How has YouTube Music improved podcast search capabilities?

The platform has made significant tweaks to its search functionality, aiming to streamline the process of finding desired podcasts.

These adjustments are designed to return more accurate and relevant search results, helping users quickly locate the shows and episodes they’re interested in listening to.

Which essential podcast features are currently missing from YouTube Music?

Despite recent updates, YouTube Music’s podcast functionality lacks several core features that were available in the Google Podcasts app.

Notably, users are missing out on the ability to auto-download new episodes, create custom playlists from different podcasts, and enjoy premium audio effects, which are standard on many other podcast platforms.

Why are users concerned about the podcast experience on YouTube Music?

The transition to YouTube Music as the primary platform for podcasts has been rocky, with users highlighting the absence of key functionalities they enjoyed on Google Podcasts.

The platform’s current offerings have been described as minimal, lacking the depth and user-friendliness expected from a dedicated podcast app.

This has led to frustration among podcast enthusiasts looking for a seamless listening experience.

Xiaomi MIX Fold 3

Highlights

  • Mi Mix Fold 4 to feature a lighter design with a more robust hinge and minimized crease.
  • First foldable with IP water resistance rating, setting a new standard in durability.
  • Boasts Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, 16GB RAM, and up to 1TB storage for unparalleled performance.
  • Introduces 50MP main camera, two-way satellite connectivity, and 100W fast charging.

Xiaomi looks set to take its foldable smartphone game to new heights if the latest leaks around the upcoming Mi Mix Fold 4 turn out to be accurate.

Details emerging paint a picture of a radically improved folding experience which is likely to put it ahead of the galaxy Fold 5 in the pecking order.

Mi Mix Fold 4: Leaked Specs

Xiaomi's Next Foldable Flagship Leaks Reveal Cutting-Edge Features

The leak, reportedly from a reputable Chinese tipster, suggests the Mi Mix Fold 4 will benefit from a sturdier hinge design.

This revised hinge mechanism could allow for a lighter overall chassis weight between 220-240g while minimising the visible crease when unfolded.

Crucially, the leak also hints at proper water resistance finally making an appearance.

If true, an IP rating would make the Mix Fold 4 one of the first foldable phones to offer meaningful protection against spills and splashes.

Under the hood, the Mix Fold 4 seems poised to pack Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip.

This top-tier silicon could be paired with a meaty 16GB RAM and up to an incredible 1TB of storage.

The camera department is tipped for a serious overhaul too.

Headlining is a huge 50MP main sensor with 1/1.55″ size, accompanied by a 5x optical zoom telephoto lens and 13MP ultrawide.

Even the selfie cameras, with 16MP sensors on both inner and outer displays, seem well-specced.

Additionally, the leak points to some very intriguing extras like two-way satellite connectivity for remote coverage and an X-axis linear vibration motor promising improved haptic feedback.

With a rumoured 5,000mAh battery with 100W fast charging rounding things out, it seems Xiaomi isn’t leaving any stones unturned in making the Mix Fold 4 a foldable tour de force.

Of course, leaks can prove inaccurate.

But if these details hold true, Xiaomi’s next flagship folding phone could redefine what a premium foldable is capable of in terms of performance, imaging prowess and true all-weather durability.
